Effect Of Moringa Oil And Flaxseed Oil On Lipid Profile Of Male Rats Exposed To Carbendazim, Muhammad Hashim, Isam M. Abu Zeid, Atef M. Al-Attar
The Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Science
Carbendazim (CBZ), a commonly used fungicide, has been linked to adverse effects on the lipid profile. This study investigated whether Moringa and Flaxseed oils could mitigate CBZ-induced toxicity in male rats. Sixty male rats were divided into six groups: control, CBZ (200 mg/kg) treated, CBZ + Moringa Oil, CBZ + Flaxseed Oil, Moringa treated, and Flaxseed Oil treated. The oils were administered at 800 mg/kg for six weeks. Lipid parameters, including total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerols (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL), were analyzed. CBZ elevated TC, TG, LDL, and VLDL levels, while reducing HDL. Moringa …
The Effect Of Trade Openness, Financial Development, And Economic Progress On Pollution In Gulf Countries, Lamia Mohamed Jamel
The Effect Of Trade Openness, Financial Development, And Economic Progress On Pollution In Gulf Countries, Lamia Mohamed Jamel
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Economics and Administration
This paper presents an empirical investigation into the causal relationship between economic growth (GDP), financial development, trade openness, and CO2 emissions (environmental degradation) in seven Gulf economies from 1990 to 2022. The Ordinary Least Squares technique is employed to analyze panel data. The analysis utilizes the Cobb-Douglas production function to examine the causal link. The empirical results reveal a bidirectional Granger causal relationship between GDP and CO2 emissions and trade openness and pollution in Gulf economies. The existence of the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis is confirmed through the causal link between GDP and environmental pollutants. Additionally, the neutrality …

Commitment and betrayal are key aspects of a relationship that have impact on the quality or health of the relationship. The purpose of this paper was to use qualitative grounded theory methods to explore how commitment and betrayal are experienced in intimate relationships and to explore the outcomes of both. The data were taken from a larger project on healthy and unhealthy relationships where participants were recruited through convenience and theoretical sampling. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and constructivist grounded theory methods were used to code, generate, and refine prominent categories in the data. Findings revealed that commitment is experienced through …
Algebraic Multigrid Methods For Nonsymmetric And Indefinite Problems: Theory And Applications, Ahsan Ali
Algebraic Multigrid Methods For Nonsymmetric And Indefinite Problems: Theory And Applications, Ahsan Ali
Mathematics & Statistics ETDs
Algebraic multigrid (AMG) is a well-established and highly efficient solver for symmetric positive definite (SPD) systems arising from elliptic and parabolic PDEs, while nonsymmetric systems from hyperbolic PDEs remain a significant challenge. This dissertation develops AMG methods and theory for nonsymmetric problems. First, we develop a novel approach combining mode constraints from energy-minimization AMG with local approximations of ideal restriction in $\ell$AIR, resulting in constrained $\ell$AIR (C$\ell$AIR), which demonstrates scalable convergence across advective and diffusive problems. Second, we extend optimal AMG theory by deriving spectral radius estimates for the two-grid error transfer operator using matrix-induced orthogonality, enabling convergence predictions for …

Department of Earth and Environmental Studies Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
The 2.5 km long Gowanus Canal (Brooklyn, NY, USA) is a severely contaminated urban waterway dating from the mid-19th century, listed as a US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Superfund site since 2010. Applying an environmental forensics approach to the extensive USEPA data set, we detect systematic variations in parent PAH ring number distributions in the canal sediments, as well as an extraordinary enrichment in organic carbon. We subjected a supplemental sample set to a more detailed analysis by quantitative pyrolysis-GC-MS, Rock-Eval pyrolysis, and organic petrology. With these sensitive methods, we can confirm the alkyl-PAH fingerprint of coal tar (a legacy …

