Artificial Intelligence Chatbot As A Mathematics Curriculum Developer: Discovering Preservice Teachers’ Overconfidence In Chatgpt, Amanda G. Sawyer

International Journal on Responsibility

Instructors in many colleges and universities are responsible for supporting their preservice teachers’ understanding of mathematics curriculum to best serve elementary students’ needs. As such, preservice teachers are taught how to critically analyze curriculum materials. However, with the advent of technologies like ChatGPT, preservice teachers are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) tools in new ways to collate and construct mathematical curricula. As of now, little is known about how to adapt these new resources for the classroom. ChatGPT, an AI chatbot, can create a mathematics curriculum based on user questions, which teachers can then adapt to their classrooms. Although this AI …

From Naked And Ashamed To Clothed And Guilt-Ridden: Augustine Of Hippo And Poor Things (2023) In Dialogue With Genesis 1-3, Jack Jones

Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium

As biblical interpreters have tried to rationalize the (in)famous fall of humanity in Genesis 2, they often consolidate blame to the woman, Eve. Specifically, Augustine of Hippo’s City of God portrays Eve in a purposefully negative light to fortify patriarchal domination. In this presentation, I will discuss how certain approaches to the interpretation of Genesis, specifically, "the fall", construct what Bernard Williams denotes as a culture of guilt, particularly in relation to women and feminine sexuality. Accordingly, I will also evaluate how the 2023 film Poor Things, posits parallels and subversion to scrutinize these insisted gender ontologies.

The Work Of Creating A Digital Archive Database On Eating Disorders: An Intern’S Experience, Andrew Ms Zero

Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium

This presentation will describe the experience of working on an in-progress digital archival database of primary sources related to eating disorders and other related issues and their role in how eating disorders are discussed. Over the course of the Fall semester, I worked on metadata creation for hundreds of different types of sources. This process of source metadata creation involved thorough reading in order to accurately create specific metadata, even when the content would be extremely disturbing, and determine what would be best to make these sources most accessible through specified “tags”. This type of work improved my technical and …

“It Was Like A Dream”: War Pilgrimages In The Canadian War Museum’S Collections, Michael Petrou

Canadian Military History

This article uses material culture and oral histories held by the Canadian War Museum to explore war-related pilgrimages undertaken by veterans and their loved ones. The artwork, scrapbooks, mementos and recorded interviews reveal how meaningful pilgrimages can be for their participants. These are emotional or spiritual journeys as much as they are temporal ones. A pilgrim travels to a liminal space where the past appears closer and the dead are not beyond the reach of the living, and is transformed by it.

Cet article utilise la matérielle ethnographique et les histoires orales détenues par le Musée canadien de la guerre …

Canadian Military History

In March 2024 the Minister of National Defence characterised the Canadian Armed Forces’ (CAF) inability to attract new members as a “death spiral” for the force. While the latest defence policy update, Our North, Strong and Free: A Renewed Vision for Canada’s Defence, recognises the seriousness of the CAF’s personnel crisis, it provides no concrete actions to solve it. However, this defence policy update is just the latest in a series of actions used by the CAF to manage perceptions of its personnel problems rather than addressing their root causes. This article examines the latest defence policy in the …

Drawing upon research that evidences the superior performance of diverse teams in creativity and innovation, the paper argues for the integration of neurodiversity into AI development as a means to address the philosophy of 'fearing the Other,' thereby mitigating biases and fostering ethical AI interactions. The technology sector's adoption of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, including biopsychosocial interventions and …

Thriving In An Ai-Dominated World: Why Higher Education Must Produce Graduates Who Are Uniquely Human And Technically Competent, Chris Mayer

International Journal of Emerging and Disruptive Innovation in Education : VISIONARIUM

To meet the demands of students and broader society, and to prepare students for a world that is increasingly reliant on artificial intelligence (AI) and other forms of technology, many higher education institutions (HEI) are cutting liberal arts programs and focusing on professional fields and fields related to technology. This focus, however, is undermining students’ employability and not addressing employer demand for applicants who possess the human skills that students develop by studying the liberal arts. This does not mean that technology-related skills should be neglected as employers are also signaling the importance of AI-related skills, and digital skills more …

Rapid Estimate Of Adult Literacy In Medicine (Realm) Is Associated With Congestive Heart Failure (Chf) Discharge Summary Comprehension, But Not Readmission, Ann Schindler, Danielle Baek, Shoshana Weiner

Journal of Health Research

Background: Inadequate health literacy has been associated with an increased risk of hospital readmissions in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). This may be related to patients’ ability to understand discharge instructions. We evaluated associations of health literacy to discharge summary comprehension and the occurrence of 30-day CHF readmissions.

Methods: A cross-sectional study of 46 patients admitted to the University of Maryland Medical Center was conducted in 2019 and 2021. Health literacy was determined by Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Medicine (REALM) scores. Discharge summary comprehension was determined by the number of correct answers to a 10-item …
