A Gis Methodology For Assessing The Growth Impacts Of Highway Improvements, Thomas W. Sanchez, Kenneth Dueker
A Gis Methodology For Assessing The Growth Impacts Of Highway Improvements, Thomas W. Sanchez, Kenneth Dueker
Center for Urban Studies Publications and Reports
This paper presents a methodology to assess the induced land use effects of state highway improvements on urban development patterns. The methodology is applied to the case study City of Hillsboro, Oregon and illustrates a framework for data management and analysis. A set of temporal land use characteristics and spatial measures are used as predictors of urban development activities resulting from highway accessibility improvements. A multiple regression analysis tests the significance of these variables in predicting rates and locations of urban development. The primary objective of this research is to identify the relationship between capacity increasing highway improvements and changes …

The Effectiveness Of Traditional Instructional Methods In An Online Learning Environment, Steven Bradford Smith
The Effectiveness Of Traditional Instructional Methods In An Online Learning Environment, Steven Bradford Smith
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
For more than a century, the most predominant form of instruction in higher education has been classroom-based and instructor-led. Today, this traditional approach to learning is being challenged by new technologies such as multimedia, telecommunications, and the Internet. It has been suggested that the effectiveness of traditional pedagogical methods in alternative learning environments may be resolved through the creation of a new domain for educational interaction referred to as online education (Harasim, 1990); There has been much research focused on the advantages of teaching university courses online (Davis, Odell, Abbitt, Amos, 1999; Hiltz, 1994; Harasim, 1990). However, there is little …

Curriculum For A Course In Introductory Digital Darkroom, Richard Paul Finner
Theses Digitization Project
The objective of this project was to develop a curriculum for a course in Introductory Digital Darkroom. This curriculum will be used to replace existing curriculum in the Camera, Stripping and Platemaking course taught in The Graphics Technology Department of Riverside Community College (RCC), Riverside, California. In order to provide students with technologically advanced, marketable skills, the course must be revised to include computerized electronic prepress techniques.

The Rochester Institute Of Technology: An Interactive Computer Disk, Lim Hee-Kyung
The Rochester Institute Of Technology: An Interactive Computer Disk, Lim Hee-Kyung
Theses
The nature of this thesis is to explore the possibilities of interactive animation. An animated, interactive program which shows various activities and programs of the Rochester Institute of Technology, (R.I.T.), is the finished product. R.I.T's history, upstate New York location, and academic philosophies are incorporated. The interactive disk contains information about the various programs the college offers, as well as, many examples of actual student work. It also shows these students creating their projects. In their own words, they tell about their lives at R.I.T., both in and out of the classroom. Faculty and staff also offer their views, lending …

Digital Graphic Equalizer System, Michael C. Subrt
Digital Graphic Equalizer System, Michael C. Subrt
Honors Capstones
This senior design (capstone) project is an implementation of an audio graphic equalizer using digital electronic components. The goal of this project is to design and develop a lO-band Digital Graphic Equalizer System. The purpose of this project is to control the frequency characteristics of an electronic audio signal. The operation of the Digital Graphic Equalizer System is controlled by and designed around the Motorola DSP56001 digital signal processor which is a microprocessor that can be used for signal filtering applications. The hardware and the software for this project were designed and developed separately and then combined to form the …
Color Transformation Modeling For Printed Images Using Interpolation Based On Barycentric Coordinates, K. Douglas Gennetten
Color Transformation Modeling For Printed Images Using Interpolation Based On Barycentric Coordinates, K. Douglas Gennetten
Theses
This document is a report on the research of a potentially superior method of color image transformation for producing rapid and accurate printed color output from a digitized color image. The primary objective is to reduce the complexities, inaccuracies, objectionable artifacts, and processing time common to current methods of color modeling. A new method of vector-corrected mathematical modeling combined with improved color space interpolation is studied. This achievement allows for rapid automatic closed-loop color-match calibration between image capture and output devices. Currently, digital image creation or manipulation systems rely on image proof printing which is slow and often of poor …
Image Quality Analysis Of The Reproductions Of Black And White Photographs Obtained From A Desktop Publishing System, Manuel Fabián Ruiz-Laverde
Image Quality Analysis Of The Reproductions Of Black And White Photographs Obtained From A Desktop Publishing System, Manuel Fabián Ruiz-Laverde
Theses
This research project was directed to characterize the variables that govern the black and white reproduction process in a desktop publishing enviroment (DTP), which in this case is formed by: a Macintosh II computer, a Mycrotek 300A scanner as the inputing device and a LaserWriter as the outputting device. The specific goal of this research was to find the ideal settings of cell size and resolution for each type of black and white photographic image that would produce the best reproduction possible from the system. Two different experiments were performed, the first one using a gray scale and a resolution …

Micro Cad/Cam System Selection And Implementation, Christian Georg Haas
Theses
The rapid growth of the computer market in the last four decades causes difficulties in evaluating the various systems and configurations of this complex market.
This thesis focuses on graphics capable microcomputers in the computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) field. The thesis emphasizes the technical possibilities such a system offers in terms of hardware, software and applications. Each hardware and software component is detailed to give a new-comer the opportunity to update him or herself in this high technology field. Technical information, as well as installation and implementation are described. Also, provided are lists of several …
Investigation Of The Characteristics Of The Kerf And The Surface Generated In The Course Of Cutting Titanium With Abrasive Waterjets, Ajay Vora
Theses
The effect of cutting parameters on the quality of cut in the course of cutting Titanium (Gr.2) with Abrasive Waterjet is investigated. The cutting parameters include nozzle traverse rate, size and feed rate of abrasives and nozzle(s) diameter. The width of kerf (top and bottom ), taper and roughness is studied. The measurements are tabulated and plots are made to study the trend and relationship for each set of parameters.
The qualitative conclusions are made successfully but no quantitative relationship was derived. Suggestions are made for the evaluation of technology for feasibility and economic justification, and to achieve desired cutting …
Research And Applications Of Expert Systems In Military Training, Philip Irwin Green
Research And Applications Of Expert Systems In Military Training, Philip Irwin Green
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This report surveys recent research and applications of Expert Systems in the military training and simulation community. The report reviews twenty-one recent papers covering this subject. Each paper reviewed has been assigned a class which establishes the phase of development of the system or activities described. For each paper the abstract is given, followed by comments which summarize in more detail significant parameters of the activities reported. This is then followed by a listing of the specific Expert System "areas of interest" described in the paper.
