Collaborative Tree Search For Enhancing Embodied Multi-Agent Collaboration, Lizheng Zu, Lin Lin, Song Fu, Na Zhao, Pan Zhou

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Embodied agents based on large language models (LLMs) face significant challenges in collaborative tasks, requiring effective communication and reasonable division of labor to ensure efficient and correct task completion. Previous approaches with simple communication patterns carry erroneous or incoherent agent actions, which can lead to additional risks. To address these problems, we propose Cooperative Tree Search (CoTS), a framework designed to significantly improve collaborative planning and task execution efficiency among embodied agents. CoTS guides multi-agents to discuss long-term strategic plans within a modified Monte Carlo tree, searching along LLMdriven reward functions to provide a more thoughtful and promising approach to …

Modfinity: Unsupervised Domain Adaptation With Multimodal Information Flow Intertwining, Shanglin Liu, Jianming Lv, Jingdan Kang, Huaidong Zhang, Zequan Liang, Shengfeng He

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Multimodal unsupervised domain adaptation leverages unlabeled data in the target domain to enhance multimodal systems continuously. While current state-of-the-art methods encourage interaction between sub-models of different modalities through pseudo-labeling and feature-level exchange, varying sample quality across modalities can lead to the propagation of inaccurate information, resulting in error accumulation. To address this, we propose Modal-Affinity Multimodal Domain Adaptation (MODfinity), a method that dynamically manages multimodal information flow through fine-grained control over teacher model selection, guiding information intertwining at both feature and label levels. By treating labels as an independent modality, MODfinity enables balanced performance assessment across modalities, employing a novel …

A Knowledge Enhanced Large Language Model For Bug Localization, Yue Li, Bohan Liu, Ting Zhang, Zhiqi Wang, David Lo, Lanxin Yang, Jun Lyu, He Zhang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

A significant number of bug reports are generated every day as software systems continue to develop. Large Language Models (LLMs) have been used to correlate bug reports with source code to locate bugs automatically. The existing research has shown that LLMs are effective for bug localization and can increase software development efficiency. However, these studies still have two limitations. First, these models fail to capture context information about bug reports and source code. Second, these models are unable to understand the domain-specific expertise inherent to particular projects, such as version information in projects that are composed of alphanumeric characters without …

Deepvec: State-Vector Aware Test Case Selection For Enhancing Recurrent Neural Network, Zhonghao Jiang, Meng Yan, Li Huang, Weifeng Sun, Chao Liu, Song Sun, David Lo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Deep Neural Networks (DNN) have realized significant achievements across various application domains. There is no doubt that testing and enhancing a pre-trained DNN that has been deployed in an application scenario is crucial, because it can reduce the failures of the DNN. DNN-driven software testing and enhancement require large amounts of labeled data. The high cost and inefficiency caused by the large volume of data of manual labeling, and the time consumption of testing all cases in real scenarios are unacceptable. Therefore, test case selection technologies are proposed to reduce the time cost by selecting and only labeling representative test …

Collision Kinematics For Fast Positron Impact Ionization Of Argon, Robert D. Dubois, Károly Tőkési Jun 2025

Collision Kinematics For Fast Positron Impact Ionization Of Argon, Robert D. Dubois, Károly Tőkési

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

Classical trajectory Monte Carlo calculations for 1 keV positron impact ionization of argon are presented. A combination of energy-weighted triple differential cross-sections is shown to provide good to excellent agreement compared with experimental data, depending on the ejected electron azimuthal angular acceptance range used to define in-plane scattering. For ejected electron energies less than 100 eV, information about the influence of pre- (the impact parameter) and post-(the direction of scattering) collision kinematics on the triple differential level is obtained. An overall picture of these kinematic properties is also presented for single differential cross-sections as a function of ejected electron energy …

A Critical Evaluation Of The Criticisms Against Neutrosophic Statistical Methods, Muhammad Aslam, Abdulrahman Alaita, Florentin Smarandache

