Exploring The Lived Experiences Of University Students With Lyme Disease: A Qualitative Transcendental Phenomenological Study, Rebekah A. Russell

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This qualitative transcendental phenomenological study aimed to describe the lived experiences of students with persistent or reoccurring Lyme disease symptoms post-treatment within the context of higher education institutions. Guided by Nancy Schlossberg’s transition theory, the research sought to explore the challenges students encountered while experiencing lasting symptoms of Lyme disease post-treatment. The central research question driving the inquiry was: What are the lived experiences of students contending with persistent or reoccurring Lyme disease symptoms post-treatment while pursuing higher education? Employing a transcendental phenomenological method, the study utilized journal prompts, interviews, and two focus groups comprised of students who have navigated …

“You Learn To Control What You Can Control”: A Mixed-Methods Examination Of Burnout In Rural Pk–12 Administrators Using The Pillar-Integration Process, Brooke Hildebrand Clubbs, Eu Gene Chin, Rollin D. Nordgren

Journal of Educational Research and Practice

Teacher burnout is a growing concern among educators and the communities they serve, due to a nationwide shortage of teachers. Burnout of principals and other school administrators, however, is relatively unexamined. This mixed-methods study of pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade (PK-12) administrators in rural Midwestern school districts found that contributors to burnout included safety concerns and student behavior, lack of resources and support, and mandatory assessments of student learning. Factors that mitigated burnout included choosing to protect personal energy, getting support from colleagues and administrators, and making a difference in students’ lives. Forty-three administrators completed a survey adapted from the Maslach …

Analyzing Waste Flows On A College Campus: A Waste Characterization Study At California State University San Marcos, Caitlin R. Hansen Jun 2025

Analyzing Waste Flows On A College Campus: A Waste Characterization Study At California State University San Marcos, Caitlin R. Hansen

CSU Journal of Sustainability and Climate Change

The foundation of sustainability and improving a system is to first understand its components. Waste management is a vastly complex issue, with an increasing number of material types and ever-changing regulations. Sorting and processing refuse is a fundamental aspect of society that often goes unmeasured due to its complex nature. To grow sustainably, it is imperative to classify, categorize, and quantify the waste we create daily. This study builds upon existing on-campus large-scale waste audits conducted by EDCO, the California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) waste hauler, which quantifies the amount and types of waste removed from campus. However, this …

Acting On Behalf Of An Endangered Species - A Student-Led Initiative To Protect The San Joaquin Kit Fox (Vulpes Macrotis Mutica) On The Csub Campus, Antje Lauer, Sarah Alame, Brittney Beck, Lucas Hall

CSU Journal of Sustainability and Climate Change

California State University Bakersfield (CSUB) is the only campus in the U.S. that has supported an endangered canine species on its campus grounds for many decades. Deprived of its prime habitat, open grassland, the San Joaquin kit fox (SJKF) (Vulpes macrotis mutica) was able to adapt to urban areas in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The presence of an endangered species on campus grounds comes with responsibilities and requires knowledge of the Endangered Species Act (ESA). In the spring of 2023, students and faculty observed several violations of the ESA by CSUB Facilities Management due to ground disturbance and …

Uncovering Political Agendas: A Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis Of Philippine Government Agencies’ Websites, Giulia Renee B. Singson, Justine Gabrielle L. Yu, Julia Cailean G. Dueñas, Charlaine G. Alodaga

DLSU Senior High School Research Congress

The role of websites in communicating government services and updates to constituents is paramount since they can serve as dependable hubs of critical information. However, since these are government websites, there may be politics behind their visual and textual contents that need to be uncovered. Yet, there has been a dearth of studies, especially in the Philippine context, that scrutinized the sociopolitical forces that are at play in the production of these website contents. Hence, in this study, we attempted to continue seamlessly meshing the critical discourse analysis framework of Fairclough with a multimodal analytical model in dissecting the top …

Bioluminescent bacteria are light-emitting microorganisms that are commonly found among marine species. In this study, bioluminescent bacteria were isolated from squid samples and submerged in selected water samples from Ylang-Ylang River and Dasmariñas Zone I River in Dasmariñas, Cavite, to determine whether it can be a potential water pollution indicator based on its bioluminescence intensity. The squid ink extracted from 6 squid samples was streaked on marine agar plates and incubated for 24 hours. The microplates were filled with 0.75 μL bioluminescent bacteria and 0.75 μL of polluted water samples and sterile water per three rows, where the light intensities …

In the face of injustice and oppression, history remembers those who dared to resist. GomBurZa (2023), directed by Pepe Diokno, follows the story of the three martyred priests—Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora—whose execution in 1872 ignited a national awakening during the Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines (Agbayani III, 2022). This qualitative study explored how the Baby Boomer Generation and Generation Z in Metro Manila received and interpreted the film. It reflected whether their views about Gomburza evolved and revealed converging and diverging opinions within and between the two generations. Despite the Philippines being one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries, research on the role of social media in its disaster risk management remains limited. This study addresses that gap through a systematic review of existing literature on social media use in Philippine disaster risk management. Results show that social media is primarily employed in response to typhoons and earthquakes, while its application to other hazards such as COVID-19, floods, and vegetation fires remains underexplored. Usage is concentrated in the response and recovery phases, with minimal attention to prevention and no studies focused on mitigation. Notable best practices include real-time …

One such area affected is Laguna Boulevard, a critical road connecting multiple essential facilities in Biñan and Sta. Rosa, including Laguna Technopark and educational institutions like De La Salle University Laguna Campus and Caritas Don Bosco School. The roadway experiences significant congestion during peak hours due to high traffic volumes along segments and intersections impacted by uncoordinated road expansions, inconsistent transitions between one-way and two-way flows, limited sight distances, and obstructive roadside elements that collectively disrupt vehicular movement and compromise safety. This study proposes a replanned …

In 2023, the three-decade territorial dispute between the cities of Makati and Taguig ended when the Supreme Court ruled to transfer the ten Embo barangays to the latter. One significant consequence of this ruling is the discontinuation of assistance to former Makati residents, particularly healthcare benefits. Understanding how this ruling affects residents’ experiences can provide insights for policy recommendations promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 16. This phenomenological study, grounded in the Adapted Levesque’s Conceptual Framework, gathered data from six participants who were at least 10-year residents of Embo barangay and beneficiaries of Makati and Taguig public …
