Projections Of Drought Indices Under Climate Change In The Upper Chao Phraya River Basin, Pech Ponleu
Projections Of Drought Indices Under Climate Change In The Upper Chao Phraya River Basin, Pech Ponleu
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Climate change significantly impacts water resource management by intensifying the variability and frequency of extreme events like droughts. This study aims to understand drought processes and assess climate change impacts on drought in the Upper Chao Phraya River basin. The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and Standardized Streamflow Index (SSI) of 3-, 6- and 12-month accumulation periods were estimated for historical from 1985 to 2014, near future (NF) from 2025 to 2054 and far future (FF) from 2070 to 2099 periods. Using GCMs from CMIP6 (MPI-ESM1-2-L, IPSL-CM6A-LR, and GFDL-CM4), bias-corrected via quantile mapping, we found good agreement with observed rainfall data. …
A Channel And Spatial Attention Feature Extraction Method For Remote Sensing Image Super-Resolution Using Vision Transformer, Naveed Sultan
A Channel And Spatial Attention Feature Extraction Method For Remote Sensing Image Super-Resolution Using Vision Transformer, Naveed Sultan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In recent years, convolution neural networks have achieved a remarkable advancement in remote sensing image super-resolution due to the complexity and variability of textures and structure. Current deep learning-based super-resolution models concentrate less on high-frequency features, which leads to suboptimal performance in capturing contours, texture, and spatial information. State-of-the-art deep learning methods now focus on feature extraction of remote sensing images using attention mechanisms. However, these methods are still incapable of effectively identifying and utilizing key content attention. The existing transformer models do not focus on capturing the spatial information in their encoder and decoder parts. To cover these problems, …

Three Essays On Trade Costs And Firm Exports, Sunil Kumar Dash
Three Essays On Trade Costs And Firm Exports, Sunil Kumar Dash
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This thesis consists of three separate and self-contained individual studies on trade costs and firm exports. According to the new “new trade theory” where trading firms are heterogeneous, only a few firms can export, while others cannot. The main tenet of the new “new trade theory” is that differences in export participation among firms can be explained by a combination of (1) fixed (sunk) costs of exporting and (2) heterogeneity in the firm characteristics (in terms of size or costs). The goal of the study is to analyze the behavior of firms in international trade while putting “firm heterogeneity” - …

Selling, General And Administrative Cost Asymmetry In Hypergrowth Private Fintech Firms, Chawanakorn Thienboonlertrat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The study examines the selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) cost asymmetry between hypergrowth and non-hypergrowth stages of private fintech firms in the United Kingdom (U.K.). Results show that hypergrowth firms have significantly lower cost growth elasticity and cost multiplier elasticity, indicating asymmetry between non-hypergrowth and hypergrowth stages. The findings illustrate that a cost advantage from additional economies of scale during the hypergrowth stage contributes to cost asymmetry, supporting the idea that they can balance the finding of new opportunities with successfully reaping high-quality revenues while effectively dealing with managerial inefficiency. Equity fundraising from private equity and venture capital investors (PEVCs) …

Host-Microbe Interactions In Non-Native Estuarine Anemones: Biogeography And Temperature, Parker K. Lund
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Non-native species are increasing in prevalence around the world, resulting in negative economic and ecological impacts. However, the broad distributions of non-native species also offer a system for investigating the response of host-associated microbial communities to environmental factors across a range of ecological scales. At the broadest scale, I investigated the geography of microbial communities in the non-native estuarine anemone Diadumene lineata on the west coast of the United States of America. Across latitudes, microbial community composition was very similar and displayed a high percentage of Klebsiella spp. at all sites. However, the communities in California tended to exhibit higher …

Trails in Humboldt County, California that are used for both transportation and recreation have myriad community benefits. However, people’s concerns about feeling safe can affect trail use, design, and development, as well as how trails are valued and perceived by residents. There has been a lack of information in Humboldt County about trail safety perceptions despite it being a factor that repeatedly arises in infrastructure planning and funding conversations. My research was focused on answering the following questions: (1) How do Humboldt County trail users perceive their safety on and near trails? (2) What factors affect these perceptions about safety, …