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Neutrosophic statistical analysis has gained attention for incorporating the degree of indeterminacy when analyzing imprecise and interval data under uncertainty–-an aspect often overlooked by classical statistics, fuzzy statistical analysis, and interval statistics. Recently, critical discussions have emerged regarding the use and applications of neutrosophic statistics, with some questioning its usefulness and validity. In this paper, we present a critical assessment of the existing literature, focusing on areas where misunderstandings and misinterpretations of neutrosophic statistical methods have occurred. We also examine flawed comparisons made between the results of neutrosophic statistics and interval statistics. Furthermore, substantial issues have been identified in the …

How Regulations Impact Contractors In California: Licensing, Insurance, Bonding & Permitting, Byron Rolando Calderon Cifuentes

Construction Management

This senior project researches the impact of regulatory requirements, specifically licensing, insurance, bonding, and permitting, on contractors in California. The study addresses the question: How do regulations affect contractors’ ability to operate and grow? To examine this, qualitative interviews were conducted with six industry professionals, including general contractors, specialty contractors, and design-build firms. Additionally, 25 survey responses were collected from contractors and construction professionals to gain broader insights. The findings reveal that while licensing, insurance, and bonding are seen as foundational for establishing credibility and legal compliance, the permitting process presents the most significant challenge. Respondents consistently described permitting as …

Biochar is a charcoal-like substance made by the pyrolysis of organic material from agricultural and forestry waste. While biochar is well documented for altering soil physicochemical conditions, few studies have investigated its possible effects on the management of arthropod pests. Tobacco hornworm (Manduca sexta) and fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda, FAW) are specialist and generalist insect herbivores respectively, that can cause significant defoliation in natural and agricultural ecosystems. In this study, we examined whether walnut shell biochar can affect growth and development of these herbivores. Specifically, we investigated how biochar influences parameters such as mass gain, length …

Investigation Of Retention And Dehydration Of Preformed Particle Gel For Conformance Control In Fractured Carbonates, Abdulaziz A. Almakimi, Abdullah O. Almansour, Junchen Liu, Baojun Bai, Ibnelwaleed A. Hussein

Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Preformed particle gel (PPG) treatment has proved to be among the most effective methods to reduce excessive water production in fractured reservoirs. The blocking ability of PPGs to fractures or fracture-like features is highly dependent on injected gel properties and volume. Gel dehydration during extrusion through fracture is common and has a considerable effect on gel properties, transport, and plugging efficiency. As the gel particles propagate through the fracture, continuous dehydration is often associated and causes the gel to concentrate and require high-pressure gradients to move. Dehydration might be desirable to a certain limit because it can help to form …

Supporting Academic Parents: The Effects Of Dependent Care Policies On Research Productivity Trends, Drake Van Egdom, Matthew M. Piszczek, Christiane Spitzmueller, Peggy Lindner, Aaron Clauset

Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

On average, women faculty take on more childcare responsibilities, posing barriers to career success. Work-family policies represent one solution for advancing gender equity in academia as they support parents after childbirth with benefits for children, employees, and organizations. We contribute to understanding how the availability and use of dependent care policies (paid parental leave and childcare benefits) relate to long-term research productivity trends. Based on the work-home resources model, we theorize that policy availability provides contextual resources and policy use provides personal resources, leading to improvements in an individual's research productivity after they have a child. We also examine potential …

Dietary Interventions To Support And Improve Sleep Disturbances And Insomnia Disorder In Menopause: From Bench To Bedside, Rosie H Musgrave, Sara Nowakowski, Tamlyn J Watermeyer, Emily J Arentson-Lantz, Greg J Elder

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Sleep is essential for maintaining physical and psychological health, and also cognitive health (referred to as 'brain health'). However, the transition to menopause has a direct impact upon sleep. Sleep disturbances are reported by approximately 40%-60% of menopausal women, and insomnia disorder is also prevalent. Diet-based interventions could potentially be used to improve subjective sleep quality in this population, and although there are several promising interventions which have been used in other groups that could be trialled, the evidence base is currently lacking. One particularly promising area for future research is that these interventions might be used alongside, or instead …

