Mecklenburg County Veteran Needs Assessment, Mary Rachel Keville, Nosa Akol, Zachary Bridgewater, Gilly Cantor, Emily Graham, Vincent Delsignore

Institute for Veterans and Military Families

Mecklenburg County’s Community Support Services’ Veterans Services Division (MCVSO) has sought to strategically improve their outreach and engagement with veterans and the military community within Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. To achieve this, MCVSO partnered with the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) and Veterans Bridge Home (VBH) to design and deliver a community needs assessment focused on understanding the county’s veteran population, identifying service gaps, understanding barriers to care, and assessing how to best engage the veteran population. A multi-format needs assessment survey was designed and marketed towards the military-connected community within Mecklenburg County. The assessment was supplemented …

Dynamic K-Anonymity, Anonymous Jun 2026

Dynamic K-Anonymity, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques are disclosed for privacy enforcement in streaming data aggregation. Contextual signals for an aggregation breakdown are obtained, including signals such as breakdown cardinality, traffic volume, targeting specificity, data age, regulatory tier, and cross-breakdown overlap. A risk score in a bounded range is computed and mapped to a dynamic k-anonymity threshold between configured minimum and maximum values, optionally adjusted for composition risk based on how many breakdowns a user contributes to. An existing k-anonymity check uses the dynamic threshold to gate release. Separately or in a closed loop, probabilistic cardinality sketches are monitored over time to forecast whether cohorts will …

Language Model System For Account Compromise Detection Via Multi-Signal Business Graph Reasoning, Anonymous Jun 2026

Language Model System For Account Compromise Detection Via Multi-Signal Business Graph Reasoning, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods are described for pre-monetization detection of business account compromise using large language model reasoning over business-graph evidence. A pipeline selects candidate accounts based on novel behavior such as advertising on previously unseen pages or domains. For each candidate, signals are aggregated across categories including account structural metadata, creator indicators, candidate ad content attributes, historical baseline ad attributes, administrative access modification records, and business activity events. Heterogeneous signals are transformed into a structured natural-language representation organized by category and combined with embedded domain heuristics specifying compromise indicators, non-compromise indicators, and exclusion criteria. A large language model processes the …

Seamus Heaney And The “Mode Of Grief”: Three Elegies Of Field Work, Lucy Whitney Jun 2026

Seamus Heaney And The “Mode Of Grief”: Three Elegies Of Field Work, Lucy Whitney

Undergraduate Honors Theses

In 1981, Seamus Heaney discussed the role of poetry as “more a mode for grief than grievance” (407). This essay is concerned with how Heaney used poetry to grieve suffering, death, and loss, especially within the context of “The Troubles” in Ireland from roughly 1965 to 1998. To better understand Heaney’s poetry, this essay will explore three elegies, “Casualty,” “The Strand at Lough Beg,” and “In Memoriam Francis Ledwidge.” These three grieving poems examine different facets of both the elegy and Irish history and conflict. Within them, Heaney creates modes of both mourning and healing for the many emotions associated …

[Early Bird] The Texas Common Ownership Litigation: Sustainability, Competition, And The Boundaries Of Asset Manager Capitalism, Federico Ghezzi Jun 2026

[Early Bird] The Texas Common Ownership Litigation: Sustainability, Competition, And The Boundaries Of Asset Manager Capitalism, Federico Ghezzi

Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies

This article analyzes the recent attempt by the Texas Attorney General to invoke the common ownership doctrine as a new antitrust weapon against large institutional investors allegedly engaged in coordinated ESG strategies. The case represents a peculiar reversal of the traditional logic of the theory: rather than being used to constrain horizontal shareholdings that may reduce competition, common ownership is deployed here to challenge collective action aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. The paper situates this development within the broader debate on the anticompetitive effects of horizontal ownership, briefly examining the economic assumptions underlying the theory, the limits of its empirical …

