Heuristic Approaches For Coordinating Collaborative Heterogeneous Robotic Systems In Harvesting Automation With Size Constraints, Hyeseon Lee, Jung Yun Bae, Abhishek Patil, Myoungkuk Park, Vinh Nguyen

Michigan Tech Publications

Multi-agent coordination with task allocation, routing, and scheduling presents critical challenges when deploying heterogeneous robotic systems in constrained agricultural environments. These systems involve real-time sensing during their operations with various sensors, and having quick updates on coordination based on sensed data is critical. This paper addresses the specific requirements of harvesting automation through three heuristic approaches: (1) primal-dual workload balancing inspired by combinatorial optimization techniques, (2) greedy task assignment with iterative local optimization, and (3) LLM-based constraint processing through prompt engineering. Our agricultural application scenario incorporates robot size constraints for navigating narrow crop rows while optimizing task completion time. The …

Connectedness And Belonging: An Autoethnography About Military Veteran Transition, Benjamin A. Smet Oct 2025

Connectedness And Belonging: An Autoethnography About Military Veteran Transition, Benjamin A. Smet

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Military veterans often face profound challenges transitioning to civilian life, yet prevailing narratives focus narrowly on PTSD and combat trauma. This dissertation uses autoethnography to broaden that view, blending personal narrative with theory to explore seven interrelated transition stressors: grief and bereavement, loss of military identity, autobiographical memory, service-connected nostalgia, moral injury, stereotype threat, and socialized masculinity and stoicism. These layered stories illuminate the cultural, emotional, and relational dimensions of transition, showing how isolation, disconnection, and loss of belonging shape veteran experiences as deeply as trauma. The analysis demonstrates that healing emerges not from prescriptive programs but from relational practices …

INTRODUCTION: The identification of unknown metabolites remains a major challenge in untargeted metabolomics using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). This process typically depends on comparing mass spectral or chromatographic data to reference databases or deciphering complex fragmentation in tandem mass spectra. While current machine learning methods can predict metabolite structures using MS/MS (MS2) data, no approaches, to our knowledge, use only mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) and retention time (RT) from LC-MS data.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the potential of using the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) and retention time (RT) from LC-MS data as standalone predictors for metabolite classification and propose a modeling framework which …

Lactation support from health professionals is a crucial social determinant of health. Registered dietitians (RDs) and registered nurses (RNs) can play an important role in supporting breastfeeding, yet most have minimal formal lactation education and training. This study seeks to explore the correlates of professional breastfeeding perceived role, perceived influence, and confidence in providing lactation support among RDs and RNs. Using a cross-sectional design, a convenience sample of 111 credentialed providers completed an online survey assessing their breastfeeding-related training, experiences, knowledge, attitudes, and practices. We also examined perceptions of social support, intentions for future breastfeeding, professional roles, and confidence in …

Enhanced Particle Interactions In Highly Curved Spacetime, Bradley Shapiro Oct 2025

Enhanced Particle Interactions In Highly Curved Spacetime, Bradley Shapiro

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

Compact objects, such as black holes and neutron stars, are known to be surrounded by dense clouds of particles, including but not limited to photons, various plasmas, and potentially dark matter and gravitons. These environments are of immense research interest, not only for the purpose of understanding the compact objects they surround, but also in the search to identify new particles, especially dark matter. However, certain particle physics calculations are well developed in flat spacetime but intractable in curved spacetime. In this thesis, I present a formalism by which some of these calculations may be made tractable within a perturbative …

Catching On: Work Stress, Employee Wellbeing, And The Moderating Role Of Team-Level Emotional Contagion, Aglae Hernandez Grande, Ben Farr-Wharton, Fleur Sharafizad, Simon Darcy, Mihajla Gavin

