University Living Labs For Sustainability: Governance, Pedagogy, And Global North-South Patterns, Skilty C. Labastilla Dec 2025

University Living Labs For Sustainability: Governance, Pedagogy, And Global North-South Patterns, Skilty C. Labastilla

Journal of Management for Global Sustainability

This scoping review examines how 72 higher education institutions (HEIs) operationalize sustainability through living labs (LLs), synthesizing evidence from 89 studies published between 2010 and 2025. Using Arksey and O’Malley’s (2005) framework, the review maps how LLs coordinate governance, pedagogy, operational experimentation, and stakeholder engagement, comparing 63 Global North (GN) and 26 Global South (GS) cases. GN LLs feature formalized governance and resource-intensive infrastructures linking curriculum, operations, and data-driven experimentation. GS LLs operate under resource constraints but exhibit strong community embedding, participatory co-production, and socio-ecological responsiveness. Institutionalization depends on hybrid configurations where bottom-up experimentation aligns with top-down authority. Observed governance, …

Integration Of Historic Building Information Modeling (Hbim) And 3d Gis For Recording And Managing Cultural Heritage Sites, Conor Dore Dr, Maurice Murphy Dr

Journal of Academic Research and Innovation

This paper outlines a two stage approach for digitally recording cultural heritage sites. This approach involves a 3D modeling stage and the integration of the 3D model into a 3D GIS for further management and analysis. The modeling stage is carried out using a new concept; Historic Building Information Modeling (HBIM) which has been developed at the Dublin Institute of Technology [12]. Historic Building Information Modeling is a system for modeling historic structures from laser scan and photogrammetric data using Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. The HBIM process involves a reverse engineering solution whereby parametric objects representing architectural elements are …

Best Integrated Writing

Oracles of the dead, or nekuomanteia as they were often called in Ancient Greek, have come to be a more frequently discussed element of Classical Antiquity in recent years, and some scholars might go as far as to argue that they were a legitimate part of Greek and Roman society, with some believing that famous consultations of these oracles from authors such as Plutarch and Herodotus are but mythologized legends that recall real types of consultations from Antiquity. However, upon closer examination of the primary sources and archaeological evidence, one begins to doubt whether the modern interpretation of the ancient …

Beheld To Behold: A Rhetorical Theology Of Otherness In Acts, Hannah E. Gross Dec 2025

Beheld To Behold: A Rhetorical Theology Of Otherness In Acts, Hannah E. Gross

Masters Theses

The phenomena of otherness foundationally grounds this work. A micro-concept of Martin Buber’s I and Thou Theory, otherness is central to this study particularly as it is rhetorically situated in the work of Acts. The research draws from ideological criticism to produce a rhetorical theology. Findings uncover two primary relational dynamics of otherness: (1) God to the believer to the unbeliever and (2) God to the believer to the believer. These constructions of dialogical engagement in Acts are donned witness and withness, offering keen insight on a rhetorical theology of otherness.

Toward Climate Resilient Cities: Endorsing Green Justice Amid Unequal Distribution And Disparities In Fast-Sprawling Urban Nagpur, Prajakta Pimpalshende, Manu Thomas, Jayshree Shukla, Shruti Lahoti, Shalini Dhyani

Cities and the Environment (CATE)

Population expansion and accelerated land development frequently overlook the inclusion of green infrastructure, leading to disparities in Urban Green Space (UGS) distribution. In rapidly urbanizing cities of the Global South, ensuring socio-ecological connectivity is vital for promoting sustainable, climate-resilient, multifunctional landscapes. This study uses Nagpur, a rapidly expanding Indian city, as a case study to investigate spatial inequities in UGS access through the lens of green justice. We employed the Demand Supply Gap assessment (World Health Organization and Urban and Regional Development Plans Formulation and Implementation, Government of India guidelines), the 3-30-300 green space rule as a guiding principle to …

Intradistrict Inequality: Examining Educational Opportunity In Richmond Elementary Schools, Tara Sheehan Dec 2025

Intradistrict Inequality: Examining Educational Opportunity In Richmond Elementary Schools, Tara Sheehan

Honors Theses

Educational inequality in the U.S. is often discussed across district lines, but differences between schools within the same district are just as significant. This paper examines intradistrict disparities in Richmond Public Schools (RPS) by comparing William Fox Elementary and Broad Rock Elementary. Although both schools operate under the same district, they serve very different student populations and produce markedly different outcomes. William Fox serves mostly White and economically advantaged students, with higher test scores, lower absenteeism, fewer behavioral incidents, and access to a wide range of enrichment programs. Broad Rock, on the other hand, serves predominantly Hispanic and Black students, …

