Colorimetric Determination Of Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) By Indirect Method With Ferrous Ion And 1,10 Phenanthroline, Suhad Abdel Moneim Yassin, Khalaf F. Alsamarrai
Baghdad Science Journal
CyanoCobalamin (Vitamin B12) was determined using a simple, reliable, and affordable colorimetric method. According to this method, excess Ferrous sulfate (FeSO4.7H2O, or FS) is used to reduce vitamin B12, and the excess FS reacts with the reagent 1,10-phenanthroline to produce a soluble red color complex. The greatest wavelength of the spectrum of this complex was 510 nm. The concentration linearity range was 5-100 µg/mL. The RSD% values were 0.107-0.259% for intraday and 1.085-0.1378% for interday, while the Rec% values ranged from 95 to 100.833%. LOD and LOQ values were respectively 0.016 µg/mL and 0.053 µg/mL. The method was used to …

Two areas were opened (Areas C, D), exposing a stepped tunnel, a bathhouse and a cemetery. The stepped tunnel, which was unearthed in the 1970–1971 season of excavations, was found to end in a narrow leveled space, above which was a vaulted entrance leading to a spacious underground room. A compact Roman–Byzantine bathhouse was exposed, comprising five distinct units: a water-supply unit, a heating installation (praefurnium), heated-water pools, a hot room (caldarium) and a cool room (frigidarium). It is evident that the bathhouse was connected to the hostel building excavated in 1970–1971. The pottery from the bathhouse was similar to …
Rescue Excavations At The Early Bronze Age Site Of Qiryat Ata––Area S (With A Contribution By Hamoudi Khalaily) (Pp. 63–98), Amir Golani

The excavations in the al-Wata quarter in Safed (Zefat) yielded a few out-of-context finds: a Late Roman coin from the fourth century, a Fatimid silver coin from the eleventh century, and a single Ayyūbid copper coin from the end of the twelfth century. Seven copper fulūs, minted at Dimashq and Iskandariya, represent the main Mamlūk period of the site (thirteenth–fifteenth centuries CE). Five copper manghir, minted at Dimashq and Egypt in the sixteenth century, represent a relatively short phase during the early Ottoman period.

Thirty-one coins, two of silver and the remainder of bronze and copper, were recovered from the al-Wata quarter in Safed (Zefat). Nineteen of the coins were identified. The earliest are two intrusive coins from the Byzantine period (fourth–second half of the sixth centuries CE). The remaining coins are mostly low-value Mamlūk copper denominations (thirteenth–fourteenth centuries CE), including two identical ‘fesse’ fulus of Lājīn. In addition, an irregularly-shaped dirham fraction was found. Such small silver fractions were minted in large quantities during Baybars’ reign at his Damascus mint and apparently circulated widely in medieval Syria. The latest coin is a silver …

'Atiqot
Four scarabs and a cylinder seal were unearthed in a burial cave near Ras ‘Ali, in Naḥal Zippori. Three of the scarabs are made of glazed steatite and one, of obsidian; the seal is made of serpentine. The three glazed steatite scarabs are locally made Canaanite products, while the obsidian scarab seems to have been imported from Egypt. The cylinder seal is a Syrian product that was imported from the Syrian coast, most probably from Ugarit. All the glyptic finds are typical of MB IIC in Canaan (sixteenth century BCE).

Exploration Of Energy Efficient Location Based Routing Protocols For Wireless Sensor Networks, Huthiafa Q. Qadori, Idris Abubakar Umar, Mohammed Khalaf
Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics
Few routing protocols designed for wireless sensor networks (WSN) have been adopted for commercial use in today's technology. This is because when designing the protocols, there is a need to trade-off some features to improve others, but for some designs, these compromises are deemed adamant especially when resources are constrained. An Ideal sensor node is expected to have a small code size capable of coordinating communication activities with the least energy possible. This survey studies some energy-efficient location-based routing protocols that were proposed over the years, with a key interest in factors influencing energy utilization, as it is the most …