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Work stress and employee wellbeing have gained heightened attention since the COVID-19 pandemic. Until now, organizations have primarily sought to conceptualize these variables as an individual-level phenomenon; thereby neglecting the potential influence of social dynamics within the workplace. Drawing on conservation of resources and emotional contagion theories, this study examines the extent to which team-level emotional contagion moderates the impact of stress on wellbeing, factoring in multilevel effects. Data from 237 professional services employees nested within 41 teams was analyzed. The results show support for emotional contagion as a team-level moderator between individual-level work stress and employee wellbeing. The role …

See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil: How The Model Penal Code Incentivizes Ignorance Among Corporate Executives, Graham Garvin Oct 2025

See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil: How The Model Penal Code Incentivizes Ignorance Among Corporate Executives, Graham Garvin

Georgia Criminal Law Review

Due to the Model Penal Code’s stringent “knowledge” requirement for vicarious criminal liability, corporate executives, directors, and high managerial agents are inadvertently incentivized to stay uninformed of their subordinates’ actions as a means of safeguarding their employers. This not only leads to a deficiency in oversight, permitting potential criminal activities to go unchecked within corporations, but also establishes a significant shield against corporate criminal liability, given the challenges in proving such knowledge. Thus, a lower threshold for corporate, criminal, vicarious liability should be imposed, which instead promotes oversight. Others have recognized the issue at hand, but most often advocate for …

(Trans)Forming The “Epidemic Of Violence”: Lgbtq+ Police Liaisons And Transgender Victimization, Autumn Sanford Oct 2025

(Trans)Forming The “Epidemic Of Violence”: Lgbtq+ Police Liaisons And Transgender Victimization, Autumn Sanford

Georgia Criminal Law Review

Over the past twenty years, police departments across the country have instated LGBTQ+ liaisons in response to overwhelming rates of violence against the transgender and gender non-conforming community. Despite the creation of this position, rates of transgender victimization remain the same, with transgender people still being 2.5 times more likely to experience violence than a cisgender person. At-lanta Police Department’s LGBTQ+ liaison has existed since 2004, however, in this time, nearly twenty brutal mur-ders of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals have been reported in Atlanta, with three high-profile kill-ings occurring in 2023 alone. Based on these findings, this Note argues …

The Unconstitutional Overcriminalization Of “Voter Fraud” By Formerly Incarcerated Felons, Garfield Mcintyre Jr. Oct 2025

The Unconstitutional Overcriminalization Of “Voter Fraud” By Formerly Incarcerated Felons, Garfield Mcintyre Jr.

Georgia Criminal Law Review

Felon voting rights are under attack in the United States. State Attorneys’ General are using overbroad “voter fraud” statutes to prosecute formerly incarcerated persons voting or attempting to vote—even when done mistakenly. Worse, their public-facing rationale, voter fraud, has been repeatedly discredited. Some combination of Congress, the courts, and the people must act to prevent any such future prosecutions from occurring, particularly where it is shown that there was no intent to violate the law. Some have argued for more localized solutions like lobbying state legislators to change the law. But those efforts have, except in rare circumstances, failed.

Clearly, …

Christian Realism And The Sins Of Mass Incarceration, Jeffrey R. Baker Oct 2025

Christian Realism And The Sins Of Mass Incarceration, Jeffrey R. Baker

Georgia Criminal Law Review

This article is a study of Reinhold Niebuhr’s Christian Realism, a progressive school of social ethics rooted in Christian theology, and its critical evaluation of American mass incarceration. Christian Realism seeks justice in society under law, formed by love as its fundamental organizing principle. It acknowledges a world with endemic structural injustices and social immorality, but it finds temperate hope in the human potential for love, redemption, and generosity. Christian Realism reckons that any institution committed to justice must inevitably compromise to achieve incremental progress toward good. But it projects steady, hopeful progress toward justice, even as systems calibrate …

A Lawless Judiciary: The Gilded Age And Today, Michael D. Cicchini Oct 2025

A Lawless Judiciary: The Gilded Age And Today, Michael D. Cicchini

Georgia Criminal Law Review

The American journalist Ambrose Bierce, who wrote in the late 1800s, was a fierce critic of the judiciary. He lampooned judges for their defective reasoning, arbitrary decisions, and ignorance of the law; he criticized their practice of legislating from the bench and even exposed their outright corruption. Bierce’s work was highly entertaining—in a satirical, cynical way. Yet, as law professor J. Gordon Hylton explained, “beneath the humor and the bitterness of his work lay a sophisticated understanding of the shortcomings of the late nineteenth-century bench and bar.”

