Examining Hospital Mergers And Acquisitions From A Supply Chain Perspective: Applications For Public Hospitals In Louisiana, Jamar O'Neal Powell
Examining Hospital Mergers And Acquisitions From A Supply Chain Perspective: Applications For Public Hospitals In Louisiana, Jamar O'Neal Powell
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Public hospitals undergoing mergers and acquisitions (M&As) often encounter complex supply chain challenges that disrupt operations, decrease efficiency, and jeopardize financial sustainability. Ineffective post-merger integration may result in increased costs, lower employee performance, and diminished patient satisfaction. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine whether key post-merger supply chain strategies: supply chain integration, vendor consolidation, inventory rationalization, and healthcare landscape evolution (independent variables) were significantly associated with hospital performance outcomes: supply chain efficiency, employee performance, employee satisfaction, patient care experiences, and financial efficiency (dependent variables). Grounded in organizational change theory, this study utilized a secondary data analysis design …

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects: College of Nursing
Background: As our society ages, falls have emerged as a leading cause of accidental injury and death globally, significantly impacting older adults’ quality of life (Matchar et al., 2017; WHO, 2021). The consequences of falls are profound, encompassing physical injuries, psychological distress, and substantial healthcare costs. In the U.S., Medicare spends approximately $31.3 billion annually on fall-related care (Gettel et al., 2020). These statistics underscore the need for standardized fall prevention strategies in primary care.
Purpose: This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project aimed to implement a standardized systems-level process change for fall risk screening and education during Medicare Annual …
Reverse Engineering Of Binary Programs Using Graph Attention Networks, Sai Nikhila Kanigiri
Reverse Engineering Of Binary Programs Using Graph Attention Networks, Sai Nikhila Kanigiri
Master's Theses
Understanding the functionality and behavior of binary code is essential for many software engineering tasks, including malware analysis, vulnerability detection, and program optimization. However, automating this process is challenging due to the complexity of machine code and the significant manual effort required from experienced software engineers. In this paper, we present BinGAT (Reverse Engineering of Binary Programs using Graph Attention Networks), a method for classifying binary programs into algorithmic categories using Graph Attention Neural Networks (GNNs) based on their Control-Flow Graphs (CFGs). Given a binary program, BinGAT extracts its CFG through static analysis and transforms the assembly instructions within each …
X-Ray Polarization Of Accreting Stellar-Mass Black Holes Through Accretion States, Nicole Rodriguez Cavero
X-Ray Polarization Of Accreting Stellar-Mass Black Holes Through Accretion States, Nicole Rodriguez Cavero
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
In recent years, X-ray polarization has opened up a new window into our understanding of astrophysical sources. Among them are accreting stellar-mass black holes, which play a key role in testing the behavior of matter in extreme gravitational environments. These sources can be observed in different states of the accretion cycle, predominantly in the soft and hard states. Every state is dominated by a combination of thermal disk, coronal, or reflected emission—each type containing different information about the environment around the black hole that can be understood through polarization. Polarimeters such as the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer and XL-Calibur allow …

Music And Cognition: How To Keep The Brain On Beat, Rylen Sakamoto
Student Scholar Symposium Abstracts and Posters
Music, as the conversion of words and sounds into expressive art, has been often used as a form of catharsis or emotional regulation. While research on common mood outcomes from music exists, further examination is necessary, as this knowledge, once fully understood, can be applied beyond music therapy, and be utilized to enhance our cognitive efficiency. Current research includes Music Mood Theory, which suggests that music has a meaningful impact on our moods, which correlate with behaviors such as maintaining tempo and harmony (Hu, 2010). The purpose of this study was to establish a deeper perspective on the impact music …

