The discovery of histone H3 copper reductase activity provides a novel metabolic framework for understanding the functions of core histone residues, which, unlike N-terminal residues, have remained largely unexplored. We previously demonstrated that histone H3 cysteine 110 (H3C110) contributes to cupric (Cu2+) ion binding and its reduction to the cuprous (Cu1+) form. However, this residue is absent in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, raising questions about its evolutionary and functional significance. Here, we report that H3C110 has been lost in many fungal lineages despite near-universal conservation across eukaryotes. Introduction of H3C110 into S. cerevisiae increased intracellular Cu1+ levels and ameliorated the iron …

An Exploration Of The Use Of Supplementary Materials By English Teachers In The Uae, Nour M. Hammo
Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses
This study explores the use of supplementary materials in English classrooms in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), exploring their types, how teachers integrate them, and the challenges they encounter when implementing them in their English language classrooms. Using materials in language teaching and learning is important and widely recognized. Understanding these materials and their use is crucial as educational institutions evolve in teaching English, particularly in multicultural-speaking countries like the UAE.
The study employed a qualitative case study approach, collecting data through triangulation, which comprised classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and artifacts. Thematic analysis revealed patterns in the types of supplementary …
Sounds Of Battle And Battle Of Sounds: Belliphonic In Tolkien, Ali Mirzabayati
Sounds Of Battle And Battle Of Sounds: Belliphonic In Tolkien, Ali Mirzabayati
Journal of Tolkien Research
This paper explores the concept of the belliphonic—a term denoting the acoustic dimensions of warfare—within the context of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, focusing on the Battle of the Five Armies. While modern war studies have mainly centered on the mechanized soundscapes of twentieth-century conflict, this study engages with recent scholarly efforts to recover the sonic textures of medieval battle. Drawing on theories of wartime acoustics and examples from medieval literature, the paper examines how Tolkien, informed by his expertise in Old and Middle English texts and his lived experience in World War I, crafts a dynamic and psychologically …

Preparation Of Nanoparticles And Study Of The Effect Of Some Of Their Physical Properties On Epoxy Polymer, Aya N. Abdullah, Niran F. Abeduljabbar
Al-Bahir
Nanoparticles were prepared by the laboratory thermal method from copper, magnesium, and zinc oxides. Different nanoparticles were added to epoxy at weight fractions of (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) wt. %. The structural results from X-ray diffraction showed the appearance of epoxy in a random system, and when reinforced with nanopowders at higher addition ratios, we find the appearance of nanoparticles in a clear crystalline form, while the SEM results showed an increase in consistency and homogeneity with each increase in the proportions of nanoparticles, which appeared clearly during the EDX examination. The hardness of Shore type D was …
A Likely Story: The Differing Narratives Between The Anglican And Catholic Presentation Of The Reformation, Cecilia Broxon
A Likely Story: The Differing Narratives Between The Anglican And Catholic Presentation Of The Reformation, Cecilia Broxon
Scholars Week
The story of the Anglican reformation is often simplified to the result of King Henry VIII's desire for a divorce; however, this paper argues that it was a complex and prolonged process marked by differing Anglican and Catholic narratives. By exploring primary sources, including letters and interviews, as well as secondary analyses, this paper discusses misconceptions surrounding the Reformation, such as its speed and primary motivations. It further examines the formation of early Anglican doctrine and the contrasting presentations of the Reformation, revealing instances of resistance, the destruction of Catholic art, and the mistreatment of churches, which are frequently downplayed …
A Spiritual Renewal For Italian Immigrants, Katie Douglas
A Spiritual Renewal For Italian Immigrants, Katie Douglas
2025 Awards for Excellence in Student Research and Creative Activity - Documents
When the Church had officially declared that an Italian who supported the unification of Italy could no longer be a Catholic in good standing, the question became this: to be a patriot, or to be a Catholic? This question of allegiance brought about anticlerical sentiments. When the wave of “new”-- mostly Eastern and Southern European– immigrants started coming to the United States starting in the 1880’s, they were met with pushback from many of the “old”-- particularly Irish and German– immigrants who held their clergy in high esteem. Many non-Catholic Americans simply used the label “new” vs “old” to describe …

Magical Differences As Textual Coding For Neuroqueerness, Killeen Reidy
Magical Differences As Textual Coding For Neuroqueerness, Killeen Reidy
2025 Awards for Excellence in Student Research and Creative Activity - Documents
In this paper I will be looking at Young Adult Fantasy texts in which their protagonist is magically differentiated from his world. I will argue that this protagonist, and those similar, can be analyzed as textually coded as neurodiverse due to his interactions with the other characters in his story and his society at large, as well as having experiences common to neurodiverse people in reality. Further, I will be arguing that the character can function within the definition of neuroqueer as defined by M. Remi Yergeau. These argumentations will be developed alongside each other with the idea of queer-coding …

Marvin Owens v. Gary Schuette
On Appeal from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan Case No. 2:24-cv-10787
From the Summary of the Argument
This appeal requires the Court to correct an error below—derived from a recently abrogated error in this Court’s own precedent—that denies the full remedial protections enacted to safeguard religious exercise under RLUIPA. The only question is whether RLUIPA allows courts to award damages against counties and their officials. The only answer—especially following the Supreme Court’s unanimous interpretation of an identical provision in RFRA—is yes.

The Disrupted Symphony Of Speech: A Lesion Network Mapping Analysis Of Apraxia Of Speech, Payton Harris, Harrison Moore, Milija Grotenhuis, Jared Nielsen, Michael A. Ferguson
FHSS Mentored Research Conference
Apraxia of Speech (AOS) is a motor speech disorder that causes difficulty planning and coordinating the movements necessary for speech. This study uses lesion network mapping to identify the neural connections of AOS by tracing lesion data and analyzing their functional connectivity patterns. Our data indicates strong connectivity between the left primary motor cortex and right premotor cortex. The findings of the left primary motor cortex differ from most AOS research but still correlate with regional functions found in healthy populations. However, results related to the right motor cortex were much less expected, and suggested a larger, understudied role in …
