The Operation Of The Holy Spirit In Pastoral Counseling And Chaplaincy, Elizabeth Canfield Oct 2024

The Operation Of The Holy Spirit In Pastoral Counseling And Chaplaincy, Elizabeth Canfield

Doctor of Ministry (DMin)

The operation of the Holy Spirit in pastoral counseling and chaplaincy is a topic that is difficult to quantify. How and where the Holy Spirit moves is often a mystery. This dissertation seeks to understand the movement of the Holy Spirit in pastoral counseling and chaplaincy in the form of a theological and literature review looking into the history of soul care/pastoral counseling and the development of chaplaincy. It also looks at who the Holy Spirit is, how the Spirit operates, and develops a theology of the Holy Spirit within pastoral counseling and chaplaincy with a focus on spiritual gifts. …

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women in America. The prevalence of breast cancer is higher in White women than Black women; however, death rates are higher among Black women than White women due to late detection and treatment. This quantitative study used the multi-theory model to examine factors affecting mammography screening among Black American women. Data were collected using Qualtrics. An independent t-test was used to compare mammography screening behavior among Black women who had mammograms with those who had not. Multiple linear regression was used to predict the initiation and sustenance of mammography …

Towards Understanding Capacity Development As A System: Perceptions From Multiple Conservation Stakeholder Groups In Bhutan, Jeremy S. Brooks, Sonam Wangyel Wang, Ugyen Namgyel, Jennifer Zavaleta Cheek, Katia Nakamura Lam, Johanna Eklund, Om Katel, Daniel C. Miller

Natural Resource Management Faculty Publications

Capacity development is crucial for enduring conservation success. Recent scholarship has called for a systems perspective based on input from local stakeholders to better understand and develop conservation capacity. However, few studies have adopted such an approach to explore interactions among capacities or how capacity development needs and priorities evolve. We address this gap through a case study from Bhutan, centred on perceptions from 52 local conservation practitioners, planners, funders and community members. We use mixed methods to identify which capacities have been important for conservation success, which capacities are needed for future success, which capacities are foundational and how …

How The Settler State Continues To Dispossess: Infrastructural (Dis)Entitlement On The Critical Minerals Frontier, Dayna Nadine Scott Oct 2024

How The Settler State Continues To Dispossess: Infrastructural (Dis)Entitlement On The Critical Minerals Frontier, Dayna Nadine Scott

All Papers

The scramble for critical minerals to fuel the energy transition is driving new extractive frontiers across the globe. In Ontario’s far north, settler state authorities and extractive firms are engaged in coordinated tactics to gain ground amidst a growing polarization in positions of Indigenous leadership. There is both a surging resistance to, and a resigned acceptance of, critical minerals mining by First Nations. Drawing on years of community-engaged research, I detail here the contemporary state tactics of infrastructural (dis)entitlement; infrastructural needs are both denied and fulfilled to differential effect. Infrastructural disentitlement is passive; it is not necessarily deliberate, nor is …

Mining Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Verifying and validating explosion-resistant design models are challenging tasks due to the difficulties in accurately capturing the failure evolution within a setup influenced by the combined effects of fluid–solid interactions (FSI), blast waves, fragmentation, and impact. Curtain wall system, as a key structural component, is widely used in various types of buildings for its aesthetic appeal and weather protection. Hence, optimizing the explosion-resistance of such systems is necessary to improve building safety. In this work, we develop computational procedures that can be used to enhance the design of blast-resistant structures. This paper focuses on studying a representative component (e.g., window …

KAUPA Letters

This paper explores the characteristics and cultural underpinnings of Japanese illness haiku through the works of Masaoka Shiki (1867-1902) and Kobayashi Issa (1763-1828), two of Japan’s haiku masters. Shiki, a modern reformer of haiku, suffered from tuberculosis for most of his life and passed away at thirty-five, while Issa’s illness haiku primarily reflect the final days of his father. This study incorporates biographical details and applies insights from health psychology to deepen the analysis.

Do Parents Know Best: The Impact Of Parental Sleep Knowledge And Related Factors On Sleep In Children With Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Rachel Nicole Chavez

Theses and Dissertations

Sleep problems are a common concern reported by parents of children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). The prevalence of sleep disorders in those with NDD have been reported as high as 86% compared to 25% of typically developing children (Horwood et al., 2019, Robin-Shelton, 2016). These sleep problems can have detrimental effects on cognition, development, behavior, emotion regulation, and physical health. Existing research demonstrates a significant relationship between a child’s sleep disturbances and their parents’ sleep quality and level of parenting stress. This study aimed to identify the gaps in parental sleep knowledge and examined how parent sleep quality and parental …
