Tuning Pid Controller For Quadrotor Using Particle Swarm Optimization, Eric X. Rodriguez, Qi Lu
Tuning Pid Controller For Quadrotor Using Particle Swarm Optimization, Eric X. Rodriguez, Qi Lu
Computer Science Faculty Publications
Energy expenditure for quadrotor control has a likelihood of being costly given parameter-dependent controllers that are less than optimal. The cost can grow proportionally when applied to multiple quadrotors for tracking and collaborative navigation tasks. This research aims to establish a basic approach to tuning PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) parameters for a simulated quadrotor drone. A PID controller for autonomy provides a straightforward method for correcting robotic movement based on its current state. However, applying a PID system to a flight controller poses challenges with an inherently under-actuated system, which includes the likelihood of large overshoots and lengthy adjustment times. To address …

A Shield-Bearer’S Tale: Elucidating The Roles Of Estradiol And Choline In Mitigating Chemotherapy-Related Cognitive Impairment, Robert W. Botelho Jr.
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Chemotherapy-Related Cognitive Impairments (CRCIs) are significant consequences of chemotherapy that affect a substantial portion of breast cancer survivors, potentially persisting long after treatment cessation. This series of studies investigated the neuroprotective roles of estradiol and choline against CRCIs induced by cyclophosphamide and doxorubicin (CYP/DOX), commonly known as Adriamycin/Cytoxan (AC) chemotherapy. Utilizing the MMTV-PyVT mouse model of breast cancer, this body of work spans several experimental studies, the first of which evaluates the impact of dietary choline supplementation on spatial memory and cholinergic function in tumor-bearing mice undergoing chemotherapy. The subsequent study tests whether impaired ovarian function and resulting reductions in …
Gaze Preferences To Male Contrapposto And Non-Contrapposto Postures, Farid Pazhoohi, Oliver Lee Jacobs, Alan Kingstone
Gaze Preferences To Male Contrapposto And Non-Contrapposto Postures, Farid Pazhoohi, Oliver Lee Jacobs, Alan Kingstone
School of Psychology
Contrapposto, an asymmetrical twisting of the hips and shoulders, has historically been associated with beauty and aesthetics in art. While the impact of a female contrapposto posture on perception of attractiveness and visual attention has been studied, its effects on males remain understudied. The current research aims to explore whether contrapposto postures in men influence perceptions of attractiveness, dominance, masculinity, dynamism, and naturalness, as well as visual attention. Two eye-tracking studies were conducted, utilizing images of male models in contrapposto and upright poses. Despite differences in attributions, no significant differences were found in visual attention between the two poses in …
Development Of Satellite-Assisted Forecasting System For Vibrio Vulnificus Prevalence In Coastal Waters, Saber Aradpour
Development Of Satellite-Assisted Forecasting System For Vibrio Vulnificus Prevalence In Coastal Waters, Saber Aradpour
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Vibrio vulnificus is a halophilic gamma proteobacterium that is autochthonous to coastal waters and is responsible for 50% of seafood-related deaths in the United States. This study presents a series of nowcasting and forecasting models for predicting vibrio vulnificus abundance in oysters by identifying the long-range dependence of vibrio vulnificus abundance on antecedent environmental conditions and detecting the environmental conditions using satellite remote sensing technology. It was discovered that vibrio vulnificus abundance exhibits a long-range dependence on antecedent environmental conditions which can be characterized by seven independent environmental predictors (stressors) including sea surface temperature (SST), water level (WL), sea surface …
After Afghanistan: The Need For A New Noncombatant Evacuation Operation, E.R. "Elle" Klein
After Afghanistan: The Need For A New Noncombatant Evacuation Operation, E.R. "Elle" Klein
Joint Force Quarterly
With the noncombatant evacuation operation (NEO) in Afghanistan almost 3 years past and a NEO in South Korea an ever-present possibility, it is time to reevaluate the framework that governs the roles and responsibilities of Federal agencies in these life-and-death operations. What the Afghanistan NEO demonstrated—and what conflict on the Korean Peninsula bodes—is that the present framework buckles, if not collapses, under pressure. The United States must rethink the way it conducts NEOs if it is to properly protect noncombatant U.S. persons and allies in the increasingly unstable geopolitical terrain. This article argues that it is time for a new …

Jointness As Virtue: Increasing The Value Of Joint Qualification To The Joint Force And Services, Thomas D. Crimmins, Eric S. Fowler, Daryl A. Chamberlain
Joint Force Quarterly
Ιn “Balancing Nonresident Joint Professional Military Education With Military Life,” Commander Doug Morea makes the salient point that the current joint professional military education (JPME) process fails the individual joint warfighter in preparing for the challenges of serving in combatant commands and other joint forces.1 As joint educators, we agree with Commander Morea’s premise and offer that the current JPME model not only fails the individual joint warfighter but is also wholly inadequate for what the joint force requires both today and in an uncertain future. From the start, the Goldwater-Nichols Department of Defense (DOD) Reorganization Act of 1986 enshrined …