There is a need for novel therapies for patients with previously treated HER2-positive gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma (GEA). This phase 1 (NCT02892123) dose-escalation and expansion trial evaluated zanidatamab (a dual HER2-targeted bispecific antibody) ± chemotherapy in previously treated patients with HER2-expressing, locally advanced/metastatic cancers. Here, we report the outcomes for GEA cohorts receiving zanidatamab monotherapy or with chemotherapy (paclitaxel or capecitabine). The primary endpoint was safety and tolerability. Secondary endpoints were objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate, progression-free survival, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity. Seventy patients were enrolled (n = 29 monotherapy; n = 41 combination therapy); most received prior HER2-targeted agents (monotherapy, …

"Significant Bodily Intrusions": Investigations Into Law Enforcement Phlebotomy, Anne Kathleen Johnson
Dissertations and Theses
This three-paper dissertation explores law enforcement phlebotomy, the ability of law enforcement officers to draw blood. Phlebotomy is both a ubiquitous, invasive diagnostic tool as well as a social site with complex relational dynamics at play between phlebotomist and patient. Through law enforcement phlebotomy, the blood draw is co-opted from the medical field into the policing field, and the normative framework through which it is used changes: whereas medical edicts instruct providers to work with patients through an ethics of care--respecting consent and refusal--policing is not similarly bound, instead operating through a prioritization of security and efficiency. In the articles …
Demography Of Alligator Snapping Turtles (Macrochelys Temminckii) Along A Fishing Pressure Gradient, Luke T. Micek
Demography Of Alligator Snapping Turtles (Macrochelys Temminckii) Along A Fishing Pressure Gradient, Luke T. Micek
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Passive fishing gear is a threat to the alligator snapping turtle (Macrochelys temminckii). The spatio-temporal persistence of this threat and its impacts on M. temminckii populations has not been quantified. I quantified the density of passive fishing gear and the demographic parameters of M. temminckii along a fishing pressure gradient in East Texas streams. Most gear was abandoned and illegally deployed, with densities varying seasonally. Detectability of passive fishing gear declined with increasing gear age, water depth, and volume, but increased with increasing precipitation. Macrochelys temminckii catch per unit effort, abundance, and survival was lower at sites with …

The therapeutic landscape in ALL has changed dramatically over the last decade. Allogeneic blood or marrow transplantation (AlloBMT) has also evolved and remains an important option for consolidation. We assessed the interplay between these factors by analyzing the outcomes of 251 adult ALL (214 B and 37 T ALL) patients undergoing alloBMT with post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCy) across two eras: 2008-2014 (ERA1) and 2015-2022 (ERA2). ERA1 patients were younger (median age 45.5 vs. 50, p=0.03), less likely to have an HCT-CI ≥4 (9% vs. 21%, p=0.01), more likely to have MRD by flow cytometry (20% vs. 9%, p=0.01) and receive myeloablative …

Hippocampal-Prefrontal Functional Neural Networks In A Rat Model Of Fragile X Syndrome Are Poorly Organized With Limited Resiliency, Mohamed Ouardouz, Patrick Jasinski, Mohamed Khalife, J. Matthew Mahoney, Amanda E. Hernan, Rod C. Scott
Department of Neurology Faculty Papers
Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a common cause of autism spectrum symptoms. The genetic mutation results in multiple molecular alterations that are hypothesized to negatively impact neural circuit development although the nature of any functional neural dynamic consequences remain unclear. Therefore, the characteristics of hippocampal-prefrontal (H-PFC) network dysfunction were investigated in a rat model of FXS. FMR-KO and control rats underwent behavioral tests assessing sociability, memory, and anxiety to validate and replicate previously recognized deficits. Single-unit electrophysiology in the H-PFC circuit during exploration was used to measure patterns of action potential firing that were then compared between groups using generalized …

Learning processes in medical practices in medicinal schools put more emphasis on the hard sciences than they do on developing soft skills like empathy and communication. For this reason, the medical humanities emerged to provide a "different" take on the creative process. Medical ethics, the doctor-patient relationship, clinical research, mental illness, and professionalism are just a few of the topics that have been utilized to discuss in medical school. A strong connection between classroom learning and clinical experience is crucial for medical school graduates. Students graduating from a medical program are expected to have experience with patient care, clinical procedures, …

