Incidence Of Staphylococcus Aureus On Fomentation Covers, Yvonne Badgley Mcdaniel

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

This study was to ascertain whether fomentation covers were contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus prior to being placed on a patient receiving a hydrotherapy treatment.

From a review of literature on the subject of the Staphylococcus aureus organism and from studies of hospital-acquired staphylococcal infection it appeared that: (1) researches had used various techniques for making cultures from fabrics, (2) the Staphylococcus aureus cultures may react in varying ways to the laboratory tests making the classification somewhat difficult, (3) the problem of hospital-acquired staphylococcal cross-infection was present, (4) the role played by the environment in hospital-acquired infections was controversial, and (5) …

Worldwide Training In Air Pollution Control, Harold M. Cota Jul 1964

Worldwide Training In Air Pollution Control, Harold M. Cota

Civil and Environmental Engineering

A survey of academic training in air pollution control was recently conducted for the APCA Education Council. Questionnaires were sent to faculty at over 200 universities in the United States and 150 universities around the world. This paper lists the schools which completed the questionnaire and includes the number of both undergraduate and graduate courses available, the academic department, and the range of research projects presently underway. The findings indicate that air pollution is a subject being taught worldwide. Most schools predict that their current level of instruction will not change in the next five years. Additions and corrections are …

Annotated Checklist Of The Birds Of San Joaquin County, California, James Leroy Tate Jr. Jan 1964

Annotated Checklist Of The Birds Of San Joaquin County, California, James Leroy Tate Jr.

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Evaluation of many records is the only way valid judgments can be made on abundance and status. The necessity of obtaining exact dates, localities, numbers, and special weather conditions cannot be overemphasized. For this reason, records in supplement to this list are freely solicited.

The present checklist includes all species and subspecies for which specimens exist. In some instances sight records have been adequate reason for including a species on the list when no specimen existed. Sight records for species which are difficult to identify have been admitted upon careful editing. The author has followed the policy outlined by Griscom …

Environmental Studies For Radar Operations In The Auroral Zone, Warren L. Flock Oct 1962

Environmental Studies For Radar Operations In The Auroral Zone, Warren L. Flock

GI Reports

The relations between VHF and UHF radio aurora and geomagnetic activity, as indicated by telluric current records, have been investigated. (VHF and UHF radio aurora are considered in Parts I and II, respectively, of this report.) VHF radio aurora, observed over Barrow, Alaska by a 41 Mc/s radar at Kotzebue, Alaska, and telluric current activity at Barrow show a high correlation, particularly with respect to onsets of major activity. Slight or moderate activity usually gives some forewarning of intense activity, but some disturbances have extremely abrupt onsets of intense activity. The correlation is clearly highest for overhead and nearly overhead …

Hillsborough County: Framework Of The Plan Report, Hillsborough County Planning Commission Mar 1962

Hillsborough County: Framework Of The Plan Report, Hillsborough County Planning Commission

City and Regional Planning -- Florida

Hillsborough County's future physical growth will be built upon the base comprised of the existing development pattern : (a) Although the geographic location of Hillsborough is unalterable, man-made improvements to the natural setting are required to adapt the land form to present and future functions. Large scale drainage and hurricane protection improvements are essential to adequately adapt low- lying coastal sections to the expanding pattern of community development. (b) Protection and proper utilization of prime agricultural, phosphate mining, and waterfront areas is also essential to the maintenance of a balanced development pattern. (c) Community development occupies a relatively small proportion …

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The Upper Cretaceous Greenhorn Limestone is composed of intercalated agrillaceous limestone and calcareous shale beds which crop out over much of the Western Interior. The Greenhorn was deposited in late Cenomanian and early Turonian time in a westward transgressing sea. In New Mexico the age is early Turonian. The edge of deposition extends as far south as Capitan and Carthage, northward through western Bernalillio County, and northwest through Toadlena.

The Distribution And Ecology Of The Hispid And Least Cotton Rat (Genus Sigmodon) In New Mexico, John S. Mohlhenrich May 1959

The Distribution And Ecology Of The Hispid And Least Cotton Rat (Genus Sigmodon) In New Mexico, John S. Mohlhenrich

Biology ETDs

Two species of cotton rats, Sigmodon minimus Mearns (least cotton rat) and S. hispidus Baird (hispid cotton rat), occur in the Rio Grande Valley of New Mexico. The northernmost published record-station for S. hispidus is near Scorro, Scorro County ( Bailey, 1931: 167), and that S. minimus is near Isleta, Bernalillo County (Ivey, 1947: 498 and map). When recent field work by the author revealed the presence of both species in the Rio Grande Valley north of these published record-stations the problem arose whether the range extensions were the result of a recent northward extension of the range of the …
