Resin-Build-Up As A Direct Monoblock Concept For Root Canal Dentin, Core, And Crown Restoration On Anterior Endodontically Treated Tooth, Citra Kusumasari, Takashi Hatayama, Junji Tagami, Yasushi Shimada Prof.
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
The long-term clinical performance of restoration in endodontically treated teeth (ETT) is an essential yet complicated strategy to achieve it. A resin-build-up tooth with higher elastic moduli is a minimally invasive strategy to decrease the risk of catastrophic root fracture. Additionally, intracanal resin composite anchorage simplifies the restorative procedure and increases the bonding. Objective: This case report describes a resin-build-up tooth restoration using the direct monoblock concept to replace a failed metal post and core and porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crown on the maxillary right central incisor. Case report: A 50-year-old man attended a dental university hospital …

Peripheral Ameloblastoma Of Palatal Mucosa: A Rare Case Report And Literature Review, Filiz Namdar Pekiner, Suay Yağmur Ünal, Hakan Yülek, Gaye Keser
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Peripheral ameloblastoma (PA), an uncommon and unique form of odontogenic tumor, accounts for around 2-10% of all ameloblastomas. The extraosseous position is the distinguishing aspect of this form of tumor, which is otherwise comparable to a typical ameloblastoma. As late recurrence is also recorded, continuous follow-up is required. A case of peripheral ameloblastoma in a 23-year-old male that affected the right posterior palatal mucosa was presented in this case study. A 23-year-old male patient had an exophytic mass located at the junction of the hard and soft palate, in the palatal neighborhood of the tooth number 18. An excisional biopsy …

Minimally Invasive Treatment Of Molar Incisor Hypomineralization Without Using Burs: Experiences Via A Case Series In Vietnam, Võ Truong Nhu Ngoc, Nguyen Phương Huyen, Le Khả Anh, Phan Thi Thu Hang, Hoang Kim Loan, Ta Thành Dong
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Mild form of molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) on anterior teeth are posing great challenges to dental practitioners as it can have a huge aesthetic impact. In terms of deep MIH-related lesion below the healthy enamel, highly invasive methods for approaching the lesion body and removing the entire hypomineralized enamel using burs could lead to failures including aesthetic problems and even further tooth structure damage to the affected teeth. Case report: To resolve t his issue, we have proposed a modified resin infiltration technique based on the minimally invasive philosophy. In this study, we would like to report three specific cases …

Psychology Faculty Articles and Research
Addressing the tremendous burden of early-life adversity requires constructive dialogues between scientists and policy makers to improve population health. Whereas dialogues focused on several aspects of early-life adversity have been initiated, discussion of an underrecognized form of adversity that has been observed across multiple contexts and cultures is only now emerging. Here we provide evidence for “why unpredictability?”, including: 1. Evidence that exposures to unpredictability affect child neurodevelopment, with influences that persist into adulthood. 2. The existence of a translational non-human animal model of exposure to early life unpredictability that can be capitalized upon to causally probe neurobiological mechanisms. 3. …

At the second level, data were collected through literature study on ideology and context. The text and context data …
Settling Dust, Unsettling Ground, Olivia Newroz
Settling Dust, Unsettling Ground, Olivia Newroz
Masters Theses
Understanding dust as a material system that blurs the line between ground and atmosphere, I developed a dust machine as a tool for making dust legible at the human scale. While the blurriness of ground is visualized at both particle and planetary scales, at the human scale, it becomes less evident. Drawing from Lisa’s Moffitt’s discussion of “environmental models”–that is, models that don’t merely simulate phenomena, in this case dust, but rather produce the underlying force itself––I produced visualizations of how dust, as both a grounded and atmospheric element, intertwines ground and weather across scales, through a cyclical process of …

Approximately, 10-15 million cases of Cushing Syndrome are annually diagnosed. A subset of cases are caused from medication. This subset is known as iatrogenic Cushing’s syndrome (ICS). ICS affects the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Furthermore, ICS is a disease that can have an indolent presentation where patients are unaware of the disease. Identification and management of ICS is essential in optimizing patient care. This case report focuses on a unique patient scenario that involves ICS.
Exploring Berberine As A Novel Therapeutic Agent Against Staphylococcus Aureus Infections: Targeting Inflammation And Antibiotic Resistance, Daniel Kopulos
Exploring Berberine As A Novel Therapeutic Agent Against Staphylococcus Aureus Infections: Targeting Inflammation And Antibiotic Resistance, Daniel Kopulos
NYMC Student Theses and Dissertations
Staphylococcus aureus is a versatile Gram-positive bacterium commonly found on human skin. While often harmless, it can cause various infections when the skin is compromised, ranging from minor issues to life-threatening conditions in immunocompromised individuals.
The bacterium’s ability to resist antibiotics, particularly methicillin, underscores its clinical challenge. Staphylococcus aureus can also acquire vancomycin resistance. It evades immune responses through multiple mechanisms, including capsule formation, interference with immune proteins like staphylococcal protein A, and secretion of toxins such as Panton-Valentine Leukocidin. Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for developing effective strategies against Staphylococcus aureus infections.
The immune response to Staphylococcus aureus infections …

