Problems Of Contemporary Art In The Regions Of Great Altai, Yelena Lichman, Mikhail Popandopulo, Abdrashid Raimbergenov, Abdulkhamit Raimbergenov, Adilgali Sagimbayev
Journal of Urban Culture Research
The relevance of the study is due to the fact that at present the topic of modern art is studied all over the world. The purpose of study is the complex study of factors that influence the activities of young artists in the art sector, their genre preference and the choice of unique forms to convey their own thoughts. To achieve this goal, theoretical and empirical methods such as statistical analysis, synthesis, induction and deduction were mainly used. The result of the research was a full analysis of the works of modern Kazakh, Mongolian, Chinese and Uzbek artists working in …
Institutional Structures Of Penal Inequality, Alexandra Natapoff
Institutional Structures Of Penal Inequality, Alexandra Natapoff
Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology
The U.S. penal apparatus is a bundle of wildly divergent practices. Police in some cities use more force than others. Prosecutors in some jurisdictions file charges automatically while others screen carefully. Public defenders in some counties lack zeal while others provide high quality representation. Offices that share the same name and perform the same basic legal functions—“police,” “prosecutor,” “public defender,” “criminal court”—actually operate according to highly disparate legal, professional, and normative standards. These differences give rise to a stratified criminal process in which a minority of defendants and cases are handled lawfully with attention and care, while a much larger …

A Commitment To Health For All: Reimagining Representation And Participation In The Who Beyond State-Centrism, Yen-Wen Liao
Public Health Theses
Despite its stated commitment to “health for all,” the World Health Organization (WHO) has long been subject to the influence of Member State politics. Specifically, the Organization’s state-based membership model and governance structure have continuously enabled powerful Member States to advance their political interests, leading to the exclusion and marginalization of populations based on the recognition or political status of their representatives. One such example is Taiwan, which has been repeatedly denied membership in the Organization despite the functional independence of its public health authority, leaving over 23 million people neglected amid two major health crises. These forms of exclusion …
Measuring Sexual Citizenship: Health, Rights, And Pleasure In The Wake Of National Level Policy Changes – Considering Namibia, Sophia Emelia Deluca
Measuring Sexual Citizenship: Health, Rights, And Pleasure In The Wake Of National Level Policy Changes – Considering Namibia, Sophia Emelia Deluca
Public Health Theses
While public health evidence and rhetoric is frequently leveraged in scholarship and policy advocacy related to changes in law/policy targeting LGBTQ+ individuals, the existing public health body of evidence surrounding punitive and progressive policy shifts does not fully account for the interconnectedness of the law’s impacts on health, rights, pleasure, and belonging. To address this and pave the way for more representative research, the triangle of sexual citizenship framework links pleasure, rights, health, and sexual citizenship as key, connected components of research in this field. To account for hesitancy and confusion on how to integrate components of the triangle of …

Falling Birthrate And Rising C-Section: Post-Pandemic Evidence From New York, M. Rabbani, Z. Akbari
Falling Birthrate And Rising C-Section: Post-Pandemic Evidence From New York, M. Rabbani, Z. Akbari
Department of Economics Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
Background: The literature documents the effects of the pandemic on birthrate, birthweight, and pregnancy complications. However, the evidence is mixed on the persistence of these effects post-pandemic. Objective: This study examined whether birthrate has decline with the onset of the pandemic, if the effects subsided post-pandemic, and whether there are discrepancies by race and ethnicity, or between vaginal delivery and C-section. Methods: Using the 2012–2022 hospital inpatient discharge data of New York, we implemented fixed-effects regression models to estimate changes in birthrate and delivery method composition. The study was conducted at the Zip-Code level, and eliminated the effect of time-invariant …
Meeting The Mandate: An Applied Research Study On Improving Student Success In Advanced Placement Courses., Heather Bryan
Meeting The Mandate: An Applied Research Study On Improving Student Success In Advanced Placement Courses., Heather Bryan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Educational policy influences the landscape of American public schools. School leaders are tasked with navigating change and addressing unforeseen repercussions stemming from shifts in educational policy. As Mississippi moved to integrate Advanced Placement courses in all high schools, school leaders were tasked to comply and provide systems of support for school and student achievement. These unintended consequences led to an adjustment in expectations and rigor in all classrooms. This applied research study with program evaluation aimed to mitigate this change and support not only Advanced Placement students, but all students, to facilitate student growth and achievement. The program sought to …
Do College Students Delegate Over The Counter Product Choice To Pharmacists? A National Survey Experiment, Joanne Elizabeth Mansalay Canedo
Do College Students Delegate Over The Counter Product Choice To Pharmacists? A National Survey Experiment, Joanne Elizabeth Mansalay Canedo
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Background: College students are known to have more frequent use for over-the-counter (OTC) cold products. Choice overload can lead to an increased burden of responsibility and dissatisfaction with one’s decision. The act of delegating to a pharmacist can prevent OTC product misuse and potential for abuse. The objective was to examine the effect of OTC choice difficulty and pharmacist accessibility on college students’ likelihood to delegate pharmacists for choosing OTC products for the common cold.
Methodology: An experimental within-subjects survey design was utilized on a national convenience sample of undergraduate students aged 18 years and older through Qualtrics market research …

