International Journal of Speleology
This study presents the results of a long-term investigation of the microclimatic conditions in Shulgan-Tash Cave (Southern Urals, Russia), which hosts the largest assemblage of Upper Paleolithic paintings (ca. 16.3–19.6 ka) in Eastern Europe. The cave exhibits two distinct seasonal ventilation regimes – winter and summer – differentially influence its two levels of galleries. In the Lower Level, which contains 83% of the images, near-atmospheric CO2 concentrations persist year-round, and temperature variations associated with seasonal infiltration events are minimal (1.0–1.3°C). By contrast, the Upper Level, including the decorated Hall of Paintings, is affected by downdrafts of CO2-rich …

Digital Media, Truth Decay, And The Inversion Of Trust In Science, Nicholas Mosca
Digital Media, Truth Decay, And The Inversion Of Trust In Science, Nicholas Mosca
Journal of the American College of Dentists
Digital media enables the rapid dissemination of scientific oral health information from subject experts to the public. However, it also poses significant risks by facilitating the dissemination of misinformation and disinformation, thereby blurring the boundaries between truth and fallacy. This paper characterizes the decay of scientific truth in policymaking, characterized by increased public debate about scientific facts and a decline in confidence in science. It describes psychological mechanisms, such as confirmation bias and motivated reasoning, and social dynamics, including algorithm-driven content distribution and echo chambers, that accelerate the circulation of misleading science information. It suggests psychological interventions to counter misinformation, …

Closed-Loop System For Automated Prompt Refinement Based On Large Language Model Evaluation Feedback, Ali Seyfi, Fang (Anna) Fang
Closed-Loop System For Automated Prompt Refinement Based On Large Language Model Evaluation Feedback, Ali Seyfi, Fang (Anna) Fang
Defensive Publications Series
Some Large Language Model (LLM) evaluation frameworks can provide performance metrics and diagnostic information but may not offer a mechanism to translate these insights into specific, actionable improvements. This circumstance can lead developers to manually interpret evaluation results and devise solutions, such as refining system prompts. A disclosed method relates to a closed-loop system that can be used to automate aspects of this process. In some configurations, the system identifies low-performing outputs from an evaluation. An LLM-based component, which may be called an insight generator can then analyze these failures to produce structured action items. A prompt tuner module can …

Ultrasound Evaluation Of Left Ventricular Function In Coronary Artery Ectasia: The Added Value Of 2d Speckle-Tracking Echocardiography, Osama Abouelfetouh Elshaer, Mahmoud Gomaa, Ramy Magdy Elgamal, Mohamed Shokry Fahmy, Reda Nabil Dawoud, Reda Biomy, Ahmed Mostafa Ahmed, Mohamed Kamal Salama
Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
Introduction: Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is defined as abnormal dilatation of coronary arteries and may be linked to subclinical myocardial dysfunction. Conventional echocardiographic parameters may not adequately detect early left ventricular (LV) dysfunction. Two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2D STE) has shown promise in identifying subtle myocardial changes.
Methods: In this single-center observational study, 90 participants with available coronary angiography were divided into three groups: Group A (controls, n=30), Group B (single-vessel CAE, n=30), and Group C (multi-vessel CAE, n=30). Standard echocardiographic indices including LV ejection fraction (LVEF), volumes, and diastolic function were assessed. Global radial, longitudinal, circumferential, and area strains were …
Scalable Biosynthesis And Recovery Of Poly-3-Hydroxybutyrate Produced From Cotton-Derived Glucose By Cupriavidus Necator, Ashley M. Clark, Lucia E. Gargano, Gabriella M. Fioravanti, Hannah M. Schapiro, Ron G. Kander
Scalable Biosynthesis And Recovery Of Poly-3-Hydroxybutyrate Produced From Cotton-Derived Glucose By Cupriavidus Necator, Ashley M. Clark, Lucia E. Gargano, Gabriella M. Fioravanti, Hannah M. Schapiro, Ron G. Kander
School of Design and Engineering Papers
To combat the growing issue of petroleum plastic waste, alternative bio-based polymers are being developed. Many of these biopolymers are made from bio-derived materials, or are biodegradable, but the most promising polymers fall in both categories. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are one such class of polymers, and poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (P3HB), the most popular PHA, has shown great potential. This study utilized two types of cotton-derived glucose, alongside commercial glucose, as a feedstock for the biosynthesis of P3HB by Cupriavidus necator (also known as Ralstonia eutropha). The fermentation took place in a 2-L bioreactor, showing potential for scale-up. A single-solvent extraction method was …
