Singapore Convention: Should Indonesia Ratify It?, Ahmad Rifa'i, Dimas Ramadhansyah
Indonesian Journal of International Law
As cross-border trading develops, there is an increasing need for an effective dispute resolution system to solve disputes on business transactions. Mediation is a well-established method of efficient alternative dispute resolution that was recently internationally recognized under a specific treaty. The United Nations General Assembly took a resolution to adopt the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Resulting from Mediation (“Singapore Convention”). The Indonesian government has tried to boost foreign investment, but such efforts have been delayed due to a legal enforcement issue, which requires a legal reform to provide certainty for investors by providing a seamless and internationally recognized …

The Mediterranean Region registers an increasing prevalence of obesity. The region lacks a diet screener to assess obesogenic nutrients. This study aimed to evaluate the reproducibility and validity of the Modified Mediterranean Prime Screen (MMPS) in estimating obesogenic nutrients' intake among women of reproductive age, as compared with a culturally validated Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), in Lebanon. We developed the MMPS consisting of thirty-two food/beverage items specific to the Lebanese Mediterranean culture. The MMPS and FFQ were administered in two visits (2 weeks-6 months apart), face to face and via telephone during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. The reproducibility and …
A Comparison Between Inverse-Planning Imrt Versus Forward-Planning Imrt For Left-Sided Breast Cancer With Breath Hold Technique, Dien Tran
Masters Projects
Abstract
Introduction:
Radiation therapy using tangential fields is a common treatment for breast cancer, targeting the tumor while reducing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues such as the heart and lungs. Forward-planned "field-in-field" IMRT (FP-IMRT) is widely used for its ability to provide uniform dose distribution and spare normal tissue, despite requiring high planning skill and time. Inverse-planning IMRT (IP-IMRT) offers better conformal dose to targets with reduced planning variability and time. This study compares FP-IMRT and IP-IMRT in left-sided breast cancer patients using the deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) technique.
Method:
A retrospective analysis was conducted on 10 patients …

Psychology Faculty Research
Purpose
Researchers have theorized that interactions between appetitive and circadian disruptions result in increased eating disorder (ED) symptoms and insomnia. However, it is unclear how specific insomnia symptoms present among people with EDs and if the latent structure of insomnia in this population is similar to that of people with insomnia disorder.
Methods
We conducted a secondary analysis of data collected on ED and insomnia symptoms using a subset of students with probable EDs at a large Midwestern American university. Item response theory (IRT) for polytomous items was performed to identify item difficulty, discrimination, and information parameters for the Insomnia …

Curatele is a legal determination applied to individuals unable to manage their own needs and interests, designates them as legally incompetent. Despite its intent, the curatele system faces challenges due to misuse, resulting in violations of the rights of those placed under curatele. Governed by Article 433 of the Civil Code, curatele underwent significant changes following Constitutional Court Decision No. 93/PUU-XX/2022. This decision rendered curatele is now no longer a necessity, but rather can be, for individuals with conditions such as dungu, sakit otak, and mata gelap, provided these conditions aren't interpreted as indicative of mental or …

Preoperative risk biomarkers for delirium may aid in identifying high-risk patients and developing intervention therapies, which would minimize the health and economic burden of postoperative delirium. Previous studies have typically used single omics approaches to identify such biomarkers. Preoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the Healthier Postoperative Recovery study of adults ≥ 63 years old undergoing elective major orthopedic surgery was used in a matched pair delirium case–no delirium control design. We performed metabolomics and lipidomics, which were combined with our previously reported proteomics results on the same samples. Differential expression, clustering, classification, and systems biology analyses were applied to individual …

This study uses the agent-based modeling technique to discover propositions on innovation diffusion that are empirically testable. It finds the adoption rate is positively related to (1) the size of the population, (2) the degree of heterogeneity in consumer learning in the population, (3) the degree of heterogeneity in consumer innovativeness in the population, and (4) the fit-in- desire in the population for innovation. This research adds insights to the innovation diffusion literature and lays the groundwork for future empirical research.

