Skin Lesion Classification Using Cnn Model And Augmented Dataset, Mohammed Nawzad Mohammed-Ramzi, Aso M. Aladdin
Skin Lesion Classification Using Cnn Model And Augmented Dataset, Mohammed Nawzad Mohammed-Ramzi, Aso M. Aladdin
Journal of Soft Computing and Computer Applications
Skin cancer is a deadly disease. Skin lesion classification is a critical challenge due to its prevalent and deadly nature. Skin lesions are difficult for dermatologists to detect using eye examination, which is time-consuming and variable. A deep learning model of skin lesions classification has been proposed using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) trained on the HAM10000 dataset of 10,015 dermatoscopies. To improve resilience and address the dataset's extreme class imbalance, data augmentation techniques such as geometric transformations, brightness/contrast adjustments, blurring, noise addition, histogram equalization, color space alterations, and elastic deformations are used. With a carefully balanced 10% test set, …

Comparative Analysis Of Random Forest And Artificial Neural Networks For Predicting In-Situ Soil Density, Eng. Jinan Ali Abd Al-Kareem Al-Maliki, Dr Ammar Salman Dawood, Dr. Ihsan Al-Abboodi
HBRC Journal
This study suggests that RF and ANN are proven to be robust algorithms in predicting in-situ soil density, which is considered a significant geotechnical parameter. The research is based on 86 soil samples and focuses on five main input parameters: Gravel Percentage (G%), Plastic Limit (PL%), Sand Percentage (S%), Fines Percentage (F%), and Liquid Limit (LL%). The models developed here utilize five commonly recorded index properties (G%, S%, F%, LL, and PL) for all field samples taken from the Basra-Faw Road project. The influence of moisture content and compressive energy was ignored, as all field samples acquired the same moisture …

Vaginitis is one of the most common women's health problems, and its severity increases in pregnant women with gestational diabetes due to higher susceptibility to infection and increased rates of antibiotic resistance. The research problem: The increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae and its association with AcrAB-TolC ejaculation pumps limits treatment efficacy, while the effect of green-method nanoparticles on gene expression of these pumps remains unclear. This paper aimed to detect the acrA and acrB genes in K. pneumoniae isolates and evaluate the effect of zinc oxide nanoparticles prepared with garlic and rosemary extracts on their gene expression. …
Vsar: A Verifiable, Formally-Verified Safety Kernel For Autonomous Security Remediation, Inaki Garcia Alonso
Vsar: A Verifiable, Formally-Verified Safety Kernel For Autonomous Security Remediation, Inaki Garcia Alonso
Defensive Publications Series
Autonomous remediation agents increasingly hold credentials to change production infrastructure (DNS, email authentication, CDN and TLS configuration) in response to machine-generated findings. The dominant assurance model for such systems is auditable: actions are logged for after-the-fact human review. We argue this is insufficient when the actor is an LLM-driven agent whose proposals are untrusted text, and we present VSAR (Verifiable Safe Autonomous Remediation), a safety kernel that makes every remediation verifiable instead of merely auditable. VSAR gates each proposed change through a fixed set of eight predicates, including a target-binding predicate that ties the change to the exact asset the …

Conceptual Design Proposal: The Tethered Fusion-Driven Sail With Integrated Magnetohydrodynamic And Thermodynamic Energy Harvesting, Christopher L. Eckes
Defensive Publications Series
This paper proposes a deep-space vehicle architecture utilizing a tethered, fusion-driven "puller" configuration to eliminate beam-riding instabilities inherent in traditional laser sails. The design integrates a trailing nuclear-fusion tug that pulls a curved, light-reflective sail via a rigid, boron-doped multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) structural tether. To mitigate cosmic radiation and interstellar medium (ISM) degradation at relativistic velocities, the vessel employs a Particle-Ejection Mini-Heliosphere (M2P2) shield inflated by Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide (YBCO) high-temperature superconducting coils. System efficiency is optimized via a closed-loop energy harvesting matrix consisting of: (1) a three-layer thermodynamic hull utilizing Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Bismuth Telluride (Bi₂Te₃) …
System And Method For Generating Clinical-Trial Edit-Check Rules From Protocol Text With Prompt-Injection Defense, Narendra Nath Sarkar
System And Method For Generating Clinical-Trial Edit-Check Rules From Protocol Text With Prompt-Injection Defense, Narendra Nath Sarkar
Defensive Publications Series
A system and method translate clinical-trial protocol text into structured electronic-data-capture (EDC) edit-check rules (each rule expressed as field / operator / value / action with a severity, an action-on-violation, a confidence score, a human-readable rationale, and a provenance reference to the originating protocol span). Untrusted protocol text is hardened against prompt injection before any model is invoked, via length capping, control-character removal, a configurable set of injection-pattern filters, and role-marker stripping. Rule generation is a hybrid of (a) a deterministic knowledge-base pattern matcher and (b) an optional large-language-model (LLM) augmentation pass; generated rules are bound to a CRF (case …

