New Materialism And Public Lands: Opportunities For Human And Nonhuman Interactions At Petroglyph National Monument, Madilynn M. Nolen
New Materialism And Public Lands: Opportunities For Human And Nonhuman Interactions At Petroglyph National Monument, Madilynn M. Nolen
Geography ETDs
Petroglyph National Monument (PETR) resides at the intersection of geology, urban development, and environmental preservation. As the site of convergence for these complex systems, this National Park site is an example of what kinds of interactions occur between humans and nonhumans and how these interactions mediate our broader understanding of material world. This project utilizes literature from more-than-human geographies and new materialism to examine how these interactions inform the management strategies of PETR. Through the interviews of 15 Volunteers-in-Parks and a focus group of five PETR employees, this project investigates what nonhuman entities are present on and around the monument, …

Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy Staff Publications
Background: Veterans of the 1990-1991 Gulf War have experienced excess health problems, most prominently the multisymptom condition Gulf War illness (GWI). The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Cooperative Studies Program #2006 "Genomics of Gulf War Illness in Veterans" project was established to address important questions concerning pathobiological and genetic aspects of GWI. The current study evaluated patterns of chronic ill health/GWI in the VA Million Veteran Program (MVP) Gulf War veteran cohort in relation to wartime exposures and key features of deployment, 27-30 years after Gulf War service.
Methods: MVP participants who served in the 1990-1991 Gulf War completed the …

An important subset of meningiomas behaves aggressively and is characterized by multiple recurrences. We identify clinical, genetic, and epigenetic predictors of multiply recurrent meningiomas (MRMs) and evaluate the evolution of these meningiomas in patient-matched samples. On multivariable binomial logistic regression, MRMs were significantly associated with male sex (

Towards Orthodox Polity: Episcopal Apology In Eusebius Of Caesarea’S Ecclesiastical History, Chris Cox
Towards Orthodox Polity: Episcopal Apology In Eusebius Of Caesarea’S Ecclesiastical History, Chris Cox
Studia Antiqua
During the last twenty years Eusebius of Caesarea’s Ecclesiastical History has received some examination by scholars as a work of apology. In this paper, I propose that one element of Eusebius’ apologetics is a defense of the episcopal polity which existed during his lifetime. This is evident through the priority which the episcopacy is given throughout Ecclesiastical History’s narrative, and the authority that Eusebius presumes the episcopate holds from its origin. Additionally, it is possible that groups which Eusebius considered heretical and who rejected the authority of orthodox bishops may have motivated his episcopal emphasis.

The Different Esthers Of The Septuagint And Masoretic Text: How The Inclusion Of God Changes The Character Of Esther, Heidyn Von Bose
Studia Antiqua
The Book of Esther is a unique work that contains significant differences between the Hebrew and Greek versions of the text. One significant difference is the character of Esther herself. In the throne room scene of chapter five (or addition D in the LXX), the LXX Esther is more passive than the Esther of the Hebrew Bible because of the inclusion of God and more specifically the differences in the power structure between God, Esther, and the king. By analyzing the different characters’ movements and the language describing them in chapter 5 or Addition D, the differences of Esther’s character …

Association of Arab Universities Journal for Education and Psychology
This study aimed at exploring the effect of an art- based approach on fourth grade students' achievement in English grammar in Damascus state schools. A quasi- experimental approach was undertaken in this study. The total number of participants was 60 in a state school in Damascus during the academic year 2023-2024. The sample consisted of two groups; the control group (30) students, and the experimental group (30) students. The instruments of the study were an achievement test and art- rich activities. The SPSS statistical program was used to analyze the study data and the hypotheses were tested at the level …

The current study aimed to identify the roles and qualities that Arab women have in the” Arabic language book for the third grade in Arab schools within Palestinian territories. The study population was the Arabic language book for the third grade, which is composed of two parts, with a sample size of 39 texts distributed between functional and literary texts. The researchers followed the content analysis method, which is one of the descriptive methods, where the descriptive method focuses on studying the phenomenon and describing it accurately, either qualitatively or quantitatively. Qualitative expression describes the phenomenon and clarifies its characteristics, …

“Our Precious Heritage”: Catholic Subject Headings And The Assertion Of Worldview Through Cataloging, Deirdre Sullivan
School of Information Studies - Post-doc and Student Scholarship
Catholic Subject Headings, a list of subject headings focused on describing and representing Catholic belief, ritual, and culture, was first published in 1942 by the Catholic Library Association for use in Catholic libraries. The creation of a cataloging tool solely to represent and serve a distinct religious population allows for an imposition of religious worldview by those utilizing Catholic Subject Headings onto the materials they interacted with. The need for a specifically Catholic cataloging system is also revealing of the complex tensions between Catholics and Protestants and within the American Catholic community in 20th century America.

Development Of Graphene Oxide-Based Biosensing Platforms For Label-Free Bioelectronic Detection Of Pathogenic Microorganisms, Sezi̇n Yüksel, Fethi̇ye Ferda Yilmaz, Hüseyi̇n Taşli, Pinar Kara
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A novel electrochemical nanogenosensor devoted to clinical analysis is reported for label-free detection of pathogenic microorganisms in the present work. The designed biosensor is composed of graphene oxide-modified disposable pencil graphite electrodes as a sensing platform. Escherichia coli is used as a model case. A 5ʹ-aminohexyl-linked 22-base sequence probe representing the E. coli amplicon is immobilized onto sensor surfaces via carbodiimide chemistry. Hybridization is performed with denatured PCR amplicons of the bacteria. Detection is realized by transduction with the electrochemical impedance spectrometry technique. The selectivity of the designed genosensor is measured using Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Klebsiella pneumoniae sequences. Outstanding sensitivity …