Programmes That Integrate Parenting Support And Financial Well-Being Support: A Systematic Scoping Review, Eleanor F. Bryant, Morwenna Rogers, Amy Bond, Georgia Smith, Rebecca Summers, James Hall, Kristin Liabo, Iain Lang, Vashti Berry, Nick Axford Jun 2026

Programmes That Integrate Parenting Support And Financial Well-Being Support: A Systematic Scoping Review, Eleanor F. Bryant, Morwenna Rogers, Amy Bond, Georgia Smith, Rebecca Summers, James Hall, Kristin Liabo, Iain Lang, Vashti Berry, Nick Axford

Peninsula Medical School

Childhood experiences of economic disadvantage have harmful and long-lasting effects on child health. Early intervention can reduce some harms but it is unclear whether addressing economic disadvantage alongside psychosocial support yields additional benefits. This systematic scoping review aimed to identify evaluated programmes that integrate parenting support (PS) and financial well-being support (FWbS) for parents of children aged 0–19. The objectives were to describe programmes, relevant components, evaluation designs and impact on outcomes, and to consider if any programmes merit replication and testing in a UK context. Outcome or implementation evaluations of integrated PS and FWbS programmes published in English were …

Topographic Control Of Forest Species Distributions In The Interior West From Forest Inventory And Analysis Data, R. Justin Derose, Matthew F. Bekker Jun 2026

Topographic Control Of Forest Species Distributions In The Interior West From Forest Inventory And Analysis Data, R. Justin Derose, Matthew F. Bekker

Wildland Resources Faculty Publications

The geographic distribution of forest and woodland ecosystems in the Interior West United States is strongly influenced by topographic factors that, in part, control moisture availability through their effect on insolation, precipitation capture, and retention. Through an empirical approach, we use unique, plot-level data from the Forest Inventory and Analysis Program (n = 13,437) over eight ecoregions within eight Interior West states to characterize the distribution of the 12 most abundant tree species with respect to the effects of elevation, slope aspect, and slope steepness. Across species, elevation, and aspect, most forested plots occurred on gentle slopes and the …

Crowd-Sourced Glacier Mapping As A Tool For Enhancing Climate Literacy And Data Generation, Caroline Clason, Sally Rangecroft, Shaun Lewin, Gina Kallis, Tom Mullier, Will Blake, Iain Stewart

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Citizen science approaches are increasingly used to support data generation and public engagement across the environmental sciences, yet their wider pedagogical value within physical geography remains underexamined. To explore the value of mapping-based citizen science for both glaciological investigation and geographical learning, we developed GlacierMap, an interactive online tool enabling participants to map glacier change in Peru’s Cordillera Blanca over a 34-year period. GlacierMap was designed not only to assess the feasibility and value of crowd-sourced glacier mapping, but also as a vehicle to support experiential learning of the trends in, and impacts of, tropical mountain glacier retreat. Participants mapped …

Historian David “Titus” Luthy (1941–2025): A Principled Convert, The Personification Of Academia Among The Amish, Cory Anderson Jun 2026

Historian David “Titus” Luthy (1941–2025): A Principled Convert, The Personification Of Academia Among The Amish, Cory Anderson

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

David Richard Luthy—Amish historian, bibliographer, editor, and the founding steward of the Heritage Historical Library at Aylmer, Ontario—died on Oct 21, 2025, in North Carolina, where he had gone two weeks earlier to be near his children after spending a last summer at his home in Aylmer. He was 84. Worthy of a New York Times obituary, his passing drew little notice beyond Amish and Plain Anabaptist circles, yet few figures of the past half-century did more to shape how the Old Order Amish remember themselves or what primary materials scholars have been able to access. By any reckoning, he …

George Sand, Writing About The Self While Travelling, Ana Fernandes Jun 2026

George Sand, Writing About The Self While Travelling, Ana Fernandes

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

George Sand’s travelogue published in 1841 under the title Un hiver à Majorque is now a classic of travel literature. The reader’s interest is often focused on the use of the report as a source of biographical information - not so much about the trip to Majorca as about the author’s love affair with Chopin. The present article focuses on Un hiver à Majorque as a structure of literary works, which is to be analysed with regard to the author’s treatment of the literary conventions of the French travelogue in the nineteenth century. We begin by summarising the status and …

