Spect-actor: A Journal of Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed

This is a short article introducing the Wildcard Workbook, and the journey we took to translate our understanding of the core ethics of Theatre of the Oppressed into a resource for all kinds of facilitators. In our years of practice, we wished for a book we couldn’t yet find: a truly accessible, visual, and interactive guide that could prepare us to work with a community in real-time. That was the spark for the book, and the values of the project grew from there. In this essay, we reflect on our collaboration process, and on the ways this book may be …

Spect-actor: A Journal of Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed
This review was originally written as a review exercise for the Latin American Theater course, offered by the Performing Arts College at Paulista University (UNESP) in 2022, and taught by professors Patricia Freitas and Paula Autran. Based on some topics presented in class, the author unravels the Brazilian play Ponto de Fuga in its dramaturgy and creation process, while discussing the successive erasure of the history and memory of colonized peoples, more specifically in Latin America. It also stirs up reflections on the self-identification of Brazilians as Latinos. The review aims to bring into debate the relations of oppression and …

Apresentando A Pedagogia Hānai: Um Chamado Para A Equidade Na Educação Através Das Lentes Da Aanapi, Robin Brandehoff
Spect-actor: A Journal of Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed

Oncogenic KRASG12D (KRAS∗) is critical for the initiation and maintenance of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and is a known repressor of tumor immunity. Conditional elimination of KRAS∗ in genetic mouse models of PDAC leads to the reactivation of FAS, CD8+ T cell-mediated apoptosis, and complete eradication of tumors. KRAS∗ elimination recruits activated CD4+ and CD8+ T cells and promotes the activation of antigen-presenting cells. Mechanistically, KRAS∗-mediated immune evasion involves the epigenetic regulation of Fas death receptor in cancer cells, via methylation of its promoter region. Furthermore, analysis of human RNA sequencing identifies that high KRAS expression in PDAC tumors shows …

Partnering Educational Leadership And Preservice Teacher Candidates To Conduct Virtual Classroom Observations Via A Practitioner-Based Mentor-Teacher Candidate Model, Juliann Sergi Mcbrayer, Regina Rahimi
School Leadership Review
This research proposes a new model for Educational Leadership and Teacher Preparation Programs through a “Practitioner-Based Mentor-Teacher Candidate Model”, which is intended to be beneficial to both the aspiring school leader as the evaluator and mentor and the preservice teacher as the recipient of the feedback. With the shift to virtual and hybrid learning during the recent global health pandemic, methods to classroom observational-based supervision were challenged to adapt appropriately. Through a partnership of leadership and teacher preparation programs, the implementation of virtual classroom observations, including post-conferencing to encourage authentic and reflective feedback is proposed to provide evidence-based strategies for …

Ambiguous Identities: Gesturing Towards An Intersectional Conception Of Freedom, Shaun Soman
Ambiguous Identities: Gesturing Towards An Intersectional Conception Of Freedom, Shaun Soman
sprinkle: an undergraduate journal of feminist and queer studies
Writing in The Ethics of Ambiguity (1948), existential philosopher and feminist theorist Simone de Beauvoir declared that each individual’s freedom depends upon that of others. This claim was meant to motivate others to not remain complicit in the oppression of others; however, when considering the xenophobic rhetoric within Western feminists’ rhetoric about “liberating” Muslim women, one realizes that this demand warrants further scrutiny. In this paper, I apply Alia Al-Saji’s work on Western feminists’ approaches to liberating “other” women to de Beauvoir’s “we” in order to strengthen this latter concept. Overall, my aim with this work is to demonstrate that …

La Negra Tiene Tumbao: Multimodal Resistance Strategies Of Afro-Latinxs And Other Queer Constructions, Kassandra Colón Cisneros
sprinkle: an undergraduate journal of feminist and queer studies
The importance of sound in Afro- diasporic communities hearkens back to the slave cry on the plantation field, a sound that showed there is social life within social death. These survival and resistance strategies still exist today, and are not limited to music; they can also be traced through aesthetics, as well as routes and history that connect Afro-Latinxs to the diaspora. The deployment of diasporic resistance through what Juan Flores calls “baggage,” show the possibility and radical potential for survival in white spaces. Recognizing the necessity to dismantle white heteronormative spaces, my research will analyze how Afro-Latinxs—especially those who …

Weaving The Threads Between: Collaborative Auto-Ethnographic Reflections On Experiences Of Migrant Learning And Teaching In Australia, Paul Throssell Dr, Jinjin Lu Dr
The Qualitative Report
This article aims to use the two authors’ life experience, as English teachers, and university academics in the U.K., China and Australia, to improve an understanding how life trajectories can assist exploration of cultural difference and changes. Our experiences can be utilized as a means of understanding how responses to change and cultural differences can be influenced. Using a collaborative auto-ethnography research method offers readers opportunities to engage with the text through encountering the cultural nuances in these transitional journeys. The analysis is undertaken through the theoretical lens of transformational learning, cultural identity, and space. This paper will be of …

The Role Of Cross-Cultural Adaptation In The Work Performance Of Chinese Expatriates In Japan, Xinxin Kong
The Role Of Cross-Cultural Adaptation In The Work Performance Of Chinese Expatriates In Japan, Xinxin Kong
Fordham Dissertations and Theses
The continuous development of the Chinese economy has made "going global" in overseas operations and cross-border collaborations a key internationalization strategy for many Chinese enterprises. Executives working abroad are required to adapt to new cultures and business practices while also addressing challenges such as the lack of international management talents, high employee turnover rates, and suboptimal expatriate performance. In the realm of international human resources selection and talent retention practices, how can decision-makers in multinational enterprises improve expatriate performance? How can they select employees who can better adapt to different cultures, enhance employee loyalty in cross-border situations, and …

The goal of this study was to examine how athletes holding privileged racial identities understand their whiteness as they engage in racial justice activism. Drawing from 12 semistructured interviews with white collegiate athletes who have engaged in activism for racial justice, we identified four higher order themes which we situate within a broader discussion of how each theme either reinforces or disrupts racial power: articulations of (a) racial consciousness, (b) white privilege, (c) white empathy, and (d) white accountability. While the white accountability theme has the potential to disrupt racial power due to its relying on rigorous self-critique, the remaining …
