Interrupting The Retention Cycle: The Impact Of Relationship-Centered One-To-One Literacy Tutoring On Affective And Cognitive Outcomes For At-Risk Third-Grade Readers, Amy Nussbaum
The Reading Professor
Third grade serves as a critical literacy benchmark in Indiana, where students who do not pass the Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination (IREAD) assessment may face retention. The consequences of retention are particularly pronounced for students living in high-poverty communities, where inequitable access to literacy opportunities often compounds existing academic challenges. This article examines a six-week, relationship-centered literacy intervention implemented at an underserved Catholic school in South Bend, Indiana. Through a partnership with Tutor-ND, trained community tutors provided one-to-one, evidence-based literacy instruction to students at risk of retention following unsuccessful performance on IREAD. Drawing upon research related to high-impact tutoring, …
Beyond The Label: Investigating The Relationship Between Ell Placement And Teacher Expectations For Academic Rigor, Bruce A. Torff, Audrey Figueroa Murphy
Beyond The Label: Investigating The Relationship Between Ell Placement And Teacher Expectations For Academic Rigor, Bruce A. Torff, Audrey Figueroa Murphy
The Reading Professor
Urban teachers (N=142) completed a survey assessing how placement of English learners in common pedagogical settings that vary in ESL models (self-contained, pull-out, push-in, bilingual, and dual language) was associated with teachers' beliefs about rigor of curriculum. Teachers significantly favored low-Critical Thinking (CT) curricular activities over high-CT ones consistent with "rigor gap" research showing that teachers tend to view ELLs in need of low-CT curriculum. Beliefs consistent with the rigor gap also emerged within the ELL population, based on placements. Teachers preferred curriculum tilted toward low-CT instruction for students with the greatest challenges--those given the most ESL-sequestered placements (self-contained and …
Proactive Deep Q-Learning Approach For Anomaly Detection In Iot Idss, Hawraa A. Habeeb, Mehdi E. Manaa
Proactive Deep Q-Learning Approach For Anomaly Detection In Iot Idss, Hawraa A. Habeeb, Mehdi E. Manaa
Journal of Intelligent Informatics, Networking, and Cybersecurity
Breach rates and unparalleled vulnerabilities are a constant feature of the cyber landscape these days, and the increasing complexity of the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) nodes is to be expected. With these challenges, the conventional intrusion detection systems (IDS) are proven to be unable to deal with the extensive and varied data streams. Such systems can be fundamentally attributed to the classical nature of these systems, which are lacking in flexibility to analyze traffic in real-time and thus have no proactive capabilities of identifying patterns of unknown attacks. Considering these technical barriers, in this paper, an offensive-defensive system …

Integrated Llm-Powered Framework For Real-Time Monitoring In Machining Using Smartphone And Ai Agent Orchestration, Mustafa H. Hadi, Hussam L. Alwan, Atiya Al-Zuheri, Sang-Heon Lee, Yousef Amer
Engineering and Technology Journal
Reliable tool condition monitoring is essential for maintaining machining quality, reducing production downtime, and preventing unexpected tool failures. Conventional tool condition monitoring systems can accurately detect tool wear but typically provide limited support for automated diagnosis and maintenance decision-making. To address this limitation, this paper proposes an economical AI agent-driven maintenance framework for milling operations that integrates smartphone-based vibration sensing, one-dimensional Convolutional Neural Networks (1D-CNNs), and Large Language Model (LLM)-powered AI agents. Vibration signals acquired using a smartphone-embedded accelerometer are preprocessed and analyzed using a 1D-CNN to classify tool conditions into fresh and worn states. The classification results are then …

