Roads negatively impact wildlife through habitat fragmentation, loss of habitat connectivity, and wildlife-vehicle collisions, thus road mitigation structures, such as wildlife crossing structures (WCS), wildlife guards (WG), and fencing are commonly used to address this issue all over the world, including in the United States. In South Texas, such structures were built or modified along a State Highway in an effort to address road mortality for the endangered ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) and non-target wildlife species. The goal of this study was to examine temporal changes in wildlife interactions with WCS and WG during and after their construction and …
Combined Virtual Reality And Mechanical Balance Platform System With Induced Visual Roll, Shkenca Demiri
Combined Virtual Reality And Mechanical Balance Platform System With Induced Visual Roll, Shkenca Demiri
Theses
Balance impairments are a common and widespread concern in human health. Acquired through genetics, aging, illness, or prolonged exposure to different environments such as travel by sea or travel in outer space; balance impairments pose significant challenges to those affected. Traditionally, balance studies have been largely qualitative. However, technological advancements have allowed for new methodologies to be developed for analyzing postural sway in a quantitative manner. In this thesis, custom force plate technology, an advanced inertial motion unit (IMU) motion capture system, and a mechanical motion platform, in tandem with a gamification system, were integrated to collect and analyze quantitative …
Diving Deeper Into Supercuspidal Representations, Prerna Agarwal
Diving Deeper Into Supercuspidal Representations, Prerna Agarwal
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
In 2013, Reeder and Yu introduced certain low positive depth supercuspidal representations of $p$-adic groups called \textit{epipelagic} representations. These representations generalize the simple supercuspidal representations of Gross and Reeder, which have the lowest possible depth. Epipelagic representations also arise in recent work on the Langlands correspondence; for example, simple supercuspidals appear in the automorphic data corresponding to the Kloosterman $l$-adic sheaf. In this thesis, we take a first step towards the construction of ``\textit{mesopelagic} representation (of Iwahori type)'' which are the higher depth analogues of simple supercuspidal representations. We see that these constructions can be done in a similar way …
An Analysis Of The Development Of Cognitive Control In Young Children Within An Auditory And Visual Modality., Lauren A. Schiro
An Analysis Of The Development Of Cognitive Control In Young Children Within An Auditory And Visual Modality., Lauren A. Schiro
LSU Master's Theses
The Dual Mechanisms of Cognitive Control Framework (DMC) posits that cognitive control is directed through two different modes: proactive and reactive control. Proactive control involves the maintenance and manipulation of information in preparation of a response while reactive control would involve little to no preparation until after a response prompt. The AX-Continuous Performance Task (AX-CPT) is a cognitive control task that is often utilized in studies looking at proactive and reactive control as it measures context processing and goal maintenance. The aims of this study were to validate the auditory version of the AX-CPT and to then apply this task …

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Incivility is a well-documented issue in the nursing profession that begins in nursing education and follows graduates into nursing practice. Nursing academia has a responsibility to address incivility to prevent inappropriate behaviors from becoming embedded into the culture. The problem addressed in this quality improvement project is incivility among nursing students at a private college. The purpose of this project was to apply evidence-based incivility interventions to address uncivil behaviors of nursing students. The hypothesis was that the implementation of a civility mentor module and professionalism guide would impact perceived incivility among nursing students. The project was conducted using the …

This paper presents the development of a novel orchestration tool that predicts collaborative problem-solving (CPS) behaviors of undergraduate engineering groups and investigates the use of that tool by instructors. We explore the impact of receiving real-time, machine-learning, model-based prompts on 1) instructors' orchestration strategies, which are strategies instructors use to manage and facilitate collaborative activities, and 2) groups' participation, including how groups are engaged in CPS activities. The orchestration tool is a dashboard that notifies instructors of–and advises them on–monitoring and intervening with groups who may need collaborative support and guidance. We describe the accuracy of the models in predicting …

Theses
The goal of this research was to create a robot control system that combines gyroscope and accelerometer data with vision tracking to improve aerial orientation control performance over what could be achieved with sensor data or image processing alone. There has been significant research into the function of mobile robots that can autonomously carry out a wide range of tasks across a wide range of environments. However, the full potential of these robots has yet to be realized, especially at the hobbyist level. Air based travel allows for motion capabilities far beyond that of a robot limited to ground travel …
Identifying Driving Factors Of Inundation Susceptibility In Thailand With The Frequency Ratio Method, Zachary Zoet, Jim Wilson
Identifying Driving Factors Of Inundation Susceptibility In Thailand With The Frequency Ratio Method, Zachary Zoet, Jim Wilson
The Geographical Bulletin
Inundation models tend to cover geographically small areas at large-scales. Inconsistencies in research design arising from data classification methods and consensus about unit of analysis, and agreement on the choice of a consistent modeling method can lead to confusion in the selection of appropriate models for different inundation scenarios. To address these concerns, this study aims to expand on the Frequency Ratio Method, using 13 quantitative and qualitative variables, as a generalizable method that can be applied consistently across larger administrative areas such as the province. The ultimate product of this is a Flood Susceptibility Index (FSI), which can be …

