Parental Stress In Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, Jenny Do May 2022

Parental Stress In Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, Jenny Do

Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)

Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) is a multi-systemic genetic disorder with great clinical variability. As the needs of one child with TSC may vastly differ from another, parenting demands may similarly differ. Characterizing parental stress, or emotional maladaptation arising from parenting duties, can enable healthcare providers to assist parents of children most efficiently with TSC-related symptoms and improve both parent and child health outcomes. This study surveyed 269 parents of children (aged 0-12 years) with TSC and received the following information: children’s TSC clinical features, parent demographics, and a Parent Stress Index (PSI) score. Parents reported higher stress levels for children …

Prenatal Testing Decisions And Motivations In Pregnancies Conceived Via In Vitro Fertilization, Michelle Appel

Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)

Currently, there is limited information about how conceiving through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) impact the decisions individuals make about prenatal genetic testing. This quantitative study aimed to examine the prenatal testing decisions made by pregnant individuals who conceived via IVF as well as to compare the prenatal testing decisions and motivations between those who had PGT-A and those who did not. An anonymous survey was distributed through online support forums and in clinical settings to eligible individuals. Overall, 230 complete responses were collected with 203 participants far enough along in pregnancy to make …

An Investigation Of Social Ecological Barriers To And Facilitators Of Wic Farmers Market Nutrition Program Voucher Redemption, Renata Blumberg, Emily Fowler, Yeon Bai, Pankaj Lal, Alyssa Smolen, Ilana Dubrovsky

Department of Nutrition and Food Studies Scholarship and Creative Works

In the United States, many communities lack sufficient access to fresh produce. To improve access to fresh fruits and vegetables, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides eligible participants vouchers through the Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) that can be redeemed directly from farmers at markets or farm stands. However, FMNP voucher redemption rates in New Jersey remain lower than those in neighboring states. This article used the social ecological model to examine differences between FMNP participants who redeem vouchers (Redeemers) and those who do not (non-Redeemers) in the areas of: produce procurement practices and …

Aggregate Online Brand Name Pharmacy Price Dynamics For The United States And Mexico, Thomas M. Fullerton Jr., Steven L. Fullerton

Border Region Modeling Project

Virtual cross-border medical tourism allows many residents in the United States to purchase brand name medicines from companies in Mexico without travelling there. Monthly economic reports indicate that the online brand name pharmaceutical product prices in Mexico are noticeably lower than the corresponding internet prices in the United States. There have been very few econometric studies on how these prices are linked and the dynamic nature of those relationships. Results in this study indicate that online medicine prices in Mexico respond very rapidly to online prices changes in the high-price market.

Amlo And Huachicoleo: The Effects And Implications Of The Fuel Theft Crackdown In Mexico, Samuel Starr May 2022

Amlo And Huachicoleo: The Effects And Implications Of The Fuel Theft Crackdown In Mexico, Samuel Starr

Honors Theses

On December 20th, 2018—less than three weeks into new president Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s term—the Mexican federal government initiated a crackdown on fuel theft, or huachicoleo. The crackdown was intensive and nationwide. Its implementation was costly: gas stations throughout the country shut down as fuel pipelines were closed, the newly established National Guard was deployed to protect fuel infrastructure, and cartels threatened acts of terror against the government. The crackdown ended in April of 2019, with the López Obrador administration calling it a success. The overarching goal of this study is to test that assertion empirically by investigating the crackdown’s …

An Analysis Of Charging Practices And Their Impact On Battery Degradation In North American Electric Vehicles Built Between 2010-2020, Douglas William Edward Ferrier

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Electric vehicles (EVs) are emerging as a component of the global solution to combat climate change. However, in North America, particularly in the United States and Canada, the transition away from internal combustion engines (ICE) has been slow. North America faces unique challenges due to its geographical size and population in comparison to other continents. The good news is that EV adoption is increasing within North America. Along with increased EV adoption, governments and public companies are constructing charging infrastructure to support increased consumer EV purchases. Despite increased adoption, many future and current owners throughout North American society have concerns …

War And Reconstruction From An East Texas Perspective: Nacogdoches County From 1861-1876, William Wade Carter

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Initially founded in 1826 as a municipality of Mexico and organized as a county in 1837—and sharing its name with the oldest town in Texas—Nacogdoches County flourishes with a rich history and has been a factor in nearly every major event in early Texas history. The Civil War is no exception. Men from the county contributed to the war effort but also felt the war’s sting at home. Citizens did what they could to survive. The county continued under the yoke of Reconstruction after the war before booming again in the 1880s thanks largely to the town the county shares …

