The Economics Of Liability In Low Orbit Satellites, Mitchell Rieder
The Economics Of Liability In Low Orbit Satellites, Mitchell Rieder
Student Work
This paper aims to answer three main questions regarding this proportional liability approach:
- What is the microeconomic perspective of utilizing proportional liability, and how can it be applied to the LEOS industry?
- What are the benefits of such an approach? How do these benefits differ from existing policy propositions?
- What steps are necessary before proportional liability can be implemented?
Through the evaluation of these questions, this paper seeks to demonstrate the policy viability of proportional liability, additionally showing that this policy will perform in much the same way as a standard Pigouvian tax, which existing research has evaluated though differing …

Compliance With International Humanitarian Law And Peacebuilding In Post-Conflict Kosovo, Avni H. Alidemaj, Alban Maliqi, Johne Doone, Valdon Bytyci
Hasanuddin Law Review
Unprecedented violent conflicts occurred worldwide during the 20th century. Millions of lives lost, infrastructure destroyed, and generational effects on post-conflict nations. Meanwhile, international humanitarian law was developed to reduce conflict damage. Government parties to International Humanitarian Law (IHL) conventions have enforceable obligations to implement, promote, and perform their duties, helping to promote their wider recognition and enforcement. During the Kosovo conflict, Serbian military commanders and the police violated international humanitarian law by breaking fundamental precepts. The study of the Kosovo conflict prioritizes criminal accountability and historical documentation over the enduring societal consequences of violations of IHL. There are not many …

Shaping The Labor Market Of Vietnam In The Age Of Artificial Intelligence: Comparative Insights From The European Union, Hong Nhung Pham, Thi Thuy Lam Tran
Hasanuddin Law Review
The right to work has always been a fundamental right of human which was recorded in law documents. However, the recent development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created an issue that it may affect the domestic and international labor markets. In Vietnam, where over half of the population participates in the labor force, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to significantly reshape both employment dynamics and the regulatory landscape. While AI presents opportunities to create new types of employment, it simultaneously threatens to displace existing jobs, particularly among low-skilled and vulnerable workers. Despite the growing relevance of …

Design Of Hydrogen Powered High Altitude Conventional Tube-Wing Aircraft For Aerosol Injection In Stratosphere, Raymond J. Hogea
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study
This paper presents the conceptual design and performance analysis of a hydrogen-powered, high-altitude aircraft developed for long-endurance aerosol dispersion missions. Raymer’s methodology is used for initial sizing of the aircraft, followed by utilizing a hybrid weight estimation method comparing the Raymer, Torenbeek, NASA, and Roskam weight estimation methodologies to create a robust weight estimation. Analysis of aerodynamic, propulsion, weight, stability, and mission performance is conducted in RDSwin to demonstrate a sustained operation for a mission including a 65,000 ft altitude, 3.5-hour cruise segment for dispersing a 50,000 lb aerosol payload. Numerous iterations of the aircraft are performed to refine aircraft …
Economic Sanctions In International Arbitration Proceedings, Admir Muratović
Economic Sanctions In International Arbitration Proceedings, Admir Muratović
Loyola of Los Angeles International and Comparative Law Review
The world is witnessing the imposition of new economic sanctions on an every-day basis. After the Russian annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014, and in particular with the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the issue of economic sanctions received an upsurge of public scrutiny. Russian investors and companies, a number of which are facing economic sanctions, do substantial businesses in States that imposed sanctions targeting them. At the same time, Russian entities have established business relationships with corporations originating in such States. On the other hand, after the Crimea annexation, Russia adopted certain measures to counter the effect …

Multiplex immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry (mIF/IHC) are increasingly employed antibody-based technologies that use tissue sparingly and facilitate the detection of co-localized or neighboring biomarkers. Specifically, these platforms enable spatial analyses of the tumor microenvironment as well as extended applications, for example, describing normal tissue anatomy, autoimmunity, infectious diseases, etc. mIF/IHC has greatly enhanced biomarker discovery efforts, and a growing number of studies suggest superiority to traditional IHC. Standardization of staining approaches, reporting of image analysis strategies and resultant data is critical for facilitating cross-study comparisons, validation, deployment, and generalization of findings. To address this challenge, The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer …

Department of Neurology Faculty Papers
BACKGROUND: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is the most frequently observed autoimmune neuropathy in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). While intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) is a well-established treatment for CIDP, its efficacy in diabetic patients remains uncertain due to their exclusion from prior randomized trials, largely because of concerns about confounding diabetic axonal neuropathy.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effectiveness of IVIG therapy in CIDP patients with diabetes mellitus (CIDP-DM) compared to those without diabetes (CIDP).
DESIGN: Multi-center, prospective, observational study after at least 3 monthly infusions of IVIG therapy.
METHODS: Thirty-six patients meeting diagnostic criteria for CIDP were enrolled and …
A Failure To Converge? The Use Of Convergent Designs In Mixed Methods Research, David L. Morgan
A Failure To Converge? The Use Of Convergent Designs In Mixed Methods Research, David L. Morgan
Sociology Faculty Publications and Presentations
Prior studies show that what are known as “convergent” designs are the most common form of mixed methods research, yet there has been too little investigation into what researchers actually do when they use convergent designs. This study addresses that gap in the literature by investi-gating not only the prevalence of convergent designs but also the types of convergent designs used and the degree of integration in studies that used this design. I used content analysis to ex-amine a random sample of 500 articles from the Web of Science that mentioned mixed methods and were published in 2023. The results …

At A Crossroads: Is English-Only Gaining New Ground In U.S. Education Policy?, Joao Goebel
SPACE: Student Perspectives About Civic Engagement
This article explores the implications of the recent Executive Order declaring English the official language of the United States, situating it within the historical context of English-only ideology and its impact on multilingual learners. While framed as a unifying policy, the order revokes Executive Order 13166, reducing federal protections for language access and echoing past efforts to marginalize non-English languages in schools. Drawing on precedents from 19th-century monolingual policies to Proposition 227, the article argues the order signals a renewed shift toward restrictive, subtractive approaches, offering an "educated guess" about their potential return and consequences. The analysis considers broader impacts …

Plowing With A Pencil: Policy Approaches For States Squaring Agricultural Interests With Select Public Interests, Mary Eichenberger
Journal of Food Law & Policy
From a fifth-generation wheat farmer on the Kansas plains to a cattle rancher in Montana to a beginning peach producer in Georgia, American agriculture produces, provides, and protects sources of food, fiber, fuel, and shelter. American agriculture, once solely supported by rural family farmers and steeped in an agrarian system, now relies heavily on industrialized operations, creating an arena ripe for the clash of diverse policy perspectives. As farmers produce the food enjoyed at dinner tables across the country, the inevitable impacts of agriculture production on the environment have led to policy and legal arguments surrounding the regulation of agriculture. …

Why Food In The United States May (Still) Never Be Safe: A Look Back At My Over Thirty Years Thinking About Food And The Law, Denis Stearns
Journal of Food Law & Policy
This article can serve a function as a concluding section—a kind of coda—for issues addressed in greater depth by the author (Denis Stearns) before.
This article also allows Sterns to return to a central question that prompted his thought-journey in the first place: Why does the food in this country continue to be so unsafe, despite all of the laws, all of the enforcement efforts, all of the food safety advocacy, and all of the lawsuits filed to recover damages on behalf of people injured and killed year after year. What follows, then, are additional and updated conclusions that thirty …

SPACE: Student Perspectives About Civic Engagement
Our text, We Built This: Redesigning Higher Education from the Ground Up While They Try to Burn It Down, examines how recent federal policy shifts, particularly the 2025 Dear Colleague letter and the Project 2025 educational platform, function as deliberate acts of deconstruction. These measures threaten to dismantle equity infrastructures in higher education while intensifying the erasure of Black women’s labor, leadership and legacy in the academy. Through Critical Policy Analysis and Black feminist thought, we argue that these policies operate simultaneously as blueprint and wrecking ball, systematically unraveling decades of progress and constraining the very communities that have sustained …