Some Palestinian Autobiographies Or ‘Only Palestine Is Real, Jacqueline Jondot

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

This paper addresses the issue of writing reality and history in the autobiographies of some Palestinian writers. These autobiographies well directly from memories which become in the hands of their writers the only viable sources to document the Palestinian history. The position of the exile allows for the making of that history. The argument here goes to make these auto/biographies/ testimonials the raison-d’etre and the embodiment of a real Palestine.

Accounting And Economic System Classification: An Adverse Effect Of The Misconceptualization Of Capital, Henry Zeno Chalu Jun 2026

Accounting And Economic System Classification: An Adverse Effect Of The Misconceptualization Of Capital, Henry Zeno Chalu

Business Management Review

This paper discusses the influence of accounting on economic system classification. Particularly, it traces how a misconception of the accounting term ‘capital’ led to a misleading characterization of capitalism and socialism as inherently oppositional economic systems. This misunderstanding stems from neglect of the two complementary modes of thought on which accounting as a science rests: reasoning, which is the conceptual, idealistic dimension, and proving, which is the technical, physicalist dimension. Both modes are integral to the construction of most of the accounting terms used in economics. If an accounting conceptualization had been followed, capitalism and socialism would not …

L2) More Than Faith: Self-Fulfilment As A Key Driver Of Memorable Religious Tourism, Sau Ying Pamela Ho, Jing (Bill) Xu

International Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage Conferences

While traditional perspectives on religious tourism often emphasize faith as the primary motivator, this study challenges that assumption, revealing that the pursuit of self-fulfilment is a more powerful and significant driver of memorable visitor experiences. This research delves into the psychological underpinnings of pilgrimage, seeking to understand what transforms a simple visit into a profoundly impactful journey that enhances a visitor’s sense of self-worth.

To investigate these dynamics, the study adopted the ABC Model of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT). This framework posits that an Activating event (visiting a religious attraction) triggers an individual’s internal Belief system (religiosity and self-fulfilment), …

K3) From Sacred Landscape To Pilgrimage Environment: The Case Of Monte San Giorgio And Mendrisio, Lorenzo Cantoni, Adine Gavazzi Jun 2026

K3) From Sacred Landscape To Pilgrimage Environment: The Case Of Monte San Giorgio And Mendrisio, Lorenzo Cantoni, Adine Gavazzi

International Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage Conferences

Across Europe, numerous historic pilgrimage landscapes no longer function as dominant religious destinations, yet devotional practices persist in fragmented, latent, or reinterpreted forms. Pilgrimage however appears to be undergoing a process of transformation within postsecular communities, where spiritual meaning coexists with heritage tourism, community identity, and cultural landscape management. Building on religious tourism studies, pilgrimage is understood as mobility toward sacred sites as well as a ritual process embedded in tradition, motivation, and lived experience (Griffin & Raj 2017). Contemporary scholarship emphasises that pilgrimage preserve the experiential and relational practice linking people, landscape and belief systems, while fighting the tourist …

I1) Ancient Pilgrimage Routes As Tools For Durable Territorial Development: Insights From The Camino De Santiago And The Via Francigena, Maria Laura Gasparini

International Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage Conferences

Pilgrimage is a practice common to all major religions, involving a journey undertaken for spiritual or religious purposes towards a sacred site (Smith, 1992). Considered a forerunner of modern tourism (Di Giovine & Elsner, 2016; pilgrimage today is experiencing a notable phase of rejuvenation (Collins-Kreiner, 2016), increasingly marked by personal quests for meaning and spirituality (Trono, 2015). Beyond its religious and spiritual dimension, pilgrimage has been revitalised globally as a form of outdoor and slow tourism. The growing development of both historical and contemporary routes has captured the attention of policymakers, who increasingly recognise their potential for fostering local development, …
