Efficacy Of Salmonella Surrogate Enterococcus Faecium In Poultry And Mash Broiler Feed, Corey Waitman Coe

This dissertation investigates the efficacy of Enterococcus faecium as a surrogate for Salmonella in validating thermal inactivation processes during poultry feed manufacturing and meat processing. The research encompassed three studies evaluating microbial kinetics in mash broiler feed, reconstructed ground chicken, and predictive modeling approaches to improve food safety interventions. In the first study, the thermal resistance of nalidixic acid-resistant Salmonella Typhimurium and E. faecium was compared in mash broiler feed heated at 75–95°C. Results demonstrated that E. faecium exhibited significantly greater heat resistance than Salmonella, with longer shoulder times, greater tailing effects, and higher D-values, supporting its use as …

Wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) are an economically and culturally significantly game species throughout much of the United States. Within South Dakota, spring turkey hunting generates approximately $20 million in expenditures annually to local economies. Merriam’s wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo meriami) were reintroduced to the Missouri River Breaks of Gregory County, South Dakota, USA, between the 1950s and 1980s, and was one of the most successful reintroductions in the state. This study aims to assess Indonesia’s readiness to implement carbon trading in 2025 to achieve net zero emissions by 2060. The research uses a mixed-method approach, combining literature review, multivariate linear regression, and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The results indicate that the Human Development Index (HDI) has a negative and significant impact on CO2 emissions in the long term. This impact is greater than the results observed in Singapore and Thailand. With established policies and a demographic bonus in 2045, optimizing human resources is crucial for achieving net zero emissions by 2060.

This thesis explores how government and private funding structures and policy criteria influence community-based organizations (CBOs) engaged in urban greening projects, focusing on Southside Richmond, Virginia through a case study of a local CBO. Using a multi-method approach including document analysis, secondary data review, and autoethnographic reflection, the research suggests a gap between visibility and influence for CBOs, showing that their decision-making authority often varies while they are publicly recognized. The study also reveals that public documentation of funders' community engagement is often performative or symbolic rather than structurally embedded in decision-making processes. Measuring flame, air, and soil temperatures during wildland fires, including wildfires and controlled burns in land management contexts, is crucial for research and applications in fire ecology, safety, and management in a wide array of ecosystems, from grasslands to forests. However, open-source and commercial systems are needed for measuring and logging flame and air temperatures that are user-friendly, economical, modular, and customizable. This paper details the design, development, and validation of the FireLog system. Avicennia germinans, the black mangrove, has shifted its range limit northward, and increased in abundance in the Southeastern United States. In January 2018, a 3-day freeze event caused substantial defoliation of green leaves in A. germinans near its northernmost range limit in St. Augustine, FL. During their recovery, plants that lost their leaves grew similarly to plants fertilized with nitrogen, leading to the hypothesis that freeze-killed green leaves (frozen green) may have acted as a fertilizer. The undersigned are scientists with expertise in per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and/or the management of chemicals. We assert that the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) definition of PFASs is scientifically grounded, unambiguous, and well suited to identify these chemicals. We are concerned that some individuals and organizations are seeking a redefinition of PFASs endorsed by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) to exclude certain fluorinated chemical subgroups from the scope of the existing definition. Background: Cancer is a leading cause of death in Georgia, with rising incidence in rural counties where many residents rely on unregulated private wells. These wells may contain contaminants such as radon, lead, nitrate, and arsenic, all linked to increased cancer risk. Limited research has explored how environmental exposure awareness influences cancer prevention behaviors such as screening. Guided by the Champion Health Belief Model, this study examined psychosocial and environmental predictors of screening intent among private well owners. รูปแบบการวิจัยเชิงบรรยายวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ วัตถุประสงค์: 1) เพื่อศึกษาความต้องการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพผู้ป่วยสูงอายุที่มีภาวะพึ่งพิงที่เข้าสู่การดูแลระยะกลางในโรงพยาบาล 2) เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่าง เพศ ภาวะเปราะบาง ภาวะโภชนาการ ภาวะซึมเศร้า และจำนวนชนิดของยาที่ใช้ประจำ กับความต้องการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพผู้ป่วยสูงอายุที่มีภาวะพึ่งพิงที่เข้าสู่การดูแลระยะกลางในโรงพยาบาล กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ ผู้ที่มีอายุเกิน 60 ปีบริบูรณ์ขึ้นไปที่พ้นระยะเฉียบพลัน มีสภาวะทางการแพทย์คงที่และมีสัญญาณชีพปกติ ทั้งเพศชายและเพศหญิงที่มารับบริการในแผนกผู้ป่วยในโรงพยาบาลระดับตติยภูมิ 3 แห่ง โรงพยาบาลเลิดสิน โรงพยาบาลเจริญกรุงประชารักษ์ และโรงพยาบาลจุฬาลงกรณ์ สภากาชาดไทย จำนวน 93 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการเก็บข้อมูล ได้แก่ แบบสอบถามข้อมูลส่วนบุคคล แบบประเมินความสามารถในกิจวัตรขั้นพื้นฐานของผู้สูงอายุ แบบประเมินภาวะรู้คิด แบบประเมินภาวะเปราะบางอย่างง่าย วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติพรรณนา สถิติสหสัมพันธ์อีต้า และสถิติสหสัมพันธ์ของ สเปียร์แมน