Modeling Steady-State Navier-Stokes Flow Using Structure-Preserving Truncated Hierarchical B-Splines, Daira Sofia Velasco Vega
Modeling Steady-State Navier-Stokes Flow Using Structure-Preserving Truncated Hierarchical B-Splines, Daira Sofia Velasco Vega
Theses and Dissertations
Accurate simulation of incompressible steady-state fluid flow is critical for engineering applications where mass conservation, numerical stability, and geometric fidelity are essential. This thesis develops and analyzes a structure-preserving isogeometric framework for steady-state incompressible Navier"“Stokes simulations using truncated hierarchical B-splines (THB-splines). By leveraging divergence-conforming spline spaces designed to keep the fluid's divergence exactly zero based on the mathematical de Rham complex, this method ensures the fluid remains incompressible everywhere without needing extra stabilization techniques. The use of THB-splines allows the mesh to be refined locally in areas where the flow changes sharply. It still keeps the solution smooth and ensures …

Assessing Effectiveness Of Runnel Restoration In New England Salt Marsh Habitats, David M. Burdick, Grant Mckown, Gregg Moore, Jenny Gibson, Wenley Ferguson, John Herbert, Nancy Pau, Susan Adamowicz, Geoff Wilson
Faculty Publications
Rising sea levels that increase flooding in salt marshes recovering from hydrologic impairments is reducing nesting habitat for salt marsh sparrows. Abandonment of colonial farming practices (1600s through 1900s) has resulted in large, waterlogged basins characterized by shallow depressions (pannes) dominated by short-form Spartina alterniflora and unvegetated megapools that are subsiding. A relatively new technique designed to provide regular tidal flooding and drainage to the waterlogged basins that have formed on the marsh is runnelling – creation of shallow hydrologic features on the marsh surface. Will runnels result in revegetation of pannes and pools with productive perennial grasses that are …
Popular Originalism, Thomas G. Donnelly
Popular Originalism, Thomas G. Donnelly
BYU Law Review
Scholars are obsessed with the Roberts Court’s recent turn to history and tradition. But another source of authority has also emerged as an important feature of the Roberts Court’s approach to constitutional cases. In previous work, I have referred to this source of authority as popular meaning. While original meaning identifies the best reading of the Constitution’s text at the time of its ratification, popular meaning draws on sources of authority outside the courts to capture the constitutional views of the American people today. In this Article, I demonstrate how interpreters might draw on the Constitution’s popular meaning to help …
“Context In Context”: The Collapse Of Title Ix’S Substantial Control Requirement, Morgan Bronson
“Context In Context”: The Collapse Of Title Ix’S Substantial Control Requirement, Morgan Bronson
BYU Law Review
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) plays a critical role in addressing sex discrimination in academic settings. Though the statute envisions robust administrative enforcement, courts have largely been responsible for shaping Title IX’s liability framework, including in cases involving student-on-student sexual harassment. In two early decisions, the Supreme Court introduced five conditions necessary to establish a federal funding recipient’s liability in such cases. Among them was a two-part “substantial control” requirement: the recipient must have exercised control over both the harasser and the context of the harassment. The Court, however, never clearly articulated these conditions, leading …
Challenging Behavior In The Early Childhood Classroom, Ashley L. Hoag
Challenging Behavior In The Early Childhood Classroom, Ashley L. Hoag
Masters Projects
In early childhood classrooms, it is becoming increasingly common for students to exhibit challenging behaviors. These behaviors present as either internalizing behaviors, such as anxiety, or as externalizing behaviors, such as defiance and aggression. These behaviors are impacting student learning and contributing to an increase in teacher stress and burnout. Early childhood educators feel underprepared to address these behaviors effectively. The project is grounded in Behaviorist Theory and Constructivist Theory. These theories inform Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), which is an evidence-based approach to managing challenging behaviors by focusing on reinforcement, the structure of the environment, and building important …

While IPV is often studied as a predictor of housing insecurity, few U.S. studies explore how different forms of housing instability may contribute to intimate partner violence (IPV) risk. Using a mixed-methods approach and a cross-sectional design, this study examined the association between four housing instability domains and IPV among a sample of tenants that had either experienced eviction or were at high risk for eviction. Tenants in Harris and Travis counties (Texas, USA) completed an online survey (n = 1085; March–July 2024). Housing instability was assessed across four domains: homelessness, lease violations, utility hardship, and poor housing quality. …
