Grow Your Own Teacher Programs: A Qualitative Study Of Best Practices To Address The Teacher Shortage, Jack August Harris
Grow Your Own Teacher Programs: A Qualitative Study Of Best Practices To Address The Teacher Shortage, Jack August Harris
Dissertations
Teacher shortages have motivated school districts and state educational agencies to focus on targeted teacher recruitment strategies as a means to mitigate the crisis (Sutcher, Darling-Hammond, & Carver-Thomas, 2016). One specific strategy, Grow Your Own Teacher programs, involves recruiting and developing future teachers from within the local community (MODESE, 2019). While a significant body of research exists about this topic, many districts and state organizations are left to determine what specific program practices best meet their needs. This qualitative study included an analysis of the perceptions of participants and key personnel of Grow Your Own Teacher programs to determine best …

The Eleventh Auer: The Effect Of Kisor V. Wilkie On Rulemaking And Adjudication At The United States Patent And Trademark Office, Andrew Schneider, Jonathan Stroud
Chicago-Kent Journal of Intellectual Property
Courts have long deferred to an agency’s interpretation of an ambiguous rule or statute, in light of the agency’s relevant technical expertise. But some judges prefer that Article III courts review everything; and deferring often involves relying on an agency’s interpretation of a genuinely ambiguous statute—the oft-discussed Chevron deference doctrine. This Article analyzes the more nuanced Auer deference, where a court defers to an agency’s later interpretation of its own ambiguous rule or regulation. Recently, the Supreme Court took and decided Kisor v. Wilkie, which dramatically modified the Auer doctrine. While Kisor appealed a claim for veteran’s benefits that implicated …

The high people concentration of Egypt in area not exceeds by 6% from the area of Egypt has led to many, environmental, economic, and social problems. Therefore, establishment of sustainable urban development in Egyptian desert out of the crowded valley seems obligation or what we can call no choice. Due to the harsh nature of desert, these sustainable urban developments need big amount of energy to operate it. Egypt as one of the developing countries faces many crisis of energy production which eliminate establishment of these sustainable urban development. In the recent years, the concept of zero energy buildings has …

The Impact Of Entrepreneurship On Economic Performance In Indonesia, Yohanes Kadarusman
The Impact Of Entrepreneurship On Economic Performance In Indonesia, Yohanes Kadarusman
Economics and Finance in Indonesia
Entrepreneurship is claimed to have a positive and significant effect on economic growth in developed countries, but less so in developing countries. Using the growth model, this study examines the impact of entrepreneurship on economic performance in Indonesia as indicated by economic growth and income per-capita from 1985 to 2017. The estimation result confirms the non-significant effect of the growth of entrepreneurial ventures on the growth of GDP per-capita. However, the accumulation of the ventures has a positive and significant effect on the level of GDP per capita. The different typology of entrepreneurial ventures in Indonesia provides some insight to …

Coal Geology & Exploration
In area with high groundwater level in the east of China, long-time underground coal mining results in a large subsidence water area on the surface. The risk of water environment pollution in subsidence waters is increasing gradually with the influence of human activities. According to Weber-Fisher law, this paper took Panji waterlogged area of Huainan as the research object, selected the water quality evaluation indexes closely related to the water environment of the waterlogged area, analyzed the water environmental conditions of the waterlogged area in different periods, and quantitatively reflected the time and the area of the water environment quality …

The paper explores the relationship between People and the architectural spaces they occupy; understanding the occupants'' impressions while meeting their surrounding environment. In the first place, the relation between human senses and architecture was studied, as the senses are the tools that relate people to the outer environment. The study was then improved through studying the human personality, feelings and people''s impression not to be restricted only on sensations. The study then focuses on the awareness of architectural space using the philosophical field of Phenomenology. Any object, event or experience which a person can see, hear, touch, smell, taste, feel …

Long Lived Second Mode Internal Solitary Waves In The Andaman Sea, J.M. Magalhaes, J.C.B. Da Silva, Maarten C. Buijsman