Engineering and Technology Journal
Polychlorinated Naphthalenes (PCNs) are persistence organic pollutants (POPs) which have been used extensively and continue to be a source of environmental and human health issues in spite of the international ban on their production. This work represents the first report of PCNs in consumer goods, landfill leachate, and sediment samples in South Africa. In this study, a total of 24 consumer goods belonging to eight categories were analyzed along with landfill leachates and sediments from the Hatherly and Goudkoppies landfills, Gauteng Province, South Africa, for some selected PCN congeners by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. Quality assurance procedures and …
Token-Efficient Verification For Self-Improving Root-Cause-Analysis Agents, Necati Cehreli
Token-Efficient Verification For Self-Improving Root-Cause-Analysis Agents, Necati Cehreli
Defensive Publications Series
Proposed herein is a system that chooses how much testing is needed for an improvement to an artificial intelligence (AI) root cause analysis (RCA) agent before the system trusts the improvement. Small, local changes can receive quick replay first, while broad or risky changes require a full rerun or multi-case batch testing. One result of the proposed approach is a safer and less costly self-improvement loop through which a system can spend additional testing effort when the change warrants such testing.
Deterministic, Model-Independent Grounding-Integrity Mechanisms For Retrieval-Augmented And Agentic Language-Model Systems, Roberto A. Wenzel
Deterministic, Model-Independent Grounding-Integrity Mechanisms For Retrieval-Augmented And Agentic Language-Model Systems, Roberto A. Wenzel
Defensive Publications Series
Revision 1.2 of a defensive publication disclosing deterministic, model-independent grounding-integrity mechanisms for retrieval-augmented and agentic LLM systems. The mechanisms make citation resolvability an invariant of every output mode routed through a cross-tool evidence registry — detect → bounce → strip with compound-citation surgery, an ordering rule, and a strip-event notice — and make degradations of grounding (a removed citation, a deleted source, an unverified item, a suspect "not found") visible to the reviewer rather than silent. Revision 1.2 adds Technique G (decompose-and-verify: per-unit grounding, byte-identical scoped regeneration, de-correlated verification, citation tombstones, honest terminal states), a precise trust model and guarantee …
Evidence-Partitioned Autonomy Authorization For Llm Agents: Single-Use Capability Tokens, A Selection-Bias Firewall, And Pre-Outcome Committed Audit Selection In A Cross-Model Execution-Authority Control Loop, Jason Edward Plumb
Defensive Publications Series
Large-language-model agents are routinely granted execution authority they have not earned: per-call permission prompts do not scale, allowlists do not adapt, and commercial “trust scores” are heuristic. This disclosure describes a deterministic, fail-closed execution-authority control loop in which model outputs are never authority. One model may only propose typed, exactly-argued actions; a second model may only request execution of an unmodified proposal; a host-owned controller authorizes each operation immediately before it executes; and a gateway redeeming single-use capability tokens is the only path to side effects. Four mechanisms are disclosed in enabling detail: (1) an autonomy-evidence store partitioned by a …
System And Method For Monitoring Client Logging Reliability, Quentin Fiard, Dakshi Goyal, David Phillips
System And Method For Monitoring Client Logging Reliability, Quentin Fiard, Dakshi Goyal, David Phillips
Defensive Publications Series
A monitoring system and method for benchmarking client logging reliability across multiple logging systems. The monitoring system includes a client-side component (prober) and a serverside component (server-side pipeline). The prober identifies scenarios, initializes and increments sequence numbers scoped to stream identifier and scenario combinations, generates probes containing sequence numbers and stream identifiers, and dispatches probes through multiple logging systems. The server-side pipeline aggregates probes over a rolling window by event creation date, joins probe records across logging systems to construct a ground truth, detects gaps in sequence numbers, and calculates reliability metrics for each logging system.
Ai Driven Firmware Integrated Assistant For Dynamic Printer Features Education, Assistance And Recommendation, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure presents an artificial intelligence-based system that leverages Large Language Models (LLMs) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to contextually educate, assist, and recommend printer features to users. End-users of printing devices frequently underutilize available product features due to fragmented and inaccessible product information. Feature documentation is dispersed across datasheets, embedded help systems, and release notes, that are often verbose, overly technical, or not contextually surfaced at the point of need, resulting in low feature discoverability and suboptimal device utilization. This approach improves feature adoption, accelerates issue resolution, and enhances the overall user experience with the printing device.

Techniques For Handling Unstable Agents In Agent-Based Networks, Ashwini S Kulkarni, Sushmitha Vatsal, Priyanka Bansal, Vivek Kumar Singh, Ghulam Ghaus Arshi
Defensive Publications Series
Proposed herein are a system and techniques that facilitate stability-aware metadata synchronization in agent-based networks. The system includes a closed-loop adaptive stability orchestration layer that utilizes a time-sensitive exponential-decay mechanism and historical recovery telemetry to dynamically tune suppression and reuse thresholds, thereby reducing control-plane churn and cascading failures. Rather than relying on binary health checks, the system uses a time-weighted stability score to support granular, policy-driven agent lifecycle management.

