For leaders, finding a recipe for success in building a cohesive virtual team in a post-pandemic world may be a struggle. With the outbreak of COVID-19, many organizations have seen growth in their virtual presence. Virtual teams bring greater diversity and the challenge of operating in remote locations rather than face-to-face settings. Finding practices leaders can use to build cohesiveness in their virtual teams can help them adapt to this changing environment. The purpose of this study was for Fortune 500 leaders of virtual teams to identify practices they used to build cohesiveness in their team. Building cohesiveness is important …
Employee Experiences With Leaders’ Influence On Autonomous Motivation: A Mixed Methods Study, Melissa Wheat
Employee Experiences With Leaders’ Influence On Autonomous Motivation: A Mixed Methods Study, Melissa Wheat
Dissertations
Organizational performance and success require employee motivation (Delaney & Royal, 2017; Devarapalli & Hinkes, 2016; Good et al., 2022; Howard et al., 2016; Mohamud et al., 2017; Olafsen et al., 2018; Ryan & Deci, 2017; Van den Broeck et al., 2021; Wiley, 1997). However, organizational leaders fail to effectively motivate employees to engage in the workplace and achieve high performance (Delaney & Royal, 2017; Fisher, 2009; Good et al., 2022; J. D. Jensen, 2018; Pappas, 2021; Webb, 2007; Workers Are Motivated by Different Drivers and Needs, 2022). This study explored employee experiences with leaders’ influence on autonomous motivation to …
Virtue-Driven Leadership: Powering Excellence In Organizations, Joseph Scherrer
Virtue-Driven Leadership: Powering Excellence In Organizations, Joseph Scherrer
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
In this thesis, I seek to answer the question “What makes a good leader?” I approach this question systematically, starting in Chapter 1 by asking “What is Leadership?” In attempting to formulate a response, I find that the concept is slipperier than it first appears and difficult to pin down. All the same, I construct a thematic, contextually pertinent definition that provides reasonable precision for the purposes of this study. In Chapter 2, I present a representative survey of the social-scientific academic literature in order to establish the prospect that a philosophy of virtuous leadership can be empirically validated in …

STUDY QUESTION: Does the transfer of single low-grade blastocysts result in acceptable reproductive and perinatal outcomes compared to the transfer of single good-grade blastocysts? SUMMARY ANSWER: The transfer of single low-grade blastocysts resulted in a reduced live birth rate of around 30% (14% for very low-grade blastocysts) compared to 44% for single good-grade blastocysts, but does not lead to more adverse perinatal outcomes. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: It is known that low-grade blastocysts can result in live births. However, the current studies are limited by relatively small sample sizes and single-centre designs. Furthermore, evidence on perinatal outcomes after transferring low-grade …

Transgender And Gender Non-Conforming Leaders And Leadership: A Foundational And Integrative Review, Galen J. Talis
Transgender And Gender Non-Conforming Leaders And Leadership: A Foundational And Integrative Review, Galen J. Talis
Libraries
Gender and leadership research has traditionally employed a binary framework, overlooking the experiences of transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) leaders and forcing leaders of all genders and intersectional identities into a dichotomous frame. This paper reviewed interdisciplinary literature using a robust search strategy in three academic databases and Google Scholar, as well as across eight leadership studies journals. Sixteen sources involving 440 leaders’ experiences were found. The author conducted a thematic analysis to explore how TGNC leaders’ experiences challenge and advance leadership theories, deepen understanding of discrimination, and offer ways to support their emergence and success. TGNC leaders’ experiences bring …

"Alarming headlines referencing catastrophe and our perilous proximity to a tipping point from which we cannot return create a common refrain when it comes to climate change: the time to act is now—or has already passed—and if we do not reorient ourselves and our relationship to the world immediately, we are doomed. The urgency of the climate crisis is real, and with it comes a need to reckon with the deeply rooted systems and structures that have created this and other interdependent complex global challenges. However, our demise is not a foregone conclusion. Despite the doomsday headlines so common to …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Startups play a vital role in employment opportunities, creating new markets, and economic developments in a nation. However, several challenges, such as financial and scalability factors, confront startups at the initial stages because of the highly uncertain startup business environment. Recent research has confirmed that the development of startups is indeed connected to leadership. A literature review revealed that entrepreneurial leadership, as opposed to mainstream leadership theories, is more suitable to explain the complex leadership process in startup growth and development. A qualitative, single case study was conducted to investigate the leadership characteristics of successful startup founders to explain the …

