Guru Shishya Parampara: A Phenomenological Exploration Of Character Development Through Immersion, Shilpan Sheth Jul 2026

Guru Shishya Parampara: A Phenomenological Exploration Of Character Development Through Immersion, Shilpan Sheth

Dissertations

Processes that support the intentional effort to manifest virtue remain an under-described and poorly understood area of education research. In the literature, it is identified that immersion - a state of deep affective or cognitive engagement with one’s environment - holds implications for character development. Exploring the guru shishya parampara ((गुरुिश पररा), a pedagogical tradition with roots in Vedic culture, through the lived experiences of an expert musician, this study relates immersive experiences to personal transformation. Data from interviews, lectures, and articles were analyzed. From the data, immersive experiences of the guru shishya tradition are understood to be embodied, intrinsic, …

Construct Overlap Inflates Apparent Economic-Capacity Alignment: Evidence From A Hebei City Panel, 2014–2023, Shuo Pang, Jianguang Hou, Danlin Yu Jul 2026

Construct Overlap Inflates Apparent Economic-Capacity Alignment: Evidence From A Hebei City Panel, 2014–2023, Shuo Pang, Jianguang Hou, Danlin Yu

Department of Earth and Environmental Studies Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Index-based urban sustainability studies often ask whether urban resilience and economic development evolve harmoniously, but the answer is unreliable when the two constructs contain the same economic indicators. A targeted audit of recent Chinese coupling studies shows that economic variables are commonly embedded in urban-resilience systems without a reported construct-overlap weight check. Using Hebei, China, as a measurement-validity test rather than as another provincial economic-growth case, this study analyzes a balanced 2014–2023 panel of 11 prefecture-level cities. Duplicated economic concepts account for 44.4% of the baseline resilience-index entropy weight and 88.2% of the baseline economic-index weight, indicating substantial mechanical exposure …

A Tropically Hot Late Jurassic North American Sundance Sea: Evidence For The Oxfordian Warm Interval, R. W. Reynolds, R. Jerrett, A. Marca, M. Davies, S. M. Bernasconi, R. B. Paxton, G. Nowell, P. Dennis, U. Balthasar, G. D. Price

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

The Late Jurassic greenhouse climate was characterized by elevated atmospheric CO2 (pCO2) at 600–1,000 ppm and sea-surface temperatures substantially warmer than today. These conditions peaked during the Oxfordian, when extensive epicontinental seaways, including the North American Sundance Sea, dominated mid-latitude paleoceanography. We present clumped isotope (Δ47) and 87Sr/86Sr analyses of Oxfordian belemnite and Gryphaea fossils from the Sundance Sea to reconstruct paleotemperatures (tΔ47) and assess the balance between open ocean and terrestrial inputs. The data reveal (a) a mean tΔ47 of 30.6°C (±1.6 1SE), or 27.6°C (±1.6 1SE) if …

Physiological Impacts Of Plastic Ingestion On Sea Turtles, Heather Seaman Jul 2026

Physiological Impacts Of Plastic Ingestion On Sea Turtles, Heather Seaman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present

Over the years, plastic production has increased to astonishing numbers and is predicted to continue. Over time, environmental plastic will degrade into smaller pieces, which sea turtles can mistake for prey. Chemicals associated with plastics have been identified in tissues of sea turtles, and some are suspected to be endocrine disruptors. Sea turtles are known to ingest plastics, but more information is needed to illuminate the potential physiological impacts plastic chemicals may have on sea turtles. This study compared plastic ingestion and toxicant levels across species and ontogenically, as different species and life stages inhabit different areas which will influence …

Rethinking Learning From Incidents In Healthcare: A Safety-Ii Model Integrating Work-As-Imagined, Work-As-Done, And Work-As-Experienced, Nawal Khattabi, Axel Ros, Matt Carey, Aled Jones Jul 2026

Rethinking Learning From Incidents In Healthcare: A Safety-Ii Model Integrating Work-As-Imagined, Work-As-Done, And Work-As-Experienced, Nawal Khattabi, Axel Ros, Matt Carey, Aled Jones