Clinical success with poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) is impeded by inevitable resistance and associated cytotoxicity. Depletion of Amplified in Liver Cancer 1 (ALC1), a chromatin-remodeling enzyme, can overcome these limitations by hypersensitizing BReast CAncer genes 1/2 (BRCA1/2) mutant cells to PARPi. Here, we demonstrate that PARPi hypersensitivity upon ALC1 loss is reliant on its role in promoting the repair of chromatin buried abasic sites. We show that ALC1 enhances the ability of the abasic site processing enzyme, Apurinic/Apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1) to cleave nucleosome-occluded abasic sites. However, unrepaired abasic sites in ALC1-deficient cells are readily accessed by APE1 at …

Methadone maintenance treatment for opioid dependent mothers is standard of care. Infants of methadone maintained opioid dependent (MMOD) mothers have better outcomes compared to infants of opioid dependent mothers without treatment. However, when compared to non-exposed infants, infants of MMOD mothers are associated with worse outcomes. We conducted a pilot study to examine genome wide differential DNA methylation using cord blood samples from sixteen term and near-term infants of MMOD and opioid naïve mothers, excluding Infants with chorioamnionitis. A total of 152 differentially methylated loci were identified at a difference > + 2, < - 2 and p-value < 0.05. There were 90 hypermethylated loci (59 annotated genes) and 62 hypomethylated loci (38 annotated genes) observed. The hypermethylated and hypomethylated DNA changes involved multiple genes, pathways and networks that may explain some of the changes seen in infants of MMOD mothers. Top hypermethylated and hypomethylated genes involved areas of cell growth, neurodevelopment, vision and xenobiotic metabolism functions. Our data may explain the role of key pathways and genes relevant to neonatal outcomes seen from methadone exposure in pregnancy. Functional studies on the identified pathways and genes could lead to improved understanding of the mechanisms and identify areas for intervention.

The sudden onset of the coronavirus disease led to a rapid expansion of video telehealth to deliver mental healthcare. Although video telehealth was not a new clinical practice, there was limited guidance on how best to modify evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs) for virtual delivery (a process also referred to as virtualization). The virtualization process for EBPs remains unclear as newly emerging reports on this topic do not consistently report modification decisions. This commentary calls attention to the need to improve documentation practices to allow a greater understanding of modifications needed to maximize the positive effects of EBPs transported to a virtual …

Recruitment of research participants often has not obtained a desired sample size, thereby becoming a major problem inhibiting investigators' ability to adequately test the specified hypotheses. Social marketing with its four Ps, originally developed by the business world to sell products and adapted for public health initiatives, is proposed as a dynamic comprehensive conceptual framework to apply marketing principles and practices to enhance participant recruitment. Applying a social marketing approach to research recruitment would require initial investigation to understand the motivations of the target audience in regard to research participation, and continued research throughout the main project to adapt the …

Monkeypox, a viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus is well known for its characteristic rash with macular, papular, and vesicular stages. Although the skin is one of the most affected organs by monkeypox, the virus can also impact the respiratory, ophthalmologic, genitourinary, and gastrointestinal systems, among others. It is extremely common for the disease to begin with flu-like symptoms in the prodromal phase before cutaneous manifestations emerge. Here, we describe a unique case of monkeypox infection in which a patient first presented with periorbital cellulitis before any characteristic skin findings appeared. The source of the infection was unknown and …

This research delved into the influencing factors behind the adoption of cooking gas in the Ilorin metropolis. The primary aim was to investigate the growing trend of adopting cooking gas in this area. The study utilized Binary Logistic Regression as its analytical method to assess the relationships between various variables. The findings unveiled several key insights. Firstly, there exists a noteworthy negative correlation between the age of households and their inclination toward adopting cooking gas (0.641, p < 0.05). On the other hand, the level of education displayed a positive but insignificant association with gas adoption. Factors like Family Size, Occupation, Safety, and the Availability of other energy sources demonstrated a positive yet insignificant correlation with the adoption of cooking gas. Notably, household income exhibited a statistically significant positive relationship with cooking gas adoption (1.547, p < 0.05). Conversely, the presence of gas shops showed an insignificant positive relationship with households' decisions to adopt cooking gas. Moreover, the level of awareness and social influence exhibited insignificant negative associations with households' decisions to adopt cooking gas. Aligned with these findings, the study proposes recommendations for action. It suggests that the Nigerian government should focus on elevating educational standards and promoting an improved quality of life to incentivize fuel substitution. This shift can lead to more efficient energy usage and mitigate adverse environmental, social, and health impacts. This approach can significantly reduce wood energy consumption, subsequently relieving pressure on wood resources and aiding in the effort to combat deforestation.

This essay methodically tracks references to safe-sex in rap music and analyzes their implications. Reviewing over 3,000 songs from 1985 to 1995, the authors found that the tone and messages of these references differed substantially. While many artists celebrated risky and indiscriminate sexual behavior– their work marred by a misogny and homophobia that often stigmatized persons living with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)– many other artists portrayed safe-sex in a positive light, either as a responsible approach to sexual behavior, or as a pragmatic tool of urban survival. These songs normalized the use of condoms, and educated listeners by raising awareness …
