Optimizing Indoor Localization Using Rssi And Iq Data With Machine Learning, Gokdeniz Tingur
Optimizing Indoor Localization Using Rssi And Iq Data With Machine Learning, Gokdeniz Tingur
Computer Science Theses
This paper explores implementing and evaluating a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)-based indoor localization system using Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and Angle of Arrival (AoA) data via machine learning. A survey of localization technologies (RFID, GPS, ZigBee, and BLE) provides context on capabilities and limitations in indoor positioning. IQ data and phase-based angle estimation show how BLE 5.1’s direction-finding features enable sub-meter accuracy. A multi-phase experiment in a three-story academic building examines model performance with different tag distributions, movement patterns, and environmental constraints. Machine learning models such as Support Vector Machines and Deep Neural Networks are trained and evaluated across …

Load Analysis And Material Optimization For An Underwater Autonomy Sensorized Task Platform, Andrew Vo
Engineering Theses
With developing technology, options for fabrication and material selection broaden. An example is 3D printable photopolymer resin used to create parts serving several applications. An application of this photopolymer resin is the ONR research project for the creation of the sensorized task platform for a robot to use underwater. The resin in this project was used to fabricate custom-made connecting brackets. These fabricated parts were hastily designed with no detailed analysis on stress distributions or material consumption. Using SolidWorks simulation analysis and Instron machines for experimentation, the goal of this project was to modify the original part with a reduced …

The Impact Of Parenting Behaviors On The Development Of Hope In Young Children Experiencing Homelessness, Gracie Munnie
Psychology Theses
Research in resilience science has revealed a “short-list” of protective factors that support positive development in contexts of risk and adversity (Masten, 2014). One such factor is hope, which includes agency thinking (i.e., the belief in one’s ability to accomplish their goals) and pathway thinking (i.e., the ability to produce attainable routes to those goals; Sparks, 2021; Synder, 1997). In families, parents with high levels of hope set intentional parenting goals and encourage their children to create goals as well; these parents also report better psychological functioning and increased ability to cope with parenting stressors (Cole & Molloy, 2023). Although …
Blood Quantum And The Auto-Colonization Of The Michigan Anishinaabek, Matthew L.M. Fletcher
Blood Quantum And The Auto-Colonization Of The Michigan Anishinaabek, Matthew L.M. Fletcher
Book Chapters
Anishinaabe storyteller Basil Johnston described the chronological path of life in four stages, what he called the four hills of life. The first stage, linked to the East, is infancy and early childhood, a time of preparation and listening. The second stage, linked to the South, is youth, a time of doing things. The third stage, linked to the West, is adulthood, a time of vision. The fourth stage, linked to the North, is Old Age, a time of the fulfillment of the vision and a time of sacred learning and teaching.
The twelve Michigan Anishinaabek tribal nations are in …
Measurement Of Two-Point Energy Correlators Within Jets In P+P Collisions At Sqrt[S]=200 Gev, Star Collaboration
Measurement Of Two-Point Energy Correlators Within Jets In P+P Collisions At Sqrt[S]=200 Gev, Star Collaboration
Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications
Hard-scattered partons ejected from high-energy proton-proton collisions undergo parton shower and hadronization, resulting in collimated collections of particles that are clustered into jets. A substructure observable that highlights the transition between the perturbative and nonperturbative regimes of jet evolution in terms of the angle between two particles is the two-point energy correlator (EEC). In this Letter, the first measurement of the EEC at RHIC is presented, using data taken from 200 GeV p þ p collisions by the STAR experiment. The EEC is measured both for all the pairs of particles in jets and separately for pairs with like and …
Influence Of Subduction Interface Geometry On Surface Displacements And Slip Processes In Cascadia, H. M. Elston, John Loveless, J.R. Delph
Influence Of Subduction Interface Geometry On Surface Displacements And Slip Processes In Cascadia, H. M. Elston, John Loveless, J.R. Delph
Geosciences: Faculty Publications
The subduction interface geometry is particularly important for estimating interplate coupling and surface geodetic motion, which has significant implications for seismic hazard mapping.Several published Cascadia subduction interface geometries derived from different seismic data sets vary significantly from one another. However, results from deformation models that use the different interface geometries are rarely systematically compared. Here, we assess the impact of subduction interface geometry on surface motion predictions, slip inversion results, and interface coupling estimates from four published Cascadia subduction interface geometries. We isolate the effect of the interface geometry on the predicted surface motion by applying uniform unit slip or …