ผลการศึกษา: พบว่า 1) ผู้ป่วยสูงอายุที่มีภาวะพึ่งพิงที่เข้าสู่การดูแลระยะกลางในโรงพยาบาลมีความต้องการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพในระดับปานกลาง (mean = 55.04, SD = 10.55) 2) ภาวะเปราะบาง มีความสัมพันธ์กับความต้องการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพผู้ป่วยสูงอายุที่มีภาวะพึ่งพิงที่เข้าสู่การดูแลระยะกลางในโรงพยาบาลอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (=.259, p< .05) 3) ภาวะโภชนาการ มีความสัมพันธ์กับความต้องการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพผู้ป่วยสูงอายุที่มีภาวะพึ่งพิงที่เข้าสู่การดูแลระยะกลางในโรงพยาบาลอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (rs = 313, p< .05) 4) ภาวะซึมเศร้า มีความสัมพันธ์กับความต้องการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพผู้ป่วยสูงอายุที่มีภาวะพึ่งพิงที่เข้าสู่การดูแลระยะกลางในโรงพยาบาลอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (rs = -247, p< .05) 5) จำนวนชนิดของยาที่ใช้ประจำ มีความสัมพันธ์กับความต้องการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพผู้ป่วยสูงอายุที่มีภาวะพึ่งพิงที่เข้าสู่การดูแลระยะกลางในโรงพยาบาล อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (rs = -264, p< .05) และ 6) เพศ ไม่มีความสัมพันธ์กับความต้องการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพผู้ป่วยสูงอายุที่มีภาวะพึ่งพิงที่เข้าสู่การดูแลระยะกลางในโรงพยาบาล

สรุป: ควรจัดทำกิจกรรมการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพเป็นรายบุคคลตามความต้องการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพทั้งด้านร่างกายด้านจิตใจ และจัดให้มีกิจกรรมนันทนาการเพิ่มจากการบริการขั้นพื้นฐานการดูแลระยะกลาง เพื่อมุ่งเน้นให้ผู้ป่วยได้เข้าใจคุณค่าที่สำคัญของชีวิตและรับรู้ถึงประโยชน์ของการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพ

วัตถุประสงค์: เพื่อเปรียบเทียบอาการปวดในผู้ที่มีอาการปวดหลังส่วนล่างก่อนและหลังได้รับโปรแกรมการจัดการอาการร่วมกับการยืดเหยียดกล้ามเนื้อ และเปรียบเทียบคะแนนอาการปวดในผู้ที่มีอาการปวดหลังส่วนล่างหลังได้รับโปรแกรมฯ กับผู้ที่ได้รับการพยาบาลตามปกติ