Method And System For Adaptive Multi-Channel Employee Performance Assessment With Dynamic Data Source Weighting And Entropy-Based Filtering, Vladimir Gorobtsov
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure describes a method and system for comprehensive employee performance assessment using adaptive multi-channel data integration. The system collects data from at least three independent sources (psychometric tests, physical activity monitoring, operational workload metrics, communication activity, and behavioral logs). It employs Shannon entropy-based filtering to exclude noisy sources, Tukey's interquartile range method for outlier removal, and sliding-window normalization. Dynamic weights are calculated daily based on statistical dependence between each data source and actual employee productivity. An integrated performance index is computed with seasonal adjustment. The system is scalable, computationally efficient, and reduces processing load by up to 40%. …

Male Osteoporosis: Pathophysiology, Risk Assessment, And Evidence-Based Management, Seli̇n Teki̇n, Alper Gürlek
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Osteoporosis in men is a common yet underrecognized condition associated with substantial fracture-related morbidity and excess mortality. Although men generally attain higher peak bone mass than women, age-related changes in bone microarchitecture, progressive cortical bone loss, declining sex steroid bioavailability, and a high prevalence of secondary causes contribute to a significant lifetime fracture risk. Importantly, a large proportion of fragility fractures in men occur at bone mineral density (BMD) values above the osteoporotic threshold, highlighting the limitations of BMD-based diagnosis alone. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical characteristics of osteoporosis in men, with particular …

Background/aim: Adrenal incidentalomas are increasingly detected during imaging studies performed for various indications, and their frequency in endocrinology practice has risen in recent years. While adenomas account for approximately 80% of adrenal incidentalomas, the remaining 20% include lesions such as primary malignancies, metastases, and pheochromocytomas that should not be overlooked. Given the risks associated with adrenal biopsy, accurate diagnosis with noninvasive methods is essential. In this retrospective study, we evaluated the Hounsfield unit (HU) values and lesion sizes measured on noncontrast computed tomography (CT) to identify a more accurate threshold than the widely used 10 HU.

Background/aim: Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) is a severe cerebrovascular condition with high morbidity and mortality. Inflammation and oxidative stress are key factors in its pathophysiology, particularly in secondary vascular injury. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of colchicine on vascular integrity and biochemical markers following SAH in an experimental rat model.
Materials and methods: Eighteen female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups: Control (no SAH), SAH (induced without treatment), and SAH + Colchicine (1 mg/kg intraperitoneally at 1 h and 24 h). SAH was induced by autologous blood injection into …

Background/aim: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a common psychiatric condition characterized by depressive symptoms and suicide-related clinical features. Vitamin D status has been investigated as a potential clinical correlate of depression and suicidal ideation, but the direction and specificity of these associations remain uncertain. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the associations among serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels, depressive symptom severity, suicidal ideation, and suicide-related cognitive–affective dimensions in adults diagnosed with MDD.
Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study included 97 adults aged 18–65 years who were diagnosed with MDD according to DSM-5 criteria. Depressive symptom severity and suicide-related outcomes were …

Robust Soil Moisture Content Detection Based On Data Augmentation Under Different Testing Conditions, Yang Li, Chenghao Liu, Jing Nie, Jingbin Li
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Accurate and cost-effective monitoring of soil moisture content is essential for the development of precision agriculture and the optimization of water resource management. While low-frequency acoustic signals are used to detect soil moisture content, models trained with controlled laboratory acoustic data often exhibit significant performance degradation with field data due to their sensitivity to environmental noise, soil heterogeneity, and structural variations. This study proposes a novel framework to enhance model robustness and generalization by integrating a WGAN-GP network data augmentation strategy into the soil moisture content workflow. This framework is designed to generate high-quality and diverse data on different soil …

Daam2 Gene Variants P.(Asp165glu) And P.(Asn614thrfster2) In Pediatric Cryptorchidism: A Hypothesis-Generating Pilot Case-Control Study From The Eastern Black Sea Region Of Türkiye , Onur Yalçin, Çağri Doğan
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Cryptorchidism is the most common congenital anomaly of the male genitourinary system, characterized by a multifactorial etiology. The disheveled-associated activator of morphogenesis 2 (DAAM2) gene regulates androgen receptor (AR)- dependent transcription; its variants are associated with partial androgen insensitivity. Since the inguinoscrotal phase of testicular descent is androgen-dependent, we hypothesized that DAAM2 variants contribute to cryptorchidism susceptibility. This pilot study, designed to generate hypotheses rather than to establish association, investigated the frequency of two functionally characterized DAAM2 variants, p.(Asp165Glu) and p.(Asn614ThrfsTer2), in pediatric cryptorchidism.
Materials and methods: This prospective case-control study included 40 male pediatric cryptorchidism patients and 39 …