The Time Is Now For Oral Health To Embrace Trauma-Informed Care, Carlos Smith, Ruth Bravo-Anez Med, Ncc, Shelvia English Phd
Journal of the American College of Dentists
Trauma-informed care (TIC) starts with a comprehension of trauma and the recognition of its profound impact on individuals and their well-being.1 Trauma is pervasive and affects almost everyone in one way or another. This dynamic extends to dental care as well: people approach and respond to subsequent encounters with dental professionals based on past experiences, especially if trauma is involved. By adopting a trauma-informed approach, healthcare professionals can cultivate empathy and responsiveness to patients’ needs and enhance their self-efficacy.

“Don’T Panic, It’S Just Ai:” A Qualitative Study On Internal Communication Strategies For Managing Ai-Driven Change”, Edikan Nkanta
Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative study investigated how organizations utilize internal communication strategies to navigate AI-driven change effectively. Through semi-structured interviews with eleven communication professionals and change leaders across various industries, the research identified key communication approaches that facilitate successful AI implementation. Findings revealed three primary strategies: framing AI as a tool that enhances rather than replaces human capabilities, connecting AI initiatives to organizational purpose and business goals, and demonstrating practical use cases through concrete examples. The study also highlighted the importance of establishing clear guidelines for responsible AI use, making initial adoption optional rather than mandatory, and directly addressing job security concerns. …

From Access To Application: Exploring The Depth Of Technology Integration In Rural And Non-Rural Schools, Rebecca M. Laible
From Access To Application: Exploring The Depth Of Technology Integration In Rural And Non-Rural Schools, Rebecca M. Laible
Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative study examines how geographic disparities influence the integration of educational technology in rural Illinois high schools. Through interviews with a technology specialist from a rural district and a curriculum director from a non-rural district in Illinois, the research explores differences in access, instructional use, and systemic support. Guided by Bronfenbrenner’s (1979) Ecological Systems Theory and DiGironimo’s (2011) Three Dimensions of Technology, findings show that while both districts value technology, rural integration tends to focus on access and functionality, while non-rural schools more often embed technology into inquiry-driven instruction. These results highlight the need for context-sensitive approaches that consider …

Exploring Nitrate Reduction In A Saturated Riparian Buffer Through A Three-Dimensional Reactive Contaminant Transport Model In An Agricultural Area, Mcclean County Central Illinois, Franklin O. Ijigade
Theses and Dissertations
Saturated Riparian Buffers (SRBs) are engineered systems designed to remove nitrate and other pollutants from subsurface agricultural drainage water before it reaches a stream. This study utilizes a high-resolution coupled flow and reactive transport model to explore nitrate reduction and transformation in an SRB in glacial sediment. The influence of material heterogeneity on nitrate reduction and the effectiveness of the SRB was investigated. The study was conducted in an SRB located next to and receiving tile drainage water that ultimately drains into a 3rd order stream (T3 stream) in central Illinois, USA. A three-dimensional steady groundwater flow model was …
Application Of Floating Wetlands To Improve Urban Stream Quality, Daniel Chukwunonso Chukwudi
Application Of Floating Wetlands To Improve Urban Stream Quality, Daniel Chukwunonso Chukwudi
Theses and Dissertations
Urban streams, impacted by urbanization, often exhibit degraded water quality due to elevated nutrient levels, a phenomenon known as urban stream syndrome. This study evaluates the effectiveness of a floating wetland (FW) system in reducing nitrate as nitrogen (NO₃-N) and phosphate (PO₄³⁻) concentrations in a side canal of the Chicago River’s North Branch, adjacent to Goose Island, Chicago, IL, from 2018 to 2023. Using a five-year dataset, including new sampling from May to December 2023, the research addresses two questions: (1) Do FWs lower NO₃-N and PO₄³⁻ concentrations in urban streams? and (2) Do FWs exhibit seasonal differences in nutrient …

