Adaptive Watermarking Scheme For Enhanced Image Authentication And Restoration, Merna E. Ibrahim, Mohamed G. Abdelfattah, Mohamed A. Mohamed

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Traditional fragile watermarking schemes often struggle to balance tamper detection accuracy, image quality, and processing speed. This paper presents a novel adaptive fragile watermarking scheme that leverages Canny-edge detection to dynamically adjust watermark embedding based on image features. The proposed approach classifies image regions into smooth and dense areas. Larger 4×4 blocks are employed in smooth regions, prioritizing visual quality and processing speed, while smaller 2×2 blocks are used in edge and dense regions to enhance tamper detection accuracy. This adaptive strategy effectively balances competing factors, resulting in superior recovered image quality compared to fixed-block schemes. Experimental results demonstrate the …

Optimized Vgg16 For Multi-Class Classification Of Alzheimer's Disease, Amira M. Basuoni, Hussein Seleem, Amira S. Ashour

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a severe neurological disorder that leads to memory loss and other cognitive impairments, ultimately resulting in death. With the advancement of deep learning, several researchers implemented a deep learning (DL)-based classification system for diagnosing such disease. However, determining the proper setting of the parameters, like learning rate and the number of dense units in the classification model is essential to achieve the best performance. Although manual tuning and grid search methods may be used, they are often time-consuming and cannot achieve the optimal model’s design. Accordingly, this paper proposed an improved model of the Visual Geometry …

Eros And The Sublime: Tools For Reaching Toward An Altered Ecological Consciousness, Aineka Carlson Jan 2025

Eros And The Sublime: Tools For Reaching Toward An Altered Ecological Consciousness, Aineka Carlson

Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers

This thesis explores connections between the Kantian sublime and Anne Carson’s ideas regarding “eros.” Since Kant’s Critique of Judgement was published in 1790, the Kantian sublime has grown in popularity and been utilized by theorists and creative writers alike. While the Kantian sublime is often associated with nature in popular culture, there are certain egocentric and phallocentric elements of this mode of thinking that might inhibit a biocentric mindset. Through a character study of Oryx from Margaret Atwood’s novel Oryx and Crake, this thesis draws relations between the subjugation of women, nature, and the ways in which the popularized …

Disentangling Trait Affect From Situational Affect In The Prediction Of Academic Major Satisfaction, Margaret M. Nauta Jan 2025

Disentangling Trait Affect From Situational Affect In The Prediction Of Academic Major Satisfaction, Margaret M. Nauta

Faculty Publications – Psychology

This study clarifies the role of emotions in determining college students’ satisfaction with their choice of academic major by separating trait affect from situational affect. Students (N = 196) first completed a measure of trait affect administered via an online survey. Two weeks later, on a second survey, they reported the frequency of positive and negative emotions they experienced in major-related classes (i.e., situational affect) and a measure of academic major satisfaction. Emotions experienced in classes were associated with major satisfaction after controlling for trait affect, suggesting satisfaction is not merely a function of disposition. This finding suggests interventions …

Perceived Ostracism And Fathers’ Experiences Of Grief And Trauma After Miscarriage, Eric D. Wesselmann, Jordan A. Arellanes, Leandra Parris

Faculty Publications – Psychology

Miscarriage can be a traumatic experience with serious mental health implications for parents. However, fathers’ experiences and outcomes post-miscarriage are understudied compared to those of mothers. Previous research focused on mothers’ experiences found that perceived ostracism correlated with grief intensity and posttraumatic stress symptoms, predicting unique variance in symptoms beyond grief intensity factors. We replicate several of these research findings in a sample of fathers and demonstrate that their perceived ostracism correlated positively with posttraumatic stress symptoms and negatively with grief reality (i.e. the pregnancy did not feel real to them). Perceived ostracism also explained additional variance in posttraumatic stress …

Articles

We present a novel method to promote intersystem crossing (ISC) and triplet state formation in boron dipyrromethenes (BODIPYs) through the asymmetrical introduction of functional groups within the chromophore. This approach enables the development of new BODIPY photosensitizers without relying on the incorporation of heavy atoms or large electron-donating aromatic groups. Demonstrated on a series of 14 synthesized asymmetrical BODIPY (aBDP) compounds, it significantly enhances photosensitization efficiency compared to the reference symmetrical BODIPYs. In particular, the asymmetrical introduction of ethoxycarbonyl groups into pyrrolic rings of the BODIPY core lead to efficient ISC and singlet oxygen generation, with quantum yields reaching 0.76 …

Predicting Early Hospital Readmissions For Diabetic Patients Using Machine Learning, Amanda Ferraz, Leonardo Oliveira

ICT

This project applies machine learning to predict whether diabetic patients will be readmitted to a hospital within 30 days of discharge. Early readmissions are a costly and critical issue in healthcare, often signalling gaps in post-discharge care and risk management. Diabetic patients face unfair high readmission rates compared to the general population. According to the CDC Diabetes Report Card 37.3 million people in the U.S. or 11.3% of the population had diabetes as of 2019 (CDC, 2021). Our goal here is to develop a binary classification model capable of flagging high risk patient (< 30-day readmission) based on their clinical, demographic, and administrative data. This lets healthcare institutions to take measures,