Structural Mechanisms For A Modular Proactive Ai Cloud Operating System: Hierarchical Context Resolution, Anti-Fabrication-Bounded Narration, And Human-Confirmed Multi-Step Action (Icnli), Valentin Scerbacov
Defensive Publications Series
Deploying a foundation language model into a real operational domain — hosting, healthcare, finance, government, manufacturing, logistics — exposes a class of failures that the model layer cannot, by its probabilistic nature, eliminate: fabrication of facts never retrieved, unreliable multi-step action, loss of structured memory across sessions and channels, the absence of an enforceable human-control gate, and uncontrolled exposure of private data. This disclosure describes a set of structural mechanisms that bound these failures at a layer outside the model — the orchestration kernel — rather than attempting to train them away inside the model. The disclosed mechanisms are: (1) …
Efficiency Improvement Of Rag Based Slm For Edge Devices, Pavan Prashanth Avanigadda
Efficiency Improvement Of Rag Based Slm For Edge Devices, Pavan Prashanth Avanigadda
Master’s Dissertations
The increasing need to deploy language models on constrained devices has given rise to efficiency issues in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) approaches. Although RAGs boost answers’ quality by retrieving knowledge from external sources, current methods utilize static retrieval mechanisms, resulting in unnecessary computation, higher latencies, and inefficiency in resource usage. In this work, an efficient RAG approach based on small language models (SLMs) is presented, which uses a efficient and adaptive retrieval scheme. This method dynamically changes the retrieval depth and context constrution based on the complexity of the query, using a trained MLP router whose routing decisions are learned from …
Developing A Model To Generate More Digital Data Of Indian Languages For Multilingual Applications, Arya Bagde
Developing A Model To Generate More Digital Data Of Indian Languages For Multilingual Applications, Arya Bagde
Master’s Dissertations
Most of India’s scheduled languages remain critically under-served by language technology because parallel (translated) text — the raw material that modern multilingual systems depend on — is extremely scarce. Back-translation can synthesise such data automatically, but its quality varies enormously, and unfiltered synthetic data can be worse than no data at all. This dissertation develops a framework that generates synthetic parallel data for four low-resource Indian languages spanning three language families and four scripts — Assamese (Indo-Aryan, Bengali script), Bodo (Tibeto-Burman, Devanagari), Manipuri (Tibeto-Burman, Bengali script) and Santali (Austroasiatic, Ol Chiki)—and introduces CASCADE, a learned multi-signal quality gate that scores …
Dynamic Property Ordering For Efficient Multi-Property Bounded Model Checking, Vivek Kumar
Dynamic Property Ordering For Efficient Multi-Property Bounded Model Checking, Vivek Kumar
Master’s Dissertations
Formal verification plays a critical role in ensuring the correctness of modern hardware designs. As the complexity of digital systems increases, designs are often associated with a large number of verification properties that must be analyzed within limited computational resources. In conventional multi-property bounded model checking (BMC), all properties are verified simultaneously. While this approach enables parallel analysis, difficult properties can consume a disproportionate amount of resources, causing simpler properties to be delayed and reducing the overall efficiency of bug detection. This thesis presents dynamic property ordering techniques for efficient multi-property verification using SAT-based bounded model checking in the ABC …
Empirical Analysis On Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning Frameworks, Jordan Jiosi
Empirical Analysis On Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning Frameworks, Jordan Jiosi
Theses and Dissertations
Increasingly, automated agents operating in the physical world are expected to perform previously unseen tasks at levels comparable to human experts. Solutions to these challenges typically fall along a spectrum between model-based and model-free reinforcement learning (RL) approaches. Encouraging expert-like behavior in reinforcement learning is often difficult because reward functions can be challenging to specify accurately. Inverse reinforcement learning addresses this problem by inferring reward functions directly from expert demonstrations rather than relying on manually engineered objectives. This thesis examines the performance of both on-policy and off-policy model-free reinforcement learning algorithms, including Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) and Deep Deterministic Policy …
A Rho5-Cnc1-Dnm1 Signalling Module Coordinates Multi-Organelle Execution Of Regulated Cell Death In Yeast, Justin Bauer
A Rho5-Cnc1-Dnm1 Signalling Module Coordinates Multi-Organelle Execution Of Regulated Cell Death In Yeast, Justin Bauer
Theses and Dissertations
Regulated cell death is a conserved process with major implications for health and disease, yet how yeast cells integrate stress signals to determine survival versus death remains unclear. This thesis investigates Cyclin C (Cnc1), a conserved Mediator kinase module component with both transcriptional and mitochondrial roles. Together with Cdk8 Cnc1 primarily represses stress response genes, while upon stress it translocates to the mitochondria to induce mitochondrial fragmentation with the dynamin-related GTPase Dnm1. Using structure-guided separation-of-function mutants, I demonstrate that Cnc1-dependent death requires its mitochondrial function rather than its transcriptional role, and that its effector Dnm1 acts as a signaling node …
Anatomy And Function Of Vasopressin Receptor 1a-Expressing Neurons In The Limbic Thalamus, David Joseph Kahn
Anatomy And Function Of Vasopressin Receptor 1a-Expressing Neurons In The Limbic Thalamus, David Joseph Kahn
Theses and Dissertations
The vasopressin (Avp) system modulates social behavior through region-specific and sex-dependent mechanisms, yet the role of Avp receptor 1a (Avpr1a) signaling in the thalamus has remained largely unexplored. This dissertation examined the distribution and functional contributions of Avpr1a-expressing neurons across the mouse thalamus using a combination of genetic labeling, anatomical quantification, and chemogenetic manipulation. Mapping of Avpr1a-expressing neurons revealed a presence in most thalamic nuclei, with highest densities in the anterior thalamic nuclei and midline nuclei. Notably, Avpr1a-expressing neuron densities did not mirror previously described patterns of Avp innervation, and no sex differences in Avpr1a-expressing neuron density were observed. Chemogenetic …

