Accessible Extracurriculars Without Teacher Exploitation, Makenzie Wrightstone
Accessible Extracurriculars Without Teacher Exploitation, Makenzie Wrightstone
West Chester University Master’s Theses
The research explores how extracurricular activities support holistic development and address barriers, especially for students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds or with disabilities, using social reproduction theory and educational philosophies. It highlights how extracurriculars foster cognitive, social, and emotional growth but are often inaccessible due to financial, logistical, and instructional challenges. The study also examines teacher burnout and dehumanization, providing a historical view of extracurriculars in American schools, analyzing current policies, and considering how technology impacts student engagement. It proposes a transformative framework combining adventure, place-based, and transformative learning, advocating for integrating activities into school hours to enhance access, equity, and …
Current Trending Topics In Bilingual Education, Tomas Espinoza
Current Trending Topics In Bilingual Education, Tomas Espinoza
2024-2025 Bill Martin Jr. Yearbook
Researchers have analyzed the results of the What’s Hot, What’s Not in Literacy surveys over the past two decades to increase literacy priorities and possible impacts. However, there is a lack of research in the field of bilingual education. Topics such as bilingualism, multiculturalism, social justice, biliteracy, minority representation, family engagement, culturally responsive pedagogy, college readiness, and 21st-century skills have not been as highly rated as in the past, yet these should warrant more attention to assist bilingual students better. The purpose of this study was to describe the current trending topics in bilingual education. Bilingual experts, teachers, and students …

Resting-State Electrodermal Activity In Adults With And Without Adhd, Charles Knowlton
Resting-State Electrodermal Activity In Adults With And Without Adhd, Charles Knowlton
Theses & ETDs
A growing body of literature shows strong evidence for children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) exhibiting hypoarousal compared to neurotypical children. This research is supported in conditions where stimuli are present and at a resting-state. However, the research with adult ADHD is conflicting. Adults with ADHD have been shown to exhibit no difference, hypoarousal, and hyperarousal compared to neurotypical adults. Therefore, the present study aims to employ a resting-state analysis of electrodermal activity (arousal) between self-reporting adults with ADHD (n = 11) and without ADHD (n = 8). A self-report questionnaire was also utilized to quantify the participant’s ADHD symptoms. Participants …

The American Oligarchy, Match Dawson
The American Oligarchy, Match Dawson
Faculty Articles
What was designed as a constitutional republic, bound by self-rule and democratic accountability, has become an oligarchy camouflaged by the illusion of public sovereignty. The corporate architects of this new world order did not seize power through conquest or force: they legislated, litigated, and purchased it into existence. Oligarchic rule is more than a simple political crisis. It is a democratic one. Just as prior generations have been called upon to preserve the republic against threats to liberty, we now face our own defining challenge and must decide whether to accept a government auctioned to the highest bidder or reclaim …

Sars-Cov-2 Genomic Surveillance Using Self-Collected Saliva Specimens During Occupational Testing Programs, Andy T. Schnaubelt, David Brett-Major, Janet Williamson, Bailey Barcal, Julie Carstens, Ashley Peer, Michael R. Wiley, M. Jana Broadhurst
Journal Articles: Epidemiology
Continually emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants pose challenges to clinical and public health interventions, necessitating sustainable approaches to real-time variant monitoring. This case study describes an innovative SARS-CoV-2 screening and surveillance program that demonstrates the utility of sequencing-based variant monitoring using self-collected saliva specimens. We conducted saliva-based SARS-CoV-2 screening in occupational settings in Omaha, Nebraska from December 2021 through November 2022. 8,372 saliva specimens collected from 1,480 participants were tested for SARS-CoV-2 RNA by extraction-free PCR, with 334 positive samples referred for whole-genome sequencing analysis. Program utilization, quality metrics, and sequencing outputs were compared across sites. Specimen quality was high across program …

Habitat Edge Impacts On Predators In The Arcata Community Forest, Megan Singer
Habitat Edge Impacts On Predators In The Arcata Community Forest, Megan Singer
IdeaFest 2025
Predators play a crucial role in ecosystem processes within various habitat types. My study aimed to analyze the impact of habitat edges on predators in the Arcata Community Forest by using remote camera traps to document predator presence in edge versus interior habitat sites. I also conducted supplemental vegetation surveys to compare the mean vegetation density at edge versus interior habitat sites. I predicted that if predator presence is influenced by habitat type and vegetation density, then predator presence would be higher at edge habitat sites than interior habitat sites, and there would be a negative correlation between predator presence …

Concealed Carry And The Right To Self Defense In Missouri, Andrew Stafford Ii
Concealed Carry And The Right To Self Defense In Missouri, Andrew Stafford Ii
Law Student Works
Firearm regulation, both nationally and in Missouri, sits at the center of ongoing constitutional debate and evolving public policy. Missouri’s legal landscape reflects a significant shift over the past two decades. The state moved from a traditional permit-based concealed carry system to a broad permitless carry framework that allows most adults to carry concealed firearms without a permit. This shift follows major developments in federal Second Amendment case law, including District of Columbia v. Heller, McDonald v. Chicago, and New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n v. Bruen, as well as Missouri’s 2014 constitutional amendment requiring courts to evaluate restrictions …

Hypertension In Incarcerated Adults, Jennifer Dreyer
Hypertension In Incarcerated Adults, Jennifer Dreyer
IdeaFest 2025
The issue of high blood pressure in jails calls for innovative techniques to screen, intervene, and educate about cardiovascular health. There are many patients that arrive under duress, intoxicated, or have pre-existing hypertension. Most do not seek treatment for hypertension due to a lack of obvious symptoms. If a patient is found to be hypertensive, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions must be implemented. It is important to distinguish individual risk factors and social needs to develop patient-centered care plans. High blood pressure management is a definitively complex issue in correctional healthcare, especially for those who experience health inequity.

