Perfusion Assessment In Ceus Imaging For Estimating Pancreatic Cancer Response To Sonoporation-Enhanced Chemotherapy., Omri Adler, Priscilla Machado, Trang Vu, Flemming Forsberg, Odd Helge Gilja, Dan Adam
Department of Radiology Faculty Papers
Accurate assessment of perfusion in vital organs like the pancreas is crucial for monitoring various pathologies, particularly tumors and their growth. While tumor growth inhibition usually results in decreased vascularization, current techniques for non-invasive and cost-effective perfusion assessment lack sufficient vessel separability for pancreatic applications, hindering optimal treatment selection and monitoring. Ultrasound (US) imaging offers advantages like low cost, rapid acquisition, non-invasiveness, and non-ionizing radiation. However, speckle, patient-related and acquisition-related motion artifacts, and limitations in distinguishing contrast-enhanced blood vessels, particularly in single frames, pose significant challenges. This study presents a novel solution utilizing image analysis of US contrast agents (UCAs) …

Visible Image-Based Machine Learning For Identifying Abiotic Stress In Sugar Beet Crops, Seyed Reza Haddadi, Masoumeh Hashemi, Richard C. Peralta, Masoud Soltani
Plants, Soils and Climate Student Research
Previous researches have proved that the synchronized use of inexpensive RGB images, image processing, and machine learning (ML) can accurately identify crop stress. Four Machine Learning Image Modules (MLIMs) were developed to enable the rapid and cost-effective identification of sugar beet stresses caused by water and/or nitrogen deficiencies. RGB images representing stressed and non-stressed crops were used in the analysis. To improve robustness, data augmentation was applied, generating six variations on each image and expanding the dataset from 150 to 900 images for training and testing. Each MLIM was trained and tested using 54 combinations derived from nine canopy and …

Previous studies have suggested that alterations in white matter (WM) microstructure are implicated in suicidal thoughts and behaviours (STBs). However, findings of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) studies have been inconsistent. In this large-scale mega-analysis conducted by the ENIGMA Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviours (ENIGMA-STB) consortium, we examined WM alterations associated with STBs. Data processing was standardised across sites, and resulting WM microstructure measures (fractional anisotropy (FA), axial diffusivity (AD), mean diffusivity and radial diffusivity) for 24 WM tracts and one global measure were pooled across 40 cohorts. We compared these measures among individuals with a psychiatric diagnosis and lifetime history of …

Leptin, a hormone primarily secreted by adipocytes, regulates energy balance and systemic metabolism through its interaction with the leptin receptor (LEPR). Beyond these functions, leptin signaling has been implicated in the pathogenesis of tissue fibrosis. Here, we report the x-ray crystal structures of a leptin-neutralizing antibody (hLep3) in the unbound and leptin-bound states. The interaction of this antibody with leptin mimics the interaction of the LEPR with leptin, providing direct insights into the mechanism by which the antibody disrupts leptin signaling. We furthermore evaluate the therapeutic potential of neutralizing leptin with this antibody across distinct mouse models of fibrosis affecting …

Deep learning models perform exceptionally well in time series classification, but their lack of interpretability remains a significant challenge. Although explainable AI (XAI) techniques are well established for image and tabular data, adapting these methods to time series is challenging due to temporal dependencies. Existing feature importance methods often treat each time step as an independent feature, ignoring temporal relationships or segmenting the series into fixed-size windows, which can lead to the omission of critical subsequences. This paper introduces a novel, local, model-agnostic interpretability method designed explicitly for time series data without segmentation. The technique generates neighbouring samples by randomly …

Mycobacterium avium is an opportunistic pathogen and a leading contributor to nontuberculous mycobacterial infections in immunocompromised individuals. However, treatment duration, antibiotic toxicity, and resistance present challenges in the management of mycobacterium infections, prompting the need for novel treatment. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) has demonstrated potent antimycobacterial activity, while antimicrobial peptides such as the cyclic [R4W4] have shown additive effects when combined with first-line antibiotics. This study aimed to investigate the mechanism and efficacy of NAC and [R4W4] combination therapy against M. avium. A membrane depolarization assay was used to evaluate the effects of …

Long-read sequencing has transformed metagenomics and improved the quality of metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs). However, current binning methods struggle with identifying unknown species and managing imbalanced species distributions. Here, we present LorBin, an unsupervised binner specially designed to reconstruct MAGs in natural microbiomes. LorBin deploys a two-stage multiscale adaptive DBSCAN and BIRCH clustering with evaluation decision models using single-copy genes to maximize MAG recovery. LorBin outperforms six competing binners in both simulated and real microbiomes, including oral, gut, and marine samples. LorBin generated 15-189% more high-quality MAGs with high serendipity and identified 2.4-17 times more novel taxa than state-of-the-art binning methods. …

Money Demand Stability With Endogenous Structural Breaks And The Role Of Payment System Innovation In Indonesia, Wishnu Badrawani
Money Demand Stability With Endogenous Structural Breaks And The Role Of Payment System Innovation In Indonesia, Wishnu Badrawani
Jurnal Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan
This study examines the stability of the demand for money function in Indonesia using quarterly data from 2007 to 2021, employing Gregory-Hansen's (1996) cointegration test and Hendry's general-to-specific approaches. The cointegration and error correction models show a causal relationship between money demand and its conventional determinants and payment system innovation. Considering the central bank policy that part of economic reforms captured by the structural break in the cointegration test and the stability test results of the short-run analysis, we confirm the stable narrow money and currency demand and its dynamics in Indonesia. The Gregory and Hansen test found a cointegrating …

Bank Indonesia's Behavior In Response To The Fed’S Policy, Kiky Indah Sari, Telisa Aulia Falianty
Jurnal Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan
Global economic instability is a challenge for the domestic economy, especially for emerging countries. A higher Federal Funds Rate for a longer period affects economic stability. Bank Indonesia plays a role in determining the BI rate to achieve economic goals. Indonesia, as an open economy, needs to consider external aspects in determining monetary policy. The Augmented Taylor Rule framework can facilitate this need to know about the determination of the BI rate. This study aims to identify the behavior of Bank Indonesia in response to the Fed's policy and the phenomenon of higher for longer. The research period was conducted …

This study aimed to evaluate rock fragmentation risk indexes and develop a predictive model for the median size of fragment (X50) using the Rock Engineering System (RES). The methodology includes the analysis of 15 significant parameters of rock properties and blast design, which are considered to be important to rock fragmentation from 30 selected blast sites. These parameters include rock type, hardness, blast-hole diameter, charge weight, blast pattern, and others that control fragmentation results. Statistical analysis was performed to validate the RES-based model developed from these parameters. The model exhibited a strong predictive capacity, evidenced by a …
