Beyond Execution: Managerial Attributes For Successful Experiential Marketing, Joann Imosi Emale Aug 2026

Beyond Execution: Managerial Attributes For Successful Experiential Marketing, Joann Imosi Emale

All Dissertations

This study examined the relationship between what consumers value in experiential marketing events and the managerial competencies organizations seek when hiring experiential marketing roles. As brands increasingly compete on emotional and sensory engagement, the experiential marketing manager has become central to execution, yet the role remains loosely defined, and the skills it demands are rarely tied to what audiences respond to. This research addressed that gap by asking which event attributes consumers prized most, which respondent characteristics shaped those preferences, and what competencies employers asked for when they hired the managers who built these experiences.

Survey data were collected from …

Park Visitor Education And Landscape Conservation: Evaluating Education-Based Strategies To Mitigate Visitor-Caused Damage In Goblin Valley State Park, Jason Beukers

All Graduate Reports and Creative Projects, Fall 2023 to Present

Goblin Valley State Park contains rare and highly fragile geological formations that are increasingly impacted through visitor-caused damage. While the park’s open-range management approach enhances recreational freedom and the visitor experience, it also leaves vulnerable hoodoo formations susceptible to vandalism and damage by visitor behavior and exploration. Balancing public access with landscape preservation remains a persistent challenge, particularly in large, protected areas where staffing, enforcement, and management resources are limited. This thesis reviews the effectiveness of management strategies, particularly education-based strategies such as signage and visitor messaging, in reducing depreciative visitor behaviors in national and state parks and other protected …

Alternate Method For Determining The Liquid Pressure Recovery Factor, Bryson H. Parker Aug 2026

Alternate Method For Determining The Liquid Pressure Recovery Factor, Bryson H. Parker

All Graduate Reports and Creative Projects, Fall 2023 to Present

The term liquid pressure recovery factor aids in determining the flowrate through valves at the maximum flowrate under choking conditions. The pressure recovery factor can be difficult to determine for certain types of valves based on the industry standard procedure. This report looks at the current industry standard procedure and adds a procedure in the event of the industry standard not being feasible. Often it is not feasible for a testing facility to supply enough flow through the valve to reach the industry standard. The industry standard is to test the valve at the maximum flowrate with a constant upstream …

Criticality In A Heterogeneous Neutron Transport Rod Model, Samuel Kaleb Crowford Aug 2026

Criticality In A Heterogeneous Neutron Transport Rod Model, Samuel Kaleb Crowford

All Graduate Reports and Creative Projects, Fall 2023 to Present

This work studies the stochastic behavior of neutron populations in a one-dimensional rod model using Monte Carlo simulation. The first part of this project reproduces the computational results of Dumonteil, Horton, Kyprianou, and Zoia (2025) by independently implementing the Monte Carlo algorithm described in their article, with the asymptotic behavior of the first moment analyzed in relation to the dominant eigenvalue and adjoint eigenfunction of the neutron transport operator. The model is then extended to a heterogeneous setting by introducing a central region where fission is suppressed. A global expectation over initial positions and directions is used to estimate the …

Economic Efficiency Of End-Guns On Center Pivot Irrigation Systems For Utah Alfalfa Production, Sophia Moss Aug 2026

Economic Efficiency Of End-Guns On Center Pivot Irrigation Systems For Utah Alfalfa Production, Sophia Moss

All Graduate Reports and Creative Projects, Fall 2023 to Present

This study looks at whether using an end-gun on a center pivot irrigation system is financially worthwhile for Utah alfalfa producers. End-guns are used to water extra acreage beyond the end of a pivot, they can also apply water less evenly, which may reduce production on those outer acres. To examine this tradeoff, the study compares farm returns with and without an end-gun using historical Utah alfalfa price and yield data along with estimates of irrigation cost, added acreage, and possible yield loss. The results suggest that end-guns can improve profitability in many cases, mainly because they bring more acres …

Accelerating Rans Cfd Convergence For Bluff Body Flows Using Surface-Vorticity Panel Solver Initialization, Trisha Babu

All Graduate Reports and Creative Projects, Fall 2023 to Present

Reynolds-Averaged Navier--Stokes (RANS) simulations are widely used for predicting aerodynamic performance in engineering applications but often require substantial computational time to achieve convergence, particularly for bluff-body flows characterized by large-scale separation and wake formation. Improving the initialization of CFD simulations offers a practical approach for reducing computational cost without modifying the underlying numerical algorithms. This study investigates the use of a surface-vorticity panel solver (FlightStream) to generate physically informed velocity fields for initializing steady RANS simulations in STAR-CCM+.