This Essay examines Bierce’s criticisms of the judiciary and asks this question: After …

Overwhelming Unfairness: Pervasive Intentional Prosecutorial Misconduct, Structural Error, And State V. Arias, Christopher Boorse Oct 2025

Overwhelming Unfairness: Pervasive Intentional Prosecutorial Misconduct, Structural Error, And State V. Arias, Christopher Boorse

Georgia Criminal Law Review

This article argues that in federal constitutional law, pervasive intentional prosecutorial misconduct always requires reversal of a criminal conviction. That is so for three reasons. First, since a trial pervaded by unfairness is an unfair trial, such a conviction violates the Donnelly fundamental-fairness rule. Second, such a due-process violation can never be found harmless under either the Kotteakos or the Chapman harmless-error test, properly interpreted. Third, pervasive intentional misconduct always or usually fits all but one of the Supreme Court’s seven descriptions of structural error. In particular, it always fits all three rationales on the Court’s most recent list.

Establishing Criminal Justice Safety Teams: Theoretical Foundations, Practical Implementation, And State Leadership, Boaz Sangero, Hagit Turjeman, Yosef Zohar Oct 2025

Establishing Criminal Justice Safety Teams: Theoretical Foundations, Practical Implementation, And State Leadership, Boaz Sangero, Hagit Turjeman, Yosef Zohar

Georgia Criminal Law Review

In hazardous areas, the need for safety measures is self-evident and substantial efforts are dedicated to their implementation. In the criminal justice system, significant hazards exist, notably the wrongful conviction of innocent individuals, but the need for safety mechanisms has not been internalized. One explanation for this oversight is the mistaken belief that the criminal justice system is nearly error-free. Yet, research has consistently demonstrated that wrongful convictions are not uncommon, representing one of the most significant injustices a liberal state can impose on its citizens and residents. Therefore, it is the duty of the state to introduce robust safety …

Intercultural Communicative Competence In Saudi University Efl (2015-2025): A Scoping Review, Rehan Almegren

UB Journal for Humanities

This review synthesizes findings of empirical research on Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) from 2015 to 2025 in Saudi university EFL contexts. It included research that covered mixed-method, quantitative, qualitative, and investigations that use ICC frameworks, such as Byram’s model and Bennett’s DMIS which are international, to apply to local educational contexts. Findings show a gap between teachers’ theoretical support for integrating culture and how it is implemented in classrooms, compelled by curriculum demands, sensitivities around cultural content, and limited teacher training. Learners often struggle with pragmatics in aspects like politeness strategies and appropriate speech acts which highlights the necessity for …

Pragmatic Competence Of Saudi Female Efl Learners: A Modality-Based Study Of Conversational Implicatures, Afnan Almegren Oct 2025

Pragmatic Competence Of Saudi Female Efl Learners: A Modality-Based Study Of Conversational Implicatures, Afnan Almegren

UB Journal for Humanities

The comprehension of conversational implicatures is a significant challenge for second language learners. Although some previous research has investigated this area, limited studies have compared how comprehension is influenced by the modality of input. This study seeks to determine the extent to which Saudi female BA-level EFL learners’ comprehension scores differ between reading and listening tests for each implicature subtype. It also examines how strongly individual learners’ subscale scores in the reading test predict their corresponding subscale scores in the listening test, and which implicature types display the greatest and least cross-modal consistency. A quantitative study was conducted with 60 …