Extreme hypertriglyceridemia, defined as triglyceride (TG) levels ≥1000 mg/dL, is almost always indicative of chylomicronemia. The current diagnostic approach categorizes individuals with chylomicronemia into familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS; prevalence 1-10 per million), caused by the biallelic combination of pathogenic variants that impair the lipolytic action of lipoprotein lipase (LPL), or multifactorial chylomicronemia syndrome (MCS, 1 in 500). A pragmatic framework should emphasize the severity of the phenotype and the risk of complications. Therefore, we endorse the term "persistent chylomicronemia" defined as TG ≥1000 mg/dL in more than half of the measurements to encompass patients with the highest risk for pancreatitis, …

Despite advances in cardiovascular disease risk stratification, traditional risk prediction models often fail to identify high-risk individuals before adverse events occur, underscoring the need for more precise tools. Polygenic risk scores (PRS) quantify genetic susceptibility by aggregating genetic variants but face challenges in practice. This systematic review investigates how artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms can optimize PRS (AI-optimized PRS) to improve cardiovascular disease prediction. Analyzing 13 studies, we found that AI-optimized PRS models enhance predictive accuracy by improving feature selection, handling high-dimensional data, and integrating diverse variables-including clinical risk factors, biomarkers, imaging, and combining multiple PRS. These models …

An extensive library of symptom inventories has been developed over time to measure clinical symptoms of traumatic brain injury (TBI), but this variety has led to several long-standing issues. Most notably, results drawn from different settings and studies are not comparable. This creates a fundamental problem in TBI diagnostics and outcome prediction, namely that it is not possible to equate results drawn from distinct tools and symptom inventories. Here, we present an approach using semantic textual similarity (STS) to link symptoms and scores across previously incongruous symptom inventories by ranking item text similarities according to their conceptual likeness. We tested …

Background: The benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) for ampullary adenocarcinoma is unclear. The Hidden Genome model classifies prognostic subtypes with greater accuracy than standard histologic classification (intestinal [INT] vs pancreatobiliary [PB]), but its predictive capacity to guide the use of AC remains unstudied.

Methods: We applied the Hidden Genome model to an international cohort of 183 patients with resected ampullary adenocarcinoma who underwent genomic sequencing. The model quantified the predicted cell of origin (colorectal vs pancreas/distal bile duct) in all specimens. Overall survival (OS) was compared using Kaplan-Meier estimates, stratified by AC use versus surgery alone (SA).

Results: Most patients …

Background: Sarcopenia is a syndrome of severe muscle wasting, associated with adverse outcomes related to liver transplantation (LT). There are several approaches used to identify sarcopenia. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of sarcopenia using 3 different criteria and determine how these performed in relation to clinical outcomes.

Methods: The cohort study included 237 adults with cirrhosis referred for LT. Sarcopenia was identified using (1) CT-defined; and the (2) original and (3) updated European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People criteria (EWGSOP1 and 2). Logistic regression was used to estimate OR and 95% CI for the relationships between sarcopenia …

Objective: This study investigates the barriers to and facilitators of sustaining a decision aid (DA) tool for patients with SLE in routine rheumatology outpatient care across the USA. The DA was initially developed for assisting patients with SLE in making informed medication choices by providing personalized information on their treatment process.

Methods: We conducted semi-structured interviews with clinicians, administrators, and information technology (IT) professionals from 15 geographically diverse rheumatology clinics that participated in a large-scale DA implementation trial. Interviews were transcribed and analysed using NVivo, with thematic coding to identify key factors influencing DA sustainability.

Results: The analysis identified several …

Background: Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is a guideline-recommended therapy in patients with heart failure with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF, 36%-50%) and left bundle branch block or indication for ventricular pacing. Conduction system pacing (CSP) using left bundle branch area pacing or His bundle pacing has been shown to be a safe and physiologic alternative to biventricular pacing (BVP).

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes between BVP and CSP for patients with HFmrEF undergoing CRT.

Methods: Consecutive patients who underwent BVP or CSP with HFmrEF between January 2018 and June 2023 at 16 international …

It has been 40 years since the first discovery of the important human pathogen, Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). Eradication of the infection continues to pose significant challenges in part because of the global increase in antibiotic resistance. Generally, the “addition” strategy has failed to deliver the desired results for more than a short period and often contributed to the increase in the prevalence of resistant strains. As such, optimization of each component of the treatment strategy has become an increasingly critical focus of research. In this study, we summarized the evolution of H. pylori eradication regimens and the …