Effects Of Weight Management Techniques On Female Athletes' Mental Health In Weight-Class Sports, Paige Cato-Stahl
IdeaFest 2025
This project explored the psychological effects of weight management techniques on female athletes in weight-class sports. Drawing from personal experience in MMA and jiu-jitsu, I conducted a literature review to examine how weight cutting impacts mental health. Findings revealed high rates of anxiety, emotional burnout, disordered eating, and long-term distress. The research emphasizes the need for mental health support, athlete-centered interventions, and policy reform to protect female athletes from the unseen psychological costs of making weight.

The Effects Of Outdoor Physical Therapy Sessions On Depression And Overall Recovery Rate In Elderly Patients, Elizabeth H. Cameron
IdeaFest 2025
This research explores how integrating outdoor environments into elderly rehabilitation programs may improve patient outcomes. Traditional rehabilitation often occurs in clinical indoor settings, but growing evidence suggests natural environments can enhance physical recovery and mental health. This study investigates whether outdoor therapy positively influences mobility, endurance, mood, and stress levels in elderly patients, aiming to highlight the potential for nature-based rehabilitation practices.

Practical Faith For The Real World Reading As If, Believing As If, Kylie Turley
BYU Studies
A few years ago, I was talking with some friends about the Book of Mormon. Actually, if you know me much at all, then you know that those last five words are unnecessary. Of course I was talking about the Book of Mormon. My children have been known to complain that the Book of Mormon is all I talk about. But let’s continue the story: One of my friends indicated that we “cannot read the Book of Mormon down to the word level.” She insisted that it was just not possible to read it “as if individual words are meaningful.”

Reimagining The College On The Hill: A History Of The Black Working Class At Connecticut College, 1911-1955, Jonathan Dayan
History Honors Papers
The stories of domestic labor at this institution demand a reassessment of the history of the College, its relationship with the city of New London, and the life of the College’s first Black graduate. While Connecticut College was founded explicitly to offer women in the state of Connecticut a chance at a higher education, the College’s progressive mission was tempered from the start by its elitist ambitions and its reliance on the hierarchies of race, class and gender that shaped both American education and labor at the dawn of the 20th century. From its earliest days, the College made an …

Taxation is a key component of economic development. This Article is about taxation of land within Indian country. It considers existing law that allows for state taxation of some land within Indian country. It makes a normative claim as to who the proper taxing sovereign should be based on tax policy principles and principles that support tribal self-governance and tribal sovereignty.

From Principles To Implementation: Evaluating Social Justice And Inclusive Education In Holy Cross Elite Institutions Of Bangladesh, Md Shaikh Farid
From Principles To Implementation: Evaluating Social Justice And Inclusive Education In Holy Cross Elite Institutions Of Bangladesh, Md Shaikh Farid
Journal of Catholic Education
This paper examines how Catholic Social Teaching (CST), particularly its commitments to social justice and inclusive education, is interpreted and enacted by the Congregation of Holy Cross within three elite institutions in Bangladesh. Drawing on institutional documents and semistructured interviews with educators and administrators, it analyzes how Catholic educational ideals are negotiated within competitive urban contexts. The findings show that while Holy Cross institutions articulate strong commitments to human dignity, moral formation, and service to the poor, these values are expressed mainly through institutional culture and outreach initiatives rather than systematically embedded in admissions, academic structures, or governance. Meritbased admissions, …
The Impact Of A Geriatric Trauma Unit On Patient Outcomes, Shannon E. Johnson
The Impact Of A Geriatric Trauma Unit On Patient Outcomes, Shannon E. Johnson
DNP Projects
Abstract
Background: Traumatic injuries in the geriatric (> 65) patient population can have devastating effects. Only a small percentage of these patients return to independent ambulation and living. As the population continues to age and life expectancy continues to increase, the incidence of traumatic injuries in geriatric patients will continue to increase. Geriatric friendly hospital wards in several disciplines have been shown to reduce length of stay and improve patient outcomes. However, there has been no research surrounding geriatric trauma wards specifically.
Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the impact of admitting geriatric trauma patients …
Linguists: Our Evolving Role, Patricia Macgregor-Mendoza
Linguists: Our Evolving Role, Patricia Macgregor-Mendoza
International Journal of the Linguistic Association of the Southwest
As linguists, we play many roles in and out of the classroom. In our classes, we strive to educate students about the nuances of linguistic systems, encourage them to expand upon their innate knowledge of language and inspire them to use this knowledge to enhance their lives, their careers, and their communities. However, as Bucholtz et al. (2014) remind us, “scholars should not simply speak out as expert advocates on behalf of marginalized groups, as important as this responsibility is, but they must also help empower their research participants to take action themselves (Cameron et al. 1992, 1993)” suggesting that …
