Utah Women, Discrimination, And Sexism: Experiences And Perceptions, April Townsend, Susan R. Madsen
Marketing and Strategy Faculty Publications
During the fall of 2023, Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) researchers conducted a statewide study to establish a baseline for public perceptions related to the awareness, understanding, and attitudes about challenges that Utah women and girls face. In early 2024, UWLP published 20 research summaries1 that shared the results of this comprehensive study. Then, in the fall of 2024, the survey was administered again around the state of Utah with slight refinements. Between January and April of 2025, we have shared the results of the 2024 data by releasing six white papers, this being the final report in …

Scoping Review Of Algorithms For Electronic Fetal Monitoring, Katherine Sabatier, Kate Fouquier Cnm, Phd, Facnm
Scoping Review Of Algorithms For Electronic Fetal Monitoring, Katherine Sabatier, Kate Fouquier Cnm, Phd, Facnm
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Purpose/Background
The purpose of this scoping review is to review the use of an algorithm in evaluating continuous external fetal heart rate (FHR) monitoring in labor as opposed to clinician judgment for improved fetal outcomes, including earlier recognition of abnormal tracings (Clark et al., 2017). FHR monitoring was created to evaluate for fetal hypoxia in labor and has become standard practice (Gyllencreutz et al., 2018). One of the goals of the use of cardiotocography is to decrease hypoxia-induced fetal metabolic acidemia and neurologic injury. There are multiple options for individual or computer-based algorithms in evaluating FHR to reduce fetal acidemia …
A Comparative Analysis Of Demographic Characteristics Of Male Intimate Partner Violence Perpetrators, Katherine M. Thompson
A Comparative Analysis Of Demographic Characteristics Of Male Intimate Partner Violence Perpetrators, Katherine M. Thompson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Intimate partner violence is a significant and widespread social issue with far-reaching personal, societal, and economic consequences. Nonfatal strangulation is an act of violence that is considered a strong predictor of homicide within violent relationships. While research about nonfatal strangulation has improved, there is still limited knowledge about individuals who commit acts of strangulation within violent relationships. This study was an investigation of demographic characteristics of male individuals who commit acts of strangulation within intimate relationships. This research was grounded in the power and control theory, general strain theory, and social learning theory. The research questions for the study examined …
Heavy Ion Testing Of Versal Acap Ai Engines, Caleb S. Price
Heavy Ion Testing Of Versal Acap Ai Engines, Caleb S. Price
Theses and Dissertations
With recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI), there has been an ever increasing need for computation power in space. These AI models are traditionally implemented on GPUs. However, these units come at a high cost in terms of weight and power usage. Due to these limitations, many organizations are turning to the Versal ACAP device, a system on chip (SOC) with hundreds of AI engines. This option delivers more computation per watt than a traditional GPU. The desire to use Versal ACAP in space has created a need to perform radiation testing on the device. Extensive testing has been performed …
Gnss-Denied Navigation Using Lte Signals Of Opportunity On Low-Cost, Low-Swap Hardware, Tyler Sweat
Gnss-Denied Navigation Using Lte Signals Of Opportunity On Low-Cost, Low-Swap Hardware, Tyler Sweat
Theses and Dissertations
Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) navigation is crucial in the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). GNSS signals are susceptible to jamming, spoofing, multipath, and urban canyons and may provide incorrect position information or may not be available at all. For autonomous missions, a backup for GNSS is desirable in the event that it is unavailable. Terrestrial cellular signals are a promising option for navigation because they are continuously transmitted at higher power levels. Optimizing hardware size, weight, and power (SWaP) is critical for UAVs to maximize endurance, payload capacity, and operational efficiency. We present a system that uses long-term …

The Idea of Nature Public Lecture Series
The natural world is in desperate need of some healing—and so are we. Can attention to birds, as one of the most accessible gateways to nature, offer a way forward for a planet in trouble while also bridging some of the chasms between us human beings? Practically born with a pair of binoculars in his hands, Cooper is the vice president of New York City Bird Alliance. He advocates for greater, safer access to green spaces for all, with a focus on outreach to youth in underserved communities. A longtime activist on issues of racial justice and LGBTQ equality, Christian …

Citation: Klinkhammer, B. (2025, April 9). Students make their voice heard at Applied Engineering building opening. Northern Iowan, 2.
This article is a description of a recent protest at the new Applied Engineering Building. Well over 100 UNI students, Cedar Falls High School students, and the Cedar Valley came together to protest Kim Reynolds appearance for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Kim Reynolds failed to appear to give a speech and to help cut the ribbon. I think that in itself is so powerful, to know that she didn't show up because people showed up to protest against someone so …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Statins are known to display pleiotropic effects on the vascular system, beyond their lipid-lowering properties. Studieson isolated vascular preparations have demonstrated their acute relaxant effects on vascular tone. Considering the increased evidence inregard to the contribution of perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) in the regulation of vascular homeostasis, we aimed to investigate thepossible modulatory role of PVAT in the vascular effects of atorvastatin and rosuvastatin in isolated rat aorta.
Materials and methods: Thoracic aortas isolated from young male Wistar rats were divided into two groups: rings with intact PVAT(+) and rings without PVAT (-), and then mounted in an isolated …

