A Curious Document Recently Discovered In The Archives, Peter Tillers
A Curious Document Recently Discovered In The Archives, Peter Tillers
Cardozo Law Review
The document reproduced below, which appears to be a letter written by Peter Pilgrim to "Lash, " was recently discovered in the archives of the library of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Peter Pilgrim is the late Doctor of Facts at Cardozo. "Lash" is probably L.H. LaRue, Story Professor of Law at Washli University. Professor LaRue is also known as the Delphic Oracle of Lex, possibly because no one knows for sure what the letters "L.H." represent. The annotations to the text of the putative letter appear to be a mixture of notes by its author and comments …
Remedies For Environmental Racism: A View From The Field, Luke W. Cole
Remedies For Environmental Racism: A View From The Field, Luke W. Cole
Michigan Law Review
The Michigan Law Review's recent Note, Remedying Environmental Racism, is an important and timely analysis of a civil rights law-based approach to environmental justice work - one of the first to emerge from legal academia. It correctly points out the high hurdles that toxic racism's victims must overcome to successfully pursue such a strategy. Godsil's piece will hopefully spur more academic and on-the-ground work in this nascent legal field, which I call "environmental poverty law" - that is, representing low-income communities (often, in this field, communities of color) facing environmental hazards. As a practitioner of environmental poverty law …

Technology Transfer: Fighting Climate Change And Pursuing Equity Through The Transfer Of Energy Efficient And Renewable Energy Technologies, Craig M. Scott
All Papers
The present paper was prepared in the first half of 1991 in collaboration with three national sections of Friends of the Earth (Indonesia, Ghana and Canada). It was written by Craig Scott, with input and feedback from each section, and then edited by Robert Hornung. The purpose of the paper was to provide a discussion document of a “white paper” sort that could be used, as seen fit by Friends of the Earth and allied civil society organizations, in the advocacy efforts before, during and after either the official Earth Summit (of states) in Rio de Janeiro that led to …

The Developing Countries In The Evolution Of An International Environmental Law, John Ntambirweki
The Developing Countries In The Evolution Of An International Environmental Law, John Ntambirweki
UC Law SF International Law Review
Until the global community began to recognize the damage wrought by uninhibited economic development throughout most of this century, the developing countries of the Third World foresaw and aspired to a similar unimpeded advance toward economic prosperity. Instead, in an effort to establish international economic order and environmental conservation, the developed countries asked the developing countries to join them in championing environmental conservation at the expense of economic development. Despite the fundamental incompatibility between developmental and environmental goals, the developing countries reluctantly joined the environmental cause, hoping to secure a role for themselves as the creators of new international environmental …

During the mid-1980s, the Rural Crisis Issue Team of the National Council of churches worked with several Inner-City Church Groups on the loss of land experienced by farmers, especially black farmers, and the changing food system and Rural-Urban Connection Conferences across the country. It was evident by the attendance at those events that urban dwellers were not too concerned that farmers were being forced from the land but some participants registered concern over the quality and price of food stuffs.