Understanding Medication Adherence Among American Indian/Alaska Native People With Type 2 Diabetes Within A Commercial Health System, Leandra Bitterfeld Dec 2025

Understanding Medication Adherence Among American Indian/Alaska Native People With Type 2 Diabetes Within A Commercial Health System, Leandra Bitterfeld

Dissertations

American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) adults experience higher rates of type 2 diabetes and worse glycemic control than non-Hispanic White Americans. Despite the importance of medication adherence for T2DM management, there is only one study in the last 15 years examining the relationship between medication adherence and A1C among AI/ANs. Furthermore, T2DM research among AI/ANs has largely been conducted within Indian Health Service and Tribal healthcare systems, though most AI/ANs live outside of reservations, meaning many use commercial health systems. The purpose of this dissertation is twofold. We sought to first understand the experience of AI/AN people accessing T2DM in a …

This Dissertation-in-Praxis (DiP) addresses these systemic inequities by developing a replicable, biblically grounded framework designed to strengthen the financial viability, educational quality, and missional integrity of rural Christian schools. Calvary Chapel Heritage Center (CCHC) in Salmon, Idaho, serves as the central case study. Utilizing a mixed-methods action research approach, the study incorporates qualitative interviews with church and …

Procedure As Power: The Rule Of Arcadius In Constantinople, 395–408, Matthew Lloyd Talmage Dec 2025

Procedure As Power: The Rule Of Arcadius In Constantinople, 395–408, Matthew Lloyd Talmage

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This dissertation reinterprets the reign of the Eastern Roman emperor Arcadius (395-408 CE), challenging the entrenched view of a passive figurehead by arguing that he governed through indirect, procedure-driven rule. It analyzes how Arcadius shaped outcomes via law, office rotation, ecclesiastical appointments, and controlled visibility while shifting political risk to ministers and bishops through strategic inaction. Focusing on Constantinople and the Eastern court between the deaths of Theodosius I (395) and Arcadius (408), the study employs process-tracing with falsifiable indicators: legal addressee patterns as proxies for routing nodes, rotation cadence in senior posts as a balancing and audit tool, and …

Story Exchange Walls: Bridging Community And Carceral Spaces Through Writing, Tobi Jacobi, Braden Bomgaars Dec 2025

Story Exchange Walls: Bridging Community And Carceral Spaces Through Writing, Tobi Jacobi, Braden Bomgaars

Feminist Pedagogy

The “story exchange wall” activity that follows expands the scope and accessibility of stories that can contribute to building infrastructures grounded in abolition-minded practices of care and relationality. Story exchange walls are built upon the premise that: a) not all community voices are heard; b) there is value in pursuing understanding across discourse communities; and c) writing is an engaging method for encouraging dialogue on social issues and dismantling misconceptions about system-impacted people and their community commitments and contributions. Through a series of written and displayed dialogues, mobile story exchange walls offer a dynamic tool for engaging social issues and …

Star Wars: Andor – An Abolitionist Study Guide, Marcelo Garzo Montalvo, Isaac Ginsberg Miller

Feminist Pedagogy

This study guide provides a set of activities for teaching abolition through Season 1 of the speculative fiction TV series Star Wars: Andor (2022). Through the practice of critical literacy (viewing, reading, and analysis), we offer various ideas on how to engage Andor as a relevant pedagogical tool for studying and teaching abolitionist movement histories and methodologies. By guiding students through a critical analysis of this widely-circulated, mainstream cultural text, we seek to activate an abolitionist pedagogical lens that can be applied across various genres and media – making tangible connections between popular culture and political struggles writ large. These …

Reimagining Carceral Spaces – A Guerilla Tour Of Hm Prison Pentridge., Bree Carlton, Liam Gillespie

Feminist Pedagogy

In this paper, we reflect on our experience of running a Guerilla Walking Tour of the now decommissioned and repurposed HM Prison Pentridge. This original teaching activity, conducted with Master of Criminology students, was grounded in traditions of critical and radical pedagogy, which stem from the broad recognition that education can never be neutral or value free, but rather, that it is a political process through which students can become actively engaged in the worlds they are learning about so that they can critique and transform them. To this end, our walking tour was designed to encourage students to examine …