Impact Of Community Health Needs Assessments As Barriers To Chronic Disease Prevention: A Comparative Study, Marissa E. Woelm Ms.
Impact Of Community Health Needs Assessments As Barriers To Chronic Disease Prevention: A Comparative Study, Marissa E. Woelm Ms.
Honors Thesis
Community health needs assessments (CHNAs) are vital tools for identifying population health priorities through monitoring chronic diseases and conditions; however, their effectiveness in preventing chronic diseases remains debated. This comparative study examines CHNAs from sixteen South Dakota hospitals across Avera, Sanford, Monument Health, and independent systems to evaluate their role in preventing chronic diseases. Analysis reveals significant challenges, including biased data sampling, limited community engagement, small survey samples, and inconsistent implementation strategies. While CHNAs effectively identify mental health, cancer, and obesity as the top community concerns alongside several other diseases like diabetes and kidney disease, most reports lack specific timelines …
Building Relationships: Does Perceived Counselor Cultural Humility Improve Client Satisfaction Of Mental Health Services Within Therapeutic Dyads Of Dissimilar Identities?, Noah Schoch
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A wealth of clinical research has uncovered the presence of mental health treatment disparities and a lack of treatment consistency when working with clients of dissimilar identities. The purpose of this dissertation study was to investigate potential causes for the observed disparities minoritized individuals have experienced and understand if cultural humility was a variable that affected mental health treatment satisfaction when counselor-client had dissimilar cultural identities. This was achieved through the following research questions: (1) What is the relationship between the extent of client perceived racial/ethnic similarity within the therapeutic dyad and client-rated mental health treatment satisfaction? (2) What is …

(Post-)Colonial Shakespeares: Macbeth In South Africa, Mahmoud T. Kholeif
Theses and Dissertations
The history of Shakespeare in South Africa is that of an often contested cultural battleground, with meanings fought over across a colonial boundary. In Chapter One, we examine some of the many cultural intersections between Shakespeare and South African rewriters. In the process, we can see how Shakespeare came to the region as a tool for colonial domination, but would eventually be used to rebuke the colonial narrative that was conservatively ascribed to him. He was used to enforce racial and political hierarchies, particularly through missionary education and institutions like the “Kaffir Institution.” The anxieties surrounding the ‘overproduction’ of Western-educated …

Did Anderson V. Tiktok Get It Right? Holding Social Media Providers Accountable For Harm To Adolescents, Allison Mitton
BYU Law Review
When dangerous social media challenges go viral and cause harm to adolescents and young children, should the platform be held liable for pushing that content? As it currently stands, Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1934 prevents this from happening. However, Anderson v. TikTok—a recent suit brought on behalf of a ten-year-old girl who died after asphyxiating herself while participating in the viral “Blackout Challenge”—seeks to change that.
The Third Circuit court in Anderson held that social media algorithms should be considered first-party speech, or the platform’s own expressive activity, rather than third-party speech, displaying its users’ expressive …

Sensory processing varies across individuals, with some traits-particularly sensory hypersensitivity to basic non-valenced stimuli-linked to emotional traits and psychiatric risk. Traditional accounts attribute this sensory-emotion linkage to limbic or prefrontal modulation, but empirical support is limited. Growing evidence suggests sensory cortex itself flexibly encodes value beyond labeled-line analysis. Across four high-density EEG experiments with multi-wave assessments, we identified reliable visual cortical hyperactivity in high trait anxiety. The effect emerged as early as 46 ms, localized to V1/V2, and was specific to the parvocellular pathway. It was reproducible across arousal states, stimulus valence, extended intervals, and paradigms, and evident for both …

The Promise And Peril Of Artificial Intelligence In Higher Education, James Lipuma, Cristo Leon
STEM for Success Resources
Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents higher education with both transformative potential and profound risk. While AI-tools can personalize learning and enhance collaboration, they also threaten to erode critical thinking, intellectual independence, and the reflective depth of human inquiry. This conceptual analysis applies transdisciplinary communication (TDC) and educational psychology frameworks to examine how AI integration influences learning, teaching, and institutional practices. Findings highlight that AI-tools can strengthen collaboration, automate administrative tasks, and promote inclusivity across languages and disciplines. However, overreliance on automation risks reducing empathy, ethical reasoning, and creativity. The study identifies interpretation, judgment, and contextual understanding as human dimensions that remain …

Infectious prions readily adhere to common surfaces, retain infectivity, and are highly resistant to conventional decontamination, posing significant biosafety challenges in the medical and research environments. Recent occupational exposures underscore the urgency of improving safety measures. Here, we describe an approach combining foam-swab surface sampling and protein misfolding cyclic amplification to enhance prion surveillance. Our results demonstrate the ability to detect prions most relevant to human health directly from contaminated surfaces, even at 100 million-fold dilutions of the brain. We applied our method to assess the completeness of prion decontamination and show that high prion quantities can resist even approved …