Internal waves are density oscillations propagating along the ocean’s inner stratification, which are now acknowledged as a key constituent of the ocean’s dynamics. They usually result from barotropic tides, which flow over bottom topography, causing density oscillations to propagate along the pycnocline with a tidal frequency (i.e. internal tides). These large-scale waves propagate away from their forcing bathymetry and frequently disintegrate into nonlinear short-scale (higher-frequency) internal wave packets. Typically, short-scale internal wave observations in the ocean are associated with vertical structures (in the water column) of the lowest fundamental mode. Higher vertical modes have recently been documented as well, but …

Development Of A Benthic Foraminifera Based Marine Biotic Index (Foram-Ambi) For The Gulf Of Mexico: A Decision Support Tool, Bryan O'Malley
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The Gulf of Mexico (GoM) is an economically important region (e.g. oil and gas, fisheries) and with the expansion of oil drilling, harmful algal bloom events, oil blowouts, dead zones, anthropogenic eutrophication and contaminant loading, it is important that the ecological quality statuses (EcoQS) of different localities in the Gulf are closely monitored. The EcoQS, as implemented by the European Water Framework Directive, is an effective tool for monitoring ecological health and developing reference conditions. One such index used to define EcoQS is the AZTI Marine Biotic Index (AMBI), which pairs species abundance with environmental stressors. Benthic foraminifera are ideal …
The Beast And The Revival Of Rome: Mussolini And Rome In The Premillennial Imagination, Jon Stamm
The Beast And The Revival Of Rome: Mussolini And Rome In The Premillennial Imagination, Jon Stamm
Theses and Dissertations
Premillennial dispensationalism became immensely influential among American Protestants who saw themselves as defenders of orthodoxy. As theological conflict heated up in the early 20th century, dispensationalism’s unique eschatology became one of the characteristic features of the various strands of “fundamentalists” who fought against modernism and the perceived compromises of mainline Protestantism. Their embrace of the dispensationalist view of history and Biblical prophecy had a significant effect on how they interpreted world events and how they lived out their faith. These fundamentalists established patterns of interpretation that in the second half of the 20th century would fuel the emergence of a …

How The Law Fails Tenants (And Not Just During A Pandemic), Sarah Schindler, Kellen Zale
Sturm College of Law: Faculty Scholarship
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, all levels of government are considering how to protect public health by keeping people in their homes, even if they can no longer afford their monthly mortgage or rent payments. The protections that have emerged thus far have been far more protective of homeowners than renters. This essay exposes how the disparity in legal protections for these two groups is not unique to this pandemic. Rather, the crisis has merely uncovered longstanding, deep-rooted patterns within legal doctrines, governmental programs, and public policies that bestow favorable treatment upon homeowners at the expense of renters. …

Perceptions Of Stakeholders About The Role Of Health System In Suicide Prevention In Ghizer, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, Anila Anjum, Tazeen S. Ali, Nousheen Pradhan, Murad M. Khan Dr., Rozina Karmaliani Professor
Community Health Sciences
Background: Suicide is a serious global public health problem, with more than 800,000 people dying by suicide worldwide every year. 79% of suicides happen in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), where lack of national suicide prevention programs coupled with inadequate MH facilities for early identification and treatment of mental disorders add to seriousness of the problems. Although there is paucity of research, studies suggest that the rate of suicide in district Ghizer, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), in northern Pakistan may be higher compared to rest of the country.
Methods: This study aimed to explore the perceptions of stakeholders about the role of …

The need for improvement of societal disaster resilience and response efforts was evident after the destruction caused by the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season. We present a novel conceptual framework for improving disaster resilience through the combination of serious games, geographic information systems (GIS), spatial thinking, and disaster resilience. Our framework is implemented via Project Lily Pad, a serious geogame based on our conceptual framework, serious game case studies, interviews and real-life experiences from 2017 Hurricane Harvey survivors in Dickinson, TX, and an immersive hurricane-induced flooding scenario. The game teaches a four-fold set of skills relevant to spatial thinking and disaster …
