The Individualized Education Program (Iep) Team As Interprofessional Health Care Team: Team Members' And Pediatric Residents' Perceptions, Tara Minor

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones

Background: Interprofessional health care teams have been widely studied. Neglected in the discussion of interprofessional health care teams, however, are Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams, despite their integral connection to children's health care. This study explored the concept of IEP teams as interprofessional health care teams by examining how IEP members, including pediatricians, conceptualize individuals' team roles and whether a simulated IEP meeting affects pediatric residents' attitudes about the interprofessional nature of and their roles on IEP teams.

Methods: Pediatric residents (n=18) from a large, urban academic medical center participated in a simulated IEP meeting. Quantitative data from the Interprofessional …

In the realm of behavioral interventions, a combined approach of yoga and a cognitive-behavioral strategy in the form of introspective meditation (manan-dhyana) may offer benefits as a stress management tool. This pilot study focuses on introspective meditation performed before seeking pleasurable activities, which is a self-reflection about whether to pursue a goal that will bring sensory pleasure in life. A non-probability sample of college students was recruited from a mid-sized Southern University of the United States using a 52-items web-based survey built in Qualtrics. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate statistics were used to analyze data. Of total 65 students, only 21.5% …

Investigating The Future Potential Of An Upgraded Alma To Image Planet-Forming Disks At Sub-Astronomical-Unit Scales, Benjamin P. Burrill, Luca Ricci, Sarah K. Harter, Shangjia Zhang, Zhaohuan Zhu

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Research

In recent years, ALMA has been able to observe large-scale substructures within protoplanetary disks. Comparison with the predictions from models of planet–disk interactions has indicated that most of these disk substructures can be explained by the presence of planets with the mass of Neptune or larger at orbital radii of ≈5–100 au. Better resolution is needed to observe structures closer to the star, where terrestrial planets are expected to form, as well as structures opened by planets with masses lower than Neptune. We investigate the capabilities of a possible extension to ALMA that would double the longest baseline lengths in …

The Correlation Between Peer Support And Quality Of Life Of Nurses, Kim Diane Rose Maryniak Mar 2022

The Correlation Between Peer Support And Quality Of Life Of Nurses, Kim Diane Rose Maryniak

Dissertations

Nurses can experience stress and perceived traumatic events during their career. This distress in the workplace can affect the quality of life of nurses. Exposure to perceived distressing events may lead to burnout, compassion fatigue, post-traumatic stress disorder, patient errors or poor outcomes, horizontal violence or even nurses leaving the profession. Peer support is a strategy which has been explored to increase defensive lines and improve coping. The purpose of this descriptive, correlational study was to examine if a relationship exists between the use of peer support, as conceptualized within the framework of the Neuman System Model, and the quality …

Identifying And Reporting Position-Specific Countermovement Jump Outcome And Phase Characteristics Within Rugby League, John J. Mcmahon, Jason P. Lake, Paul Comfort Mar 2022

Identifying And Reporting Position-Specific Countermovement Jump Outcome And Phase Characteristics Within Rugby League, John J. Mcmahon, Jason P. Lake, Paul Comfort

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

The countermovement jump (CMJ) has been suggested to be an important test of neuromuscular performance for rugby league (RL) players. Identifying force platform-derived CMJ variables that may be more applicable to RL positions (e.g., forwards and backs) has yet to be fully explored in the scientific literature. The aim of this study was to identify RL position-specific CMJ force-time variables. Specifically, we aimed to compare select forcetime variables from the countermovement (i.e., the combination of unweighting and braking) and propulsion phases of the CMJ between the global forwards and backs positional groups. We also aimed to compare typical (i.e., jump …

Newborn Screening: Review Of Its Impact For Cystinosis, Katharina Hohenfellner, Ewa Elenberg, Gema Ariceta, Galina Nesterova, Neveen A Soliman, Rezan Topaloglu

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Newborn screening (NBS) programmes are considered to be one of the most successful secondary prevention measures in childhood to prevent or reduce morbidity and/or mortality via early disease identification and subsequent initiation of therapy. However, while many rare diseases can now be detected at an early stage using appropriate diagnostics, the introduction of a new target disease requires a detailed analysis of the entire screening process, including a robust scientific background, analytics, information technology, and logistics. In addition, ethics, financing, and the required medical measures need to be considered to allow the benefits of screening to be evaluated at a …

Faculty Publications

Increased diversity, demographics, and population shifts in higher education have led many academic libraries to reexamine their marketing efforts and adopt strategies that promote relationships and inclusivity. This requirement has become more prominent among libraries serving a highly diverse user community, particularly in a more racially and ethnically diverse campus. Adopting a marketing model that cultivates more meaningful long-term relationships with customers ensures long-term satisfaction and loyalty to the library brand. Using marketing and promotional examples from the James White Library, this article addresses the academic library’s relationship marketing strategy in an increasingly multicultural higher education environment.

Pocahontas of the Native American Powhatan tribe was born around 1595 in what is now Virginia. When Pocahontas was eleven years old, English men came and started a colony called Jamestown. Pocahontas was able to help the foreigners and her tribe communicate so they could borrow supplies and keep the peace. Unfortunately, that peace didn’t last forever. In 1610, there was a war between them and Pocahontas was kidnapped. While captive, she learned English and met a man named John Rolfe. Eventually she married him, which brought some peace in the land. After a life of promoting peace between her …

A Combined Approach For Private Indexing Mechanism, Pranita Maruti Desai Ms., Vijay Maruti Shelake Mr. Mar 2022

A Combined Approach For Private Indexing Mechanism, Pranita Maruti Desai Ms., Vijay Maruti Shelake Mr.

Journal of Digital Forensics, Security and Law

Private indexing is a set of approaches for analyzing research data that are similar or resemble similar ones. This is used in the database to keep track of the keys and their values. The main subject of this research is private indexing in record linkage to secure the data. Because unique personal identification numbers or social security numbers are not accessible in most countries or databases, data linkage is limited to attributes such as date of birth and names to distinguish between the number of records and the real-life entities they represent. For security reasons, the encryption of these identifiers …

Proposal To Use An Obstructed Timed “Up & Go” Test To Assess The Risk Of Falling In Healthy Elderly Individuals, Masanobu Uchiyama, Shinichi Demura

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: Obstacles are a common cause of falls. Mobility tests for healthy elderly that involve maneuvering over an obstacle have not been fully developed. We have shown that a small box placed on the walkway of a representative mobility test, the Timed Up & Go (TUG) for the frail elderly, influences the test performances of the healthy female elderly. However, the validity of this obstructed TUG (OTUG) as a fall risk assessment tool has not yet been clarified. This study examined the relationship between the OTUG and the fall risk for the healthy elderly. Material/Methods: 66 healthy community-dwelling elderly and …

Asset-Based Teaching Strategies For Elementary English Learners, Peyton Hecht

Graduate Teacher Education

Research studies were analyzed to find how English language learners (ELLs) brought unique skills, ideas, cultural experiences, and language into the classroom that could benefit all students. The assets ELL students brought into the classroom had a positive effect on the student’s education when educators recognized the strengths of students. Research exposed the deficit mindset that had inhabited education where ELL students were behind in academics because of lagged language skills (Genesee, Lindholm-Leary, Saunders, Christian, 2005). The scope of the researched proved that a deficit mindset in regard to ELL students did not lead to academic success. Instead, the studies …