Tribes As Nations: The Future Of The Trust Relationship, Adam Crepelle
Tribes As Nations: The Future Of The Trust Relationship, Adam Crepelle
Faculty Publications & Other Works
Tribes are nations. This fundamental truth is often lost in the trust relationship. For most of the United States’ history, the trust relationship was used as a justification to control tribes and obtain their resources. The trust relationship took a new shape during the 1970s—tribal self-determination. Self-determination has resulted in many benefits for tribes; however, tribes still suffer from externally imposed constraints on their sovereignty, such as complex federal bureaucracy and limits on their jurisdiction. This Article argues removing the antiquated constraints on tribal sovereignty is required for the trust relationship to advance, and, once it advances, tribes will be …

The Color Of Carbon: Racial Capitalism, Climate Change, And Law, Sumudu Atapattu, Carmen G. Gonzalez
Faculty Publications & Other Works
Climate change is a direct consequence of capitalism’s drive to maximize profits through the unbridled extraction of wealth from humans and nature, aided and abetted at every turn by law. In its voracious demand for cheap labor, cheap raw materials, and cheap waste disposal, capitalism has created a treadmill of fossil fuel–dependent production and consumption that has triggered a planetary emergency. It has also produced extreme economic inequality—a racialized division of wealth grounded in colonialism that enables the ultrarich to capture the spoils of the capitalist global economy while billions of people continue to live in extreme poverty. The articles …

State Gross Domestic Product And The Economic Legacy Of The Civil War In The American South, Jacob N. Anderson
State Gross Domestic Product And The Economic Legacy Of The Civil War In The American South, Jacob N. Anderson
Tenor of Our Times
Many southern states, excluding Texas and Florida, have reported significantly lower annual GDP than other American subregions since the Civil War and Reconstruction. Furthermore, some recent articles show a correlation between southern states with higher levels of poverty and those who fought on the side of the Confederacy. Several sources make a logical argument that the South is still in the process of equilibrating to the economic norm, and the continuation of certain economic principles has prolonged that process further. To examine a possible relationship between state wealth and the history of the Confederacy in the southern states, I test …

Predicting Evapotranspiration, Quick Flow, And Recharge In The Contiguous United States Through 2100, Paige Aldenberg
Predicting Evapotranspiration, Quick Flow, And Recharge In The Contiguous United States Through 2100, Paige Aldenberg
Open Access Master's Theses
Groundwater pumping has more than doubled since 1950 across the United States and now accounts for more than 50% of water use in much of the country. These high pumping rates have exceeded recharge in many aquifers, especially in the dry Western United States. As a result, water levels are declining, increasing water scarcity for humans, and causing various adverse ecosystem impacts. So, predictions of future groundwater recharge rates, especially in the face of changing climates, are necessary for informing future water management practices. While historical groundwater recharge rates have been estimated across broad geographic regions, high-resolution predictions of future …
Entrenchment Of Employment Inequality In The Academic Workforce: The Implications Of “An” Appropriate Bargaining Unit, Katherine Ashley
Entrenchment Of Employment Inequality In The Academic Workforce: The Implications Of “An” Appropriate Bargaining Unit, Katherine Ashley
Dalhousie Law Journal
The academic workforce has changed dramatically in recent years. Formerly, universities were staffed primarily by tenured faculty, making possible the collegial governance models under which they operate statutorily. There has been a shift away from this model, however, and universities now rely more heavily on part-time professors. Postsecondary institutions are among the most heavily unionized workplaces in Canada. Yet, while academic unionization is widespread, the unionization model is inconsistent: some unions are faculty associations, while others are not; some unions represent only full-time professors; others represent part-time instructors; others represent both; and some also include other types of academic employees. …