Deliberately Indifferent: Institutional Liability For Further Harassment In Student-On-Student Title Ix Cases, Jacob R. Goodman May 2022

Deliberately Indifferent: Institutional Liability For Further Harassment In Student-On-Student Title Ix Cases, Jacob R. Goodman

Vanderbilt Law Review

Sexual harassment is an unfortunate problem far too many have experienced. Universities and other educational institutions owe a duty, both legal and moral, to protect students from sexual harassment, and in turn to allow students to receive the full benefits of their education. But a circuit split has limited students' ability to hold educational institutions liable. This circuit split results in the absurd scenario where an individual must experience sexual harassment more than one time to hold their educational institution liable. This Note attempts to fix that by proposing Title IX (the law governing sexual harassment at educational institutions) adopt …

Political Socialization Of College-Age Individuals In The Age Of Social Media, Spencer G. Lowe

Communication Studies

This study used personal reflection, surveys, and interviews to study the political socialization of those that attend college. Previous research has shown that many facets of one’s life can affect their political socialization, such as their familial upbringing or religious ties, and that adolescence is a time in which many individuals go through a significant shift in their political and ethical views. However, a new influence—social media—has begun to greatly affect the political views and shifts of college-age individuals. After personal reflection upon the experiences that caused one such shift, a survey and a series of four interviews of those …

Developmental Kindergarten Classroom Intervention For Spatial Relational Terms, Maggie Eising, Courtney Karasinski May 2022

Developmental Kindergarten Classroom Intervention For Spatial Relational Terms, Maggie Eising, Courtney Karasinski

Open Access Publishing Support Funded Articles

Purpose

Relational ability is a key attribute of language. Knowledge of relational terms, including spatial terms, can facilitate development of relational ability. Acquisition of spatial terms can be challenging and necessitates experience and input due to the abstractness of the concepts. Service delivery models for school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are changing from traditional “pull-out” therapy to intervention in the classroom. Response to Intervention (RtI) and multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) frameworks have expanded SLPs’ roles to working with all children at-risk for academic difficulties.

Methods

Given the importance of spatial terms, and the changing roles and service delivery models for …

The Consent Of The Governed: Constitutionalism Of The Levellers And Its Influence On Anglo-American Political Discourse, Nathan B. Gilson May 2022

The Consent Of The Governed: Constitutionalism Of The Levellers And Its Influence On Anglo-American Political Discourse, Nathan B. Gilson

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

More fully understanding the Levellers suggests a new framework for understanding Anglo-American constitutionalism and jurisprudence. There was a logical progression in their constitutional thought, by which the exigent developments of the 1640s conflict continually pushed the Levellers to articulate new constitutional propositions. It eventually led them to a fully developed contractual theory for the origins of society based on the continuing consent of the People, including the rights to revolution and resistance, within a natural rights framework. The Levellers argued for limitations on the sovereignty of the government by the People, as opposed to the position of the Monarchists, Independents, …

Whence Faith? The Nexus Of Passional Reason, Christian Personalism, And Abduction In Apologetics, Thomas Jefferson Gentry Ii May 2022

Whence Faith? The Nexus Of Passional Reason, Christian Personalism, And Abduction In Apologetics, Thomas Jefferson Gentry Ii

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Motivated by a desire to understand better and articulate matters touching on how beliefs are formed, this research considers the possibility of a religious epistemological nexus, a connection between the rational and affective capacities possessed by persons, human dignity and self-determination, and the method of argumentation used by apologists. The thesis defended is that through the means of the concomitance of the human intellect, emotions, and will (passional reason), the whole person is engaged in the process of passional reason whereby one can perceive, assess, and decide to believe in matters of religious faith (Thomistic doxastic voluntarism). Further, at the …

Cognitive Correlates Of Storytelling In Severe Tbi, Serena Mae Jaskolka

Master's Theses and Capstones

Introduction: Difficulties with narrative discourse, executive functions, declarative memory, and pragmatic function are pervasive in adults with TBI. As narrative discourse (e.g., storytelling) plays a significant role in social contexts, these difficulties have broad reaching impacts on everyday interactions. Existing research in adults with TBI does not address cognitive correlates of story length, completeness, or elaboration within a story grammar framework, which is a structure for organizing the content of stories. A better understanding of these relationships will allow for more effective evaluation and treatment for this population. Methods: Transcripts from Cinderella stories of 48 participants with severe TBI were …