Deviance And Innovation: Change In A “Society Of Saints”, Thaddeus V. Drake, Derrick L. Mcclain
Joint Force Quarterly
Μilitary innovation and adaptation studies are a growth industry. Since the publication of Barry Posen’s seminal study The Sources of Military Doctrine in the early 1980s, the field has grown extensively. Despite well-known military thinkers’ recent book-length treatments of the topic, most studies of change in the military retain two key commonalities. First, nearly all assume that innovation or adaptation is inherently good and worth pursuing. Second, they agree that militaries are famously resistant to change and accept this as part of the fundamental nature of the military system. This article acknowledges the first point; indeed, modern military leaders continually …
What The Cluck? Backyard Chickens And Maine's Mysterious Right To Food, Lucy Weaver
What The Cluck? Backyard Chickens And Maine's Mysterious Right To Food, Lucy Weaver
Maine Law Review
When Maine voters approved the nation’s first “right to food” constitutional amendment, many were concerned about the amendment’s potential to conflict with animal welfare, food safety, and other regulations currently in place at the state and local level. Born from a decade of advocacy, the amendment represents a new era for Maine’s food sovereignty movement. However, the boundaries of the amendment remain unclear, and Maine’s municipalities lack sufficient guidance as they attempt to navigate how this amendment applies to them. This Comment explores one example of the many challenges that may arise from the enactment of the right to food …

Eliminating Barriers For English Language Learners In Gifted And Talented Programs In The U.S., Melissa Dabbs
Eliminating Barriers For English Language Learners In Gifted And Talented Programs In The U.S., Melissa Dabbs
Graduate Teacher Education
This paper investigated the underrepresentation of English Language Learners (ELLs) in Gifted and Talented (GT) Programs in K-5 settings across U.S. states. Nationally, only 1.5% of ELLs are enrolled in GT programs, with several states below that average (OELA, 2021). Schools often rely on achievement tests as a basis for recommending students for GT programs, usually during 2nd grade (Coronado & Lewis, 2017). However, several factors, including the fairness of evaluation tools used, may preclude or exclude a student from being considered for GT programs. Other factors include what definitions and guidelines were used to determine giftedness, specifically …
Identifying The O’Connell Effect In Eclipsing Binary Stars, Nicholas Paolella
Identifying The O’Connell Effect In Eclipsing Binary Stars, Nicholas Paolella
Computer Science and Information Technology Faculty
Data science techniques have wide-ranging applications throughout scientific explorations. One, is filtering astronomical data to better understand specific populations, such as binary stars. Specifically, binary stars that exhibit the O’Connell effect are worthy of study as this phenomenon is still not well understood. The O’Connell effect can be defined as the asymmetry of maxima in the light curves, as captured by the instrument, while observing the eclipsing binary system in question. There is significant data captured by NASA and curated by Villanova University, which enabled the investigation of eclipsing binary stars and the attributes of which may help identify the …
The Memory-Keeping Daughter: Exploring Object Stories And Family Legacies From America's Modern Wars, Susan R. Grayzel
The Memory-Keeping Daughter: Exploring Object Stories And Family Legacies From America's Modern Wars, Susan R. Grayzel
History Faculty Publications
This essay demonstrates how wartime objects can have a special resonance in families as keepers of memory, and it especially explores the role of daughters of military participants in preserving the artifacts of their veteran fathers. Using several case studies from a recent public history project collecting objects and object stories in the American southwest, it argues that a focus on daughters as caretakers of family military history offers a new way to engage with descendants' histories by showing how the work of such women can contribute to our understanding of modern war and its legacies.

Photovoltaic Power Prediction Based On Imfo‑Lstm Model, Qingsheng Li, Yu Zhang, Jiahuan Long, Hao Bai, Rong Hu, Wei Li
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
With the large capacity of photovoltaic power generation connected to the grid, in order to reduce the randomness of photovoltaic power generation output, a long short-term memory (LSTM) based on an improved moth-flame optimization (IMFO) algorithm is proposed to predict photovoltaic power generation power. Firstly, through data preprocessing, grey relational analysis is conducted to reduce the dimensionality of input variables. Then, based on the selected input variables, similar-day sample selection is performed using the grey relational analysis method. Secondly, the position update formula are improved to enhance the performance of the moth algorithm. Then, the improved moth algorithm is used …

