An Automated Wavelet Scattering Network Classification Using Three Stages Of Cataract Disease, Enas Hamood Al-Saadi, Ahmed Nidhal Khdiar, Lamis Hamood Al-Saadi

Baghdad Science Journal

A cataract is an eye disease that causes visual distortion and the late stage of this disease can lead to blindness. It is considered a silent disease that can occur without the appearance of symptoms. Therefore, the most effective way to detect cataracts is through accurate and timely detection to prevent hurting, expensive operations, and to stop blindness. The purpose of this paper is to propose an automated system based on the wavelet scattering network which categorizes the patients into four classes: early cataract, intermediate cataract, late cataract, and non-cataract conditions using 512 images of the ODIR dataset (212 Cataract …

Value Of Electrical Heavy Civil Machinery In The American Construction Industry, Kaston Wong Sep 2024

Value Of Electrical Heavy Civil Machinery In The American Construction Industry, Kaston Wong

Construction Management

Every day the construction industry is releasing an unhealthy amount of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The consequences may seem trivial at first because the planet is slowly deteriorating, and it is not easily discernable on a day-to-day basis; however, similar to constantly taking care of one’s home, one must take care of the planet. On the other hand, the difference between degradation of a home and planet is that the pollution released into the world is irreversible; therefore, we need to be even more conscientious of the environment. As the construction industry continues to grow, the need for heavy …

Skin Necrosis Following Digital Wart Intralesional Injection Of Cantharidin, Sebastian Arango, Tristan Weir, Andrew Miller, Meredith Osterman

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty Papers

A right-hand-dominant female presented 5 weeks following a right middle finger intralesional cantharidin injection for a common wart by a dermatologist. The patient experienced progressive stiffness, blistering, swelling, pain, and ultimately, full-thickness skin necrosis surrounding the injection site. Careful debridement followed by a full-thickness skin graft was performed with no evidence of involvement of the germinal matrix or terminal extensor tendon. At the 7-month postoperative mark, the patient’s graft exhibited favorable healing and improved functionality that did not require further follow-up. Intralesional injection of cantharidin solutions for digital warts leads to progressive skin necrosis. Our case required prompt debridement and …

Will Federal Compassionate Release Survive The Death Of Chevron?, Jaden M. Lessnick Sep 2024

Will Federal Compassionate Release Survive The Death Of Chevron?, Jaden M. Lessnick

Nevada Law Journal

In early 2023, the United States Sentencing Commission promulgated a compassionate release policy statement that will reverberate throughout the federal sentencing system for decades to come. In resolving an issue that had sharply divided the circuits, the Commission determined that certain nonretroactive changes in sentencing law could constitute “extraordinary and compelling reasons” for a sentence reduction under 18 U.S.C. § 3582(c)(1)(A). For the hundreds of people serving astronomical sentences that could not be imposed after the First Step Act of 2018, this amended policy statement holds much promise. Under Chevron and its progeny, the Commission’s policy statement should supersede prior, …

No Really, What Should We Do? An Employer’S Guide To Groff V. Dejoy And Juggling Religious Accommodations In The Workplace, Keegan K. Davis

Nevada Law Journal

On June 29, 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court issued an opinion expanding its Title VII workplace religious accommodation jurisprudence with Groff v. DeJoy. For nearly fifty years leading up to Groff, the Court was set on a “more than de minimis” standard for determining when a religious accommodation was too costly for an employer, and therefore did not need to be accommodated as a matter of law. In Groff, the Court raised the bar effectively ending de minimis as employers knew it. Instead of showing that a religious accommodation bears any cost on the business, Groff requires evidence of substantial …

Low-Dose Ondansetron: A Candidate Prospective Precision Medicine To Treat Alcohol Use Disorder Endophenotypes, Bankole Johnson, Hannu Alho, Giovanni Addolorato, Otto Michael Lesch, Jonathan Chick, Lei Liu, Vinzant Schuyler

2020-Current year OA Pubs

BACKGROUND: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and over 95 million people live with alcohol dependence globally. The estimated heritability of AUD is 50-60 %, and multiple genes are thought to contribute to various endophenotypes of the disease. Previous clinical trials support a precision medicine approach using ondansetron (AD04, a 5-HT3 antagonist) by segregating AUD populations by the bio-genetic endophenotype of specific serotonergic genotypes and the bio-psychosocial endophenotype of the severity of drinking or both. By targeting the modulation of biogenetic signaling within the biopsychosocial context of AUD, low-dose AD04 holds promise …

Enhancing Electronic Agriculture Data Security With A Blockchain-Based Search Method And E-Signatures, Duaa Hammoud Tahayur, Mishall Al-Zubaidie

Mesopotamian Journal of CyberSecurity

The production of digital signatures with blockchain constitutes a prerequisite for the security of electronic agriculture applications (EAA), such as the Internet of Things (IoT). To prevent irresponsibility within the blockchain, attackers regularly attempt to manipulate or intercept data stored or sent via EAA-IoT. Additionally, cybersecurity has not received much attention recently because IoT applications are still relatively new. As a result, the protection of EAAs against security threats remains insufficient. Moreover, the security protocols used in contemporary research are still insufficient to thwart a wide range of threats. For these security issues, first, this study proposes a security system …

Mesopotamian Journal of CyberSecurity

Protecting patient data in the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is one of the major challenges facing healthcare organizations because of increasing threats to privacy and security. Although there are many existing protocols and solutions, such as Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA) and El-Gamal cryptographies or centralized methods, that aim to protect data, they suffer from weaknesses such as slow performance or inability to handle large volumes of data. The issue of security in medical records has become an urgent need, and the use of centralized methods can expose them to single-point failure. In this paper, we present the efficient approach to securing …