'Atiqot
Remains of three parallel aqueducts (A–C) were found over a distance of about 6 km along Naḥal Bet Ha-‘Emeq. Aqueduct A is partly a tunnel with vertical shafts and partly a channel; Aqueduct B is a wide channel; and Aqueduct C is a narrow channel. Sections of the tunnels were completely filled with soil, while others were empty. The ceramic evidence suggests that Aqueducts A and C were hewn in the Hellenistic period, while Aqueduct B could be slightly later. After the aqueducts were abandoned, the region was terraced for agricultural use. In addition to the three aqueducts, a shaft …
Horizontal Display Misalignment Rectification In Stereoscopic Head-Mounted Displays, Haley Adams
Horizontal Display Misalignment Rectification In Stereoscopic Head-Mounted Displays, Haley Adams
Defensive Publications Series
Stereoscopic display misalignments contribute to a number of adverse side effects in head-mounted displays that render world-locked or body-locked content, including motion sickness, visual discomfort, and distorted depth perception. This disclosure presents techniques for correcting horizontal misalignments by leveraging the perceptual discrepancies arising from these distortions. Specifically, the difference in perceived distance of a virtual image under binocular (stereoscopic) and monocular viewing conditions is used to detect and rectify misalignments. User input is obtained regarding the distance between two images of the same object, where one image is rendered stereoscopically and one image is rendered monocularly. The binocular disparity of …
A Framework For Metadata Workflows, Rebecca B. French
A Framework For Metadata Workflows, Rebecca B. French
Libraries
Designing metadata workflows is a core competency for cataloging and metadata practitioners. Unlike many other competencies, metadata workflow design lacks a conceptual framework, hindering understanding and skill development. This article presents a framework for metadata workflows that describes processes for adding, enhancing, and removing metadata from library systems. The framework describes standard and custom workflows, including original and copy cataloging, withdrawals, system migrations, metadata creation, and record enhancement. A better understanding of metadata workflows facilitates the implementation of automation and batch processing and can inform staff training, professional development offerings, and library and information science curricula.

Business Faculty Articles and Research
Order flow segmentation prevents direct interactions between U.S. retail and institutional investors. Using the imbalance in observable internalized retail trades, we show wholesalers use retail flow to provide liquidity to institutional investors, especially when liquidity is scarce. Our institutional liquidity cost () measures average absolute retail trade imbalances, positing that institutions holding stocks with greater such averages more often resort to the expensive wholesaler-provided liquidity. is correlated with expected institutional price impacts. Unlike existing illiquidity measures, has economically meaningful relations with institutional holding horizons and yields annualized liquidity premia of 2.7%–3.2% post-2010, even after excluding microcap stocks.

A new proliferation of optical instruments that can be attached to towers over or within ecosystems, or ‘proximal’ remote sensing, enables a comprehensive characterization of terrestrial ecosystem structure, function, and fluxes of energy, water, and carbon. Proximal remote sensing can bridge the gap between individual plants, site-level eddy-covariance fluxes, and airborne and spaceborne remote sensing by providing continuous data at a high-spatiotemporal resolution. Here, we review recent advances in proximal remote sensing for improving our mechanistic understanding of plant and ecosystem processes, model development, and validation of current and upcoming satellite missions. We provide current best practices for data availability …

Burial 10 is a unique Manteño (AD 650–1532) burial from Buen Suceso, Ecuador, dating between AD 771 and 953. This burial included the remains of a young female, pregnant at the time of death and buried with an elaborate array of goods, including anachronistic spondylus ornaments, green stones, and shell eye coverings. Perimortem trauma, including a cranial fracture and cutmarks on hand bones, perimortem removal of the hands and left leg, and other body manipulation suggest she was sacrificed, a rare event for coastal Ecuadorian peoples.

When dielectrics are hit with intense infrared (IR) laser pulses, transient metalization can occur. The initial attosecond dynamics behind this metallization are not entirely understood. Therefore, simulations are needed to understand this process and to help interpret experimental observations of it, such as with attosecond transient absorption (ATA). In this paper, we present first-principles simulations of ATA based on bulk-mimicking clusters and real-time time-dependent density functional theory (RT-TDDFT), with Koopmans-tuned range-separated hybrid functionals and Gaussian basis sets. Our method gives good agreement with the experiment for the breakdown threshold in silica and diamond. This breakdown voltage corresponds to a Keldysh …