This transcendental phenomenological study sought to understand and describe teachers’ lived experiences with cultural diversity in middle school and high schools using cross-cultural dimensions as lenses. A social constructivist research paradigm derived from Lev Vygotsky’s social constructivism theory urged this study’s theoretical framework. The approach of cross-cultural dimension from Geert Hofstede was applied as a lens to investigate the participants’ views about their experience with cultural diversity. Teachers from middle school and high schools participated in the research. The participants were from different social backgrounds, races, lifestyles, countries, and organizations, which made each answer unique regarding cultural diversity and cross-cultural …
A Help Or Hindrance? Team Leader Behaviors And The Team Climate Of Innovation, Matthew Brady Johnson
A Help Or Hindrance? Team Leader Behaviors And The Team Climate Of Innovation, Matthew Brady Johnson
Theses and Dissertations
While the nature of teamwork in organizations is ever-evolving, the utilization of teams in some form has continued to increase over the past several decades. While creativity is generally regarded as an individual-level phenomenon, innovation tends to occur as an emergent process at the team level, so rather than only hiring and rewarding star performers, organizations should cultivate and protect the team’s climate for innovation. A particularly impactful contextual factor in team climate is the team leader’s behavior. Therefore, the team leader’s contribution to the climate should work to promote innovation rather than discourage it. A cross-sectional, correlational study surveyed …
Understanding Administrators' Perceptions Of Gifted Ell Students, Abigail Eaton
Understanding Administrators' Perceptions Of Gifted Ell Students, Abigail Eaton
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Students with gifts and talents are identified in school districts across the nation. However, there is severe underrepresentation of minority groups in gifted education programs, specifically students with ELL backgrounds. This issue is important because students from diverse backgrounds are the fastest growing group of the K-12 population. If the issue is not addressed, many talents will be overlooked and underdeveloped (Peters & Engerrand, 2016). The purpose of this study was to analyze administrators’ perceptions of gifted ELL students.
Participants in this study include six administrators from a small, rural district in Southcentral Kentucky. All of the administrators participated in …

Establishing Connectivity And Trust In High Schools During Covid-19, Lisa De Leon, Matthew D. Wilkens
The Scholarship Without Borders Journal
Although meta-leadership was originally a framework used to examine healthcare leadership in crisis, it is also a valuable framework for educational leadership. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused school leaders to endure a crucible of fire in every area, such as balancing children’s safety with losses to education quality. The action plans of educators are frequently in flux as the pandemic evolves and unfolds. The continuation of this crisis has led to uncertainty, and at times, chaos.
This study examines how meta-leadership, with emphasis on connectivity, has been applied by educational leadership in American high schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. 2020 …

We systematically searched four databases up to March 2022 and clinical trials registries to May 2022 to identify randomised controlled trials of …
Best Bible Study Methods For Discipleship Formation: How Bible Study As A Spiritual Discipline Shapes Believers, Sandy Chery
Best Bible Study Methods For Discipleship Formation: How Bible Study As A Spiritual Discipline Shapes Believers, Sandy Chery
Master of Divinity (MDiv)
Because the Christian faith depends upon Christ's life, teachings, death, and resurrection, believers should strive to become more like Him daily. In this regard, the late theologian C.S. Lewis would argue that every Christian should become a “little Christ.” According to research conducted by Barna Research Group, four of five Christians list personal spiritual development and having a deep commitment to Christ as a priority. However, only one in five Christians is involved in any spiritual development activities outside of attending church services. Thus, few Christians are actually investing energy into their spiritual growth. Discipleship formation, known interchangeably as spiritual …

A Comparative Analysis Of Values-Based Leadership Theories: A Review And Future Research Agenda, Simon Tareke Abay, Jorge F. S. Gomes, Abeba Beyene Mengistu
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
This paper systematically reviews the literature on values-based leadership (VBL) theories by analyzing 161 studies published in different peer-review journals from 2000 to 2022. The study first identified the literature on VBL and found that terms “values-oriented, values-centered, or value-based” leadership are used interchangeably as a roof term for various theories focusing on the moral, authentic, principled, and ethical dimension of leadership. The literature on leadership offers different types of leadership theories that constitute VBL, but we focused on six leadership theories that are widely cited as forms of VBL and have a strong theoretical background. This was followed by …

Cochise: A Re-Imagination, Arthur Scott
Faculty Authored Books and Book Contributions
This is a fictionalized work that looks at Cochise’s life, through a series of imagined scenarios. My intention in writing this was to provide an intimate venue by which he not only comes alive as an extraordinary warrior and sage archetype, but as a human being who struggled with doubt, loss, and fear. Leadership, honesty, and honor are important themes that Cochise’s life exemplified. Though soft spoken, he imparted volumes on leadership to his people and enemies through his spiritual, emotional, and physical presence.