The Fair Credit Reporting Act, David J. Fletcher
The Fair Credit Reporting Act, David J. Fletcher
Maine Law Review
With the increasing importance of credit in the United States economy, a specialized group of agencies has developed to supply businesses with personal information on consumers. These reporting agencies come in two basic forms. Credit bureaus deal with purely economic data and use a file system to develop their reports. Investigative consumer reporting agencies issue a more comprehensive report which is generally the result of a field investigation. Because of subjective judgments, errors of identification, or use of untrustworthy sources, consumer reports often are inaccurate. The direct result of most inaccuracy is harm to the report's subject, the consumer. An …

Bernier V. State - The Right To Counsel In Entrustment Revocation Proceedings, Peter J. Detroy
Maine Law Review
Theodore Bernier was adjudicated a juvenile offender in September, 1966, and was subsequently committed to the Boys Training Center (BTC) for the term of his minority. In February, 1968, he was released on entrustment to his parents. Almost a year and a half later, Bernier was questioned by local police regarding his possible involvement in the theft of greenstamps from a local store. Although he was released without the police taking further action, they notified an aftercare and placement worker assigned to the BTC of the questioning. As a result, the BTC revoked the entrustment, and the police took him …
Conservation, Policy And The Role Of Counsel, David J. Halperin
Conservation, Policy And The Role Of Counsel, David J. Halperin
Maine Law Review
The conservation interests in the State of Maine have been roused to a furor by the decision of Maine's highest court in State v. Johnson. The case, in substance, holds that Maine's Wetlands Act is unconstitutional when applied to prohibit the filling of a specific segment of salt water marsh. While both the decision and the underlying statute are of considerable substantive interest, the case deserves particular study for the light it sheds on the role of counsel in helping the legal process accommodate new policy concerns. A note of caution must, of course, be sounded before seeking to generalize …

Ransoming The Maine Environment, G. Graham Waite
Maine Law Review
The call for natural resource conservation is widely heard today. Purity of air and water are goals that most persons seem to endorse, at least in the abstract. The dollar costs of governmental programs for achieving relatively clean air and water doubtless are high, making questions of who bears them important. Some recent decisions of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court suggest that in Maine the major costs will be paid by taxpayers at large rather than by individual resource users.

De Novo Juries, Misdemeanor Counsel, And Other Problems: Changes Ahead For The Maine District Courts?, Pierce B. Hasler
Maine Law Review
The Maine judicial system has two levels of criminal courts, the superior court having exclusive trial jurisdiction over felony prosecutions and the district court operating with concurrent trial jurisdiction for misdemeanors. The district court also processes the preliminary phases of felony cases; included in this function are bail hearings, initial appearances (arraignments), and preliminary hearings. To provide jury trials in misdemeanor prosecutions state law permits all district court convictions to be appealed to the superior court for trial de novo to a jury. The accepted reason for unlimited de novo trials is that the state constitution requires a jury in …

The Constitutional Law Of Remedies In Welfare Litigation, Donald F. Fontaine
Maine Law Review
It is becoming increasingly obvious that the problems of poor people in the United States are dependent, more than those of other classes, upon the proper administration of government agencies. The contact of poor people with government agencies involves most of their chief concerns in life: Welfare, social security, adequate health care, adequate income from work, a safe and healthy place to live, whether privately or publicly owned, and schools that provide real education without racial or economic discrimination. Where payments are improperly withheld from a presumably destitute recipient, the need for a speedy and adequate remedy should be obvious. …

Search And Seizure, Daniel G. Lilley
Search And Seizure, Daniel G. Lilley
Maine Law Review
Search and Seizure, authored by Colorado Judge Edward C. Fisher, is a book of better than 300 pages which purports to be a recent survey of the law dedicated to "peace officers of America." The foreword states that it is written for law enforcement officers and is a ready reference for attorneys, judges, and others concerned with the administration of criminal justice. The book is clearly written. It tells police officers how to conduct searches and seizures and it tells them why restrictions are imposed. Where there is still conflict and doubt, it gives the officer some "safe" approaches to …