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Healthcare organizations increasingly investigate patient safety incidents using systems thinking. However, even investigations that claim to adopt a systems approach frequently revert to linear, event-focused reasoning concluding on deviations and recommending further training. A foundational question remains unresolved: when an incident review identifies a "deviation", does this represent exceptional behavior or the system's typical mode of operation that generally succeeds under varying conditions but occasionally fails? Without this distinction, explanations for incidents tend to focus on individual non-compliance rather than understanding the everyday adaptations that enable care delivery in a complex adaptive system. Consequently, incident reviews that promote system learning …

A Closer Look At The Relationship Between Workplace Harassment And Negative Workplace Behavior: The Mediating Role Of Revenge Cognitions And The Moderating Role Of Fear Of Internal Threat, Keely L. Sinclair Smith Jul 2026

A Closer Look At The Relationship Between Workplace Harassment And Negative Workplace Behavior: The Mediating Role Of Revenge Cognitions And The Moderating Role Of Fear Of Internal Threat, Keely L. Sinclair Smith

Master's Theses

The purpose of the current study was to provide a closer look at the relationship between workplace harassment and negative workplace behavior by investigating the mediating role of revenge cognitions and the moderating role of fear of internal threat, a novel construct that included both formal and informal organizational sanctions. A sample of 103 employees from a variety of occupational backgrounds participated in the study by completing an online survey. Results of the simple mediation analysis showed that workplace harassment was positively related to negative workplace behavior, and revenge cognitions fully mediated this relationship. In other words, employees who experienced …

This research is a modified replication of Salas-Provance et al. (2002) and analyzes the perceptions of speech-language therapy among one Mexican-American family. It investigates opinions about causes of speech-language disorders, for whom speech therapy can be helpful, characteristics and stereotypes about people with hearing and speech disorders, and the influence of education level on such opinions. With the assistance of three family members and two cultural informants, an online survey was developed consisting of demographic factors, Mexican folk and medical beliefs, and potential stereotypes of people with speech, language, and hearing disabilities. Twenty-three family members (response rate = 76.7%) completed …

Application Of Machine Learning For Correcting Defect-Induced Neuromorphic Circuit Inference Errors, Vedant V. Sawal, Hiu Yung Wong Jul 2026

Application Of Machine Learning For Correcting Defect-Induced Neuromorphic Circuit Inference Errors, Vedant V. Sawal, Hiu Yung Wong

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

This paper presents a machine learning-based approach to correct inference errors caused by stuck-at faults in fully analog ReRAM-based neuromorphic circuits. Using a Design-Technology Co-Optimization (DTCO) simulation framework, the study models and analyzes six spatial defect types - circular, circular-complement, ring, row, column, and checkerboard - across multiple layers of a multi-array neuromorphic architecture for handwritten digit recognition tasks. It is demonstrated that the proposed correction method, which employs a lightweight neural network trained on the circuit's 10 output voltages, can improve inference accuracy from 55% to 90% (+ 35 percentage points) in highly degraded defective scenarios. Results show that …

Today’S Christianity: Are We In The Mirror Universe? A Comparison Of Petrine Christianity And The Gospel Of Mary Via The Heroine’S Journey, Blythe A. Collier Jul 2026

Today’S Christianity: Are We In The Mirror Universe? A Comparison Of Petrine Christianity And The Gospel Of Mary Via The Heroine’S Journey, Blythe A. Collier

Mythcon

What if there was an alternative to Joseph Campbell’s so-called ‘Monomyth’? What if we could dodge yet another rehash of the tired old trope of an oversimplified, Eurocentric ‘Hero’s Journey’? The monomyth is often considered the sine qua non of archetypal modern Western literature. We can easily pick out some of its described elements within both J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Silmarillion, and in C. S. Lewis’ Narnia series—as well as within Petrine Christianity, which is the mythic structural basis of both the contemporary bible, and also the fabled worlds of Tolkien and Lewis.