Blockchain Transparency In Reducing Second-Hand Luxury Shopping Uncertainty And The Role Of Price Consciousness, Song‑Yi Youn, Joohye Hwang, Naan Ju
School of Business Faculty Papers
This study explores consumer behavior and decision-making in the context of blockchain technology (BT) adoption within the second-hand luxury market. Specifically, it investigates how BT can reduce uncertainty and enhance transparency in second-hand luxury transactions based on a mental accounting theory approach. A partial least squares structural equation modeling analysis (N = 511) was conducted, focusing on consumers’ perceived quality of traceable information obtained through BT (i.e., product diagnosticity, informativeness, and trustworthiness) and their perceived risks in second-hand luxury online shopping (i.e., financial risk, social risk, time risk, contamination risk, performance risk). The findings confirm that the perceived quality of …

Glycation Metabolites Predict Incident Age-Related Comorbidities And Mortality In Older People With Hiv, Xi Qiao, Liangliang Zhang, Ming Wang
Glycation Metabolites Predict Incident Age-Related Comorbidities And Mortality In Older People With Hiv, Xi Qiao, Liangliang Zhang, Ming Wang
Faculty Scholarship
Glycation is a class of modifications arising from non-enzymatic reactions of reducing sugars with proteins, lipids, and/or DNA, generating advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). AGEs are linked to many age-related comorbidities. In response to HIV-1 infection, activated T-cells and macrophages shift their predominate metabolism from oxidative phosphorylation to glycolysis. Increased glycolytic flux enhances AGE formation, which may increase age-related comorbidities. In this prospective, multicenter cohort study of antiretroviral therapy treated people with HIV, we explored predictive associations by baseline plasma AGE concentrations and their corresponding detoxification metabolites, with incident comorbidities and mortality. AGEs included dicarbonyl sugars: 3-deoxyglucosone, glyoxal, and methylglyoxal. Methylglyoxal-derived …
Understanding Dialogic Interactions In Online Religious Education, Isaac Munoz Moreno
Understanding Dialogic Interactions In Online Religious Education, Isaac Munoz Moreno
Theses and Dissertations
In this study, I explored how Latter-day Saint higher education professors experienced and facilitated dialogic interactions in online religion courses. Seven instructors who taught synchronous and asynchronous virtual courses at Brigham Young University participated in semi-structured interviews focused on their pedagogical approaches, relational practices, and perceptions of student engagement. Guided by hermeneutic phenomenology and drawing on principles of dialogic pedagogy, I explored how religion instructors cultivated dialogue in virtual classrooms grounded in doctrinal instruction. The findings revealed how professors created a relational presence, navigated institutional constraints, and fostered deep learning and spiritual growth environments. While some participants viewed online dialogue …

Essay, Father John Crossing The Gandy: A Micro-History With Music, Julie Buckner Armstrong
Creekshed: Ekphrastic Writing with the Archives
“Father John Crossing the Gandy: A Micro-History with Music” synthesizes Father John Culmer’s 1927 passage across the Gandy Bridge with the lyrics of James Weldon Johnson’s “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” to plot out Culmer’s role in the proliferation of church access and spirituality throughout and beyond the Black communities of South Florida. The work blends historical legacy with speculative interiority to produce an insightful and empathetic statement regarding, what has been, what can be, and how to build a bridge between the two.

Poem, Cornerstones Of A City, Pedro El Poeta Jarquin
Creekshed: Ekphrastic Writing with the Archives
Cornerstones of a City is a three-part poem that explores Ybor City’s role as an important cultural touchstone of Tampa. The poem references the great Ybor City fire of 1908 and frames this tragic event as a point around which residents would rally to rebuild their neighborhood and preserve Ybor City’s status as the hub of immigrant community in the Tampa area.
Poem, Creek Freak, Tyler Gillespie
Poem, Creek Freak, Tyler Gillespie
Creekshed: Ekphrastic Writing with the Archives
“Creek Freak” is a first-person prose-poetic hybrid that portrays a short-lived romance between the narrator and a creature composed of various swamp elements that reveals how many of the narrator’s attempts at compassion or sincerity for the swamp creature are hollow platitudes that reflect the moral grandstanding gestures of those who wish to appear ecologically sensitive. The repetitive, back-and-forth exchange that concludes “Creek Freak” emphasizes the gap that continues to exist between ecological emergencies and collective social action.

Essay, Madira Bickel Mounds, Diane Roberts
Creekshed: Ekphrastic Writing with the Archives
“Madira Bickel Mound” critiques the common contemporary view of Florida history as beginning with European intervention and excavates the centuries of cultural development that occurred prior to the arrival of European entities. The mounds that remain standing across the state act as mementos of a displaced people and cultural system whose ancient presence is not as detached from the current moment as one might believe.

Poem, Research Note, Or, All The Colors Vary According To The Point Of Vision, Tyler Gillespie
Creekshed: Ekphrastic Writing with the Archives
research note, Or, all the colors vary according to the point of vision is a poem that examines a sketch of two birds that appears in Ellis Hughes’s diary. Instead of conjecturing about Hughes’s intention, the narrator connects the sketch to the formation of their own intimate relationship and how the formation of that relationship metaphorically mimics the subjective romance of the sketched birds.
