Sociocultural Impediments To The Economic Empowerment Of Women: An Analysis Of The Toy Industry In Etikoppaka, Balireddy M. N. Teja, Moksha Singh
Journal of International Women's Studies
Research indicates that women’s involvement in income generation does not always result in gender equality or empowerment. With this understanding in mind, this qualitative study delves into the socioeconomic changes created by the highly regarded toy industry in Etikoppaka village in India, which predominantly relies on women’s labor. Exploratory research was designed to gather information from forty primary respondents who are women actively employed in the industry. We applied Hakim’s preference theory and Malhotra’s model of empowerment to construct comparison criteria for theoretical underpinning. The study’s outcomes reveal that a significant number of women in the village are employed in …
Impact Of Artistry - Surrealism In The Urban Setting, Caroline F. Puckett
Impact Of Artistry - Surrealism In The Urban Setting, Caroline F. Puckett
Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year
In the past, architectural designs have mimicked those of traditional art trends but over time architecture has moved away from its roots and created its own styles and design language. While architecture’s creation of its own path has led to several innovations in the thought process of design,it does create cause for concern about architecture losing the identity it once had. Architecture has evolved from what was once a field that looked at the physical artistic expression of art and into a discipline more focused on performance and utility. As the built environment loses its soul and foundation, many communities …
Fertility Transition In West Africa, Samuel Agyei-Mensah
Fertility Transition In West Africa, Samuel Agyei-Mensah
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper examines the fertility transition in West Africa against the background of recent declines in fertility in Sub-Saharan Africa. Two major questions are addressed: First, what is the status of the West African fertility transition at the end of the 20th century? Second, what are the facilitators of the West African fertility transition? Using data from Demographic and Health Surveys as well as localized studies the paper provides insights into the historical pattern of the West African fertility transition. It attempts to push the interpretation of the West African fertility transition into new theoretical directions by highlighting the importance …
Fertility Decline And Family Changes In Sub-Saharan Africa, Therese Locoh
Fertility Decline And Family Changes In Sub-Saharan Africa, Therese Locoh
Journal of African Policy Studies
Sub-Saharan Africa has until recently been considered a continent of steady high fertility levels. However, a consistent effort in new statistical surveys has produced a substantial body of data indicating that the continent is now entering the fertility transition stage at various paths depending on the countries, and that the transition is occurring more rapidly among the urban than rural population in each country. This paper examines the impact of these changes on nuptiality patterns, intergenerational relations, gender relations and empowerment of women. It reveals certain trends in the African family: Traditional family norms are challenged, and new types of …

Climbing And Crossing Career Ladders: An Analysis Of Job Mobility Trends, Leon Nguyen
Climbing And Crossing Career Ladders: An Analysis Of Job Mobility Trends, Leon Nguyen
Honors Scholar Theses
As the job market experiences turbulence, understanding how different people progress in their career trajectories can aid in understanding why certain professional disparities exist between demographics. Studying job mobility in the United States is critical to understanding patterns that could be indicative of systemic behaviors. Prior literature has focused on job mobility based on income, industry, and/or older data. We focus on encoding job mobility patterns of Indian immigrants in the U.S. labor force using webscraped LinkedIn data from 2019 and measuring various job changes through mapping job titles to a five-point scale and comparing string values. We also utilize …

Honors Theses
As senior biomedical engineering students at the University of Mississippi, we began our academic year brainstorming unmet clinical needs in healthcare intending to provide an innovative solution. After conducting personal inventories, determining a mission, and evaluating internal and external factors, we established acceptance criteria for our strategic focus and clarified our needs statement: develop a prophylactic device for chronic musculoskeletal injuries (MSKIs) in active-duty servicewomen (ADSW). The average female soldier is at a disadvantage compared to her male counterpart due to anthropometric and physiological differences between men and women in most aspects of physical performance (Epstein et al. 2673). These …
Assessing The Impact Of Internal Flow Dynamics On Detection Region Concentrations Of Low-Cost Optical Particle Counters, Livingstone Quarshie
Assessing The Impact Of Internal Flow Dynamics On Detection Region Concentrations Of Low-Cost Optical Particle Counters, Livingstone Quarshie
Theses and Dissertations
Particulate matter (PM) poses significant risks to human health and the environment, making accurate measurement essential for exposure assessment and regulatory decisions. While traditional reference methods provide reliable data, they are often bulky, expensive, and difficult to maintain. Optical Particle Counters (OPCs) offer a cost-effective alternative, commonly used in clean rooms, residential spaces, and personal exposure monitoring. These devices rely on light scattering to measure PM concentrations. However, low cost OPCs face challenges related to calibration and measurement accuracy, requiring careful performance evaluation. This study used computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools, CONVERGE Studio and ANSYS Fluent, to simulate a simplified …

Demography And Habitat Associations Of The Basalt Cactus Pediocactus Nigrispinus, Zarha S. Dillon-Zuppelli, Mary E. Poulson, Eric A. Graham
Biology Faculty Scholarship
Cacti are iconic members of arid ecosystems. Pediocactus nigrispinus is a species of cactus endemic to the Pacific Northwest and has been listed as a sensitive species due to its vulnerability to habitat loss. Best conservation methods for this species are poorly understood, due in part to a limited understanding of its demography and habitat associations that may help define its occurrence. A demographic study from four plots in Washington State was implemented in 2016 to provide a baseline of the population dynamics for P. nigrispinus and to enhance conservation efforts for this sensitive species. Five years of size, fecundity, …
