Dementia, a chronic neurodegenerative disorder, progressively impairs cognitive functions such as memory, reasoning, learning, and recall, placing a significant burden on patients and healthcare systems. Early and accurate classification of dementia severity is crucial for personalized care and intervention. This study introduces a novel Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) designed to classify dementia into four ordinal severity levels (None, Very Mild, Mild, and Moderate) based on MRI brain scans. Utilizing the extensive Open Access Series of Imaging Studies (OASIS) dataset, which includes 86,437 MRI scans (67,222 ‘none,’ 13,725 ‘very mild,’ 5,002 ‘mild,’ and 488 ‘moderate’), our model addresses severe class imbalance …

This article questions whether there is such a thing as secular politics. In his philosophical anthropology Paul Ricoeur sees man’s innate goodness, despite his propensity for evil, ramifying into many capacities, among them, forgiveness. The capacity to forgive, for Ricoeur, lies between the paralysis of the power to act due to human fault, and the possible lifting of this incapacity through the separation of the offending agent from his or her evil deeds. This article attempts to show the continuing practical relevance of hermeneutics through the example of legal interpretation. The article begins with the very concrete nature of legal hermeneutics that forms everyday legal practice—the interrelation of meaning and application— and expands at a more theoretical to show how legal hermeneutics, and hermeneutics more generally, offers what Ricoeur calls an interpretive “choice in favor of meaning.” The choice in favor of meaning underscores the restorative character of hermeneutics that legal hermeneutics can epitomize. The article concludes with some of the challenges facing contemporary legal hermeneutics.

This paper proposes an enhanced Conditional Integrator Sliding Mode Controller using Particle Swarm Optimization (CISMCPSO) for a magnetic levitation system (MLS). The main advantage of this controller is its robustness to uncertainties and disturbances, which also avoids chattering and ensures zero static steady-state error. Aerodynamic breakup of vaporizing drops is commonly seen in many spray applications. While it is well known that vaporization can modulate interfacial instabilities, the impact of vaporization on drop aerobreakup is poorly understood. Detailed interface-resolved simulations were performed to systematically study the effect of vaporization, characterized by the Stefan number, on the drop breakup and acceleration for different Weber numbers and density ratios. It is observed that the resulting asymmetric vaporization rates and strengths of Stefan flow on the windward and leeward sides of the drop hinder bag development and prevent drop breakup. An iron selenite-based cathode compound, LiFe(SeO₃)₂, is synthesized via a simple hydrothermal route. The bulk purity of the compound is confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Mössbauer spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The crystal structure determined from the single-crystal X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement of synchrotron PXRD data perfectly matches the previously reported structure in the I4̅2d space group. The crystal structure is built up of edge-sharing of FeO₆ octahedra and LiO₄ tetrahedra interconnected by SeO₃ trigonal pyramidal units, forming a three-dimensional open framework network with channels through all three axes. …

Despite this, families remain consistently overlooked in criminal justice discourse, leading to heightened stress and diminished resilience. The foot of Archaeopteryx, the “icon of evolution”, thus offers a unique opportunity to investigate this critical evolutionary stage. Chapter I of this dissertation integrates advanced 3D reconstruction techniques, combining photogrammetry with X-ray data, to create a high-resolution model of the foot of the Thermopolis specimen of Archaeopteryx for visualization and analysis. This study employs time series data of unemployment rate, business confidence, and education expenditures from 2001-2022, making it to 21 observations. In this paper, several tests are used, namely Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) for stationarity, Breusch Godfrey Serial Correlation LM Test, Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) for autocorrelation and multicollinearity.