The Revolution Will Be Memed: Digital Memes As Sites For Hegemonic And Counter-Hegemonic Practices, Kimberly Sisu
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Internet memes have become a part of everyday life as a way to participate in digital and online culture. The study of memes, known as memetics, have analyzed memes in many ways: for their political and social participation, for their multimodal presence, and their influence on online discourse. What has not yet been deeply studied are the ways memes participate in hegemonic and counter-hegemonic practices. This project aims to address this gap by investigating how hegemonic and counter-hegemonic practices show up in memes on feminism, and how those practices uphold or disrupt dominant narratives. Fifteen memes on feminism are analyzed …
Carnivore And Ungulate Occurrence In A Fire-Prone Region, Sara J. Moriarty-Graves
Carnivore And Ungulate Occurrence In A Fire-Prone Region, Sara J. Moriarty-Graves
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Increasing fire size and severity in the western United States causes changes to ecosystems, species’ habitat use, and interspecific interactions. Wide-ranging carnivore and ungulate mammalian species and their interactions may be influenced by an increase in fire activity in northern California. Depending on the fire characteristics, ungulates may benefit from burned habitat due to an increase in forage availability, while carnivore species may be differentially impacted, but ultimately driven by bottom-up processes from a shift in prey availability. I used a three-step approach to estimate the single-species occupancy of four large mammal species: mountain lion (Puma concolor), coyote …
Effect Of In Situ Experimental Heating Of Artificial Mytilus Californianus Beds On Associated Invertebrate Communities In Northern California, Claire C. Windecker
Effect Of In Situ Experimental Heating Of Artificial Mytilus Californianus Beds On Associated Invertebrate Communities In Northern California, Claire C. Windecker
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
With the continued progression of climate change, the role of foundation species as mediators of temperature stress for species living on and within them has become increasingly important. In the intertidal zone, a major foundation species is the California mussel, Mytilus californianus, which can help to limit thermal stress for species that live among aggregations of these mussels. The ability of mussels to limit thermal stress as temperatures increase, however, is still unclear. This study sought to experimentally manipulate surface temperatures of artificial mussel beds in situ to examine the effects that increased surface heating at a single site …

Monitoring Bull Kelp (Nereocystis Leutkeana) Remotely At High Resolutions, Hannah E. Joss
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Bull kelp (Nereocystis leutkeana) is a foundational seaweed in nearshore, marine systems, traditionally supporting economically important fisheries, extracting nutrients in its vicinity, and sequestering carbon and transporting it great distances to subsidize shallow and deep-sea environments. Bull kelp is also a culturally important species for some indigenous peoples along the northeastern Pacific coastline and provides a harvestable product with growing demand. Global trends in kelp distribution show patterns of decline, and the immense loss of northern California bull kelp forests in response to climatic changes have highlighted the need for alternative sources of kelp, both for the product …

No Dogs Allowed (Without A Warrant): Expanding The Fourth Amendment Sanctity Of The Home To Interior Threshold Searches For Tenants In Multiunit Dwellings–United States V. Mathews, Katelin O'Connor
Nebraska Law Review
Ambiguous privacy expectations under the Fourth Amendment have left tenants in multiunit dwellings vulnerable and lacking full constitutional protection from the government’s prying eyes. The storied history of Fourth Amendment interpretation lacks clarity regarding what comprises a permissible search and what limitations are placed on a tenant’s reasonable expectation of privacy, particularly concerning the utilization of dogs to conduct sniff searches. As a result, tenants in multiunit dwellings have traditionally received fewer constitutional protections under the Fourth Amendment compared to those who live in single-family, stand-alone homes.
This Note argues the Eighth Circuit, and further, all circuits, should utilize the …

Johnson V. M’Intosh: 200 Years Of Racism That Runs With The Land, Sheila Simon
Johnson V. M’Intosh: 200 Years Of Racism That Runs With The Land, Sheila Simon
Southern Illinois University Law Journal
The United States Supreme Court case of Johnson v. M’Intosh is a foundation of property law in the United States. It established the United States government as the only possible buyer of land from people native to the continent. As the only possible buyer, the United States government had the power to negotiate a low purchase price. The bargain basement purchases are at the root of title for most of the property in the western half of the country. The case also forms an early and critical component of many property law textbooks. The case can be used to introduce …

Chapter 9’S Constitutional Timebomb Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Uniformity Requirement, Connor Fitch
Southern Illinois University Law Journal
What happens when unresolvable public debt meets an unmovable political stalemate? Without Congressional action, some U.S. municipalities may find out. Currently, a financially insolvent municipality has only one option for bankruptcy protections: Chapter 9. Under federal law, this singular option is only available if the distressed municipality is “expressly” authorized to file a Chapter 9 bankruptcy petition by their respective state. This requirement is not purely the product of Congressional policymaking, but rather the result of the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the U.S. Constitution’s federalism restrictions. The many states have offered their authorizations in a myriad of ways, with differing …