Wheat Response To Foliar-Applied Phosphorus Is Determined By Soil Phosphorus Buffering, Raj Malik, Craig Scanlan, Andrew Van Burgel, Balwinder Singh
Grain and Other Field Crops Research Articles
In no-till cropping systems, banding of phosphorus (P) fertiliser at seeding results in low use efficiency due to chemical reactions in soil. Foliar P has the potential to allow grain producers to respond tactically with P application after sowing when P supply from soil and fertiliser is not meeting crop demand. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of foliar P on wheat grain yield, grain quality, biomass yield, P uptake and P use efficiency indices. Nine field experiments were conducted to investigate the response of wheat to foliar P. Three rates of P, 0, 2.5 and …
Takiri Ake Nga Haeata: Lighting A Path To Increased Indigenous Leadership In Aotearoa, Kaylee Ihimaera
Takiri Ake Nga Haeata: Lighting A Path To Increased Indigenous Leadership In Aotearoa, Kaylee Ihimaera
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis addresses the underrepresentation of indigenous Māori people in leadership positions and pursues the need to develop a Māori leadership framework aimed at empowering the next generation of indigenous people. Several frameworks have attempted to exhibit Māori leadership dynamics, each offering unique insights into the cultural and relational aspects of Māori leadership. However, existing frameworks often exhibit limitations in fully encapsulating the breadth of Māori leadership values and practices, necessitating the development of a comprehensive Māori leadership model independent of Western frameworks. Through an extensive review of existing literature and engaging with Māori experts, I synthesized key insights to …
Exploring The Effects Of Delayed Auditory Feedback On Speech Kinematics: A Comparative Analysis Of Monologue Speech And Tongue Twisters, Abbey Corinne Persons
Exploring The Effects Of Delayed Auditory Feedback On Speech Kinematics: A Comparative Analysis Of Monologue Speech And Tongue Twisters, Abbey Corinne Persons
Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated the effects of delayed auditory feedback (DAF) on speech kinematics during tongue twisters and monologues. Participants were 20 adults (10 men, 10 women) aged 18-29 with typical speech and hearing abilities. A smartphone app provided DAF latencies of 50 ms, 100 ms, and 150 ms. Kinematic measures were made of peak speed, stroke distance, and hull area for the tongue front, jaw, and lower lip under typical and the three DAF conditions. Results indicated that DAF significantly reduced peak speed and stroke distance for all articulators during tongue twisters (p < .01), with the effect magnitude increasing with longer delays. No significant DAF effects were observed in monologues (p > .05). Sex differences were noted, with women …
Strong Gelfand Pairs Of Some Finite Groups, Joseph E. Marrow
Strong Gelfand Pairs Of Some Finite Groups, Joseph E. Marrow
Theses and Dissertations
Strong Gelfand pairs describe a relation between a group and a subgroup, using a relation between inner products of their characters. We find all strong Gelfand pairs of the dihedral and dicyclic groups, and several of the sporadic groups. We provide some results for the strong Gelfand pairs of the affine linear groups, in addition to the exceptional classical groups $\mathrm{Sp}_4(q)$ for $q$ a power of $2$.

Multi‑Data Prediction Method Based On Gra/Eemd‑Informer Hybrid Model For Photovoltaic‑Storage‑Direct‑Flexible Distribution System, Bingzheng Wang, Yuntao Yue, Binghua Li, Shanshan Wan
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Addressing the issue of low accuracy in predicting short-term power generation and consumption data for the photovoltaic-storage-direct-flexible distribution system using existing time series models, a multi-data prediction model based on grey relation analysis (GRA), ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD), and Informer, namely the GRA/EEMD-Informer is proposed. This model effectively captures the precise long-range correlation coupling between outputs and inputs through grey relation analysis, modal decomposition, combined with a self-attention distillation mechanism. It reduces spatiotemporal complexity and significantly alleviates the limitations of traditional encoding and decoding methods. Using data from a photovoltaic power station, the electricity consumption of typical office building, …

Sex Influences Of Age Of Onset And Duration Of Illness On Patterns Of Cortical Thickness In Individuals With Schizophrenia, Rachael Olivia Slate
Sex Influences Of Age Of Onset And Duration Of Illness On Patterns Of Cortical Thickness In Individuals With Schizophrenia, Rachael Olivia Slate
Theses and Dissertations
Given that the manifestation of schizophrenia varies by sex, it is hypothesized that the interaction between diagnosis and sex significantly influences brain structure and is believed to be a crucial factor in understanding the neurobiology of schizophrenia. While much is known about cortical thickness mapping of the condition, there is currently no work that has assessed how changes to the cortical mantle relate to important clinical features of schizophrenia that vary by sex, such as age of illness onset (AOO) or duration of illness (DOI). This study utilized a sex-wise approach to examining cortical thickness alterations in men and women …
