Improvisation In Agile Environments To Manage Disruption From Vuca Events, Christopher J. Remediani Jun 2025

Improvisation In Agile Environments To Manage Disruption From Vuca Events, Christopher J. Remediani

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) events have always existed and demonstrated increases in regularity as well as damage. Management’s ability to mitigate and manage VUCA events has been challenged as they and nonmanagement employees are required to engage in rapid problem analysis and decision-making outside of standard procedures to identify and implement solutions. The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to explore lived experiences of Agile practitioners in the information technology (IT) industry regarding their integration of improvisation techniques to mitigate and manage VUCA disruptions. Semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions were used to guide the study and address …

Ways Of Living And Knowing, Reem El Hassan Mohamed Jun 2025

Ways Of Living And Knowing, Reem El Hassan Mohamed

Theses and Dissertations

After decades of sedentarization, the Muzeina tribe in South Sinai now has new generations born into sedentary lifestyles, never experiencing nomadism like their ancestors once did. This shift has impacted their knowledge system, traditionally shaped by interactions and kinship with nature. Exposure to social media is influencing younger generations' ways of living, raising the older generations’ concerns about their Bedouin identity. Despite being one of the largest tribes in South Sinai, the Muzeina are rarely represented in literature.

This ethnography explores the impact of sedentarization and contextual developments on the Muzeina's knowledge system, inherited from their ancestors. Muzeina’s relationship, and …

Assessing The Impact Of Digital Transformation On Regulatory Processes And Systems Compared To Traditional Paper-Based Processes At The Egyptian Drug Authority, Rania Aa Soliman

Theses and Dissertations

In the past several decades, the rate of scientific and technological advancements in drug development and digital fields have been extraordinary. Internet of Things and block chain technologies are currently viable in the mature cloud computing industry, these transformative examples contrast starkly with the current pharmaceutical regulatory submission, review, and approval process of the EDA. However, with the emergence of initiatives that aim to improve and expedite regulatory decision-making, there is a promising future ahead. These initiatives, if successful, will not only transform the current transactional structure but also leverage scientific and technological advances to deliver patient-centric therapies. This radical …

“Redefining The Fortress” Migrant Experiences, Adaptation And Connection Within Serbian Borderlands, Nicholas J. Leone Jun 2025

“Redefining The Fortress” Migrant Experiences, Adaptation And Connection Within Serbian Borderlands, Nicholas J. Leone

Theses and Dissertations

Abstract This thesis seeks to examine migrant experiences due to Serbia's geopolitical significance along the so-called Balkan route, and how this is specifically exemplified in the northern autonomous region of Vojvodina. Serbia’s position outside the external border of the European Union has caused it to be a strategic transit point for migrants en route to desired destinations, typically within Western and Northern Europe. However, the European Union’s externalization policies in partnership with Serbian authorities have played an extensive role in migration mobility patterns and humanitarian conditions for migrants traversing within the Serbian borderlands, specifically along the border with Hungary. The …

Restoring The Primacy Of Army Mobilization Planning: Lessons From The Interwar Period (1919–41), Tim Devine

The US Army War College Quarterly: Parameters

This article argues that the US Army must restore the primacy of mobilization planning to prepare for the growing likelihood of a protracted large-scale war involving the United States. While the Army’s transformation initiatives have emphasized important tactical matters, this piece calls attention to critical strategic vulnerabilities associated with mobilization—one of the Army’s enduring core functions. The article identifies insights, challenges, and recommendations for contemporary leaders and practitioners by analyzing the body of thought on mobilization planning during the interwar period (1919–41) and drawing connections to the present day.

Digital Strolls Using Unicdent Toolkit-Part 2: Reimagining The Walking Method For Online Participation, Prashanti Eachempati, John Martin, Sally Hanks, Mona Nasser Jun 2025

Digital Strolls Using Unicdent Toolkit-Part 2: Reimagining The Walking Method For Online Participation, Prashanti Eachempati, John Martin, Sally Hanks, Mona Nasser

Peninsula Dental School

Distance and remoteness no longer pose barriers to conducting meaningful research, as the adaptation of participatory methods can address these challenges effectively. This article examines the transformation of the UniCDent Toolkit, originally designed to capture patients' perceptions of uncertainty in dental environments, for online participatory interactions with dentists. The toolkit, which uses the walking method, incorporates components such as imagery, gallery walks, quadrant mapping, and trade-offs to explore uncertainty in dental practice. Initially, dentists expressed discomfort in sharing their uncertainty in a group setting, prompting a shift to an online format that maintained participant engagement and created a safe space …

Reparative Cuteness: Summer Camp Island’S Obfuscated Streaming Distribution Reveals Our Dependence On Monetary Care, James R. Hanjian Jun 2025

