Shakōki-dogū are prehistoric clay figurines from Japan’s Final Jōmon period, characterized by enlarged, goggle-eyed features. In both scholarship writing and museum display texts, generalized thematic labels or iconographic readings sometimes reduce the corpus’s internal variability. This study examines a focused set of Final Jōmon shakōki-dogū from northern Honshū (Tōhoku) and Hokkaidō (Figures 2–6) through their formal and material evidence—shape, surface treatment, and condition—read alongside published excavation reports and catalogue records. Contagious Discrimination: Why Race-Blind Justice In Courtrooms Is Not Enough, Yijia Lu, Murat C. Mungan

Existing theories of discrimination focus on discrimination at the individual, societal, or organizational level. We highlight the importance of the dynamic relationship between different institutional actors who jointly give rise to discriminatory outcomes. This reveals that discrimination can be contagious: discrimination that would otherwise not occur at one institutional level can arise due to discrimination at another institutional level. Therefore, discrimination by some actors can trickle down and create disparate impacts in processes that would otherwise be free of discrimination. This phenomenon, which we term “contagious discrimination,” can manifest itself in various settings such as employment and commercial trade negotiations. …

Digital marketing shapes each moment of the contemporary travel journey, yet limited evidence still obscures how individual tactics foster purchase decisions. This conceptual study will develop an integrative framework that integrates four core touch-points, including social media marketing, email marketing, search engine marketing, and online reviews on travellers’ purchase intentions, positing brand trust as the central psychological mechanism. Guided by the Stimulus-Organism-Response theory, thirteen propositions will specify both the direct effects of each touch-point on trust and purchase intention, and trust as a mediator role. Film is an effective medium for conveying moral messages and national values to society. This study aims to analyze public perception of the nationalism-themed film Merah Putih: One for All through netizen comments on social media. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis. Data were collected from comments on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and X (Twitter) during the initial release period of the film. The analysis focuses on how audiences interpret values of nationalism, unity, and the relevance of the film’s message within contemporary social contexts. This paper provides a comparative analysis of the embryonic Surrealism of two well-known figures of the era: Jamil Hamoudi, an Iraqi surrealist artist, and Aminullah Rezaei, an Iranian surrealist artist. The results found that Surrealism in Iraq associated itself with cultural identity and sacred symbolism, unveiling Hamoudi as the merger of geometry, calligraphy, and warm colours, towards reshaping the collective unconscious and reformulating Eastern spirituality in a modernist fashion. The population of single women, though still a minority in Indonesian society, has seen a significant increase in the last decade. This demographic trend is often attributed to shifts in lifestyle and higher levels of women’s education. This study analyzes the perspectives of unmarried women, focusing on the factors contributing to singlehood within the Bugis culture in Indonesia. Utilizing a qualitative phenomenological approach, this research involved seventeen single women aged thirty-five to fifty, which is beyond the average marriage age in Bugis culture. Documented individuals who do not live in conflict zones can usually access and use their records to migrate, begin new careers, enroll their children in educational institutions, and gain access to healthcare through mostly routine record-related procedures. However, these standard processes become impossible obstacles for refugees when they lose access to their personal records as part of their forced displacement. CaMoO4:Eu3+-functionalized hydroxyapatite–silica (HAp–SiO2–CaMoO4:Eu3+) core–shell nanocomposites were synthesized for the first time and evaluated as a multifunctional drug delivery and imaging platform. HAp–SiO2 nanocomposites were prepared via a hydrothermal route and subsequently functionalized with a luminescent CaMoO4:Eu3+ shell using the Pechini sol–gel method. Structural analyses confirmed the successful coexistence of HAp, SiO2, and CaMoO4:Eu3+ phases, while electron microscopy revealed spherical core–shell morphologies. Dynamic light scattering measurements showed average hydrodynamic particle sizes of approximately 1085 nm for HAp–SiO2 and 1427 nm for HAp–SiO2–CaMoO4:Eu3+ nanocomposites, indicating particle clustering in aqueous media, which is consistent with the low surface charge of the particles. QC integrates organizational, managerial, and psychological elements that shape how quality is understood and improved in HEIs. This study explores how leaders at the departmental and faculty levels navigate and contribute to quality culture development (QCD).

This paper examines the Monas diorama as a central apparatus in Indonesia’s politics of remembering, whose narrative consolidation during the New Order rendered it a state-authored monument of national memory. Drawing on Foucault’s distinction between monument and document, Ferraris’s ontology of documentality, and Perret’s concept of document design as projective epistemology, the study reframes the diorama as a documentary assemblage shaped by inscription, power, and institutionalized forgetting. South Africa has a high rate of HIV, with young women in Durban especially affected due to social, economic, and cultural challenges. This study looks at the experiences of young women living with HIV and the views of healthcare professionals caring for them in KwaZulu-Natal. Using a qualitative, phenomenological approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with five women and three medical professionals to explore how HIV affects their lives, the challenges they face, and how they cope.

Obesity is a growing public health concern in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, yet limited research has explored how gut microbiota varies between Arab populations. This study compared the gut microbiota composition and diversity of Emirati and Lebanese adults with obesity and assessed the role of age and nationality in shaping microbial variation. A total of 43 Emirati and 30 Lebanese individuals with obesity (body mass index (BMI) ≥35 kg/m2) were recruited. This article introduces askancing as an epistemic strategy for the Global South to challenge the Global North’s construction of the Global South’s alterity. Askancing is a neologism we propose by engaging with Jacques Lacan’s speculations on the gaze as it pertains to the construction of “the other.” We argue that this strategy of askancing might already be implicit in postcolonial theories, from the notion of the subaltern, through “decoloniality,” to “ecologies of knowledge.” Central to askancing—and contrary to the decolonial call for an epistemic break with modernity—we agree with Dipesh Chakrabarty’s assertion that modernity’s rational discourse is both “indispensable and …