Two canonical bluff-body geometries are considered: a sphere at a Reynolds number of 5 X 105 and an isolated cube at …

Water Use And Yield Of Subsurface Drip-Irrigated Forage Crops In Northern Utah, Nishchal Tamang

All Graduate Reports and Creative Projects, Fall 2023 to Present

Growing water scarcity in the Intermountain West has increased interest in improving water use efficiency. Subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) has the potential to reduce evapotranspiration (ET), evaporative losses, surface runoff, and deep percolation. SDI adoption in Utah forage crops is limited, and region-specific information on forage crop water use under SDI is lacking. This study compared ET, yield, and productivity of forage crops between SDI and conventional irrigation methods in northern Utah.

The study was conducted on production fields. Applied irrigation, precipitation, and crop yield were directly measured, while deep percolation was estimated using numerical unsaturated flow modeling. Surface runoff …

Isolation, Identification, And Enzymatic Screening Of Fungi From Utah Dryland Soils For Industrial And Waste Valorization Applications, Jessica Lorena Silva Cuero Aug 2026

Isolation, Identification, And Enzymatic Screening Of Fungi From Utah Dryland Soils For Industrial And Waste Valorization Applications, Jessica Lorena Silva Cuero

All Graduate Reports and Creative Projects, Fall 2023 to Present

Agricultural waste accumulation presents environmental challenges but also opportunities for biological valorization into value-added products. Fungi are particularly well-suited for this purpose due to their capacity to produce extracellular enzymes involved in the degradation of complex organic substrates. Dryland ecosystems represent a promising source for bioprospecting microbes capable of producing such enzymes. Drylands harbor a high diversity of extremophilic microorganisms that can withstand harsh conditions, extreme heat, UV, and low nutrients using unique adaptations. This suggests that these microbes are resilient and capable of surviving under varying conditions and still produce enzymes for biotransformation. The objective of this study was …

Advancements In Modern Seismic Monitoring: Integrating Novel And Traditional Methods For Earthquake Detection, Characterization, And Structural Imaging, Marc Adrian Garcia

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Modern seismic monitoring has been transformed by machine-learning methods that detect and locate earthquakes at scales manual analysis cannot reach. This dissertation develops, validates, and applies such workflows across three settings that span the range of modern monitoring problems: a major subduction-zone aftershock sequence, the tectonic questions that sequence can answer, and an urban region without any local monitoring at all. First, I construct a high-resolution catalog for the aftershock sequence of the September 8, 2017, Mw 8.2 Tehuantepec, Mexico earthquake, by integrating deep-learning phase detection with established location and relocation methods. The resulting catalog of 11,374 relocated earthquakes is …

A Patch-Level Framework For Urban Vegetation Water Demand Estimation Using Remote Sensing And Deep Learning, Jesus Daniel Pereyra Manriquez Aug 2026

A Patch-Level Framework For Urban Vegetation Water Demand Estimation Using Remote Sensing And Deep Learning, Jesus Daniel Pereyra Manriquez

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Urban water management in semi-arid regions requires an improved understanding of how vegetation and climatic conditions influence landscape water demand. Existing approaches often lack an integrated, spatially consistent framework to quantify this relationship at fine scales. This study proposes a patch-level framework to estimate relative landscape water demand by integrating vegetation coverage, vegetation condition, and atmospheric demand. Vegetation coverage is derived from high-resolution imagery obtained from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) using a U-Net segmentation model with a MobileNetV2 backbone. A patch-based representation is used to ensure spatial consistency across the study area. Seasonal vegetation dynamics are captured using …

Domain Adaptation Of Facial Age Estimation For Law Enforcement Mugshot Repositories, Jorge Alejandro Pacheco Roque Aug 2026

Domain Adaptation Of Facial Age Estimation For Law Enforcement Mugshot Repositories, Jorge Alejandro Pacheco Roque

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Facial age estimation supports law enforcement via image-based, age-filtered queries, age-progressive re-identification, and bulk record labeling, where prediction accuracy determines if the resulting decisions can be trusted. State-of-the-art models excel on web imagery but incur higher error on mugshots due to domain shift between the professionally lit, filtered, and posed web photographs used during pre-training and the uniform backgrounds, uncooperative expressions, and decades of evolving capture technology found in mugshot collections. We address this gap by adapting SwinFace - a state-of-the-art multi-task Swin Transformer with public code and pretrained weights, trained on color face imagery for face recognition, facial expression …

Stabilized Continuous Galerkin Methods For Heat Transport In Fully Coupled Nonlinear Thermo-Poroelasticity In Heterogeneous Porous Media, Payel Dey Aug 2026