Reparative Cuteness: Summer Camp Island’S Obfuscated Streaming Distribution Reveals Our Dependence On Monetary Care, James R. Hanjian

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Summer Camp Island exhibits the culmination of the animation styles and ethics of dependent care produced within contemporary Cartoon Network animations. As part of the production cycle of Warner Bros. animated television programs following Adventure Time, Julia Pott’s animated program depicts networks of collaborative care informed by the lived realities of the creator-animators. By employing a reparative reading of the narratives and cute aesthetics which appear in the program, I maintain that the care networks presented within the diegesis of Summer Camp Island depict alternatives to the precarious economic and industrial realities that actively shaped the show’s production and distribution. …

Nepaliness As Assemblage: Diasporic Belonging, Colorism, And Caste In The Associational Life Of Nepali Migrants In Florida, Shuvechha Ghimire Sharma Jun 2025

Nepaliness As Assemblage: Diasporic Belonging, Colorism, And Caste In The Associational Life Of Nepali Migrants In Florida, Shuvechha Ghimire Sharma

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The research fundamentally challenges romanticized ideas of migration—shedding older inequalities, idealizing “leveling up,” and being a part of “unified diasporic communities”—and unmasks a rather uneasy, far more intricate reality: the preexisting sociocultural and political structures and identities are not shed, rather actively reproduced and rigorously, often consciously, reconfigured within the transnational diasporic spaces. As such, the research reveals that Nepali diasporic associations in Florida play a vital role in perpetuating and reshaping social inequalities and contested national identities, significantly impacting transnational dynamics. The work contends that caste hierarchies persist in structuring associational life, influencing participation and resource distribution. Concurrently, colorism …

Tribal Courts Are Courts Of General Jurisdiction, Grant Christensen Jun 2025

Tribal Courts Are Courts Of General Jurisdiction, Grant Christensen

Florida Law Review

Twenty years ago, the Supreme Court misread its precedents and took a shortcut to do what was “simpler” instead of what was right. It determined, without examining the origins of tribal judicial power, that tribal courts are not courts of general jurisdiction. Writing for the majority in Nevada v. Hicks, Justice Antonin Scalia concluded that in order to find that tribal courts were able to interpret federal law, the Court would have to “attribute to tribal courts jurisdiction that is not apparent.” But power often exists even if it is not apparent at first glance. Unwilling to do even …

Feed It To The Ocean: The Federal Approach To Decommissioning In Alaska Native Climate Adaptation Projects, Sophia Tidler

Alaska Law Review

This Note calls on the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) to issue guidance clarifying that concurrent decommissioning is an in-scope “connected action” under the National Environmental Policy Act for relocation, managed retreat, and protect-in-place projects aimed at replacing infrastructure in environmentally threatened Alaska Native communities. In 2018, the Denali Commission completed the Final Environmental Impact Statement for Alaska’s first community-driven village relocation of the millennium, facilitating construction of essential infrastructure at Mertarvik, the relocation site for the village of Newtok. However, the Denali Commission chose to exclude a full-scale decommissioning plan for Newtok’s existing infrastructure. Today, more than seventy-three Alaska …

Integrative Taxonomy Confirms The Synonymy Of Three Springsnail Species (Hydrobiidae: Pyrgulopsis), Kathryn E. Perez, Megan Solis, Michelle Flores, Chanté Lundskog

School of Integrative Biological & Chemical Sciences Faculty Publications

The small, spring-dwelling snails, Pyrgulopsis Call & Pilsbry, 1886, form a diverse radiation in Western North America. In this study, we examine the validity of three species of Pyrgulopsis, Pyrgulopsis pilsbryana (Baily & Baily, 1952), P. nonaria Hershler, 1998, and P. transversa Hershler, 1998. These three species of Pyrgulopsis are found primarily in Utah, with ranges extending into Idaho, Wyoming, and Nevada. They were originally diagnosed primarily on the number and position of penial glands, but subsequent examination with mitochondrial DNA data suggested they should be synonymized. Here, we incorporate additional mitochondrial and nuclear DNA data, increased geographic sampling, …

Viewing The Globe From A Mountain Top: Between The Perspectives Of Al-Bīrūnī, Schmitt And Sloterdijk, John T. Giordano Jun 2025

Viewing The Globe From A Mountain Top: Between The Perspectives Of Al-Bīrūnī, Schmitt And Sloterdijk, John T. Giordano

Budhi: A Journal of Ideas and Culture

In this article, I wish to examine the manner we imagine our place in the cosmos by contrasting it with earlier techniques for mapping and measuring the globe. I will pay particular attention to the work of Abū Rayḥān Al-Bīrūnī and demonstrate that the assumptions which allowed for his advances in the measurement of the globe were based upon a certain understanding of the relationship of place within the sacred order of the cosmos and the role of reason in this connection. This understanding carries over to his anthropological works which consider the history of other religions and cultures. It …

