Indonesia faces one of the biggest health challenges stemming from non-communicable diseases (degenerative diseases). The incidence of this health problem has shone a spotlight on the international community of both modern and traditional societies in all parts of the world. The shift in lifestyle from traditional to modern living is one of the factors that has led to the high number of degenerative disease cases in Indonesia. Currently, the number of people sickened by these non-communicable diseases continues to increase even at a young age with stroke, heart disease, and diabetes. Depok City as one of the cities that has …

Vaccination is a disease prevention method recommended by the WHO as it will reduce disease severity, mortality rate and risks. The objective of this study is to discover the impact of COVID-19 vaccination against COVID-19 mortality rate in Indonesia. This was a retrospective cohort research on the data from the NAR COVID-19 database and the KPCPEN COVID-19 Dashboard of the Depok City Health Department from May 2020-February 2023. We performed a Cox proportional hazard analysis to obtain the risk for death. We discovered that COVID-19 vaccination reduced the mortality until it was less than 10% of unvaccinated population (0,24% for …

Chronic kidney failure patients must undergo hemodialysis for life, therefore it is important to maximize hemodialysis services in every health facility. Accordingly, factors related to survival rates must be addressed. One of them is low Body Mass Index (BMI). This study assessed the relationship between low BMI and mortality in the patients. The study design used was meta-analysis. The articles involved were in the period 2012 - 2024. There are three literature sources: medical databases, previous studies, and ongoing research. Overall, 26 articles were obtained. Data analysis showed that BMI

Tanzania is endemic to malaria and pregnant women due to their vulnerability are among the high-risk groups. The adoption of malaria interventions targeted to pregnant women is affected by a number of factors. A cross-sectional study using secondary data from Tanzania Demographic Health Survey (TDHS) for 2022 was used. A logistic regression was used for bivariate analysis to identify factors affecting the adoption of malaria interventions during pregnancy in Tanzania. Data from pregnant women between 15 to 49 years (N=1408) were analyzed in this study. Insecticide treated nets (ITNs) and intermittent preventive therapy in pregnancy using sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (IPTp-SP) were the …

Early Detection Of Amniotic Fluid Embolism Leading To Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Prior To Cardiac Arrest, Enad Haddad, Hamza Muhammadzai, Shayan Iqbal Khan, Angad Bedi, Rajesh Patel
Abington Jefferson Health Papers
Amniotic fluid embolism is a life-threatening peripartum condition with high morbidity and mortality rates. It is defined as the passage of fetal material into the maternal circulation which elicits a multisystem reaction that can lead to disseminated intravascular coagulopathy and severe hemodynamic instability. Despite established diagnostic criteria for amniotic fluid embolism, its identification relies heavily on clinical judgment, and early diagnosis is key to patient survival. In several cases, early utilization of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support has provided a salvage approach to correct cardiopulmonary collapse. Herein, we present a case of successful application of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in a …

Iatrogenic ventricular septal defect (VSD) is a rare complication following transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). An 83-year-old male underwent TAVI for severe aortic stenosis (AS) and was diagnosed with a peri-membranous VSD on echocardiography, which was not evident on pre-procedural imaging. This case highlights the risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, and management of iatrogenic VSD following TAVI.

Advancing Prediction Of Stimulant Medication Misuse Through Graph Representation Learning, Hamid Razavi
Theses
The misuse of stimulant prescription medications poses a significant and escalating public health concern in the United States, particularly among young adults. Addressing this issue requires sophisticated methodologies capable of uncovering complex patterns and relationships in data. Geometric Deep Learning, a paradigm designed to analyze data with non-Euclidean structures, has achieved remarkable success across various domains, offering a powerful framework for tackling complex graph structure data challenges.
This study leverages Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) to predict the likelihood of stimulant medication misuse using data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). Individuals are represented as nodes in …

Lack of meaning and purpose in life can increase disability, stress, mortality, and the risk of cognitive impairment. Finding meaning and purpose helps people with dementia adjust to the diagnosis and can be accomplished via expressions of identity such as life review, a formal process of systematically reviewing and reflecting on one’s lived life. Digital storytelling involves telling a story using computer technology to record and share an individual’s narrative. The purpose of this study was to understand the perceived benefits of nursing students and people with dementia (the mentors) described after digitally co-creating the mentors’ life story. Concussions In Women’S Rugby: A Timely Review Of Available Data, Shannon M. Wright
Concussions In Women’S Rugby: A Timely Review Of Available Data, Shannon M. Wright
Clinical Practice in Athletic Training
Rugby is a growing full-contact sport across the world for both men and women; as a full-contact sport with no protective equipment, it has a reputation for high injury rates, including concussions. Organized men’s rugby has been established for over a century, whereas organized women’s rugby has struggled to achieve the same success over the years. With a much shorter amount of time to track injuries, women’s rugby lacks data to assess when, where, and what kinds of injuries are most common. The guiding study attempts to examine epidemiological trends for concussion in women’s rugby union and league. After pooling …

Utilization Of Organic Waste As Takakura Compost And Its Effect On The Growth Of Chili Plants, Yusva Dwi Saputra
Preventia: The Indonesian Journal of Public Health
Garbage is still an environmental problem in Indonesia. One of the main causes of Indonesia's expanding waste problem is domestic garbage, of which 75 percent is organic waste. Although organic waste is easy to decompose, its accumulation can increase the greenhouse effect. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce organic waste. Takakura compost is one method of reducing organic waste that is not widely known. This experimental study was conducted to provide an overview of the Takakura composting method and its effect on the growth of chili plants. Composting uses an EM4 activator, and the variables observed in the composting process …