From Innovation To Speculation: Ai And The Magnificent Seven, Rerotlhe B. Basele, Peter C. B. Phillips, Shuping Shi
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
The AI boom has driven the Nasdaq and the Magnificent Seven tech stocks to record highs. But how much do these new records reflect underlying value, how much is speculation, and how vulnerable are these stocks and the wider market to a major downturn? Our evidence and analyses show clear signs of bubble exuberance in most of these stocks, concentrated in a few names like Nvidia, leading to latent risks for investors who assume their index funds are safely diversified and supported by wider economic fundamentals.

Background/aim: Parenteral feeding is used in critically ill patients when enteral nutrition is inadequate or intolerable, and the gastrointestinal tract is not functioning properly. Lipid emulsions play a major role in parenteral nutrition because they supply necessary fatty acids and a high-calorie density. We investigated the effects of parenteral lipid emulsions on mesenteric perfusion, inflammation-induced oxidation, and organ damage in lipopolysaccharide-induced mice endotoxemia model.
Materials and methods: In septic mice, organ damage induced by lipopolysaccharide was assessed by histopathology and biochemical examination. Additionally, an ultrasonic blood flowmeter was used to measure the impact of lipid emulsions on mesenteric blood flow. …

Direct Minimization Of Hartree-Fock-Roothaan Energy Functionals Using Derivative-Free Optimization Algorithms: A Case Study On The Use Of Noninteger Slater-Type Orbitals, Ali̇ Bağci
Turkish Journal of Physics
This study presents an evaluation of derivative-free optimization algorithms for the direct minimization of Hartree−Fock−Roothaan energy functionals involving nonlinear orbital parameters and noninteger-order quantum numbers. The analysis focuses on atomic calculations employing noninteger Slater-type orbitals. Analytic derivatives of the energy functional are not readily available for these orbitals. Four methods are investigated under identical numerical conditions: Powell’s conjugate−direction method, the Nelder−Mead simplex algorithm, coordinate-based pattern search, and a model-based algorithm utilizing radial basis functions for surrogate-model construction. Performance analysis is first carried out using the Powell singular function, a well-established test case exhibiting challenging properties, including Hessian singularity at the …

We formulate a quantum-mechanical system consisting of a single discrete state coupled to an infinite ladder of equally spaced states, with the coupling described by a Lorentzian profile. Various limiting cases of this system correspond to well-known models in quantum optics: the narrow-resonance limit yields the Rabi model, the wide-resonance limit yields the Bixon--Jortner model, the wide-resonance true continuum limit yields the Wigner--Weisskopf model, and the fixed-resonance true continuum limit yields a system typically studied using methods developed by Fano. We obtain a semianalytical solution to the eigenvalue problem by reducing it to a transcendental equation and demonstrate the limiting …