Planches, Cases, Bulles Entre Les Langues : Représentations Des Langues Dans Le Roman Graphique « Le Piano Oriental » De Zeina Abirached, Chiara Denti

Al-Kīmiyā

Published in France by Casterman in 2015, Le piano oriental is the fifth graphic novel by French Lebanese comic artist Zeina Abirached. Like her previous graphic works, this book is part of the autobiographical comics movement, although it takes a slightly different perspective. The author is no longer dealing with the facts of collective history, recounting the Beirut of her childhood ravaged by civil war, but she explores her linguistic biography, reflecting on her bilingualism and her dual heritage. Combining images and words, Le piano oriental retraces the author’s linguistic journey and the experience of a mother tongue that is …

S’Approprier L’Objet De Son Transfert Ou Quand Un Poète Traduit Un Poète : Baudelaire Par Giorgio Caproni, Gianluca Leoncini Jun 2025

S’Approprier L’Objet De Son Transfert Ou Quand Un Poète Traduit Un Poète : Baudelaire Par Giorgio Caproni, Gianluca Leoncini

Al-Kīmiyā

Without being iconoclastic, Giorgio Caproni, a poet who translates the reverse journey of another poet, appropriates the object of his transfer as much as he reports on it. In the rewriting of this pre-set universe recalling elsewhere outside history, the individual who wishes to appease his troubles may seek to forget, through the use of the almost hypnotic power of the reflections of meridian lights, marine sounds and delectable smells, that Evil is everywhere and that the human being participates in its cruelty and absurdity.

Hierarchy Viz: A Visual Analytics Framework For Visualizing Hierarchical Data Using Machine Learning, Vinay Kumar Uppalapati Jun 2025

Hierarchy Viz: A Visual Analytics Framework For Visualizing Hierarchical Data Using Machine Learning, Vinay Kumar Uppalapati

Theses and Dissertations

Automated visualization systems aim to generate visualizations directly from raw data with minimal user inputs. However, while existing systems focus on data visualizations mainly using line charts and scatter plots to explore the data patterns, they struggle with hierarchical data representation where data relationship is essential. Hierarchical visualization, crucial for understanding multi-level relationships, typically requires users to manually define hierarchies and have expertise in visualization tools to create meaningful representations. This makes the process complex, time-consuming, and reliant on domain knowledge. To address this, we propose HierarchyViz, an automated system that detects multiple hierarchies in raw datasets and generates intuitive …

Working Paper No. 100, Social Realism And Socialist Realism, Amanda F. Worman Jun 2025

Working Paper No. 100, Social Realism And Socialist Realism, Amanda F. Worman

Working Papers in Economics

This inquiry sees to establish that as a genre, “social realism” reflected values of the American system of market capitalism out of which this art style emerged. During the same timeframe, what has been categorized as “socialist realism” reflected values of the Soviet system out of which this art style also arose. The “Great Depression” that dogged the American economy and society through the 1930s, as well as the “Iron Fist” rule characteristic of Joseph Stalin’s heavy industrialization drive for Soviet Russia, appears to have promoted and shaped these two distinct but similar art styles under consideration, as responses to …

Diversity Matters In Public Education: A Phenomenological Study, Monique A. Jackson Jun 2025

Diversity Matters In Public Education: A Phenomenological Study, Monique A. Jackson

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this transcendental, phenomenological study was to describe the lived experiences of diverse public-school educators who are overlooked for promotion and educational advancement opportunities within public school systems in the State of Texas. The theories guiding this study were Marilyn Brewer's optimal distinctiveness theory, which advocates how every individual needs to belong and feel uniquely accepted, and James House's social support theory, which purports the importance of groupthink--a concept that leans toward togetherness. The central research question, What are the lived experiences of diverse, public-school educators who are overlooked for promotion and educational advancement opportunities within public school …

“They Don’T Want Us Anywhere”: The Impact Of Anti-Homelessness Laws On Unsheltered Residents Of Fort Worth, Texas, Brie Diamond

Qualitative Criminology (QC)

"Access to public space is not afforded equally amongst the population. Often, the people who must spend most of their time in these spaces, people experiencing homelessness, are barred by local or state law from being there. Fort Worth, Texas, implemented a camping ban in 2019 that prohibits camping on public or private property. This article explores the impact of this ban on unsheltered people experiencing homelessness using semi-structured interviews with 18 people residing in encampments across the city. The findings document the tangible and existential losses endured by this group and the impact on the perception of their place …