But …

Using Fecal Diagnostic Tests To Assess The Prevalence Of Fasciola Hepatica In The United States Sheep Population, Brooke A. Delcambre

LSU Master's Theses

Fasciola hepatica, the common liver fluke, is endemic in the Pacific Northwest and Gulf Coast of the United States. To provide updated information on F. hepatica prevalence, as part of the USDA National Animal Health Monitoring System Sheep 2024 study, sheep operations in the top 30 sheep-producing states were identified, and producers were invited to participate. For each operation, feces were collected from at least eight sheep and pooled to form a single composite sample. Two methods were used to identify sheep infected with F. hepatica: fecal sedimentation and indirect sandwich ELISA. At the national level, across 318 operations, 7.1 …

Development Of Proposed Airworthiness Certification Criteria For Interference-Tolerant Radio Altimeter Systems, Matheus B. Furstenberger

Student Works

Radio altimeters provide height-above-ground information to flight deck displays and multiple safety-critical aircraft systems, however legacy certification standards were not developed for high-power terrestrial wireless services operating in adjacent C-Band spectrum. This study addressed the absence of a consolidated airworthiness certification framework for interference-tolerant radio altimeter systems installed on Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 25 transport category airplanes. An archival research synthesis was conducted using publicly available regulations, proposed and final rules, technical standard orders, advisory circulars, airworthiness directives, industry standards, spectrum-management documents, technical studies, and stakeholder comments. Qualitative content analysis and source triangulation were used to identify …

The Tragedy Of The Cognitive Commons: How Ai Could Disrupt The Regeneration Of Professional Expertise, Nolan C. Lovett Jul 2026

The Tragedy Of The Cognitive Commons: How Ai Could Disrupt The Regeneration Of Professional Expertise, Nolan C. Lovett

Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Faculty Publications

Artificial intelligence is reshaping cognitive work, but Human Resource Development scholarship has treated this transformation as an organizational training challenge, leaving the collective regeneration of professional expertise unexamined. This conceptual paper introduces the Cognitive Commons framework, integrating commons theory, HRD scholarship, and distributed cognition to explain how rational AI adoption decisions can deplete the shared expertise pool professions require for renewal. The framework distinguishes Internalized Mastery (deep domain knowledge from sustained practice) from Distributed Mastery (orchestrating human-AI systems), and develops the Validation Tether: effective AI oversight depends on the expertise AI adoption may undermine. Early labor market and clinical evidence …

Cervical Cancer Prevention Awareness Among Women Attending Primary Health Care Centres In Baghdad City, Iraq, Rebecca Lawes, Suhailah M. Ali, Aqdas D Salman Jul 2026

Cervical Cancer Prevention Awareness Among Women Attending Primary Health Care Centres In Baghdad City, Iraq, Rebecca Lawes, Suhailah M. Ali, Aqdas D Salman

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Cervical cancer is the third most frequent malignancy in women worldwide. Although cervical cancer has great potential for prevention through screening with Human Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing and cytology-based Pap smears, it accounts for up to 6.9% of all female cancer cases. Women in low- and middle-income countries account for the great majority of fatalities. This study investigates women’s awareness of cervical cancer prevention through early detection or screening. In this cross-sectional study, 400 women attending two primary healthcare centres in Baghdad, Iraq, between February 1st and June 20th, 2025, were randomly recruited to assess their awareness of cervical cancer …

Fangorn Forest As A Rerouting To The Ecological Contemplative In The Two Towers, Nicholas Birns Jul 2026

Fangorn Forest As A Rerouting To The Ecological Contemplative In The Two Towers, Nicholas Birns

Mythcon

In The Two Towers, Fangorn Forest initially appears as an uncanny diversion when Merry and Pippin flee into its shadowy depths to escape Saruman’s Uruk-hai. Their encounter with Treebeard awakens the Ents, providing unexpected and devastating flow to the power of Saruman the White. Far from actually being scary or horrifying, though, the forest is actually the gateway to two very important qualities in The Lord of the Rings: a sense of deep psychology, of caring for the land so much that sentient being has become actually bound up with natural entities, and of contemplation, as Treebeard Who …