Journal of Law, Technology, & the Internet
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming border security and law enforcement, with facial recognition technology (FRT) at the forefront of this shift. Widely adopted by U.S. federal agencies such as the FBI, ICE, and CBP, FRT is increasingly used to monitor both citizens and migrants, often without their knowledge. While this technology promises enhanced security, it’s early-stage deployment raises significant concerns about reliability, bias, and ethical data sourcing. This paper examines how FRT is being used at the U.S.-Mexico border and beyond, highlighting its potential to disproportionately target vulnerable groups and infringe on constitutional rights.
The paper provides an overview of …
Spatial And Temporal Variability Of Dayside Magnetopause Reconnection, Krishna Khanal
Spatial And Temporal Variability Of Dayside Magnetopause Reconnection, Krishna Khanal
Dissertations
The dissertation investigates the spatial and temporal variability of magnetopause reconnection, a central tenet of the solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling. In the spatial sense, magnetopause reconnection occurs along X-lines of variable extent, which can be determined through remote sensing using ionospheric observations. Using in situ observations from Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms (THEMIS) in conjunction with ionospheric observations from the Super Dual Auroral Radar Network (SuperDARN), we conducted a statistical study to examine the variability and controlling factors of the spatial extent of magnetopause reconnection. Our findings indicate that the magnetopause X-lines can span from a few …

Design And Construction Of An Affordable Adjustable Repetition Rate Optical Frequency Comb, Christopher Latchford
Design And Construction Of An Affordable Adjustable Repetition Rate Optical Frequency Comb, Christopher Latchford
Physics, Astronomy and Geophysics Honors Papers
Two different adjustable repetition rate optical frequency combs were designed and constructed with off-the-shelf components, including several improvements to established erbium fiber designs. These designs were assembled at a fraction of the cost of a commercial comb. Both combs were constructed with a repetition rate of roughly 100 MHz, with one combs tuning range being 2 MHz and the others being 3 MHz. These combs followed different designs, the first being a modification of an established nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) design, the second being a modification to a “figure 9” design. A stabilization control loop for frep achieved long-term drifts …
The Re-Criminalization Of Sexual Minorities As A Testing Ground For International Human Rights Law In Africa, Matteo M. Winkler & Ilias Bantekas
The Re-Criminalization Of Sexual Minorities As A Testing Ground For International Human Rights Law In Africa, Matteo M. Winkler & Ilias Bantekas
Fordham International Law Journal
This Article scrutinizes the recently enacted statutes that re- criminalize sexual minorities in Africa from the standpoint of international human rights law (IHRL). These statutes are currently justified under cultural relativism, that is, the idea that African culture abhors homosexuality, which represents a malicious import from the Western world. We argue that the re-criminalization statutes violate IHRL in multiple stances and that in no way are these violations justifiable under cultural relativism. This does not mean that there is no virtue in cultural relativism, but a limit must be fixed to the dehumanization of minorities which is the intended purpose …

The Physiological Effects Of Anabolic Steroids On The Human Body, Aedan Kerr
The Physiological Effects Of Anabolic Steroids On The Human Body, Aedan Kerr
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) are synthetic derivatives of testosterone used both medically and illicitly for their muscle-building and performance-enhancing properties. While clinically prescribed for conditions like hypogonadism, osteoporosis, and muscle-wasting diseases, AAS are frequently abused by athletes and recreational lifters seeking rapid physical gains. AAS increase muscle protein synthesis via androgen receptor-mediated gene transcription, but they also predispose users to tendon ruptures and various organ functions. AAS abuse is strongly associated with a host of side effects including gynecomastia, male-pattern hair loss, infertility, hepatotoxicity, erythrocytosis, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, and hypogonadism. Cardiovascular complications such as left ventricular hypertrophy, cardiomyopathy, and myocardial infarctions …

This Article argues that today’s anti-CRT statutes, book bans, and “divisive concepts” laws are not isolated culture-war skirmishes but the latest chapter in a long campaign—dating back to the Lost Cause and the United Daughters of the Confederacy—to legislate white innocence as national identity. By sanitizing slavery, suppressing discussions of systemic racism, and threatening educators with punitive ambiguity, these laws flatten historical truth and convert classrooms into zones of anticipatory obedience. The result is a state-engineered amnesia that undermines the core First and Fourteenth Amendment protections the Supreme Court has recognized for more than a century, from Meyer and Barnette …

Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers amongst women globally. Early detection is crucial for improving survival rates. While mammography is widely used and an effective imaging technique, it can sometimes yield false positive or false negatives. Mammogram interpretation is highly operator-dependent, introducing variability and the potential for diagnostic errors. Additionally, mammographic images have limitations, such as low contrast in breast tissue and overlapping structures that can obscure lesions or mimic abnormalities. These limitations can lead to unnecessary biopsies or delayed diagnosis. These challenges highlight the needs for advanced and data driven diagnostic tools to support and enhance …

ECHS1 deficiency (ECHS1D) is a rare and devastating neurometabolic disease that currently has no defined treatments. This disorder results from missense loss-of-function mutations in the ECHS1 gene that results in severe developmental delays, encephalopathy, hypotonia and early death. ECHS1 enzymatic activity is necessary for the beta-oxidation of fatty acids and the oxidation of branched-chain amino acids within the inner mitochondrial matrix. The pathogenesis of disease remains poorly understood. To expand our knowledge on disease mechanisms, we generated a novel mouse model of ECHS1D that possesses a disease-associated variant knocked-in (KI) the Echs1 allele and a knock-out (KO) of the other …