So Who Gets To Be Modern? Jadidism And Reform In Late Nineteenth And Early Twentieth Century Russia, Grant Douglas Linville Jun 2025

So Who Gets To Be Modern? Jadidism And Reform In Late Nineteenth And Early Twentieth Century Russia, Grant Douglas Linville

University Honors Theses

Jadidism was a sociocultural reformist project from the 1880s to 1920s developed by Muslim intellectuals in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. The Jadidist movement derives its name from the "new-method" (usul-al Jadid) schools that spread Jadid pedagogy, which revolved around the inclusion of secular topics and Western knowledge as well as instruction in local, Tatar, and Russian languages, in addition to the already present religious studies accompanied by Arabic and Persian taught in the Islamic educational institutions the maktab and madrasa (primary and higher education respectively). Over time Jadidism grew to encompass a host of societal …

Characteristics, Behaviour And Fluxes Of Microplastics In The Coastal Boundary Zones Of The Persian Gulf And Oman Sea, Sajjad Abbasi, Andrew Turner Jun 2025

Characteristics, Behaviour And Fluxes Of Microplastics In The Coastal Boundary Zones Of The Persian Gulf And Oman Sea, Sajjad Abbasi, Andrew Turner

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Relatively little is known about microplastics (MPs) in the atmosphere of the coastal zone, including their interaction with the sea surface. In this study, MPs have been determined and characterised in the lower atmosphere, advecting air, depositing dusts, coastal sediments and seawater of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea using a variety of sampling techniques (including filtration of water and pumped air and deployment of a vertical array of sediment traps). MPs were detected in all samples and were dominated by fibres that were, in most cases, small (<100 μm) and black. MP numbers captured in advecting air showed no trends with height or differences between locations or deployments over land and sea, but a clear increase was observed during strong winds. MPs in atmospheric suspension and in deposited dusts, sediments and seawater were also heterogeneously distributed. Environmental or transport pathway fractionation was evident according to morphology and particle size (% fibres and % small fibres) and to polymer density. Regarding the latter, relatively low-density polymers (e.g., polyethylene, polypropylene) were more abundant in the atmosphere, advecting air and seawater, whereas higher density polymers (e.g., regenerated cellulosics, polyethylene terephthalate) were more abundant in settling dusts and sediments. Fluxes, based on particle counts and converted MP m−2 h−1, revealed advection (up to ∼ 1.2 × …

The Euro-Maghreb Political Approach To Illegal Migration 1990-2010, Sondos A. Taha

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

This study aims to monitor the political actions undertaken by European and Maghreb countries in combating the phenomenon of illegal immigration from 1990 to 2010. This leads us to a problematic question regarding the seriousness and effectiveness of Euro-Maghreb political cooperation in addressing this phenomenon. In this study, we adopted a methodology dictated by the nature of the topic, primarily the historical method, by tracing the development of migration trends within the European Union. This approach helps us understand the nature of European migration policies by following their evolution from the Cold War era to the most recent policies implemented …

Where's The Dim Sum? Art, Oral History, And The Chinese American Diaspora In Portland, Or, Rayli Dornan

University Honors Theses

This thesis examines the history, transformation, and contemporary significance of Portland's Chinatown through an oral history framework, emphasizing the voices of Chinese American artists. Beginning with a comprehensive historical overview from the mid-nineteenth-century Gold Rush migrations and railroad labor to twentieth-century exclusion, dispossession under urban renewal, and the late-twentieth-century dispersal into suburbs, the thesis traces how structural racism and policy shaped both the physical landscape and communal life of Oregon's Chinese diaspora. Through in-depth interviews with local artists, this research aims to illuminate how individual experiences of identity, belonging, and creative expression navigate the tensions between heritage and adaptation.

Phishing and 51% attacks can circumvent blockchain security, highlighting the need for thorough user education and awareness. Additionally, blockchains based on …

Cunning Commies, Dumb Democrats, And Exiled Germans: A Holistic Postmortem Of The 1948 Czechoslovak Coup D'État, Douglas Joys Jun 2025

Cunning Commies, Dumb Democrats, And Exiled Germans: A Holistic Postmortem Of The 1948 Czechoslovak Coup D'État, Douglas Joys

Undergraduate Theses, Capstones, and Recitals

The role played by the post-WWII expulsion of ethnic Germans from Czechoslovakia in catalyzing the 1948 Czechoslovak coup d'état has been underexplored in favor of the traditional narrative of an East-West clash between Czechoslovak democratic and communist parties backed by the United States and Soviet Union, respectively. Scholarship on the expulsion and the coup has on occasion brought up connections between the two events, albeit briefly and only as a small part of larger examinations of one of the two. The Eastern and Western forces at play in Czechoslovakia were undoubtedly key factors in the coup’s outcome: the end of …
