Organization Of Geophysical Parties For Foreign Exploration, Charles Howard Dresbach Jan 1939

Organization Of Geophysical Parties For Foreign Exploration, Charles Howard Dresbach

Professional Degree Theses

"Special conditions encountered in much foreign work make it necessary to consider many factors which are not encountered in domestic programs of geophysical exploration for oil. Although extremely difficult working conditions are frequently met in domestic operations by company and contract crews, the large store of past experience, the availability of fresh supplies, replacement or new equipment, and the proximity of the helpful home office make their surmountal more or less a matter of routine. Contrariwise, foreign operations are frequently conducted under much more difficult conditions, supplies and equipment can be secured only after long and costly delays, and the …

Sinking And Equipping Inclined Shafts Of More Than 60 Degree Dip, Wilford Stillman Wright Jan 1938

Sinking And Equipping Inclined Shafts Of More Than 60 Degree Dip, Wilford Stillman Wright

Professional Degree Theses

"The advisability of putting down an inclined shaft in preference to the vertical type should be carefully considered before a definite choice is made. One, of course, presupposes the existence of a dipping ore body that is to be prospected or developed for subsequent mining. Unless a vein has been previously developed there is no certainty that it maintains the same degree of pitch for any great distance below surfaces. If straight, the proposed inclined shaft may depart considerably from the downward course of the vein with the result, that, at least some of the anticipated advantages of the shaft …

Certain Aspects Of The H-Ion Concentration Of The Soils Of A Central Indiana River Bluff, Stanley A. Cain, Ray C. Friesner Jan 1930

Certain Aspects Of The H-Ion Concentration Of The Soils Of A Central Indiana River Bluff, Stanley A. Cain, Ray C. Friesner

Butler University Botanical Studies

In a recent paper, Cain and Friesner (3) found that there was a relation between topography and the hydrogen-ion concentration of the soil. This work was done on certain hills in the Sycamore creek region, Morgan county, Indiana, where it was found that the acidity was greater on the hilltops and less in the intervening ravines, so that curves representing the degree of acidity of the soil at different points on a line crossing the hills were roughly parallel with the topography. The average acidity on three ridge tops was pH 5.3, while the adjacent ravine bottoms were practically neutral, …