รูปแบบการวิจัย: การวิจัยกึ่งทดลองแบบสองกลุ่มวัดผลก่อนและหลังการทดลอง

วิธีดำเนินการวิจัย: กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ ผู้ป่วยที่มีอาการปวดหลังส่วนล่าง ทั้งเพศชายและเพศหญิง คัดเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างตามเกณฑ์ที่กำหนดแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง แบ่งเป็นกลุ่มควบคุมที่ได้รับการพยาบาลปกติจำนวน 21 คนและกลุ่มทดลองที่ได้รับโปรแกรมการจัดการอาการร่วมกับการยืดเหยียดกล้ามเนื้อต่ออาการปวด จำนวน 21 คน ผู้วิจัยพัฒนาโปรแกรมโดยได้นำกรอบแนวคิดการจัดการอาการของ Dodd et al. (2001) ร่วมกับเทคนิคการยืดเหยียดกล้ามเนื้อสำหรับผู้ป่วยปวดหลังส่วนล่าง การประเมินอาการปวด ใช้แบบประเมินมาตรวัดความปวดด้วยสายตา (Visual analog scale: VAS) สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ ค่าความถี่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน สถิติเปรียบเทียบค่าเฉลี่ยอาการปวดของผู้ป่วยที่มีอาการปวดหลังส่วนล่างก่อนและหลังการทดลอง ในกลุ่มทดลอง และเปรียบเทียบค่าเฉลี่ยอาการปวดหลังการทดลองระหว่างกลุ่มควบคุมและกลุ่มทดลอง

ผลการวิจัย:    1. ผู้ที่มีอาการปวดหลังส่วนล่าง หลังได้รับโปรแกรมการจัดการอาการร่วมกับการยืดเหยียดกล้ามเนื้อ มีอาการปวดต่ำกว่าก่อนได้รับโปรแกรมการจัดการอาการร่วมกับการยืดเหยียดกล้ามเนื้อ อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05

Background: COVID-19 continues to pose a major global health challenge. Despite its geographic distance from Brazil’s major urban centers, Acre state has experienced notable outbreaks. This study assessed the detection and persistence of SARS-CoV-2 in the rural settlement of Santa Luzia, located in the remote municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre state, Brazil. Methods: In July 2022, a cross-sectional survey was conducted at 40 sites from an ongoing environmental study, selected by deforestation patterns and proximity to health posts. Per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), termed “forever chemicals” for their persistence in the environment, are under investigation for their carcinogenic effects, but their specific impacts on colorectal cancer (CRC) progression remain largely unexplored. This study uses untargeted metabolomics to examine the effects of PFAS exposure on cells of CRC stages 2, 3, and 4, and identify state-specific alterations in important metabolic pathways. Later stage cells exhibit a greater response than early stage cells, suggesting increased susceptibility to PFAS effects in cells of more advanced cancer. In many developing cities, the scarcity of adequate observed precipitation stations, due to constraints such as limited space, urban growth, and maintenance challenges, compromises data reliability. This study explores the use of satellite-based precipitation products (SbPPs) as a solution to supplement missing data over the long term, thereby enabling more accurate environmental analysis and decision-making. Assessment Of Drivers Of Light Attenuation In Virginia Reservoirs, Jackson Barnett

Water clarity in aquatic ecosystems is crucial for submerged vegetation and algal dynamics. We investigated the factors influencing light attenuation (kd) by measuring total suspended solids (TSS), chlorophyll-a (CHLa), and chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) across thirteen stations located in seven reservoirs. Average kd was 1.69 m^-1 (range: 0.37-3.99 m^-1), with photic depths averaging 3.27 m (range: 1.15-12.43 m). TSS was the primary predictor of light attenuation (R² = 0.57, P = 0.003, SE = 0.053).
