Dentistry And The Law: Hiring A Crna To Work In Your Practice, Daniel Schulte Jd
The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
This column addresses whether a dental practice can hire a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to administer anesthesia. A CRNA can be hired if the requirements of Michigan's MCL 333.17210 and the Michigan Administrative Code are met. The CRNA must have sufficient experience or advanced degrees and work collaboratively in a patient-centered care team. The dental office must have policies for immediate clinical response, and all involved personnel must be certified in basic cardiac life support. Additional rules apply depending on the sedation level provided.

Mitigation Of Road Mortality Of Freshwater Turtles In New Hampshire With An Emphasis On Blanding's Turtles (Emydoidea Blandingii), Lauren White
Master's Theses and Capstones
The Blanding’s turtle (Emydoidea blandingii) is a state-endangered species in New Hampshire that is particularly vulnerable to road mortality due to reproductive life history traits, habitat use, and migration patterns. Successful conservation techniques to mitigate wildlife road mortality include building fences and wildlife crossing structures (eco-passages) at roadkill hot spots. A collaborative research group designed a road mortality risk model to understand turtles' relative road mortality risk at existing wetland crossing sites in New Hampshire and to assess whether culverts at these sites may function as eco-passages. To ground-truth this model, roadkill surveys and wildlife camera monitoring techniques were used …

Key Factors Influencing Job Satisfaction Among Academic Staff In The University, Victor Amadi Stephen
School of Rehabilitation Services & Counseling Faculty Publications
Job satisfaction (JS) undoubtedly impacts significantly on the productive capacity and general well-being of academic staff within universities. Poor JS affects not only individual performance but also broader institutional goals and may culminate in a decline in staff morale, disloyalty, constant labor migration and unending industrial actions by labor unions within the university. Enhancing job satisfaction can improve staff’s quality of service, staff retention, productivity, and the overall academic quality of the institutions. This study reviews factors associated with job satisfaction among academic staff in universities, and how these factors independently contribute to overall job satisfaction. This study draws on …

Objective: To solve major clinical natural language processing (NLP) tasks using a unified text-to-text learning architecture based on a generative large language model (LLM) via prompt tuning.
Methods: We formulated 7 key clinical NLP tasks as text-to-text learning and solved them using one unified generative clinical LLM, GatorTronGPT, developed using GPT-3 architecture and trained with up to 20 billion parameters. We adopted soft prompts (ie, trainable vectors) with frozen LLM, where the LLM parameters were not updated (ie, frozen) and only the vectors of soft prompts were updated, known as prompt tuning. We added additional soft prompts as a prefix …

Objectives: Precise literature recommendation and summarization are crucial for biomedical professionals. While the latest iteration of generative pretrained transformer (GPT) incorporates 2 distinct modes-real-time search and pretrained model utilization-it encounters challenges in dealing with these tasks. Specifically, the real-time search can pinpoint some relevant articles but occasionally provides fabricated papers, whereas the pretrained model excels in generating well-structured summaries but struggles to cite specific sources. In response, this study introduces RefAI, an innovative retrieval-augmented generative tool designed to synergize the strengths of large language models (LLMs) while overcoming their limitations.
Materials and methods: RefAI utilized PubMed for systematic literature retrieval, …

For as long as there has been work, there has been a “future of work,” through humans’ ingenuity and drive to get things done easier, faster, and better. With the industrial revolution, efforts to shape a better future of work were dominated by improvements in machinery that soon led to fears that these machines might take away jobs from workers, enriching the rich and leaving the poor poorer (Allen, 2017). Later, John Maynard Keynes (1930) optimistically predicted technological unemployment (a net loss of jobs due to shifts in the nature of work outpacing the economy’s ability to redeploy talent) would …

Interaction network resilience can be defined as the ability of interacting organisms to maintain their functions, processes or populations after experiencing a disturbance. Studies on mutualistic interactions between plants and pollinators along environmental gradients are essential to understand the provision of ecosystem services and the mechanisms challenging their network resilience. However, it remains unknown to what level ecological changes along climatic gradients constrain the network resilience of mutualistic organisms, especially along elevation gradients. We surveyed bee species and recorded their interactions with plants throughout the four major seasons (i.e. long and short rainy, and long and short dry) on 50 …

Lysophospholipid transporter LplT and acyltransferase Aas consist of a lysophospholipid-remodeling system ubiquitously found in gram-negative microorganisms. LplT flips lysophospholipid across the inner membrane which is subsequently acylated by Aas on the cytoplasmic membrane surface. Our previous study showed that the proper functioning of this system is important to protecting Escherichia coli from phospholipase-mediated host attack by maintaining the integrity of the bacterial cell envelope. However, the working mechanism of this system is still unclear. Herein, we report that LplT and Aas form a membrane protein complex in E. coli which allows these two enzymes to cooperate efficiently to move lysophospholipids …

Using a high-frequency panel survey, we examine the sensitivity of estimated self-reported well-being (SWB) dynamics to using monthly, quarterly, and yearly data. This is an important issue if SWB is to be used to evaluate policy. Results from autoregressive models that account for individual-level heterogeneity indicate that the estimated persistence using yearly data is near zero. However, estimated persistence from monthly and quarterly data is substantial. We estimate that persistence to shocks typically lasts around six months and has a net present value of 75–80 per cent of the contemporaneous effect. Current human population growth along Earth’s coasts is on a collision path with anticipated consequences of increasing natural and anthropogenic induced coastal hazards. Using recently-available ambient, dasymetric data, we developed methods to estimate annual continental and global coastal populations from (2000–2018) measured horizontally from the shoreline inward. We found: (1) large concentrations of population in relatively small bands and regions along the coast (~ 2 billion within 50 km and ~ 1 billion within 10 km); (2) higher growth rates of coastal population than inland population (an addition of 463 million within 50 km and 233 million within 10 km); …

This work involved the preparation of a new Schiff base ligand derived from poly acrylamide and glutaraldehyde [(2S, 2'S) – N, N' - (pentane-1, 5-diylidene) bis (2- methylbutan amide)] (PAAG) with some heavy metals (Cr +3, Mn + 3, Fe + 3, Co + 2, Ni + 2, Cu + 2, Zn + 2, Cd + 2) to produce corresponding complexes. Schiff bases and their metal complexes are characterized using FTIR spectral, Uv-Vis spectroscopy, conductivity, magnetic moments, Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The prepared polymer was used with zeolite to …

The fractional differential equation provides a powerful mathematical framework for modeling and understanding a wide range of complex, non-local and memory-dependent phenomena in various scientific, engineering and real-world applications. Liver metastasis is a secondary cancerous tumor that develops in the liver due to the spread of cancer cells from a primary cancer originating in another part of the human body. The primary focus of this study is to understand tumor growth in the human liver, both in the presence and absence of medication therapy. To achieve this, a temporal fractional-order parabolic partial differential equation is utilized, and its analysis is …