Stabilized Continuous Galerkin Methods For Heat Transport In Fully Coupled Nonlinear Thermo-Poroelasticity In Heterogeneous Porous Media, Payel Dey

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

This thesis focuses on the numerical approximation of a coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical (THM) model with advective heat transport in heterogeneous media. The governing equations consist of three coupled equations: the momentum balance, the fluid mass balance, and the energy balance. The primary unknowns are displacement, pressure, and temperature. In this system, the fluid pressure determines the Darcy flux, and this flux transports heat through the advective term in the energy equation. Since the Darcy flux is computed numerically from the flow equation, the conservation properties of the flow approximation can affect the temperature solution. This effect is especially important when thermal …

A Verification And Validation Framework For Model-Based Systems Engineering Using Executable Architecture Models And Integrated Simulation, Michael O. Cruz Aug 2026

A Verification And Validation Framework For Model-Based Systems Engineering Using Executable Architecture Models And Integrated Simulation, Michael O. Cruz

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) reaches its full value when architecture does more than describe a system. It should help engineers carry stakeholder need and system intent into executable analysis, preserve the configuration and criteria used, and return evidence that can be reviewed in the same architecture context. This dissertation develops and evaluates a seven phase, architecture-driven verification and validation framework for that purpose. The framework defines the responsibilities that connect SysML architecture, controlled execution, domain simulation, configuration management, persistent data, analytics, and accountable engineering review. A reusable Cameo/SysML digital test environment plugin provides the reference implementation for orchestration and model …

Optimization Of A Cryogenic Electrical Characterization System And Its Application To Thermal Admittance Spectroscopy, Angel Efren Garcia Aug 2026

Optimization Of A Cryogenic Electrical Characterization System And Its Application To Thermal Admittance Spectroscopy, Angel Efren Garcia

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Defect characterization in semiconductors relies on locating trap levels through the temperature dependence of carrier emission, which makes the accuracy of the device temperature a limiting factor in every extracted parameter. This work addresses the limitations in the cryogenic electrical characterization system at The University of Texas at El Paso, where Deep-Level Transient Spectroscopy (DLTS) had been established but produced activation energies that disagreed with literature values by as much as 0.33 eV. The discrepancy was traced not to the technique but to the transfer of heat to packaged devices in a probe station designed for on-die measurement. The cryogenic …

Modulating Linear Frequency Modulated Pulses To Send Communications Data In A Bistatic Sar Scenario, Jarren T. Worthen Aug 2026

Modulating Linear Frequency Modulated Pulses To Send Communications Data In A Bistatic Sar Scenario, Jarren T. Worthen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Fall 2023 to Present

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is the technology that enables the creation of images using radar waves, allowing images to be formed regardless of weather. In bistatic SAR a radar platform uses a radar pulse from a separate platform to form an image. It is important that these radar systems are able to communicate with each other. Rather than wasting energy and space flying with a separate communication system, the radar systems could use the already existing SAR system to send data between each other while still forming SAR images. The work of this thesis is to show how very simple …

Modular Verification For Network-On-Chip Designs Using Probabilistic Verification And Assume-Guarantee Reasoning, Nicholas Waddoups Aug 2026

Modular Verification For Network-On-Chip Designs Using Probabilistic Verification And Assume-Guarantee Reasoning, Nicholas Waddoups

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Fall 2023 to Present

To satisfy increasing demands for computer chip performance in personal computing, mobile devices, and commercial server computing, a modern computer chip is constructed with tens (or hundreds) of small individual computing modules. Each of these modules must communicate with one other to share information about the running state of a computer. Historically, when chips were a few modules a simple communication method sufficied. However, as the number of modules in a chip grew, a more effecient method was needed in order to maintain performance across the system as a whole. A Network-on-Chip (NoC) design is the de-facto communication method for …

Simulation Of Hypersonic Conditions In A Lab-Scale Environment Using A Hybrid Rocket With Nitrogen Cooling, Joshua R. Sorenson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Fall 2023 to Present

Developing hypersonic vehicles requires testing under extreme heat, airflow, and pressure. Traditional facilities like shock tunnels and arc-heated wind tunnels are costly and slow to set up. This thesis proposes a simpler, low-cost method using a small-scale hybrid rocket motor as a gas generator. The rocket’s hot exhaust is directed onto the front edge of a scaled-down model that represents the nose of a hypersonic vehicle. This creates a realistic flow that matches both the intense heat energy and the pushing force experienced in high-altitude hypersonic flight. The setup allows easy measurement of motor performance, surface pressures, leading-edge temperatures, and …
