ESTABLISHMENT OF THE AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE

IT IS here that we draw the dividing line and proceed with the history of the Agricultural College rather than that of the University. Having seen the University established with its integral college units, it is now fitting to devote our attention primarily to the College of Agriculture, with only such references to the University as occasion demands.

Culture Studies Of Psilocybe Coprophila, Katherine Gilmore

Proceedings of the Iowa Academy of Science

Psilocybe coprophila, Fr. has been investigated. It is found to be a heterothallic species producing two strains of primary rnycelium, the union of which is necessary to the production of a secondary mycelum with clamp connections, or of basidiocarps. The capacity for the formation of certain abnormalities of the pileus is inherent in some strains and transmitted from generation to generation.

A pure line of Hubbard squash was used for the investigation. In the development of the anther the pollen mother cells are formed from a single longitudinal row of cells of the primary sporogenous layer in each anther lobe. During early diakinesis a perinuclear zone is formed. From the perinuclear zone as well as from the interior of the nucleus fibers are formed which constitute the multipolar spindle. There are twenty bivalent chromosomes at the heterotypic division. Counts in root tip cell showed forty somatic chromosomes. During diakinesis a callose wall is secreted around the mother cell. The present study was undertaken to obtain more information regarding the pathogenicity of Fusarium eumartii and to compare its action with F. oxysporum, in order to distinguish between and to determine the relative importance of the diseases produced by these two organisms. An effort was also made to explain the many negative results of isolation studies reported by various investigators, as well as the inconsistent results often reported in studies of the transmission of wilt by infected tubers. Investigations dealing with the effect of certain environmental conditions on the occurrence of the disease were also undertaken. All of the …

The original name of the Seton Hall University yearbook was The White and Blue: 1924-1942, with the exception of the 1940 yearbook, which was titled The 1940 Galleon. No yearbooks were published from 1934-1938, due to the Great Depression or from 1943-1946 due to World War II. Seton Hall University resumed publication of its yearbook in 1947 under the title The Galleon but ceased publication with the 2006 issue. This last issue is a compilation of the years 2002-2006.

Merulius lacrymans is one of the wood-rotting fungi which are destroyers of trees, lumber, structural timbers and other forms of wood. Under certain conditions, this fungus is especially harmful to the wood in houses and for this reason it is known as the house fungus. The presence of fungi in wood is generally shown by a white floccose growth or mushroom-like sporophore on the exterior of the infected material. The house fungus announces its presence, only too late, by a cottony mass of hyphal threads spreading over the infected surfaces or emerging through cracks between walls and floors. This circular …

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

The present work was undertaken to determine the influence of some environmental factors on the infection and progress of the disease potato wilt. The work has not progressed to the point of determining the exact relation of each of these factors. However, the results thus far obtained are presented here in order to direct attention to the nature and distribution of the disease in relation to the environmental conditions under which certain types of infection take place.

An investigation was outlined (1) to determine the parasitism of Fusarium on soy bean, (2) to establish its relationship to Fusaria of the section Elegans in so far as a comparison of the cultural characters permitted, and (3) by means of cross- inoculations and field studies to determine the relationship of this disease of soy beans to the wilt disease of cowpeas (Vigna sinensis Hassk.) caused by Fusarium tracheiphilum Smith.