Effects Of Single And Multiple Exemplar Training On Acquisition And Generalization Of Functional Skills, Mariana Guimaraes
Effects Of Single And Multiple Exemplar Training On Acquisition And Generalization Of Functional Skills, Mariana Guimaraes
Doctoral Dissertations
Previous research has shown that Multiple Exemplar Training (MET) produces greater generalization than Single Exemplar Training (SET). The current study directly compares the effects of SET and MET using a parallel-treatments design. In the MET condition, we used a simplified approach to general case instruction called an instructional matrix. The instructional matrix borrowed elements from matrix training, such as organizing the relevant stimuli into a table to determine combinations for teaching and subsequent probing for generalization; and, it borrowed from general case instruction, the programming of common stimuli. The training and generalization settings were set up in the same way …
The Discipline Of Rudy Giuliani And The Real Fraud Of The 2020 Election, George M. Cohen
The Discipline Of Rudy Giuliani And The Real Fraud Of The 2020 Election, George M. Cohen
Catholic University Law Review
In Matter of Giuliani, the New York Appellate Division held that Rudy Giuliani’s knowingly false statements of fact during the period after the 2020 presidential election violated the Rules of Professional Conduct and warranted interim suspension of his license. This paper argues that the court reached the right result but did not use the best rule and the best rationale. Instead of focusing on Giuliani’s conduct as a series of false statements in support of a “narrative,” the better approach would have been to call it what it was: fraud. Although the fraud was not “transactional,” fraud, Giuliani’s false …

Do Digital Payments Spur Gst Revenue: Indian Experience, Surender Kumar
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This paper measures the effect of digital payments on enhancing goods and services tax (GST) revenue in India using monthly time-series information on tax collections and digital payments. By employing an autoregressive distributed lag cointegration framework, we find that the GST elasticity concerning digital transactions is about 0.54. The implication is that a one-standard-deviation increase in the value of digital transactions spurs GST revenue of about INR 62 billion, and a one-standard-deviation increase in index of industrial production (IIP) enhances GST revenue by about INR 8 to 12 billion. These results suggest that enhancing digital transactions is an effective way …

Indian Mutual Fund Industry: Is 2014 A Turning Point?, Shobhit Goel, Pawan Kumar
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
Indian Mutual Fund Industry has experienced a nearly 40-fold increase in assets under management since the start of the 21st century, which has implications for the financial sector and the wider economy. Using structural break models, we identify 2003-08 as a nascent growth phase followed by a tepid growth phase in the post-global financial crisis period. Since 2014, the industry has experienced accelerated growth, outpacing global peers, driven by consistent individual investor inflows in equity and hybrid categories. Supportive regulatory policies introduced in 2012-13, we argue, have boosted the industry’s growth.

Evaluating Language And Communication Surrounding Responsible Gambling, Marla B. Royne Stafford, Anastasia Hronis, Alan Feldman, William T. Hartwell
UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal
The topic of responsible gambling has been the focus of debate over recent years. Unfortunately the language surrounding responsible gambling has proven ineffective, due to varying definitions and debate over stigma related to responsibility. This paper discusses the importance of language in communicating about consumer protection and harm minimization to the public. Three key areas of discussion are highlighted: 1) decoupling responsible gambling and problem gambling to reduce the barrier of stigma; 2) redefining responsible gambling, and 3) the need for conversations amongst peers and parents, all with the view to proactively prevent gambling-related harms.

An Analysis Of United States V. Morta: Refining The Application Of The Other-Indicia Approach To Criminal-Alias Mail, Nicholas Manning
Pepperdine Law Review
Americans who use their legal names to send and receive mail through traditional postal services have long maintained a reasonable expectation of privacy in that mail under the Fourth Amendment. Courts have also recognized that even those who use aliases with traditional postal services have a reasonable expectation of privacy in their mail. But circuit courts have split over whether Americans who use aliases in mail purely for criminal purposes—such as sending or receiving drugs—should have that same expectation of privacy. More specifically, courts disagree over the correct approach to analyze a defendant’s criminal-alias mail for purposes of Fourth Amendment …

The Art Of War: Global Speech Diktats And The Regulatory Challenges To Address Foreign Political Censorship, Michael K. Park
Florida Entertainment and Sports Law Review
China’s global rise and influence is reflected in its long arm reach into many transnational sectors that shape public opinion, including media, publishing, academia and sports. However, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has become more emboldened to use economic incentives (or punishment) to induce foreign industries to either self-censor or advance the CCP’s political messaging. This work examines proposed and existing U.S. federal regulatory mechanisms that could potentially address extraterritorial censorship and propaganda, with particular attention paid to their application to China. This work begins with a modest review of the CCP’s adoption of “sharp power” pursuant to advancing the …