An Exploration Of Adult Children’S Attachment To Their Parents Across Two Cultural Groups: Indians In India And Indians Who Immigrated To The United States, Vilasini Meenakshi Arun
Doctoral Dissertations
Typically, attachment theory has been studied and explored with western populations. Individuals seeking mental health treatment within the United States include western and nonwestern cultural groups and research, theories and interventions that apply to diverse populations are necessary. Attachment relationships are often a part of, or reasons for clients to seek therapy either overtly or covertly, thus allowing research on attachment to better inform treatment plans and practice. An attachment relationship between a parent and child can be influenced by several factors and may change over the course of development, but little is known about this process among Indians …

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries pose a significant challenge due to their limited healing potential, often resulting in premature arthritis. The factors and mechanisms contributing to this inadequate healing process remain elusive. During the acute phase of injury, ACL tissues express elevated periostin levels that decline over time. The functional significance of periostin in ligament biology remains understudied. In this study, we investigated the functional and mechanistic implications of periostin deficiency in ACL biology, utilizing ligament fibroblasts derived from patients and a murine model of ACL rupture. Our investigations unveiled that periostin knockdown compromised fibroblast growth characteristics, hindered the egress …

Authors of scientific articles are faced with two opposing demands: objectivity and critical evaluation when expressing reality and truth. To date, no evaluative language mapping has been performed on Indonesian scientific articles which can accurately describe an article’s degree of objectivity so that it can be used as a tool for objectivizing and negotiating truth. Using the appraisal framework, this research aims to identify and examine these two opposing orientations as they appear in Indonesian scientific articles. The qualitative approach was applied to perform in-depth analysis of interpersonal functions in scientific articles. Data in the form of Indonesian scientific articles …

Transposable elements (TEs) comprise ~50% of our genome, but knowledge of how TEs affect genome evolution remains incomplete. Leveraging ENCODE4 data, we provide the most comprehensive study to date of TE contributions to the regulatory genome. We find 236,181 (~25%) human candidate cis-regulatory elements (cCREs) are TE-derived, with over 90% lineage-specific since the human-mouse split, accounting for 8-36% of lineage-specific cCREs. Except for SINEs, cCRE-associated transcription factor (TF) motifs in TEs are derived from ancestral TE sequence more than expected by chance. We show that TEs may adopt similar regulatory activities of elements near their integration site. Since human-mouse divergence, …

From new vaccines to revolutionary drugs for hard-to-treat disorders, the field of medicine continues to rapidly advance, offering a promise of better patient outcomes and quality of life. Minority groups continue to experience outcomes that contradict these breakthroughs—an increase in death rates and a decrease in life expectancy. Compared to White women, Black women in the US are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth-related problems. This disproportionality persists even when controlling for socioeconomic factors, signifying that systemic and structural issues are at play beyond actions of individuals or even healthcare access. Understanding the complex …

Did you know that over 90% of blindness and visual impairment can be prevented or treated with timely eye care? Despite this, many people in underserved communities suffer from vision problems due to a lack of access or affordability. Good vision is crucial for daily tasks like reading, driving, and socializing, and it impacts overall well-being and safety. Poor eyesight can lead to accidents, health issues, and emotional challenges, such as isolation and dependency. Regular eye care prevents and manages vision problems early, enhancing quality of life. Everyone deserves clear vision, but barriers like cost, awareness, and access often prevent …

Antibiotics are some of the most essential lifesaving drugs currently available to us against infectious diseases. Several pathogens are developing resistance to these drugs and many have become resistant to multiple antibiotics. Such multi-drug resistance is becoming a global issue and has been found in many environments including wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). In this study, we sampled a local WWTP for antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This WWTP is in North Georgia and runs directly into Lake Lanier, which is the main source of drinking water for the Atlanta area as well as a popular spot for water recreation. We obtained treated and …

Inclusivity Curriculum is a need-based curriculum in the classroom, as it fosters ideas of equity and sense of belonging. Inclusive curriculum can combat the systemic foundation of hate and discrimination that has played a role in the public-school system for generations. This paper will not only open the door to why there cannot be steps taken back from the multiculturalism we have implemented in our student's core learnings but also enhance the ideas that a just education is the right education. Without an educational system that focuses on the power of inclusive experiences, we will give way to a system …
