Trauma-Informed Practices At Lake Mills Community School, Rebecca R. May
Trauma-Informed Practices At Lake Mills Community School, Rebecca R. May
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
t is important to know what the staff at Lake Mills Community School (LMCS) understands about childhood trauma, how it affects student success, how to best meet the needs of students who have trauma history, and how willing staff are to participate in trauma-informed professional development. To gain more insight on the matter, a survey was conducted among the entire LMCS staff including certified teachers, paraprofessionals, administration, and auxiliary staff. The entire staff was selected because the small size of the district allows interaction between all staff and students. Of the 105 staff members, 45 members (43%) completed the first …

Closing The Gap Between Students With And Without Individualized Education Plans, Mikayla Herron
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
The achievement gap between students with and without individualized education programs continues to be a concern in early childhood education. Finding strategies and interventions that help narrow this gap is important, especially when children are young and the gap is still relatively small. This inquiry-based research study explored the use of the AI tool Buddy.ai to determine whether it could support preschool-aged students with IEPs in improving early learning skills. The study also considered general education teachers’ experiences working to close the achievement gap in inclusive classrooms. A mixed-methods approach was used. Quantitative data were collected through pre- and post-assessments, …
Teacher Feedback And Its Impact On Student Achievement And Motivation, Aubrey Schmidt
Teacher Feedback And Its Impact On Student Achievement And Motivation, Aubrey Schmidt
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
Effective teacher feedback is a key component of meaningful learning, yet many students do not consistently receive feedback that clearly guides improvement. This inquiry-based study examined how intentional, process-oriented feedback influenced elementary students’ perceptions of their learning over a six-week period. The research focused on feedback that emphasized effort, strategies, and next steps, aiming to support students’ resilience, motivation, and confidence as writers. Findings showed steady increases in students’ understanding of what to do next, their motivation to try harder, and their belief in their own abilities. Writing scores also rose gradually, suggesting that consistent, growth-focused feedback may contribute to …

The Cost Of Quantum Wars: Small State Standpoint, Gayane Harutyunyan
Journal of Strategic Security
As an emerging technology, quantum technology claims to have a tremendous impact on all spheres of social activity, as well as to significantly change the perception of war and peace, diversify the nature of security threats, opening up new, previously unknown layers in them. The development of quantum technologies is of exceptional importance for small states in terms of defense and security, because due to some important features (efficiency, speed, accuracy, dataflow security) it can offset the scarcity of resources (financial, material and human) typical of small countries, enabling the opportunity to address the issues of low efficiency due to …

Shared Reading: Dialogic And Interactive Book Practices To Foster Oral Language Development Among Pre-K Learners, Jennifer Underwood
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
This inquiry-based capstone study examines how dialogic and interactive shared reading practices support oral language development and peer engagement among ELL preschool learners. Rooted in the framework of practitioner research, the project investigates how intentional teacher questioning, open-ended prompts, and structured peer-talk opportunities transform traditional read-aloud sessions into language-rich, participatory experiences. Conducted in an urban Head Start Pre-K classroom of fifteen full day students, with a focus group of ELL and special education learners, the six-week intervention implemented dialogic reading strategies 4–5 times per week. Data was collected through observation rubrics, teacher reflection journals, student artifacts, and short video analyses. …

This study aims to validate and evaluate satellite remote sensing observations from the Landsat series over 135 lakes in the Adirondack State Park, located in upstate New York, and to examine their surface temperature trends over the past 40 years. It utilizes data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), along with Landsat 5 and 7. Park-scale results were derived by extracting MODIS surface temperatures within the park boundary, while lake-scale results were estimated using Landsat 5 (1984-2012) and Landsat 7 (1999-2023) observations. In addition, field observations were utilized to perform a comprehensive validation and evaluation of satellite-based surface temperature …
The Protection Illusion: Sexual Harassment Policies And Low-Wage Workers, Sherley Cruz
The Protection Illusion: Sexual Harassment Policies And Low-Wage Workers, Sherley Cruz
Denver Law Review
“To be heard as complaining is not to be heard. To hear someone as complaining is an effective way of dismissing someone. You do not have to listen to the content of what she is saying if she is just complaining . . . .” –Sara Ahmed, Complaint! This Article reveals how workplace sexual harassment policies may appear legally compliant but actually create significant barriers to reporting. The non-reporting of harassment eviscerates the protections the policies are supposed to provide employees by creating a loophole for employers to escape liability. A critical review of these policies under procedural and testimonial …
Examining Choices Of Sarcastic Responses In Dialogue With Virtual Interlocutors, Samantha Langley
Examining Choices Of Sarcastic Responses In Dialogue With Virtual Interlocutors, Samantha Langley
Theses and Dissertations
We report the results from three experiments examining people’s preferences for using sarcasm in conversation as a function of: 1. whether their interlocutor uses sarcasm during the conversation; 2. Their knowledge about whether the interlocutor has used sarcasm in a previous conversation; 3. The presence of prosodical and visual cues for interlocutors’ sarcasm. In each experiment, participants took part in two conversations, and we manipulated whether the interlocutors were sincere or sarcastic and whether they remained the same or changed from one conversation to the next. Experiment one used written conversations and experiment two and three used pre-recorded video clips …

Theses and Dissertations
This Dissertation in Practice addresses the problem of inconsistent academic growth among gifted and talented (GT) students in grades 3–5 at Riverview Elementary, where local STAR data show a persistent pattern of GT students falling into the Low Growth, High Proficiency category. Using improvement science as a framework, the study employed empathy interviews, a fishbone analysis, and a driver diagram to identify root causes and guide the development of a professional development (PD) intervention. The PD focused on building teacher capacity for differentiation through high-impact strategies such as problem-based learning, acceleration, independent study, curriculum compacting, and flexible grouping. The intervention …

The Mathematics Enthusiast
Agustín thus sought to abandon the unsafe use of inductive methods in algebra, as Leonardo had employed them, and to rather recover Euclid's ideal that is crystallized in the Elements of Geometry. Nevertheless, his idea of a limit is grounded in the dynamism of motion or a process: It is an embodied idea. From here, a conceptual exploration of functions and their possible properties begins. The effort of conceptual reorganization that Agustín undertakes is remarkable, and it prepares the ground for the in-depth research suggested by his work. With this arose a tangible need need to review the forms of …

I Believe There Is A Difference Between Truth And Fact, Sasha H. Buck
This I Believe
I believe there is a difference between truth and fact. A fact is something scientific, something that is proven. A fact is that 2 + 2 is 4. Now, on the other hand, truth is something entirely different. It is subjective, and therefore a lie.

Establishing Healthy And Sustainable Esl-Mainstream Co-Teaching Partnerships, Gina Dabruzzi
School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Projects
As the number of English Language Learners continues to increase, the need for successful co-teaching practices between English as a Second Language (ESL) and mainstream teachers has become a necessity. Yet, despite this high demand, there continues to be a lack of training around co-teaching, and inadequate consideration and support in creating and fostering strong co-teaching partnerships. Aside from the challenges of co-teaching, such as compatibility and power dynamics, the partnership with ESL teachers adds another dimension to the challenge of co-teaching: that being, the misconception that ESL as strategies based rather than a content, and insufficient training around explicit …