Continuing Christopher Tolkien’S Work In A Digital Age, James K. Tauber Jul 2026

Continuing Christopher Tolkien’S Work In A Digital Age, James K. Tauber

Journal of Tolkien Research

Christopher Tolkien’s 12-volume History of Middle-earth is a remarkable achievement, yet Christopher repeatedly acknowledged how difficult the material was to present in print form and that “that there was no really satisfactory solution”.  This paper contends that a printed book is not scholarship but just one way of presenting its results. It explores how digital philology can overcome some of the limitations of print, giving examples from the Digital Tolkien Project. It shows how structural markup, version alignment, parallel reading environments, and other approaches can make relationships between drafts and published texts clearer. Importantly, these methods do not replace Christopher’s …

This article examines how one community college dental hygiene program implemented revisions to a clinical assessment tool to better support novice learners. A review of the literature explores the characteristics of early learners, psychomotor skill acquisition, the Dreyfus model, and assessment tools. The method used was a descriptive case study designed to address the research question: What processes did a dental hygiene program use to implement revisions to a clinical assessment tool to support students’ development of essential clinical skills? The findings highlight the importance of aligning assessment tools with learners’ developmental stages to enhance clinical education and offer a …

Are Uninterpretable Features Unlearnable? Revisiting The Interpretability Hypothesis In Second Language English Acquisition, Salma Musleh Alqahtani Jul 2026

Are Uninterpretable Features Unlearnable? Revisiting The Interpretability Hypothesis In Second Language English Acquisition, Salma Musleh Alqahtani

Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities

The Interpretability Hypothesis (IH) predicts that uninterpretable features absent in the L1 become inaccessible in adulthood, whereas Full Access theories maintain that Universal Grammar (UG) remains available. Despite extensive research, it remains unclear whether elevated resumption acceptance in L2 learners reflects a representational deficit or processing-based strategies, and no study has examined the role of working memory in this distinction for Saudi learners. This study tested whether Saudi learners of English show L1 transfer in accepting resumptive pronouns (RPs), grammatical in Arabic but ungrammatical in English, and whether this reflects representational deficits or processing limits. A total of 164 Saudi …

Algorithmic Bias In Ai: Preparing Nurses For Critical And Culturally Safe Engagement, Claire Song, Tanvir Gill, Pamela Cawley Jul 2026

Algorithmic Bias In Ai: Preparing Nurses For Critical And Culturally Safe Engagement, Claire Song, Tanvir Gill, Pamela Cawley

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

AI is increasingly used in healthcare and education, often framed as a tool for efficiency and objectivity. Yet, these systems are trained on data shaped by Western biomedical norms, reproducing structural and cultural biases. Deep learning does not create new knowledge; it reorganizes existing information. When that data-electronic health records, clinical trials, DSM-based tools- reflects Western perspectives, inequities are amplified under the guise of neutrality.

Consider mental health tools built on DSM frameworks, which pathologize non-Western expressions of distress. Despite the American Psychiatric Association’s 2021 acknowledgment of structural racism, AI-driven assessments still rely on instruments like PHQ-9 and GAD-7. Bias …

Discovery And Implications For Ore Prospecting Of Gravitational Gliding Structures In The Lutang Coal-Based Graphite Mining Area, Hunan Province, China, Xiao Jincheng, Lu Jiang, Liu Zhiyu, Zhu Linying, Xiao Haibin, Li Long, Xiao Jing

Coal Geology & Exploration

Background Data from previous exploration and studies indicate that the Lutang coal-based graphite mining area in Hunan Province falls within the Lutang-Shatian synclinorium in terms of tectonic location, with coal-bearing strata dominated by the upper member of the Upper Permian Longtan Formation. Influenced by the intrusion of granites, coal seams adjacent to the Qitianling pluton on the eastern flank of the mining area have undergone contact metamorphism, forming coal-based graphite. Previous exploration results suggest that the Qitianling pluton has a maximum burial depth measured at an elevation of 0 m or less. However, with constant underground exposure in mines, previous …
