Analysis Of Construction Trends On California’S Central Coast, Erik G. Asplund
Analysis Of Construction Trends On California’S Central Coast, Erik G. Asplund
Construction Management
The California Central Coast experiences sustained housing demand and infrastructure pressure, yet it lacks the visible concentration of construction firms found in larger markets. This study examines why construction activity in the region appears limited despite a strong demand. Using a qualitative, interview-based approach, four construction companies who operate across Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties were interviewed to identify recurring themes related to labor, environmental regulation, housing feasibility, technology adoption, and future outlooks. The study concludes that structural constraints rather than lack of opportunity limit the scalability of construction on the Central Coast.

Factors Impacting Wildland-Urban Interface (Wui) Fires: A Systematic Literature Review, Albert Jimenez
Construction Management
Fires in the wildland-urban interface (WUI) pose a significant danger to communities. The WUI refers to the space where development meets vegetation. Significant research has been conducted into wildfire and WUI vulnerability across the world to help combat vulnerability. These include the identification of factors of vulnerability to create indices that quantify vulnerability, and address scope gaps and inconsistencies within literature. However, existing research seems to be fragmented in finding the WUI vulnerability factors and often it focuses on wildfires and not WUI fires. The objective of this systematic literature review is to synthesize wildfire vulnerability factors identified in the …
Immigration-Related Workforce Instability And Its Impact On Residential Construction Operations In California, Ana Castro
Construction Management
Labor availability has become a major challenge for California’s residential construction industry, especially as immigration policies change and its workforce becomes more unstable. Most past research looks at overall labor statistics and industry trends, but not at how these issues affect construction projects day to day. This qualitative case study looks at how immigration policy and labor conditions affect the daily operations of a residential construction company in California. The research is based on six semi-structured interviews conducted with five superintendents and one executive leader. The results show that immigration-related labor challenges differ by location within California. Participants commonly described …

The Effects Of Public Policy Territorialization On Human Development In Morocco: A Case Study Of The Indh In The Al Haouz Province, M’Hamed Ennosse, Zakaria Kadiri, Aziz Mechouat
Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)
This research analyzes the impact of the territorialization of public policies in Morocco, focusing on INDH (National Initiative for Human Development) projects within the Al Haouz province. Utilizing a qualitative approach (interviews and field observations), the study evaluates the effectiveness of this mechanism in reducing local disparities. While the results indicate improved access to basic services, they also reveal major flaws: the capture of resources by local elites, the exclusion of vulnerable populations, and a lack of sustainability. The analysis highlights the ambivalent nature of this territorialization which, due to a lack of genuine participatory governance, struggles to reduce deep-seated …

Archives And Children's Knowledge, Elliott Kuecker, Ashley Rockenbach
Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies
This article argues for the importance of collecting works created by children—not just about and not just for—in formal archival collections. Framed through the ideas of legitimate knowledge and epistemic injustice, this piece combines notions important to children’s rights activists and childhood studies scholars with the role archives can play in preserving children’s knowledge through child-created materials. The authors describe how researchers struggle to find work created by children within archives, impacting the ability to create child-centered research that centers children’s views of the world as prominently as adult views of the world. Some collections that do include child-created materials …

Dolls of Our World is a geography game from around the 1950s in SCRC’s Plastics Artifacts Collection in which the player matches a doll to their flag based off outfit and short description. I wanted to know why Africa was not included, and overall, how geography games and teaching diversity have changed. I read several papers, including on plastic-color technology and the history of Black dolls. According to the categorization of “Gamification & Geography Education: A Survey & Typology of Games,” Dolls of Our World uses a storytelling narrative to teach, seen with the clothes and incorporation of people (however …

The Culture Cure: Behavioral Supervision And The Regulation Of Financial Institutions, David B. Lourie
The Culture Cure: Behavioral Supervision And The Regulation Of Financial Institutions, David B. Lourie
Mercer Law Review
This Article advances a normative claim: U.S. financial regulators must move beyond primarily adversarial, enforcement-driven models and adopt behavioral supervisory tools—particularly elements of culture assessments—to proactively help guide ethical firm conduct and mitigate systemic risk. Importantly, the proposal here is incremental and resource-efficient. Many recommendations place the onus on firms to assess and demonstrate their culture, while regulators set expectations, review outputs, and selectively verify findings. The framework proceeds in progressive stages—beginning with voluntary, partnership-based initiatives, moving toward light-touch integration within existing examinations, and scaling only where persistent governance weaknesses or systemic risks warrant closer attention. This tiered approach reflects …

The Northeast Snow Survey (NESS) Feasibility Study was launched to address a critical gap in snowpack and weather monitoring across the northeastern United States. Unlike the western U.S., which benefits from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Snow Telemetry (SNOTEL) network, the Northeast lacks a coordinated, automated, real-time snow monitoring system—particularly at higher elevations where snowpack dynamics most strongly influence flooding, water supply, ecosystems, outdoor recreation, and working lands.
Funded through the FY2023 federal omnibus bill, the NESS Feasibility Study includes two phases: Phase 1–the content of this report–focused on interest holder engagement and …

This introduction to the special issue ‘Rethinking Circulation in
Italian Film and Media’ reconsiders how Italian audiovisual culture
moves across borders – industrially, geographically, linguistically,
and digitally. By focusing on the complex dynamics of circulation,
the essays gathered here trace the evolving connections between
production and distribution, exploring how contemporary modes
of localization, translation, and platform curation shape the
visibility and cultural capital of Italian cinema in global contexts.
From streaming giants such as Netflix to curated services like

Assessing Tree Species Diversity In Forests Using Combined Remote Sensing Data, Tufan Demi̇rel
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Tree species diversity (TSD) is a critical biological variable for ecosystem functioning and sustainable forest management. This study aimed to model TSD in forest ecosystems using spectral and texture metrics extracted from Sentinel-2, WorldView-3,and PlanetScope satellite imagery, and structural metrics derived from LiDAR data. Tree species data collected through field surveyswere used to calculate Shannon, Simpson, and species richness biodiversity indices. These biodiversity indicators were then related toexplanatory variables derived from remote sensing (RS) metrics. The Boruta algorithm was applied for variable selection and randomforest regression analysis was used for modeling. The results show that combining LiDAR and satellite data is …

Amazon rainforests face intensifying water stress due to increases in vapour pressure deficit and changing hydrological regimes. Embolism resistance (Ψ50) is a critical metric of tree survival under drought conditions, it is defined as a plant’s capacity to resist disruption of xylem water flow due to air bubble formation from water stress. However, measurements of Ψ50 are only available for a limited number of Amazon locations and species. Conversely, data on forest taxonomic composition are abundant across Amazonia, and if Ψ50 is conserved phylogenetically, these data could provide a way to scale-up drought resistance patterns. Here …

Structural and social determinants of health are environmental conditions that affect individuals' health and functioning across the life course. These determinants are salient factors at the apex of individual psychology, community variables, and larger sociological factors, exerting prominent effects on individuals' wellbeing. The National Institute on Aging seeks to understand their influence on aging and Alzheimer's disease. We propose that the benefits of doing so may reach beyond knowledge of disease mechanisms - it may also improve clinical outcomes. We describe efforts introducing structural and social determinants of health data into the national network of Alzheimer's disease research centers. We …
