Context Aware Music Recommendation And Playlist Generation, Elias Mann
Context Aware Music Recommendation And Playlist Generation, Elias Mann
SMU Journal of Undergraduate Research
There are many reasons people listen to music, and the type of music is largely determined by what the listener may be doing while they listen. For example, one may listen to one type of music while commuting, another while exercising, and yet another while relaxing. Without access to the physiological state of the user, current music recommendation methods rely on collaborative filtering - recommending music based on what other similar users listen to - and content based filtering - recommending songs based on their similarities to songs the user already prefers. With the rise in popularity of smart devices …

Despite widespread adoption of tissue clearing techniques in recent years, poor access to suitable light-sheet fluorescence microscopes remains a major obstacle for biomedical end-users. Here, we present descSPIM (desktopequipped SPIM for cleared specimens), a low-cost ($20,000–50,000), lowexpertise (one-day installation by a non-expert), yet practical do-it-yourself light-sheet microscope as a solution for this bottleneck. Even the most fundamental configuration of descSPIM enables multi-color imaging of whole mouse brains and a cancer cell line-derived xenograft tumor mass for the visualization of neurocircuitry, assessment of drug distribution, and pathological examination by false-colored hematoxylin and eosin staining in a threedimensional manner. Quantitative Proteomic Strategies To Determine Substrate Specificities Of Phosphoprotein Phosphatases, Hieu Trung Nguyen
Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations
Reversible phosphorylation is a crucial regulatory mechanism of cellular signaling pathways. Being the most prevalent post-translational modification (PTM) in the cells, with over 75% of all proteins detected to be phosphorylated, phosphorylation regulates a significant number of important cellular processes that have implications in various diseases. Phosphorylation is carried out by protein kinases, which have been extensively studied. However, the opposite reaction, carried out by protein phosphatases, has lagged significantly, exposing a gap of knowledge that is required to be investigated to delineate the kinase-substrate-phosphatase relationship. Phosphoprotein phosphatase family (PPPs), containing seven members of phospho-Serine (pS) and phospho-Threonine (pT) phosphatases, …

The Columbia River Basalt Group (CRBG) is the youngest continental flood basalt province, proposed to be sourced from the deep-seated plume that currently resides underneath Yellowstone National Park. If so, the earliest erupted basalts from this province, such as those in the Picture Gorge Basalt (PGB), aid in understanding and modeling plume impingement and the subsequent evolution of basaltic volcanism. Using geochemical and isotopic data, this study explores potential mantle sources and magma evolution of the PGB. Long known geochemical signatures of the PGB include overall large ion lithophile element (LILE) enrichment and relative depletion of high field strength elements …

Human Trafficking And Resources Provision In The Ed, Kathryn Patrick
Human Trafficking And Resources Provision In The Ed, Kathryn Patrick
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Human trafficking is both a human rights violation and a national health crisis. Despite nearly 165,000 identified cases in the United States since 2007, studies hypothesize that many more victims remain undetected despite up to 88% of trafficked persons interacting with the healthcare system during the time they are being trafficked. The lack of identification of these victims has often been attributed to healthcare providers' lack of knowledge regarding human trafficking indicators and lack of confidence in how to address trafficking situations when they are encountered. Emergency department care providers of a 500-bed central Illinois hospital received education and resource …

Human-Machine Interactions For Behavioral Health Care, Zhiwei Yu
Theses
About one in four American adults (26%) and 20.3% of children aged 8 to 16 years reported behavioral health concerns in 2023. However, a substantial gap remains between demand for behavioral healthcare services and access to such services. In response, research efforts have been made to advance effective and accessible approaches to provide assessments and treatments for populations with behavioral health needs. Yet, two primary challenges exist in current practice and research: 1) self-reports and manual observation-based assessments are subjective and labor-intensive, as evaluations are limited to the availability of clinical professionals; 2) they only target the general experiences but …

We report the discovery of X-ray polarization from the X-ray-bright filament G0.13−0.11 in the Galactic center (GC) region. This filament features a bright, hard X-ray source that is most plausibly a pulsar wind nebula (PWN) and an extended and structured diffuse component. Combining the polarization signal from IXPE with the imaging/spectroscopic data from Chandra, we find that X-ray emission of G0.13−0.11 is highly polarized PD = 57(±18)% in the 3−6 keV band, while the polarization angle is PA = 21 ° ( ± 9 ° ). This high degree of polarization proves the synchrotron origin of the X-ray emission from …
